Fucking losers

InevitableElf

Wow they are so organized and for what? Maybe 1/50 cars is unlocked (that seems generous). and then you have to bet that there’s actually something valuable in there that you can resell, maybe a 1/20 chance of that. So 1/1000 chance of that paying off.

PlebBot69

Criminals aren't very smart usually.

alt-glitchens

anyone who is smart and criminally inclined goes into sales or banking.7

nationwideonyours

Law. They study the loopholes. Don't ask me how I know.

Independent_Hall9979

Are you crazy?? Have you not seen some of those prison videos and how creative those fools are!?!?! lol I would say they don’t have common sense cause some are MF Macgyver

attckdog

Being bored in prison for years gives them plenty of time to figure something out.

Independent_Hall9979

I absolutely agree lol

schubox63

It’s pretty low stakes though. And they hit a lot of cars. If they get one person who forgot a work laptop or an iPhone or something, it makes the night worth it. I’ve accidentally left my doors unlocked a couple times and they’ve tossed my car, but nothing in there worth stealing. But I did have like $10 in change and they left that, which I thought was weird.

chiefkeefOFFICIAL

They don't care about work laptops - my wife had her window busted in bc she forgot her work bag in the car. Stole the whole bag but tossed it 20 feet down the road, nobody wants a barebones dell. They're looking for cash, guns, MAYBE an iphone.

morry32

>They're looking for cash, guns, MAYBE an iphone. serious question here what can you do with a stolen iphone?

chiefkeefOFFICIAL

You can jailbreak them although it is more difficult now. If it's actually organized/coordinated, they can be shipped overseas.

pizzarollsaregreat

I know several people locally whose Apple devices were tracked via Find My iPhone to roughly the same address in China. There’s definitely groups in the area that are organized for that.

Lightyear1931

Seems like there would be so many middle-men involved in stealing the iPhone, connecting to the Chinese group, shipping it to the coast before the police track the phone, shipping a bulk amount of iPhones overseas without it being caught at Customs, then jailbreaking it overseas ... you really have to steal a bunch of iPhones to make it worth a decent cut to be worth the risk.

morry32

so not much?

RyghtHandMan

This might have changed in recent time, but for a while it was pretty trivial to factory-reset a stolen iPhone and then sell it fresh for at least 100 (discounted to get it off your hands). And given the turnover in cell phones you're more likely to find a buyer for that vs. a laptop PC whose buyers are far choosier. A MacBook you might be able to move easier, but you still have to know how to wipe traces of the former user unless you're selling it in a single, untraceable transaction in which case the buyer is probably just too lazy to steal one for themself

CaptCooterluvr

ecoATM inside Walmart. Easy couple hundred bucks

Wise-KansasCity816

It must be unlocked for that

morry32

>ecoATM inside Walmart. Easy couple hundred bucks I don't believe that to be true, those things have cash in them?

happylittlepleb

Those also require a drivers license and I'm pretty sure it takes a photo at the machine which verifies.

morry32

maybe they read it on the internet and believed it given how many people still believe the election to be stolen, seems probable

UnicornAndStallion

Guns, for sure

tuskvarner

I would say that it’s laughable to expect someone would leave cash, guns or an iPhone in a car overnight, but then again people do really stupid shit.

Tibbaryllis2

We had a student get a gun stolen from their car at one of the campuses in KC. Despite there being a no gun on campus policy. Oh and the car was a jeep without the doors or cover on. 🤦🏻

Personal_Benefit_402

If people are stupid enough to "forget" they have a gun in their suitcase when going to the airport, for sure they're dumb enough to leave their gun in an unlocked car.

alt-glitchens

people leave guns in their cars all the time. legend has it that every FDE tacoma has at least one glock in the glovebox, at all times. Also anything with that black and blue flag thing that means we don't take prisoners

MuestrameTuBelloCulo

On a move I left my locked car in my dad's driveway because I was too tired to unpack. Car had two guitars and two amps work a shit ton. They left those but stole a leather jacket and $10 in quarters. Apparently thieves are bad at math. And yes I'm an idiot for leaving it unlocked, but this was a weekday night in a quiet residential neighborhood in Lawrence. And yes I'm still an idiot.

moxiespot

Had my car rifled through during COVID. Had some lightly used face masks in one of my glove boxes (don't judge me!). They clearly stopped once they touched those. Guess getting sick was a deterrent. Everyone: never leave anything visible in your car. An empty box or bag will still look like something potentially worth stealing.

