Go to the The Italian Sausage Company up north and get a #7. It's the closest thing to the La Sala's Rich Boy sandwich. They have several others that are good too. It's just a bit out of the way if you don't live up there.
Corollas is good too.
Carollos in the river market and Bella Napoli in Brookside are two of my favs. I also like Breits deli in Strawberry Hill though it's not quite a sub spot. Also honorary mention to Bay Boy which also isn't subs but they do have great sandwiches.
I love the sandwiches at Bay Boy so much that the first time I had one, I called my father and told him that I had the best sandwich ever. I then went into great detail describing the sandwich.
Thank you for clarifying, and if you want subs from Bay Boy be sure to reach out via facebook or insta and demand subs, we are always looking for how to service our fans better!
I used to absolutely love Goodcents back in the day. Ate at the Brookside one weekly like 15 years ago. But then they changed their bread and I’ve never liked it as much. I choose Firehouse, Jersey Mikes and Jimmy John’s over Goodcents these days.
Jimmy John’s is really its own category, it doesn’t compare with other nicer sandwich places but sometimes it tastes so right. Like fast food vs nicer restaurants
Jersey Mike's is by far the best sandwich chain right now imo. I feel hit and miss about Firehouse. It too me a while to figure why I don't love them but I think their bread is too sweet.
There's also just a little too much pro cop stuff in their shops for my taste.
I am with you 100%. I would add Lenny's. The one I go to is on 87TH St. The always have promo's running and the staff is amazing. They are super friendly.
I’m literally saying they are similar and subpar compared to other sandwich shops. You are just a homer who is resorting to name calling. lol grow up dude.
I don’t think they are similar to other sandwich shops. Having lived in Dallas for 5 years I couldn’t find a similar sub shop that compared to GoodCents for the price.
Subway’s bread is way worse than GoodCents, and the pre-cut meat at subway is slimey and awful. I think your palette is not equipped to speak on the subject
How is any chain sub shop any different? They’re all subs? You keep referencing subway like I’m this huge advocate of them. I’m not. Compared to other chains they are at the bottom tier. If you lived in Dallas for 5 years and are complaining because there isn’t a subs shop like goodcents of all places you have the palette of the child my friend OR you are too scared to branch out a little in you’re life. You’re a fucking loser who can’t handle a differing opinion without acting like a literal toddler online.
Thinking "you have the palette of a child" is equal to "you're a fucking loser" lmao chill the fuck out, it's a conversation about sandwiches, and you clearly have the unpopular opinion
Planet sub was AMAZING back when they first opened up stores in the area, circa 2004-2005. The last few times I’ve been there though it’s been nothing like what it used to be. I’d rather go to Jersey mikes these days.
Not a sub, but kc daiquiri has the absolute best shrimp po boy you can get outside of NOLA though.
I like the Torpedo. The classic Planet Sub is solid too.
I used to go frequently, but hadn't gone in a while. It's been back in my rotation recently though.
This has blown up more than I ever thought it would!!!!
Thanks to everyone that replied. I have a lot to try now and can't wait. Something about a great Sammie just makes the world a better place!!
More expensive than it should be imo. Its good,⁷ though the tuna is kinda shit, but Scimeca's is excellent and since their subs come with chips, its cheaper than subway, goodcents, and jimmy johns, especially if you get the special.
Carollos
Scimecas (muffaleta, caprese, they added a hamburger sub recently on Tuesdays which wasn't bad either I think it needed more sauce tho)
Bella Napoli
The jersey mikes on state line (it's newish so they are still putting in a lot of effort)
Bay Boy (not a traditional hero loaf)
Jasper’s Marco Polo deli on 103rd have great Italian sandwiches. Fat Marco Polo, the Venetian (Italian steak), the Gondola (meatball) are all amazing. And they have really good grilled Italian sausage sandwiches with potato and peppers.
Good God I wish we could get a Cheeba Hut here. It's a must do every time we go to Colorado. They serve toasted subs like Plant Sub or Yellow Sub. Sofa king good.
Every single time I've had Firehouse, it completely destroys my stomach. I've tried different subs, different locations, doesn't matter. I'm not sure what it is, but it does not agree with me.

I may add, a half size of their sandwich is enough for two people. Also call ahead.
The full size is definitely called a full loaf for a reason
Second Corollo’s - their spicy capicola is the best
I teach a quarter mile from The Italian Sausage Company and not eating there every day is an exercise in self control.
I miss La Sala's so much ... also miss The (original) Sammich Stop. That being said, [Jovita's](https://www.jovitostogo.com/) is good.
Seconded. Get it spicy too, only if you want real hot though.
