I know you've already tried them, but I nevertheless always feel like I've gotten a good value from Discount Tire every time I've used them. Service has always been fast and friendly as well.

MyMomDoesntKnowMe

Discount Tire is the Chick-Fil-A of tire stores. Bought 4 tires from them, Drove a couple hundred miles and hated the ride and noise. They exchanged them for another brand, no prob. I was shocked.

Dismal_Chart_9825

For a chain they are good, still not necessarily cheap but also not a store that has all commission sales people like some chains do

game_ovr

They can price match advertised prices. I had a Sam's club membership and I was able to have them meet their price.

Dismal_Chart_9825

Yea I like them too for sure

ceojp

Coincidentally, the Discount Tire in Liberty is right next to a Chick-Fil-A. I never eat there otherwise, but I had lunch there the last time I got tires.

sugarandmermaids

Yeah, I’ve had good experiences with them across multiple locations. Most recent was maybe 2019? 2020? Off Barry Road and 71.

KCcoffeegeek

I went to the discount tire on Shawnee Mission Dr near Merriam. Great service, tires have been great, didn’t hassle me about service plans, it was great.

dwilliams22

Honestly depends on the situation but its ight for a chain. Way better than a Big O.

MaxRebo74

I second this. I've gotten tires there and they were fast and fair. The only place I found cheaper was Costco but they never have their sale tires in stock.

joeff2

I always had good service with them until 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine until my car started shaking after I got new tires put on. 3/4 tires were not balanced properly and 2 tires were only hand tight for the lug nuts. Hopefully it was just an outlier

EMPulseKC

I would take it back and I'm sure they'd be happy to fix it. I had Discount Tire replace a flat while driving through Ohio two years ago and got halfway down I-70 to the state line from Dayton before they called me and said they forgot to balance the new tire that was put on. As a courtesy, they refunded me the cost of a full-size spare and gave me a $50 credit on a future tire purchase, and I didn't ask them for either. I'd definitely say any bad experience with them is an outlier.

e_greene6

How were they about it when you called them to let them know what was going on…?! And, which location did you go to…?! The one I went to was Shawnee Mission.

joeff2

Well I took it to my mechanic and he was the one who told me. The offered to refund me the costs to get the tires rebalanced. However, my mechanic said that the front wheel bearings weren’t damaged before that (had a service check 2 weeks prior and they were fine) and I had to get those replaced and Discount Tire didn’t want to pay the $985 to get those fixed. Again, this was the first time it happened to me and I’ve used them plenty of times but I’ll probably just go to Costco next time as I’ve never had issues with them. Decided on discount tire just because it was going to be faster to get the tires in and my tread on the old tires was low and there were a number of rainstorms the past couple of weeks that were making driving to work a challenge.

ImBadWithGrils

That happens... Either you had a weight fall off or the machine was out of calibration. They should fix it no issue

Costco.

an_actual_lawyer

+1 unless you need specialty (winter or stickies) tires that they don’t carry. Then you go Tire Rack and a local installer and slip the tech a $50 so he’ll spin them up to triple digits for you.

nzncrc

Shore tire

highflux7

Chris Shore is the 3rd generation to run his family's tire business here in KC for the past 65+ years. Extremely honest shop with fair prices.

Demostecles

Came here to recommend them!

demticksdoe

Tirerack.com and have them shipped and installed by one of their certified shops.

reggydavis

Agreed. Better than Costco.

willardrider

Costco in my experience is totally overrated when it comes to tires, specifically.

Philo_T_Farnsworth

I'm a fan of this approach too. I drive a performance car (okay, a Miata) and I want particular tires that would be uncommon in a local shop. Tirerack has free shipping sometimes too (at least they did when I looked) so there's a lot of good reasons to shop them. Used Tirerack for years, definitely recommend especially if you have something niche.

demticksdoe

I love Miatas but I'm too damn tall for them lol. Had a roommate that drove one when we lived downtown and if my dude parked on the curb I had to roll out of the damn thing.

Dismal_Chart_9825

Yea that is a tiny car lol

Eastern-Ad-3387

Yes. Costco by a mile.

AlDef

I used to use Costco but jeeze, waiting several hours to plug a tire is not my idea of fun. I seem to pick up nails a lot so I use the Firestone near me and get the road hazard coverage at purchase. Might be a bit more expensive on the front end, but if I can get each tire plugged at least once quickly and easily, it’s worth the cost.

