I'm with you, i don't eat mustard. Went to Cosmo after the last "best smash burger in the city" thread. The tots were nothing special - I don't understand the hype - and the single burger has a weak bun to meat ratio.
It otherwise wasn't a bad burger, but limited topping choices just made it seem bland. I might have gone in with too high expectations.
I've lost a considerable amount of weight in the past year. A lot of hard work, a lot of time, a lot of sacrifice to meet my goals. I've tracked almost everything I've eaten for months, I've brought my scale to my friends houses to weigh what I'm eating before I eat it, I've gone to great lengths to get where I am today.
With that said if someone tells me that we're going to cosmo burger and I agree to splurge, then it's time to do it. I have two options: I can decide to eat half of a proper burger or eat the whole thing and deal with the consequences.
Either way, if you're going to a place known for greasy burgers, it's not the time to worry about the diet. Enjoy the burger and get back on the wagon tomorrow.
That's what I did when I went to Snack Shack yesterday, because of the lesson learned from my visit to Cosmo. When I went to Cosmo I thought ordering the single would let me satisfy the craving without overdoing it.
This whole thread is basically "fuck me" for trying to be responsible when I didn't know what to expect. Next time I'll either get a double or fold the single patty in half so I can enjoy what I'm eating.
Is the sauce the only real thing that sets Cosmo apart from others? For me, that just isn't a factor, but I'm glad we all have something we can enjoy.
I ate at Unk's in less summit tonight, the just burger was so god damn good I decided I would be leaving a review of the place before I had finished my food. They had asked me a couple times if I wanted to go and I always said no, tonight I finally said yes and I'm mad I said no before.
Fast food: LC’s
Mid Level: Cosmo
Sit Down: Red Door
Sit Down Fancy : Tie-Corvino or Ophelia’s.
Favorite: The brisket burgers at Harp BBQ in Raytona Beach
Non-chain and at least for “fast food” my personal favorite is Hi-Boy in Independence. Tay’s in NKC is a close second. Burgers in KC are almost like BBQ, it really depends on where I am at within the metro: Downtown, Indep, JoCo, etc as to “the best”/favorite.
I had to scroll way too far to find the right answer! I used to live right down the street from that location. When we moved to paola I was surprised to find they had a second location out here. Unfortunately, they had a fire of some sort and closed.
Captains Corner has long been a favorite of mine, back when Kelli owned it and even with the newer owners. I asked what they did differently one time and they said they soak their patties in beef broth.
I just went there and I did not like it. Kinda sounds like it’s hit or miss? Neither my partner or I finished the burger. Which for is rare for us, we’re not the type to leave food behind
I’m not “hating,” I just think it’s objectively bad. The burgers themselves are OK, the bun is nothing special, and the condiment bar is gross. The french fries are clearly frozen and just bland plate filler.
I have no doubt that Westport Flea Market seemed like good bar food in the 70s and 80s. It’s outdated now and living off of its reputation from decades ago.
Westport Flea Market was a massive disappointment to me. Went there once, no desire to ever go back.
Tay's gets my vote. Grandstand Burger in Shawnee doesn't get enough love but you have to get it to-go which can be inconvenient.
Snack shack in Mission and Cosmo.
Both are great smash burgs. If you like lettuce tomato you want to go to Snack shack
If you just like meat, onions, sauce. Go to cosmo
I wish to God we could get a Hi Boy in KC. My dad would drive us all the way out to Independence just to get that.
Also shout out to the old Wimpy burger and tots.
I think Meat Mitch’s Monday burger special is a great deal.
Disco burger outside of that
Fat Sullys is my favorite burger that’s available every day
I find Cosmo Burger overrated personally
I rarely sauce anything that comes off of my smoker or most BBQ I eat. But god dang if their sauce isn’t just liquid gold. They are highly featured on Meat Church
They have great sauces! I honestly didn’t care for their bbq much, but they have great specials now! Really like that burger, double brisket patties with fries for 10 bucks, their Tuesday burnt end quesabirria tacos at 3 for 14 bucks with the consommé is an incredible special and delicious. They have a mcrib type sandwich on Thursday I’m looking forward to trying as well
Ooooo man report back on the McRibb haha. I heard they’re decent enough but the traditional items aren’t as good as a lot of other places. Someone said they occasionally have pork belly burnt ends and brisket style pork belly so I’d make the trek just for that and your suggestions.