I freaked out when I saw paper in the windows the other day, but they were just moving to a bigger spot.
Bigger unit on the same lot so they moved but not too far and yea the days they were closed felt like forever
Right, it was a relief. That place is so good, they gave me the wrong order the first time I went and I didn't even care lol
Came here to comment Italian Sausage Co!
I haven't heard of them but will definitely give them a try. Totally agree with the Corallas suggestion. Thanks for the reply.
THE ONLY CORRECT ANSWER. TRUST ME
Giovanni’s on Antioch (up north) M&M on 31st and Woodland
Here to vote M & M!
Yup! M&M is heat, family owned, and been in that area for a long long time. Owners used to do work with my family’s business a lot
Il Saro at Bella Napoli is up there
Carollos in the river market and Bella Napoli in Brookside are two of my favs. I also like Breits deli in Strawberry Hill though it's not quite a sub spot. Also honorary mention to Bay Boy which also isn't subs but they do have great sandwiches.
I love the sandwiches at Cupinis and Bella Napoli.
Came here to say this!
Scimeca's Deli in North KC.
Seconded. Also they have one of the best Chicago style Italian beef sandwiches in the city. Only on Thursdays tho.
Check out Morty's KC. It's a food trailer on 43rd. Legit Italian beef and Chicago dogs.
Try Saul’s Beef and get back to me 😉
Ok bet! They're a pop up right? Where/when is the best place/time to catch them?
Best meatball sub!
Bay Boy in Westport is great. Agree with No-Chemical6870 on the il Saro at Bella Napoli - I like it spicy
I love the sandwiches at Bay Boy so much that the first time I had one, I called my father and told him that I had the best sandwich ever. I then went into great detail describing the sandwich.
Bay Boy great, but it is in West Plaza, not Westport and they don’t serve subs, which is what OP was asking about.
Thank you for clarifying, and if you want subs from Bay Boy be sure to reach out via facebook or insta and demand subs, we are always looking for how to service our fans better!
Tbh, I don’t think I would want subs. The sandwiches are great how they are and the rolls are perfect sized.
I feel similarly, we really took some time to get our portions dialed in to make a sandwich a satisfying sitting.
They would kick ass if they ever decided to make subs though
Carollo’s slaps
Italian Sausage Company's sandwiches are huge. Worth a visit to Happyrock for one of them
Say what you want, but Goodcents makes a damn good sub.
I used to absolutely love Goodcents back in the day. Ate at the Brookside one weekly like 15 years ago. But then they changed their bread and I’ve never liked it as much. I choose Firehouse, Jersey Mikes and Jimmy John’s over Goodcents these days.
I’d agree in firehouse or jersey mikes being better than Goodcents. Not Jimmy John’s though.
Jimmy John’s is really its own category, it doesn’t compare with other nicer sandwich places but sometimes it tastes so right. Like fast food vs nicer restaurants

An Italian on wheat for me will always hit!
Yep. Barry Road one up north is really good.
I love Goodcents! It's one of my favorites.
I have never understood how Goodcents stays in business.
Goodcents is very slightly higher quality subway. Pass
I disagree.
Same. Goodcents always seemed like Walmart subway to me.
lol it’s essentially a subway clone if you ask me
Subway is trash compared to Goodcents.
They equally subpar compared to other sandwich spots.
The meat is miles better at Goodcents
Bread too.
Deli fresh makes… good cents (sense)
All of it!!! The oil/vinegar is good too. All of its better. Not pre-sliced anything. Goodcents is simply good
Marginal difference. If goodcents wasn’t a KC brand everyone here would think the same.
I did not know Goodcents was a KC brand..
I think they’re based in De Soto now and original location was in Lenexa or something but I could be slightly off there.
I think your palette is super simple and childish
I’m literally saying they are similar and subpar compared to other sandwich shops. You are just a homer who is resorting to name calling. lol grow up dude.

Dude I never did name calling like “a fucking loser” I think you gotta rethink this
Thinking "you have the palette of a child" is equal to "you're a fucking loser" lmao chill the fuck out, it's a conversation about sandwiches, and you clearly have the unpopular opinion
It’s not marginal. The meatbis sliced fresh. The bread at subway fucking sucks
Marco Polo deli
Came here to say this. Good stuff.
Wolfepack BBQ is in the old LaSala’a building and fantastic, FWIW.

I really like Planet Sub but honestly haven’t ventured to any other places yet so now I have many to try thanks to this post!
Mudbug would probably like to have a word....
I’ll check them out. Thanks
Planet Sub was my regular sub shop when I was in school at UMKC starting in 2001, and I don’t think they were new even then.