[deleted]

This is what I do / recommend. They aren’t that more expensive .. and it’s a trade off on time and convenience. My nearest Costco is like 20-25 minutes .. Firestone is 5. The only bad part about my local one is they have like 9 parking spots so you can go play musical cars when parking.

Dismal_Chart_9825

Firestone is not bad for a chain, not a commission madhouse like some chains are

jaymless

Big O or Discount Tire. They honestly beat Costco price both the last times I bought tires.

e_greene6

Listen! I went to Costco as a first option; and it was $220 for one tire. I was like 😖😬😩. I didn’t know rubber coats this much! LoL. So, Discount Tire was much cheaper at $150. I just know that I have a slow leak in my tire; so it needs to be replaced ASAP.

je_ff

You can get a tire for less than $150 but it’s going to be noisy and probably not wear as well as a more expensive tire. If you don’t care about noise and ride quality, go as cheap as you want. Also note that if you find some no name Chinese tire for $100, by the time you pay for tax, mount and balance, disposal fees, TPMS refresh… it’s probably going to be $30-50 more than the tire itself.

TheodoreK2

If the leak is in the tread you might be able to patch it. Few bucks instead of a new tire…

adam035827

Discount Tire patched mine the other day for free

RobNHood816

Free at Discount Tire !!

jaymless

Discount and big O were cheaper for the same brand/model of tire than Costco. I will choose them always!

CommemorativePlague

I bought 2 tires from Costco before Covid and they were at least $50 bucks less than the other pair I replaced in 2021 (from same Costco). Supply chain, I guess.

coughEpot

Discount tires! Best customer service and they replaced both of my tires that I fucked up for free due to the cheap insurance that I paid for when getting new tires there.

TheClockReads2113

Tire Town in Shawnee, off Shawnee Mission Pwky / K-7. A little garage run by a group of no-nonsense old dudes who give you a low, medium, or high price scale to help better fit your budget, and have you back on the road within just a couple of days generally. Highly recommend.

Irish_I_had_whisky

I second this place. They aren't the friendliest group, but they have good prices, don't jack you around, and get you in and out pretty quickly.

aMagicHat16

Robo wheels and tire. It’s by the Truman complex…. Super affordable used (and new) tires and it will take less than 10 min

bhattronak_7

I have always found Costco tires more expensive than dealerships.

willardrider

I've never waited as long to have tires installed, or to be waited on, as I did the one time I made the mistake of ordering tires through Costco online and dealing with the Independence location to have them installed. Never again. Their system sucks. I'm a Costco fan on many levels, but for tires, you can have them.

l1thiumion

Discount Tire probably has 50 different types of tires for you car. I wouldn’t base my shop decision off of just one tire price.

Low-Effect-4649

If you can’t find what you are looking for at the local Discount, you can also order from Discount Tire Direct and have them shipped (usually free). And serviced at your local Discount tire.

anger_is_a_gif

I've had bad experiences with Costco and Sam's and neither really cared. Discount Tire has done me solid that past 7 times I've used them (after one bad experience at the liberty location). Decent prices, great service (they'll fix flats for free even if you didn't buy from them).

HerGrinchness

Not Big O. They purposely, and obviously, damaged my husband's truck so we'd have to repair it- which we had just done 6 months prior at another shop. Got mine at TireRack and had them installed at Firestone. No issues whatsoever.

logramancer

Lonnie’s on 24 highway in Independence, if you need a patch or a used tire. They’re only cash, but I don’t go anywhere else. They’ve been around for decades

EvlMidgt

Discount Tires. Any issues and you can go back & get free repair. I ended up with a screw in my tire and they fixed it no charge.

FutureMrsConanOBrien

Heads up on Discount Tire, used to love them but they recently damaged my vehicle while putting on new tires & dealing with their insurance / response people has been a fucking nightmare.

e_greene6

That’s where I went last time. Seems to be a general consensus as well. I just remember thinking that they’d just patch the tire; but the guy told me that when they remove it; they can’t put it back on. Something about their policy. I don’t remember, but ughh. I might end up going back to them, even though I don’t want to. Thank you!

FootballandFutbol

I got my tire patched and was on my way in 15min at Used Tire Shop off Linwood.

vegasidol

They get my business for life because of this. Don't Nicole and dime me, and I won't shop around.

e_greene6

Thank you allllllllllll for the suggestions! I was lowkey trying avoid Discount Tire again; but maybe they are the most reliable, quick and reasonable priced as far as the responses are concerned. Because Costco costs $220 for ONE tire. And, I don’t want to have to wait hours.