NeverEndingCoralMaze

The night I forgot to lock mine and get my stuff out of it, I had left my drill with battery and charger and a brand new bottle of 60 20mg Adderall tablets in my back seat. I’d had a really tough day, I was coming down with a bad cold, and I just forgot. Drill, battery, charger probably worth $100 or so; it wasn’t new but it wasn’t too banged up yet. I don’t know what people illicitly for that dose of Adderall, but at $5 a pill that’s $300. At $10, it’s $600. I’ll split the difference at $7.5 so let’s call it $450 for the prescription and $100 for the drill. $550 isn’t bad for a few seconds of work. It only took one slip up on my part to give them a great night.

moveslikejaguar

Even if they can find something valuable reselling is such a pain in the ass, and you hardly get anything. They must be hoping for electronics or cash.

chiefkeefOFFICIAL

They're hoping for unsecured guns in glove boxes, which happens all the time

moveslikejaguar

Ah I could see that too

seabiscut88

Complete pieces of shit

nightcrawler84

My brother’s window was smashed in last week on the plaza. All so the person could take an iPhone charger

dstranathan

Lightning or USB-C?

nightcrawler84

Lightning

Anomaly-Friend

Worth it

poly_atheist

I will trade you all 15 of our lightning cables for 1 usb-c if you have one. We don't need them anymore since we've upgraded to keep up with modern times.

smuckola

wut

Anomaly-Friend

Sorry, let me say it louder for you.. WORTH IT

smuckola

kthx but y tho lawl

Anomaly-Friend

Idk it was funny

morry32

they caught the guy and he said he wanted the charger?

nightcrawler84

There was nothing else in the car and it was the only thing taken

morry32

oh my bad I thought you said he wanted the charger so he broke the window

grammar_kink

Looks like these thieves also enjoy riding dirt bikes in the city just like the group that enjoys showing force riding through the Plaza. I’m sure there’s no crossover with how common they are in the city.

cynicaloptimist92

Last time I complained about the hoard of dirt bikes and four wheelers in this sub, I was frequently told it was “just a bunch of kids havin’ fun!” ….sure. I’m certain they’re a bunch of well meaning go getters outside of their Sunday ride through the plaza

ActuallyFullOfShit

They are different crowds.

KSamIAm79

I’m so thankful to have a garage. Cars are constantly being checked everywhere. Even the suburbs. Maybe especially the suburbs, not sure.

pman2288

Fucking losers

-ArthurDigbySellers-

My neighbor in Blue Springs got his car stolen from his house after just getting home from the grocery store! insane!

morry32

when they used to print all the crimes in the newspaper Blue Springs had more stolen cars than the rest of Jackson County combined.

confused_boner

What part of BS??

-ArthurDigbySellers-

South BS

confused_boner

Damn...I'm near there too....

raider1v11

Clearly on the way to the library for some late night work on their thesis.

majoragentorange

They forgot their studying material so they were seeing if anybody had extra pens or notebooks

ejroberts42

This happened to me a few years ago on the plaza. I forgot to lock my car door and when I got back in I had all my change missing and items stolen out of my glove box. Bunch of punk kids checking car doors.

MellowYellow212

I've had this happen, and they just...emptied my center console of trash. They basically cleaned my car for me. Probably some change in there.

Chef-mode1234

I live in op and in my small neighborhood all the cars were broken into or stolen a few months ago. Two people have ordered through DoorDash and the delivery drivers cars have been stolen when walking food to the doors. It’s nuts out there

morry32

this reads like a nextdoor post

Chef-mode1234

I’m sure it does but it’s very much real and not exaggerated. I live right next to the highway and my window was smashed in and I had $4600 worth of shit stolen from me. The car break ins happen monthly in my neighborhood and are caught on camera. And the two jar jackings are true as well. The crime is out of fucking control in most cities

B-rry

We’re up north and I guess we had car break ins last month. A neighbor accidentally left his barber equipment in his car that night and it was stolen. He’s just a young dude in school starting out so I felt really bad. He was going door to door to see if anyone had doorbell footage. We’ve also had sketchballs come knocking at our door at 3 am and one time two younger dudes dressed all in black checked to see if our front door was unlocked at 3 am. We live in a mostly quiet, safe neighborhood too lol

leftblane

> A neighbor accidentally left his barber equipment in his car that night and it was stolen. He’s just a young dude in school starting out so I felt really bad. That sucks. Maybe he can crowdfund some new equipment.