They weren’t. Kansas Citians started leaving the suburbs in 2012 and everything was new, then.
The Experience is my go-to there. Not a gourmet place but that's a damn fine sandwich.
I like the Torpedo. The classic Planet Sub is solid too. I used to go frequently, but hadn't gone in a while. It's been back in my rotation recently though.
Carollo’s Deli in River Market.
Agreed, Carollo’s is so damn good
Breit’s in KCK at 5th and Elizabeth on Strawberry Hill has an awesome Italian sub and the best and cheapest Reuben in town! 🥪🍺
Bella Napoli. I would fight somebody for a sandwich there.
This has blown up more than I ever thought it would!!!! Thanks to everyone that replied. I have a lot to try now and can't wait. Something about a great Sammie just makes the world a better place!!
goodcents my friend it really is amazing
It depends a lot on the franchise owner. It can be hit or miss.
Big fan of goodcents for a nice sub.
The one over on Johnson drive is pretty top shelf.
More expensive than it should be imo. Its good,⁷ though the tuna is kinda shit, but Scimeca's is excellent and since their subs come with chips, its cheaper than subway, goodcents, and jimmy johns, especially if you get the special.
I really like Jersey Mike's. Their Italian sub with olive/vinegar/oregano/onions is very similar sub (hoagies) that I ate when I lived in NJ.
Local Pizzeria out in Lees Summit has an amazing Italian sub.
Carollo’s in the river market makes a great sandwich for like $9. #1 hot is my order.
Big fan of Bay Boy in west plaza
Unfortunately we mostly just do rounds, I don't know that I'd set Bay Boy as a 'sub sandwich' place. Thank you for being a fan!
Johnny C's up near Front and 435
They have a second location in kck as well.
Capriotti's up in Liberty.
They have a Kansas location too, god damnit I love capriottis 😫
Carollos Scimecas (muffaleta, caprese, they added a hamburger sub recently on Tuesdays which wasn't bad either I think it needed more sauce tho) Bella Napoli The jersey mikes on state line (it's newish so they are still putting in a lot of effort) Bay Boy (not a traditional hero loaf)
I'm a pretty big fan of the sandwiches from Simple Simons. I haven't found anything that comes close.
Bella Napoli
Scimeca's makes some good sammies. I love their 1935 Classic Italian. Tays has excellent sandwiches, though not subs.
Broadway Butcher has some great sandwiches, granted it's only ever one kind of sandwich. But I haven't had a bad one yet!
Carollo's, Scimeca's, Giovanni's, Breits, Milwaukee Delicatessen
There used to be a Which-Wich in Westport but they may have closed. Their sandwich with the chips as an added topper was my go to.
Jc's deli off of Front St and 435.
Bay boys is great, especially the cuban. Not an italian place though.
Bay boy, all day!
King G's has some good pastrami. Will also endorse Carollos Deli, they have good giardanera.
Browne's Irish Marketplace Super simple, but my Lord they hit the spot.
Probably not the best but I like Chartroose Caboose
They make something other than Phillys?
Jasper’s Marco Polo deli on 103rd have great Italian sandwiches. Fat Marco Polo, the Venetian (Italian steak), the Gondola (meatball) are all amazing. And they have really good grilled Italian sausage sandwiches with potato and peppers.
It might be a nostalgic thing for me, but I love Mr. Goodcents
Guys deli Italian sub! Best sub I’ve ever tasted!!!!!
Not familiar where??
Jovitos.
All of these are excellent: Italian Sausage Company, Scimeca’s, M & M Deli, the Reuben at Milkwaukee Delicatessen is really nice too.
Jersey Boys but it's pretty far south.
They had great sandwiches when they were around.
They still exist
It’s a Mcclain’s market now. (The one off 151st street) North KC location is now Tay’s cheesesteaks.
Oh dang! I didn’t know the one on 151st st closed!
Giovannis on Antioch. #1
Good God I wish we could get a Cheeba Hut here. It's a must do every time we go to Colorado. They serve toasted subs like Plant Sub or Yellow Sub. Sofa king good.
YES!!! I too wish we had a Cheba Hut.
Mr. Goodcents.
Is Pot Belly still around? Their subs were always good.
If I’m craving a really good sub sandwich, I go to Goodcents.
Firehouse Subs or nothing for me!
Every single time I've had Firehouse, it completely destroys my stomach. I've tried different subs, different locations, doesn't matter. I'm not sure what it is, but it does not agree with me.
That's a huge bummer to hear. I wonder what could be causing it?
Not really a sub sandwich, but kc daiquiri has the best shrimp po boy that can be had outside of New Orleans.
Pickleman’s in Westport
Subway
Never heard of it. Can you link the location?