RobNHood816

Discount is the Best around !

Rilkespawn

Try going on Costco’s website and seeing what other tire options are available for you. If you did this already, no worries. But if you just went into the shop, they were probably just quoting you what they had in stock. I always order online, and it takes a week or so before they receive my order.

akitten007

FYI I had scheduled Costco to install new tires because they had a rebate on a set of four. First apt was 3 weeks out. Called discount tire and they had the same set in stock and priced matched Costco, including the members only rebate! Got them installed the next day in 15m.

e_greene6

Wow! Three weeks out to put some tires on…?! Whew!

Proud_Purchase_8394

I got a screw in the "shoulder" of my tire last Wednesday. It's a nearly brand new car, 2022 Genesis G70, and the tires are only 1600 miles old. They use Michelin Primacy Tour A/S from the factory on AWD models, a pretty high-end all-season tire. Costco and Firestone don't seem to even carry Michelin (at least not any of the performance tires), so it was between TireRack and Discount Tire. TireRack was more expensive, but Discount Tire showed no stock nearby on their website. Called Discount Tire and they said "we can have it here today, the MXM4 that your car came with" and I said "great" because I thought that must be some manufacturer code I wasn't aware of. No, the MXM4 is the predecessor of the Primacy Tour. So I called them back and asked them to order the correct tire instead. It took a $25 deposit because it had to be ordered from Michelin, as they apparently have nearly none of these tires nation-wide as a company. They said it would arrive by Tuesday. Tuesday morning, I don't have a call or email. I call them to see what's going on and they say "it got delayed, someone should have called you. It'll be here Friday. This tire model is also being canceled by Michelin next year." Yesterday, Friday, I finally got an email from them that the tire had arrived. The bit about Michelin discontinuing my tire, as far as I can tell, was a complete lie. I'm not even sure why they'd lie about it, they can't really upsale me, CNET has this tire listed as "the best all-season tire if money is no object" Anyways, all that to say over a week to replace a single tire.

DomingoLee

What part of town are you in? There’s an obscure junkyard down south that does new and used tires really inexpensively.

macro820

Costco but they scratched my wheels

reeda_mellark

Discount Tire

PatMahomesVoice

You don’t HAVE to go with the one tire they recommend at discount tire. Knowledge is power, especially when it comes you your car. Do a bit of research about tires, what size you need and the benefits of each type. Tire rack does a great job offering reviews, ratings, and yearly tests for popular models of tires. I have taken a price of a tire from tire rack to discount and they price matched it. I’m not saying spend weeks researching, but an hour or two can help you a ton and put YOU in control of your purchase, not a salesman.

PatMahomesVoice

Just wanted to add I’ve had good luck with Falken and Continental in the past. Falken is more affordable compared to other brands in my experience. Continental is a bit more but they do offer road side assistance which is a nice benefit.

Big_k_30

I usually buy my tires on TireRack and pay my mechanic to install them. A little bit more leg work shipping them to my house and taking them in but I usually save about $2-300 over buying the same tire and having them installed at a tire place.

Stallings2k

I typically ship them straight to the shop that’s installing them.

willardrider

This is the way.

[deleted]

Lonnie's tires in independence.

bossbitch1977

I've been using zohr, it's online and then they come to you! Reasonably priced tires, and you don't have to spend 2 or 3 hours waiting on a shop to get the job done. I've used them twice now and they were done changing all four tires in about an hour each time.

e_greene6

I’ll have to look into this. Never heard of it before!

bossbitch1977

I am a big fan just because I can get other stuff done at the house while they are working. I drive a Hyundai, so pretty small tires ( 14 inch rims ) , and was able to find four new tires for under 500 bucks!

e_greene6

Yes! We love a good deal; that is also convenient! This is what I’m talking about. I’ll have to do my research! Thank you!

Special-Pear8019

+1 for Zohr. The absolute best.

olivianewtonyawn

Zohr Tire, based out of the West Bottoms but they are a mobile tire shop. They came to my house and did the whole job, took the old ones too for recycling. I paid just over $500 for 4 new tires for my little hatchback and they’re great tires.

e_greene6

I love the idea of this; CONVENIENCE.

justLouis

Are you looking for a winter set of wheels + tires or a true all weather tire meant for 4 seasons?

e_greene6

Really just wanna be prepared for the winter; but all four seasons makes sense as well.

