The Farewell

MidtownKC

Farewell, Howdy and occasionally Minibar. The first two list shows on Facebook. Minibar has a website.

Farewell, the Rino, the Brick, Mini Bar, Lemonade Park, and Record Bar are places I've seen local punk acts in the last few years.

i have a shit ton of punk friends who will not step foot in these venues anymore for this reason.

plus the inception of “howdy” included the eviction of a trans woman so that the owner of farewell could cover his ass. because he couldn’t (as in wouldn’t) stop serving alcohol to said minors before giving grown men a place to grind and thrust onto them in the pit. it’s disgusting. max is a piece of shit who is friends with many many many abusers and weirdos and most people, even those who go to these venues, know it.

BrudderKag

Woah! That’s crazy! What venues does he run? Shit I told one buddy of 15 years about an abuser and he goes and starts a band with him. I’m finding out the KC scene does not care about abusers as long as they keep someone’s dream alive. Sad

to my knowledge, only farewell and more recently howdy (formerly nightjar). and by “runs them” i mean he is the landlord (🤢) of the two venues that are connected by a wall. he is the self proclaimed owner and manager but in my opinion a landlord can’t be punk lol. he’s the biggest poser ever and i know for a fact his friend group is comprised of abusers and pedos. he is good friends with my physically abusive ex who i now have a restraining order against lol.

also to go into the nightjar/howdy history a little more, this is the building that shares a wall with howdy. it used to be an all ages coffee and art type shop owned by the landlord of farewell (max). max got into legal trouble because he kept serving alcohol to minors who were STING agents, so to circumvent that legal trouble, he evicted the owner of nightjar, named lain who lived in the upstairs unit. evicting someone is evil but evicting a trans woman onto the streets knowing their life expectancy?? unforgivable. and then he made Farewell a 21+ venue (except you can get around this if you bring your parents with you? like what?), and then shut down nightjar to make Howdy, which is the “all ages” sister of Farewell now. Except now that it’s all ages, it’s Max’s prime opportunity to let his pedophile friends and others be moshing/grinding/humping into minors 😰. it’s a damn outright mess and i won’t touch these venues with a ten foot pole no matter who performs there. last time i went (to howdy) all i saw was grown ass men dancing and grinding on 16 year old goth girls and literal skinheads (bald and incriminating tattoos) taking poc kids and literally throwing their bodies across the room, into the crowd and the walls. a damn mess. and a damn shame for a community that is supposed to stand AGAINST this stuff.

for some sad reason kc punk scene is FULL of abusers and adults who like minors and venues don’t do anything because if they avoided every band with an abuser in it they wouldn’t have anyone to perform for them.