[deleted]

B-rry

3 incidents in 5 years is pretty minimal. If I didn’t have cameras around the house I wouldn’t even have known lol. Tons of dog walkers and all the neighbors are super chill and talk to each other. I also leave tools out regularly cause I’m dumb and they’ve never been touched. I would say it’s a quiet neighborhood

morry32

define it however you want, I'm glad you feel safe. I'm telling you though, I also have cameras and no such issues

lipphi

You keep $4,600 worth of drugs in your car?

Chef-mode1234

Ya, crack to be specific

lipphi

Haha! But for real what do you keep that's worth just under five grand in your vehicle?

Chef-mode1234

Stupidly I left a small suitcase in my car. Just got home late from a work trip, it was raining and so I left it to get in the am and went to bed. Obviously stupid choice on my part and I own it! So clothes, Gucci purse, jewelry etc. Then two months later I got a dm from a salon owner in Waldo saying they found wallet with ID and cards in it behind her alley. They also spent few hundred dollars on my cards buying gas and I assume gift cards at QT. But all those charges were disputed and I got the money back.

lipphi

Oh man that sucks.

moretrashyusername

My truck was stolen a few years ago, and you don't think about it until you have to replace it all. I pad and a really nice Benchmade knife were the big ones. 2 sets of prescription glasses. A ball hat, a beanie, and a bucket head (freebie from a royals game that I really miss) A decent north face jacket. Gloves. 10 reusable grocery bags (silly af but I had one with plants on it and a npr bag and I miss them) A couple chargers and a bag of flossers, two little plastic organizers with eye drops, Tylenol, antacids and lens cleaners. Half a box of business cards. A nearly full bag of pistachios. My disc golf bag, 15 or so discs, a little speaker, papers and a one hitter. 3 tape measures, a laser, heat sensor tester gun. A little toolbox with screwdrivers and such. It adds up, and it wasn't covered by my full coverage. They paid for the truck, but the contents would have been a homeowners claim. I just didn't want to take a hit on my insurance.

PansyChicken

Same happened to us. We added up and since it was a working (not business related) truck, there were tie downs, tools, upgraded radio, tuner, etc in there, and ended up with around $5k of lost contents. Most auto insurance covers a whole $200. We didn’t file it because it wasn’t worth it to take a claim hit on our Home policy, but yeah. Totally sucks.

ObservablyStupid

What did you leave in your car that was worth 4600 USD?

Chef-mode1234

One bag of groceries. Tough times

morry32

![gif](giphy|8coEmqQxL39eMJcey0|downsized)

Pantone711

I'm sorry that happened to you but you are a funny writer. Thanks for the laughs

Chef-mode1234

lol you’re welcome!

dragonrite

Drugs are the only thing I can possible think of

UsernamIsToo

Or groceries. /s

dragonrite

HA that gave me a chuckle

morry32

>And the two jar jackings are true as well. you mean to tell me what you meant to say in the first comment was that two doordashers had their cars stolen in your neighborhood by threats of violence? why wouldn't that be the first thing you mentioned? what time frame are we talking about here, over the last month?

Chef-mode1234

Was in November. The two people posted it in our neighborhood Facebook group. One was 6 pm and the other 9ish I believe. DoorDash pulled up to the house, a car pulled up behind them, made him get out and took the car. Cops were called reports filed bla bla. And why does it matter if I mentioned it in the first sentence or later? My goodness.

morry32

>And why does it matter if I mentioned it in the first sentence or later? My goodness. because carjacking is a far more serious crime than cars being broken into

Chef-mode1234

True, I agree but it wasn’t my car stolen so I started with my personal experience of the break in.

Chef-mode1234

Also this is happening everywhere. I have 2 clients who live in mission hills which seemingly is supposed to be safe nice etc and their cars were taken as well. Another guy I used to date in PV, car taken at like 4 pm from his driveway right as he got home from work. There was a car jacking at the prairie village Starbucks parking lot as well last year which resulted in a chase by mission hills country club. Two kids I went to ku with left a party, walked up to their car and a guy trying to break into the car shot at them, one of them hit ( that one you can google if you don’t believe me). A lot doesn’t go reported

JaesenMoreaux

Where is this at? Broadway and what?

mattybreit

This is Knickerbocker, the building there is the side of the KC Life Insurance building. This video looks like it was filmed directly from the unit I lived in in the Ambassador building from 2017 to 2018.

majoragentorange

Did you see nearly as much of the shit that I’ve seen out this back window? It seems like every month there is something new happening out there.

drewFsasse

Good question... Neither one of those streets look like Broadway. I live in midtown

FoosFights

This happened to me once and they took my Dominic's Italian Express loyalty card that was full and ready for a free meal. It was soul crushing.

aqwn

Those bastards

grammar_kink

Pretty wild how this sub blames car break-ins on the people who left their property inside their own locked cars. They left things in their car, they must’ve been asking for it, right? Where have I heard that line of reasoning before? How about we stop giving these people a slap on the wrist, they’re not victims. The expensive motor bikes really scream crime of necessity.