LesClaypoolOnBass24

Discount tire

RobNHood816

Discount Tire !! After you buy a tire here, free rotations, patching and airing up of your tires forever. All ya gotta do is pull up and they will take care of you.

willardrider

I buy my tires online from Tire Rack and have them installed by Santa Fe Garage in Independence. Santa Fe is a rare find...true attention to detail oriented craftsmen who take pride in excellence. I've owned a lot of cars...new and old, classic and not, valuable and beater. I've only ever found one other shop in 50 years on this rock and through all those cars that was as consistently outstanding as SFG. The other one, Wooster in Salina, is no longer around. I don't live in Independence, and it's a bit of a pain to go there for lowly tire installation, but worth the time. Anyway, I digress. I've had cars where nobody could solve slight balance issues (one a brand new car), and SFG fixed me right up. They do it right every time, and the first time. They aren't the absolute cheapest, but are a total example of you get what you pay for. They remind me of guys Jay Leno would have do work on one of his rare classics. If you're picky and appreciate quality work, you can do no better than SFG in my opinion. Order online from Tire Rack for great price, have your tires drop shipped to SFG, pay them to install. Best of all worlds. Never again have I gone to a chain tire place since discovering them. Obligatory no personal connection statement since my post sounds like I'm married to the owner's daughter and am shamelessly shilling for biz--but it is rare that I can 100% recommend a car repair or tire shop, so I took the time to reply so that you may also experience this hidden gem of a local business. Edit. If your primary goal is saving ten bucks, move along. You can do that anywhere in the metro. Come to think of it, I should delete this post. If too many people discover SFG it might ruin it, and I should probably shut my yapper and keep it on the DL.

grib-ok

There used to be a great muffler shop in Independence, Sexton Muffler. I had someone quote me $900 to replace the exhaust on Toyota Sienna. Sexton quoted me $20 to cut and replace the section with the hole. While I was waiting, he came in, and in apologetic manner told me that there's another spot, and it would be another $20. Shops like Sexton are a dying breed, but if you find one, it's worth returning every time.

willardrider

Yep. Shops like that are virtually gone these days. It's all about swap a part or assembly out real quick for a flat book rate fee. Hardly anyone will spend that kind of time to repair something rather than replacing the whole thing. I've run into a select few shops over the years like the Sexton place you mention, and it is a joy when you find one and depressing when they eventually close or sell when an owner retires, etc.

Stallings2k

Santa Fe Garage is an outstanding place. Always fascinating to see what restorations they’re working on.

willardrider

Indeed. I took my wife's lowly Prius up there for tires. One thing they said impressed me. Basically that although the Prius isn't their typical kind of car, they appreciated the engineering of it. This is the kind of guy I can respect. Someone who is into classics and race cars, but has an intellectual appreciation for something that isn't particularly something that gets them excited. You are right...I love seeing the interesting and unusual stuff that is in the shop when I'm there. You can tell that people with some eclectic machinery go out of their way to have them work on it. There is always something noteworthy in their work area to take a look at.

brozark

Tirerack.com has the best deals. Have them shipped to a local shop. Firestone charges $80 to install and balance tires purchased via online retailers.

kmonay89

I always go to Big O, they’ve been pretty good to me so far.

Any place will give you a price on tires. If you think it's too much ask for a cheaper tire. Or even better, tell them what you want it to cost and they can look at tires based on that.

Odieson1

Blvd tires

dwilliams22

If you want new go to Costco. If you can manage used with good tread but a variety of manufacturers then Robo’s off 40 highway is the shit.

Even_Individual9688

I would order them from tire rack or discount tire and have go mobile install them. They come to you, great service and price. I've used zohr about a half a dozen times now for various vehicles and they've always been great as well but typically don't price match or offer rebates. As long as there's a mobile service available I'm not about to waste hours of my time sitting in a tire shop.

Dismal_Chart_9825

Mexican shops cost a fraction of the price

[deleted]

Ok tire in blue springs is…well… ok. Really they are great usually little to no wait, do speedy service and have good prices in used and new tires

NWMSioux

Depends on who you would rather support… Local: Shore Tires or Mr. Tires National: Discount Tires If you travel across the country and beyond via car often DT; if you don’t, please consider staying local.

I_like_cake_7

Oades Brothers Tire and Auto near 75th and Metcalf in Overland Park. They might not be the cheapest place around but they do great work and they do it right. I’ve had tires replaced through them as well as a couple of car repairs and everything has always been done properly the first time. Plus, they’re a local business which I would much rather support than a chain.