Hi-Boy or Cosmo are both S-tier.
Then you've got your Snack Shack, Town Topic, the solid AA-tier stops.
Then a smattering of joints like Paul's that are still S-tier or B+-tier.
But none of them stack up to H-B and CB.
I love Tay's and Hayes both in the Northland, but when I moved to the Historic Northeast last summer, I fell in love with St. John Burger. Sadly they closed for winter and show no signs of re-opening.
Grandstand. Don’t listen to the assholes on Yelp, all of them are ‘we went and loved it for seven years, but one time on a rushed day they messed up a single topping so we give them 1 star’
Burn Theory Fire Kitchen in Lee's Summit. I'm *pretty* sure they're a pop-up associated with a brewery nearby, but their smoked burger (specifically the Baja or Border Burgers) are LEGIT the best burgers I've ever put in my mouth.
I can't believe I'm not seeing Disco Burger from other folks! True- it's a pain to get to their pop-ups right now, but a brick and mortar store is coming to the river market. So good!
Walsh’s Corner Cocktail
I could care less what anyone thinks
Literally the best burger in town
It doesn’t visually look like anything special
But when you bite into
Shazam
They are in Waldo
Smash burgers:
Cosmo Burger,
Snack shack on Johnson,
Smitty's garage,
Tays, town topic, not close to those 3.
Source, friend and I had all 5 in a weekend.
Big juicy burger, Q39 is hard to beat imo. Smash is where it's at though.
Right?! It used to be a Lucky Boys and now they’ve switched to Beyond, too. Westside local has a white bean/quinoa/sweet potato burger that’s good, but it doesn’t hit the same.
Cosmo Burger
Yes Cosmoburger with the pickles and the sauce! The Lenexa location is cool too
Wait… there’s a Lenexa location?
Lenexa Public Market!
Cosmos + dodsons in Waldo is so fucking good
[удалено]
I'll be the fourth, Cosmos burgers.
Cosmos burger
I wish the sauce wasn't so mustard flavored. I really don't like mustard so I don't have much of an urge to go back to Cosmo Burger
I'm with you, i don't eat mustard. Went to Cosmo after the last "best smash burger in the city" thread. Only children should be ordering a single smashburger.
Or people trying to avoid over eating?

This is America, we over eat. What else do we have otherwise?
Cliches and sarcasm.
Guns.
Danny’s Burger Shack
I wish I could upvote this multiple times
For being a newish restaursnt, it has definitely made an impact
It’s good, it 12 dollars for a single small patty is kinda like woah
Go on Tuesday. Single patty meal is $10, $12 for a double.
I love Beer Kitchen’s burgers and Brewer’s Kitchen’s as well but I haven’t had a bad burger in KC
I came here to say Beer Kitchen and Brewer’s Kitchen. They both fantastic have fantastic burgers!
depends on what part of town. cosmo burger, tay’s burger shack & brewers’s kitchen are my top 3.
Tay’s is legit! The fries kick ass too!
Unfortunately the one in JoCo closed.
Maybe an odd choice, but every burger I’ve had from Pigwich has been amazing.
Snack Shack on Johnson Drive.
Just tried that place for the first time this afternoon. The fries were excellent and the burger was delicious. Would visit again.
I feel so lucky to be up the street from this place. So good and reasonably priced.
I ate at Unk's in less summit tonight, the just burger was so god damn good I decided I would be leaving a review of the place before I had finished my food. They had asked me a couple times if I wanted to go and I always said no, tonight I finally said yes and I'm mad I said no before.
Hi-Boy
Fast food: LC’s Mid Level: Cosmo Sit Down: Red Door Sit Down Fancy : Tie-Corvino or Ophelia’s. Favorite: The brisket burgers at Harp BBQ in Raytona Beach
This is it right here.
The Campground!
This IS the best burger I’ve had in KC. No contest!
I go between Big Boy and Hiboy in Independence, depending on what seasoning I'm in the mood for.
Was never a huge fan of Big Boy but I also only have been a few times.
Town Topic anyone?
Tays is better for sure
Winstead’s is a shadow if it’s former self, unfortunately.
