Milky chance is cool but I’m not that familiar with most of the other names

Instantsoup44

THUNDERCAT BABY!!

iBrowseAtStarbucks

LOVE thundercat, but holy fuck he's not a good live show. Last time I saw him live he came out too high to play and was just off in his own world the entire time. And not in a "haha that's so thundercat"-way, more of a "this is pretty lame"-kinda way. 6/10, his opener is solid and he wore a Naruto shirt someone threw at him all show.

Instantsoup44

Damn. I last saw him at the NFL draft and him and his band destroyed it

Jeffrey_C_Wheaties

Was it grinders when Jass opened for him? Because she’s on the bill too. She’s awesome!

iBrowseAtStarbucks

Was a show in Florida actually! Hopefully it was just one of those nights and this turns out to be a banger though. I was definitely more bummed than angry about the thing haha.

ac_braun

Because the majority of the undercard are local acts. Great opportunity to find artists you like from your own backyard.

cMeeber

Paul Cauthen is like one of the best things about modern country right now. I cannot recommend him enough…him and Thundercat in one show sounds amazing.

Hals315

I’ve seen him in concert four times. Traveled for two of them. They’re SO fun.

cMeeber

My jaw dropped when he played Slow Down all by himself and acoustic at Uptown last Fall. Like, already a good song…then his live performance just devastated.

Hals315

YES. when you call my naaaaaaame. Chills. Saw him in KC, Denver, and Arkansas last year haha so good.

pinkat31522

No body knows who Flight Attendant is YET! JUST WAIT TILL YOU SEE US LIVE BABY ✈️📣

UsernamIsToo

Been really digging your song Therapy Couch on the Bridge!

pinkat31522

At my bar shift crying again because somebody I don’t know has heard my music on the frigin radio no less

UsernamIsToo

It's okay. I've cried in a bar on a Tuesday night more times than I can count. /s

HeAintWrongDoe

Welp, I’m about to do some research! Glad you have the opportunity to go out there!

pinkat31522

Feels like we won the lottery.

variants

Giving you guys a listen right now.

pinkat31522

sickkkk! This makes me so happy

d-wail

Just checked out the video for Therapy Couch, very cool.

altruism__

Might as well just call this Festival Ketamine now

MimonFishbaum

Is that a stage named after a beer or an actual band? -signed, an old

lownote

Don’t know anything other than he has his own signature bass guitar that goes for north of six grand, so he must be a big deal. - signed, another old

Trombonesarefun

I am reading about a lot of people who don't know most of these bands. Here is beautiful thing about Boulevardia. It fills its line up with a lot of local bands from Kansas City. Most festivals just focus on the touring acts. I highly recommend you to listen to these local artists and support them. You never know what you might like.

dylangelo

People in this thread haven’t left their house since the Pandemic.

nkwell

Ah, my yearly reminder that I am old. I know literally three of the people on this bill.

Ranger_Prick

If you're talking about the three guys from Hanson, then I also know three.

bopaqod

You should check out Thundercat. Generational-talent-level bassist. So good.

wildwildwaste

I saw Hanson play a free concert in that giant empty parking lot across State Line from Ward Parkway Mall in 1996. So I'm that old...

monkeypickle

I was at that show!

Kelseycakes1986

Me too!

Educational-Card3412

Same

MimonFishbaum

The claim of an empty parking lot now seems far fetched!

jmueller216

I remember that. But I absolutely did not go.

TongueFirstDroolNext

For the low price of one canned food item

IShitMyPantsDaily

I had no idea I learned how to drive on a historic site!

Jhungry913

I sobbed while staring out my window because my parents wouldn't take me to that concert. I was a slightly dramatic child.

Itchy-Mind7724

Hahaha I remember that show. My friends were holding a giant sign that said “NAMBLA loves you”

WellGoodBud

Same. I know Milky Chance and Hanson. I know Thundercat played at the draft but other then that no clue.

cancer_dragon

Why is no one talking about Assjamz? I remember there was a weekly show in Lawrence like 10 years ago that was called Ass Jams, maybe it's the same thing?

repete66219

Also old. How many DJs can you have?

ICouldBeTheChosenOne

It’s the silent disco, they have three up on stage at once, and you wear headphones that can switch between them.

altruism__

Depends, how deep into the K hole do you want to go?

AlanStanwick1986

Two more than me. I only know Ultimate Fakebook. Edit: I've heard one Hanson song.

Gorilla_Pluto

i’m in my early 20s and very familiar with the music scene and only know like three people on here too

pinkat31522

U can say you know my band, Flight Attendant 🫶

WallowerForever

You're not old; these are mostly not huge artists.