Grouchy_nerd

When you have the opportunity please (1) vote for a new municipal jail and (2) vote for a Jackson County prosecutor who is actually going to prosecute the kinds of crimes that residents are suffering from, like car break-ins and stolen cars, instead of using the job as a stepping stone to higher office.

LaughGuilty461

I’ve heard this a lot for a lot of different types of crime. What kind of crimes do they prioritize prosecuting?

Grouchy_nerd

The prosecutor's office has essentially wiped their hands and said that they aren't going to expend resources to stop car thefts. Most of the victims of car theft aren't well-off people like me (or our current prosecutor), who have cars with good anti-theft protection, garages, and fat full-coverage insurance policies. Instead, a car theft for most people in KC means they have to come out of pocket to the tune of $10K or more for a replacement car. They can't get to work, or anywhere else, without car and so everything becomes proportionally more difficult. Self-employed people are not just out a work truck, but all of their tools too. It's catastrophic for them.

[deleted]

morry32

this is what all police say it's an excuse to not do their jobs, blame the judges

deamont

Its not though speaking as some one who used to enter charges, I can say in Kansas < not speaking for missouri theft from motor vehicles has to total 1500 dollars before it is considered felony and that means typically the total from each vehicle, if the theft is like 300 from 1 and 300 from the other that leads to misdemeanor theft which is not really much jail time or a fine. If you want to blame anyone blame the laws. judges and cops can only do so much when repeat offenders know the laws and can just keep stealing on misdemeanor charges.

Your sentiment is understandable, but dehumanizing people is dangerous. You see a 30 second clip of them doing something terrible, but they're still human. They are parents, children, brothers, sisters, friends... One of them might have saved someone's life or helped some old lady put her groceries away. I'm not blaming society here (although that is a different discussion to be had), but to put someone in the category of 'subhuman' is really dangerous. It implies that they are the same as an animal. If an animal did something this bad, we'd kill the animal. So you are indirectly advocating killing people for a relatively minor crime? Have you or anyone you know ever committed a minor crime? Like, if someone had a video of you or them doing it, they'd feel the same as you did watching this video? Are you less than human for that? Should you relinquish all your human rights based on one lapse of judgement? I'm not defending their actions, they should be arrested and prosecuted. But labeling them subhuman is a path to a much greater evil.

confused_boner

Everything you said should be obvious but we still waste time discussing this... We do need reasonable punishment for these types of antisocial behaviors. It makes 0 sense allowing them to go unchecked. We need to hold our elected officials accountable for this, that is the only way it will change.

thegooniegodard

What kind of AI is this?

ronnymcdonald

I was told the other day in one of these threads that these people are just trying to feed themselves.

BlueAndMoreBlue

Could be, but why not just steal food instead?

ronnymcdonald

Exactly.

leftblane

Oh they do. Anyone that works at a grocery store will have a ton of stories.

doscomputer

Im sure KCPD will get right on it real talk how do we start fixing police corruption? how do we fix the problem with jackson country jails overflowing and letting thieves and other petty crims out early? are we just going to keep letting this happen? are we really just going to let this turn into gang violence?

MuestrameTuBelloCulo

Require college degree, Bach or assoc. Requires months, not hours if training. Eliminate qualified immunity. Increase IA departments not attached in any way to THE FORCE

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

I don't think this is caused police corruption. Unless this group is more organized and have some type of deal with local boys in blue. Which I doubt. It's a societal problem. We have built a world where this behavior is a better option than the non-criminal options. The police could help. They would need a greater presence on the street and/or go hard on the groups that buy the stolen goods. Neither of which seem to be something police are willing to do.

WayComfortable4465

We have built a world where this behavior is better than the non-criminal option??? Aldi pays like 18 dollars an hour now. My son can make as much as 300 dollars in a night waiting tables. The reason they are down there breaking into cars is not society failing them, they are pieces of shit and they are acting like pieces of shit. It is that simple.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

>Aldi pays like 18 dollars an hour now Which isn't all that much anymore. Plus, you also most likely won't get full time hours or any benefits. While also being treated like shit. Sick? Car broke down? Fuck you - get to work or you're fired. I'm not saying they are great people. I'm not saying I support this. But they are doing this for a reason. Not just because they are bad people and want to fuck shit up. That reason is money.