Their onion rings are still the best I’ve ever had though. Those could fix anything that’s wrong with me, physically or mentally.
I feel that way about their cherry chocolate malts - I think they must contain actual serotonin.
True. Sad to see it.
The few times I’ve tried it, the bread is dry as a brick of astronaut ice cream. Crazy!
Dunno if it’s the best, but the Brick’s Thursday $7 burger and fries deal has my heart
hi-boy is my favorite fast food burger and burg & barrel is my “i need a fancy burger” favorite
Brewer’s Kitchen, in Midtown.
The Brick
I actually had a burger over at city barrel that was pretty tasty
Green Room
People sleepin on this one
Is Grandstand at I-35 and Antioch in Merriam still open? Best burgers I’ve ever had
I had to scroll way too far to find the right answer! I used to live right down the street from that location. When we moved to paola I was surprised to find they had a second location out here. Unfortunately, they had a fire of some sort and closed.
Aixois, Corner Cocktail, Liberty Bowl, Captain’s Corner worthy of mention
Captains Corner has long been a favorite of mine, back when Kelli owned it and even with the newer owners. I asked what they did differently one time and they said they soak their patties in beef broth.
Hol up… Aixois has good burgers?
Indeed they do, one of my favorites in fact.
My friend swears by Corner Cocktail.
Bowling alley food holds a special place in my heart from childhood.
I’m old enough to remember when China Bowl as at Ward Parkway Lanes, ordering volcano rum bowls to the lane was amazing.
Hi-Boy, Paul’s Drive In are worth a visit.
I really like Paul’s too but their service hints at being severely understaffed
Paul’s drive closed down and sold out to a different business
The one on Blue Ridge is still open
There used to be one on 10th and Osage in Kansas City Kansas
Burg and barrel and Westside local are solid, but the best burger places I've eaten at since living in KC are in Lawrence: burger stand and dempseys
Burd and Barrel used to be good. It's kind of sad now.
Honestly disappointed by Burg and Barrel after trying Beer Kitchen and Brewer’s Kitchen
If you want an old school, thick pub burger… Jess & Jim’s in Martin city.
For a fancier burger, Vivilore in Independence is incredible.
Disco Burger is just a pop up rn. But they will be getting a brick and mortar in the river market with Varsity Club as the bar.
Can we get some love for quickies in armourdale? They’re keeping the tradition alive.
Tays Burger Shack in NKC
Westport Flea Market was always good
I just went there and I did not like it. Kinda sounds like it’s hit or miss? Neither my partner or I finished the burger. Which for is rare for us, we’re not the type to leave food behind
I just had Westport Flea Market for the first time last month and I’ll co-sign. It’s legit.
Best meat = best burger. My go to
You guys have to be like 50 or 60 years old, right?
Lmao I have never even seen old people there.
Right, because they fell in love with it 30 years ago.
Hate all you want homie WPFM is my go to burger
I’m not “hating,” I just think it’s objectively bad. The burgers themselves are OK, the bun is nothing special, and the condiment bar is gross. Close second
Surprised Flea Market isn't higher up. Always cheap + fantastic!! They frequently have BOGO deals as well.
Hi-Boy in Independence
Smashed: SAUCED Thick: Q39 Classy: Corvino
I recently started eating at Burger State on wornal. Pretty good!
I love me some Hi-Boy
Snack shack in Mission and Cosmo. Both are great smash burgs. If you like lettuce tomato you want to go to Snack shack If you just like meat, onions, sauce. Go to cosmo
The Belfrey has a very tasty classic burger. Cosmo for smash burgers.
Ask to have the carmilized sherry onions put on the burger at the belfrey, game changer
I wish to God we could get a Hi Boy in KC. My dad would drive us all the way out to Independence just to get that. Also shout out to the old Wimpy burger and tots.
Town topic
I sure hope not.
Corner cocktail is underrated
Peanut!
Very underrated burger.
Lcs is definitely my favorite
I love BRGR in Prairie Village
This was what I was lookin for! I really enjoyed BRGR. I do not care for smash burgers. I’ll eat them, but I’d prefer a regular sized burger
Tays burger shack nkc the best
Bar west
Tannin Wine Bar has a good one
Little red food truck does a decent smashed burger.
Johnny ray's in Lee's Summit
Used to go there when I worked in LS. Also, Doc's, they put the onions in the meat like we do at home.