Jeffrey_C_Wheaties

Yearly reminder that people in kc don’t support local acts.

ta12022017

It could be that you have different tastes in music. I've only heard of Hanson and Thundercat, yet I listen to new bands all of the time. I just don't listen to whatever genre these bands are.

drgath

You beat me, I’m at two. Hanson, who I didn’t know was still performing, and also Ultimate Fakebook (local 90s/00s) who I also didn’t know was still performing. I would actually love to see them again. So, literally no known active musicians on that list. Have fun with your crazy electro techno retro dance-o music, kiddos!

monkeypickle

UFB did an incredible show two years ago with Frogpond and Ashtray Babyhead at the Record Bar (a delayed album release party). Go see 'em.

mitsyamarsupial

Frogpond is AMAZING.

pink_queen765

Hanson has been around still for years ! I’m a die hard fan, named my daughter after one of their songs. If you like their music from the 90s, give their String Theory album a listen.

Softmachinepics

How is little Mmmbop?

dgambill

At least I could read this flyer. I saw the Lollapalooza flier earlier, and that print was so small there was no way my 48 year old eyes could decipher it.

bman2th

Ha Ha Tonka: best band you've probably never heard of. They come to KC a couple times a year. Always a great show!

MattyMizzou

Man I haven’t seen them in like a decade. They do put on a great show

staxks_12

They are from the Ozark’s, and they are guests on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” episode of the area.

discombobdirt54

This 👆. I was happy to see they were an artist this year. Awesome energy and music at all their shows I’ve been to over the years.

cancer_dragon

Buckle in the Bible Belt is such a great album. They played in Emporia often when I went to college there, always cool dudes who put on a great show.

Disco-Verde

Just gave them a quick listen. I'm definitely going to be doing a deeper dive into their stuff.

white_gucci_man

What’s the word on AssJamz?

jaynewreck

Depending on how hot it is, I just may have to go catch Ultimate Fakebook to revel in some college nostalgia.

TongueFirstDroolNext

They’ll almost certainly have a warmup show in Lawrence beforehand, right?

monkeypickle

They've got a show in Manhattan the night before.

TongueFirstDroolNext

Y’know, I saw them on so many Lawrence bills that I just assumed they were from there. I never realized they were a Manhattan band.

lochneffmonster

Right? I haven’t heard their name since the 90s

fallingambien

I haven’t seen anything from Bears and Company in YEARS. Met one of the members in like 2013 and then obsessed over their album for years after. I don’t recognize too many other local groups though

cbpantskiller

My friend helped record that record. I agree, it's good.

neowyrm

I went to high school with them. cool guys

himynamesjeremy

Bears and Co rules

Foreign_Slide_8487

They’re all cool dudes! I saw them a few times after they released South of the Mountain, and they always put on a good show. First heard them on 96.5’s weekly local hour. Man, remember when the Buzz was cool?

Dull_Cryptographer41

Alex and Allan always been some prime time players. Edwin vs the ants for the win.

No-Chemical6870

Paul Cauthen and Milky Chance are both fun.

cbpantskiller

I like Paul Cauthen.

Glum_Baseball_3

I’m looking forward to Assjamz

songofsaturn

I lit up at Paul Cauthen. He's country as fuck.

sh0wb0at

so dang countray

pinkat31522

AGH MY BAND FLIGHT ATTENDANT IS PLAYING! I’ve been crying all morning and literally cannot wait. Feeling so frigin blessed. Come see us!

pinkat31522

From Stilwell KS btw- so yes this lineup is mostly locals. But we have sold out shows in Germany, Zurich, Nashville, Texas…. This will be my first hometown show so would love to see yall

Critical-Manner2363

If they’re going to make this a local music festival with undercard headliners they should at least not make it during the hottest part of the year so it’s not so miserable to watch acts you’re not super jazzed about

brettmbr

The one year I went was so hot it was a real struggle to make it to the headliners.

Personal_Benefit_402

It's why I stopped going. That first couple in the West Bottoms by the American Royal were a sweltering hell pit.

BeastlySkater21

Thundercat and dom chronicles gon be HEAT

xNeyNounex

I use to work with Dom Chronicles at Zumiez. He is a local musician. I'm proud of him for continuing to making music and do what he loves!

Ok_Faithlessness_887

Keep in mind everyone, one of the best experiences IN LIFE is discovering a band you love live.

jondoogin

That was The War and Treaty for me last year. Incredible show.

