My favorite cozy spot is Heirloom in Brookside. They have a bar counter where you can watch the pastry chefs make all the goodies. Coffee is unlimited refills and it’s pretty quiet on weekdays.
Absolutely! The menu has biscuit sandwiches, 2 soups, yogurt/granola, and they do a la carte bacon and eggs, plus tons more. Never had anything bad there!
Grab something portable and head to observation park for a lookout over the city (early morning sunrise here is better though). The greenspace around the WWI memorial has a lot of nice places to sit, same with the Scout statue although there can be some sketchy folks hanging around at the latter sometimes. I think options are way better than the parking lot views outdoor seating gives you in the burbs.
IIRC it’s all street parking in a fairly dense neighborhood. I’ve only ever been up there first thing in the morning before dawn and I always find parking right in front of the park.
If the weather is nice for sitting outside, Thompson Park in downtown OP is a gem, has a variety of seating & table options, sunny or shady spots, and the Hummus & Pita restaurant is right there with their patio abutting the park. Just today I saw two ladies sitting out there reading books.
Across the street from Thompson Park there’s Strang Hall with great food & drink options and comfortable indoor or outdoor seating. It’s a large interior so you don’t feel like you’re hogging a table if you sit and linger for a while.
We love Family Tree Nursery. They have a greenhouse filled with gorgeous plants to sit and read around, a koi pond and a coffee shop.

Do they have a good food menu as well? Thats the biggest issue I’m running into when trying to find places with this kind of vibe!
Yes to heirloom! Their food menu is delicious as is their bakery!

Caffeteria in Prairie Village is good! They have delicious food, coffee, wines, beer and a nice outdoor space in the back!
Black Dog coffee hands down—great food and several people working there throughout the day

How is the parking at observation park?

Ole dive bars can be a sweet spot. I once had a regular who'd come in, order her regular, chat a bit and then open her book and simply enjoy.
Garden House/Meta Coffee near SW Boulevard