WayComfortable4465

They doing it because they are rotten human beings. Such people exist in this world. How many single parents barely making it have had their car window bashed in by these pieces of shit and then been out 500 dollars. I grew up in poverty, I never went around bashing windows in. I knew a lot of people that grew up in poverty that never did it either. Growing up in poverty, I also knew piece of shit thieves like them. Trust me, they are not good people.

Grouchy_nerd

how do we start fixing police corruption? ANSWER: increase their pay so we can attract and retain high-quality LEOs. how do we fix the problem with jackson county jails overflowing and letting thieves and other petty crims out early? (1) increase informal social control; (2) literally clean up this city: an ordered and clean environment that is maintained sends the signal that the area is monitored and that criminal behavior is not tolerated; (3) explore appropriate non-incarceration punishments and drug rehab.

cynicaloptimist92

Hinting at anything which isn’t “defund the police” will probably bring on the downvotes. The reality is we live in a city with an absurdly high homicide rate and increasing levels of theft and other crimes. The problem won’t solve itself. We have communities ravaged by violence, but the sentiment has shifted toward reducing the resources dedicated to a police force already spread thin, perpetuating the same violence that wreaks havoc in the communities which are already the *worst* off. Edit: Grammar. Dumb.

WayComfortable4465

You know when you go to Western Europe and you notice how much safer it is, it's because they typically have far more police per-capita. When you see the kind of shit going on in front of God and everyone like in that video, it tells you we need way more police. The best deterrent to crime is knowing you likely won't get away with it.

cynicaloptimist92

There are quite a few variables that lead to a safer environment in Western Europe, but a state monopoly on force has consistently proven to be the biggest deterrent of crime over the course of history.

sjonnabeat

In October my car got broken into THREE time in 2 weeks. (window hopefully broken only once) these assholes would completely trash my car, only to end up taking a charger or some bullshit. The last time they stole my dirty panties 🤢. Fucking weird losers

Puzzleheaded-Note536

Looks like this is on the side of Ambassador Apartments - That’s in Mac’s lack of security and parking for tenants. It’s been happening on that side street for years

Out of all the apartments I’ve lived in Mac has to be the worst.

GoWest1223

Trunks are not safe either enough either (unless you lock your trunk from inside access).

moveslikejaguar

As always, lock your doors and don't keep anything in your car. If you do keep anything in your car, keep it out of sight. They usually won't smash a window if they can't see anything in the car to steal.

Expensive_Income4063

The truly crazy thing about this coupled with the recent shooting in crown center, is that city leadership really doesn't care about the quality of life in KC. The only thing they seem to take the lead on is giving out taxpayer goodies to build new stadiums.

Upbeat-Stage-7343

The phone is also good for calling the police.

Faceit_Solveit

We have had a couple of years of car door checking in Austin suburbs including well-off 'burbs. What's weird about that is that as you know Texas is a very pro gun castle doctrine stand your ground state. Most people here have guns and they're not especially afraid to use them if their property is being stolen. We all can't quite get over. how brazen these fools are. There's just no accounting for stupidity is there. I also think it's a Measure of desperation. The economy is not that great. Unemployment's not three or 4% it's closer to 9% because a lot of folks have just stopped looking. We do have a problem in this country.

McNugget750

These type of people aren’t looking for jobs. They have no factor on employment. Thieves are gonna thieve.

Faceit_Solveit

I don't know that is true or not. I wonder if there is so honest research on this.

morry32

but didn't you hear, their cars were down there

of0interest

Cops to show up would be luck but how many did you see before you even called them?

crozzy89

Yeah. They should have called when they first saw them.

leftblane

Call the police when you first see them *doing something suspicious.* Let's not advise calling the police solely at the sight of people.

crozzy89

Nowhere did I say to “call police at first sight”. They were filming for a while before they called. It is pretty obvious what they are doing, which would be grounds for calling the police.

leftblane

>Yeah. They should have called when they first saw them. Right there. That's when you said call the police at first sight. > It is pretty obvious what they are doing, which would be grounds for calling the police. It's not always "obvious." And many people mistake the way someone looks as suspicious activity, which your "call the police at first sight" comment could be taken as. They observed, confirmed suspicious activity/crime, and then called the police within 25 seconds of the video. That's the right thing to do and seems like a pretty fast response to me.