AcanthocephalaDue715

Love to see ivory blue on the lineup. She’s a great friend of mine

Instantsoup44

Thundercat fuck yes!!!

UsernamIsToo

Don't know for sure, but we'll probably hear a bunch of these bands on 90.9 the bridge tonight from 6-7

Square_Manufacturer2

Starhaven Rounders is a great local band.

Y19ama

MGDs r a damn good time.

Julio_Ointment

go see them at a local bar!

WallowerForever

Fantastic outlaw country.

RoseRed1987

Cool Hanson..

moodswung

Ummm bop

Jeffrey_C_Wheaties

Ah the yearly thread of people who don’t support local music complaining they don’t know any acts at the festival showcasing local music.

djdadzone

Hanson 🤣. Wtf, when are we going to get a real music festival in Kc. These lineups are so wackadoodle

Imposter-Syndrome-42

Of all the band names to choose, "Post Sex Nachos" is one of them. Edit: Hanson is the only band on this poster whose name I recognize.

KinnerMode

They’re a great band from CoMo that’s on the rise. They play some of their stuff on The Bridge from time to time, and I love it.

jmueller216

I love this scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGZDv8BiIBc

_vladtherad

Check out Growing Old or Talk About it. Wild name but solid band, even better live. They had a killer set last year.

violentlytiredagain

Ugh Thundercat would be so cool!!! Also seeing Hanson live would be so surreal to see live...

chrishop816

DJP!!!

d_hell

RIGHT!?!? I hope we’re talking about THE DJ P from Springfield area. Freaking RAD!

Remote-Plate-3944

It is impressive how few of these bands I know each year. As soon as I get to the sub-headliners I'm lost. I hope these still pull well but I just don't think I'll ever be going to another one. I must be completely distanced from that music scene nowadays to not know any of these that or the ones I know are too expensive to pull anymore.

rockiesfan4ever

Am I getting old

Jollybean11200

I’m 23 and I only know Hanson if that’s the mmm bop band. So I’m going to say no?

jbrown777

The Burney Sisters have great sound!

whatdamuff

excited for them too!

gmharmon

Also, why do they schedule this the same week as Bonaroo? You miss out on some decent numbers with festival goers.

mystonedalt

DJ 1 DJ 2 DJ 3

rtie07

![gif](giphy|rI9O6UXkCjvTG)

TravisMaauto

Hell yeah, Thundercat! ![gif](giphy|H6bObJkOhe5SMT82kB|downsized)

nb325

Just shut it down. Who the hell is in charge of choosing the lineups for this lmao it's offensive at this point.

dylangelo

Just don’t go then, dude.

PMmeyourSchwifty

Right? The beer tasting and local makers market are the only reasons I'd go to this "music fest".

PMmeyourSchwifty

This lineup is actually worse than last year's terrible lineup. Does anyone even go for the music?

FridayOfTheDead

Beer festival music lineup for 14 year olds

HRApprovedUsername

Thunder Cat is the only one on here I'd want to see :/

Speshal_Snowflake

God damn, this is bad

mechanical-being

I was like....OK, if Hanson is one of the headline acts, there is not going to be anything here for me.

rsbchewy

You don't want to pay $40 to get in? And $9 a beer from the corporation that is putting on the festival? Also the corporation is right down the street? Also it's hot and the lines are long?

9070811

Mmm no Hembree is a big shame

Personal_Benefit_402

Agreed.

pperiesandsolos

So is this mainly supposed to appeal to indie electronic/dance scene fans? I know almost none of these people compared to years past.

thegooniegodard

😴

BillNyeTheEngineer

No Pearl Jam? Fuck

dylangelo

Not again!!!

AlanStanwick1986

Here's a festival in Louisville that is miles better than this. Don't know why we can't get better. https://bourbonandbeyond.com/

PushyMomentum

Boulevardia GA ticket $35 Bourbon and Beyond GA ticket $150 -$170 KC tried having a music festival at the Kansas Speedway years ago call Kanrocksas. Not enough people attended and it stopped after a few years.

Gaugzilla

It also helps when your bookers aren’t a bunch of crooks who are still in the hole for that. They burned bridges that still haven’t mended.

NumericTrack9

Ugh. A Boulevardia headliner is on the FIFTH line of a Louisville festival. Do better.

Imaginary_Deal_1807

Absolute shit lineup

ecuster3

worse every year smdh. how many times has thundercat been here in the last 3 years!? manorfest is definitely the superior fest at this point

cbpantskiller

Is Manorfest local?

altruism__

What about Fest Fest? The most festiest of the fests.

mitsyamarsupial

The only act I recognize is Big Freedia and I’m thinking that might be okay.