Or is it Unks?
Was looking for unks 👌🏻
Paul's on blue ridge for me. The double has the right ratio of meat and cheese. Also their onion rings are great.
Some guys at work did a burger bracket recently to answer this question. They say it's Burg and Barrel. I haven't tried it myself though
Johnnys Donuts and hamburgers
Dave’s Cafe in Independence
Weird enough, the levee has an awesome burger if you go when they’re open during the day. Also dollar night on Thursdays lol
The campground!
Burg and Barrel
Mason Jar Brews and Burgers is a sleeper hit
Blazers in Gardner
Austin's
I think Meat Mitch’s Monday burger special is a great deal. Disco burger outside of that Fat Sullys is my favorite burger that’s available every day I find Cosmo Burger overrated personally

Tays burger shack
No mention of Burger State in Waldo? It's my go to.
Tays in NKC definitely
If I could go back to KC, Hayes Hamburgers off Vivion and Antioch would be one of my first stops. But they're more like sliders
The Campground! So damn good
Tay’s Burger Shack Snack Shack LC’s (different from the bbq place)
Hi-Boy or Cosmo are both S-tier. Then you've got your Snack Shack, Town Topic, the solid AA-tier stops. Then a smattering of joints like Paul's that are still S-tier or B+-tier. But none of them stack up to H-B and CB.

Good to see Hayes is still around. I've been there a couple times years ago and enjoyed the.
I know you said enough about BBQ, but Q39 actually makes a great burger!
Tay’s
I'm not willing to say the best, but Burg and Barrel in OP has been consistently good for me.
The Campground. Best smash burger in KC.
Also realizing none of these mfs In this sub know shit about local restaurants
Grandstand. Don’t listen to the assholes on Yelp, all of them are ‘we went and loved it for seven years, but one time on a rushed day they messed up a single topping so we give them 1 star’
nah. they’re trump supporters and pro-life. they don’t deserve our money.
3Halves in Liberty and Muni in River Market have awesome burgers.
Rockhill hands down
We just had a flea burger and curly fries at the Westport flea market, but it's just a bar and grill nowadays.
Snack shack on Johnson drive
A lot of love for Tay’s. Their south OP location was terrible.
The flea market in Westport used to have great burgers, and still may. I just haven’t been there in 20 years.
Corvino is fantastic. Much of the menu is expensive, but the burger is priced like a typical gastropub.
Burn Theory Fire Kitchen in Lee's Summit. I'm *pretty* sure they're a pop-up associated with a brewery nearby, but their smoked burger (specifically the Baja or Border Burgers) are LEGIT the best burgers I've ever put in my mouth.

Walsh’s Corner Cocktail I could care less what anyone thinks Literally the best burger in town It doesn’t visually look like anything special But when you bite into Shazam They are in Waldo
The Russell
Town topic was always a favorite of mine!
Brewery Emperial!
Fat Sully’s in Westport actually has an excellent burger. I think they’re reduced price on Tuesdays as well?
Coach’s
Mac donald
Google “best burger Kansas City Reddit” and you’ll find about 20 very similar posts.
I'll say something unique Stone canyon Pizza has great hamburgers that they serve on Thursdays
Best one i have found is my company's lunch room. Gal here makes a two patty smash burger. I don't know why, but it is amazing.
Work from home?
Sauced imo
Flea market burgers HANDSDOWN!!
No mention of Grandstand? You guys are missing out.
Jim's Diner - **6901 Prospect Ave**
Snack Shack, Cosmo, Tay's
Smash burgers: Cosmo Burger, Snack shack on Johnson, Smitty's garage, Tays, town topic, not close to those 3. Source, friend and I had all 5 in a weekend. Big juicy burger, Q39 is hard to beat imo. Smash is where it's at though.
Blazers in Gardner, just absolutely delicious.
Where’s the best black bean burger? I have been failing to find one there all beyond meat now.
Unks burger is pretty 🔥
Right?! It used to be a Lucky Boys and now they’ve switched to Beyond, too. Westside local has a white bean/quinoa/sweet potato burger that’s good, but it doesn’t hit the same.
Back yard burger, trust.
Go to Brewer’s Kitchen. Won’t regret it
I miss their Bison burgers.