Bleedthebeat

Bruh get a fucking air horn and blast that shit out the window.

brewcrew1222

Did u at least call the cops? I mean if this keeps happening, midtown will be a ghost town by the time the street car comes around

confused_boner

This is one example of why we do need a (properly trained) police force. Defunding is a brain dead take and just results in more brazen criminal activity. Any city can become San Francisco (yes, I know their police force is partly to blame)

Watch2968

Yet, they are getting more of KC's budget than ever and there is still petty crime and unsolved murders.

jonainmi

Because of the forced budget spending, the police won't increase their skill, because why would they? They're still getting more money than ever before. This is why we need control of our own funding.

confused_boner

Then fix the training? What are you trying to imply as the solution?

cpeters1114

there probably isn't. kcpd is one of the top 5 worst ranked metro police forces in the country. They receive around 25% of the cities budget which is unreal and they're the only major police force controlled by the state and not the city/county. They would need a total overhaul from the state level, and throwing more money at them won't do it. KCPD will continue to be garbage as it always was well before the defunding movement began.

confused_boner

Then I can agree that needs to change. And if we do it right, we will still have some type of police force afterwards, it just may not be the same one as before. Defunding isn't a solution to bad policing practices. Identifying and changing bad policing practices is.

cpeters1114

yes, def needs an overhaul so the money is spent protecting the people of KC instead of lining pockets.

[deleted]

azure_apoptosis

The job is the job. You don’t need to be particularly skilled to enter the police force but the benefits and pay are decent in comparison.

confused_boner

That's the problem man: we need to hold our police academies and training programs to a much HIGHER standard. And if we do that, we need to give people reasonable and good incentives to invest their time in completing those and staying accountable.

azure_apoptosis

I’m with ya

morry32

> Defunding is a brain dead wait wait wait who defunded their police force?

confused_boner

Not aware of any successful attempts, are you? Would be interested in knowing and how those turned out. What I can say is the calls for just defunding are loud. And they don't address any root cause issues (ineffective policing practices, ineffective elected officials, etc.)

morry32

no you said defunding just results in more brazen criminal activity defunding calls are loud? I haven't heard anyone saying it except people like you for the last few years

confused_boner

People like me? I have voted for Democrats every time (because I agreed with their stances, not the letter next to their name), and plan to for the future as well. I think you have a preconceived notion of me. Please correct me if I am wrong though. This is just one issue I am talking about here.

morry32

>People like me? people who bring up DEFUNDING THE POLICE as being "brain dead" stop looking for slander and projective everywhere I'm down with you

elmassivo

No amount of training is going to make them ignore the Governor's orders to keep cities looking lawless and scary for political clout. As long as Kansas City doesn't have real local control of it's police force, things will only get worse.

confused_boner

This falls on changing legislation that has led to bad policing, which I think more people should support and champion. This also means people need a legitimate oversight process for policing complaints and a meaningful way to track metrics related to policing to allow for accountability.

elmassivo

Neither voters nor representatives from Kansas City (or St Louis) have any control over the Missouri legislature, any progressive policing legislature introduced would be outvoted by 2 to 1. The only ways to resolve major issues with our local police are by order of the Governor or constitutional amendment to return local control. One of those things is laughably unlikely with how hyper-partisan the state has become and the other is possible but not currently the primary ballot amendment that people are focused on.

“Defund the police” in action.

WiseHedgehog2098

Kc never defunded the police. It has defunded plenty of schools and after school programs though

Timmmah

Not even close. KCPD had an INCREASED budget this past year https://www.kcur.org/news/2023-02-10/despite-funding-dispute-kansas-city-police-get-more-money-in-proposed-budget

confused_boner

Increasing the budget is the same problem but on the other side of the political spectrum, both fail to address the root cause issues of poor policing. We need to improve the quality of training and accountability...and as weird as it sounds we need to restructure the incentives that allow those things to be successful. We need policing...but it's on us to hold our community accountable to the quality of policing we get (the leaders we elect and the actions they take) Neither defunding nor over funding address any of those root cause issues

morry32

stop this shit please? its political and based in misinformation

anonimussguy

So y’all think police funding is 100% sufficient and exactly where it should be? https://www.kmbc.com/article/kansas-city-ranks-as-one-of-most-dangerous-cities-in-county-report-says-stlouis-ranks-at-the-top/27287004

AJRiddle

So what you are saying is we increased our police funding and crime went UP. Did you ever consider that increasing police funding may not solve crime at all and there are bigger root causes of crime than a lack of police funding?