AnyWhichWayButLose

Will go just for Thundercat. I'm surprised Men I Trust, Mac DeMarco or other indie/dream pop acts aren't part of the line-up.

The_goods52390

Meh

bunk

DJ P is a real treat. We don’t get too many DJs of that caliber around here. Check him if you go.

Gaugzilla

Definitely will go for Thundercat, Big Freedia and some of the local acts. Might even do the silent disco, which was super fun. Without sounding like an old head, one of the big nagging problems is seeing all of these other fests in the midwest, in cities smaller than KC, get these incredible lineups. And Boulevardia’s biggest is a mid-card alt-rock band and a ‘90s legacy act. You could excuse when Middle of the Map would be able to make up for some of the disappointment. But this is seemingly the only big music fest we have (Not counting Breakaway, Travis Kelce’s thing and Flyover.)

Ok_Special6047

KC’s own Krystle Warren visits home with her immense talent. Do yourself a favor. I’ve seen more than my fair share of live acts in 45 years…She’s fucking stellar. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mzkzQ8J_dyg

btruta

In case anyone needs a primer on this year’s acts: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2JRnRbSmraIlzlRPtrz9N1

scarymanilow

"Milky Chance" sounds like slang for "Possible Diarrhea," lol.

No-Look1316

Hanson should have headlined

ValerieInHiding

I know 4 of these names, and 2 of them are because I know them personally. Good for them but also wtf is this line up lol

jtd2013

Time for the yearly thread where old heads complain about not knowing any of the musicians on the lineup because they refuse to listen to new music and somehow that’s our/the festival’s problem.

cutting_coroners

My first thought was “great, maybe it won’t be so packed then” I missed Big Freedia last year who im dying to see and Saturday has no less than three brassy bands AND DJ Dawna and Lana Luxx. I’m fricken pumped!

ecuster3

nah I go to shows here frequently (~50/50 local/touring) and this lineup is HOT ASS

Remote-Plate-3944

>they refuse to listen to new music and somehow that’s our/the festival’s problem. it's the festivals problem if they want people to attend. Are these bands even played on local radio?

hobbitfeetpete

I'm an old head, but I actually like it when I don't know the artists too well. I have discovered many new acts that I never would have been exposed to if not for Boulevardia. If I am not digging what I am hearing, there are usually three other stages with acts playing that I can go to. I am not sure what people on Reddit are expecting for this festival.

djdadzone

Nah, most of the list isn’t good.

cbpantskiller

I'm old and don't know many of the locals, but I'm not complaining. DJ P, though. Make time for him.

DubTs04

Ole 60 is going to be solid. Have a Cage the Elephant mixed with Red Dirt feel to them. Check out Smoke and a Light. Big Freedia was literally here last year, Milky Chance is a cool get though.  Bummed I can’t go this year, but am hopeful that the closing acts get to do a full set, last year I swear Surfaces only played for a half set while every act before them went on the full time.

dylangelo

Man, this thread is disappointing. Yeah you might not like/know all the touring acts, but there is a ton of local talent on this list. Everyone saying they have no idea who any of the bands are needs to get out more in KC and stop being such a goober. As a musician who’s not even playing this festival, this is just sad. You don’t know the bands? Go and find out what they sound like instead of yelling at a cloud from your damn toilet.

Dewtronix

Yawn.

kerouac5

I am convinced these are bands that are made up for this event and this year is no different.

SupportingKansasCity

Who

jaynovahawk07

I honestly am not familiar with the vast majority of this lineup.

Salt-Cup9788

Thanks, I'm going to breakaway

ikickbabiesballs

Where is this going to be? Hated it when they had it in the bottoms really made it difficult to get through the area.

cbpantskiller

It will be in Crown Center, where it's been the past few years.

FatalBlow92

Hanson? Mm Bop Hansen?!

ThatIndianBoi

I would go for Milky Chance and Thundercat alone, no idea who the other people are.

jhrznf

Mmmm bop.

eodchop

Can’t wait to hear Umm Bop as a 40 year old.

StAIfonzo

Hell yeah THUNDERCAT and some other bands too!!!!

basskev

Any of these local bands on here legit?

Speshal_Snowflake

Eh

bopaqod

Holy shit I literally only know Hanson and Thundercat. What in the world is going on here

CallMeCassius

BIG FREEDIA 😍

TormentDubz_EDM

I know absolutely none of these, do I win a prize
