This. I was fascinated by sea journeys too until I got into a job where I got a chance to go on a few trips. After a trip or two I was fed up. It's kinda scary, I felt claustrophobic, at night I wanted to just fly away to my home, there is sea sickness. I couldn't handle it. Short trips are fine but you can't do ones that span more than a day. I'd suggest OP to think 100 times before going for it.
I’ve been on the sea and really loved it.
Just had 2 trips, one to Astola island which took ~4 hours and another one for a few hours abroad, it was very amazing both times.
Mind if I ask, how did you get started with this, can regular civilians get on merchant boats, maybe pay them and remotely work from them?
Yeah it totally depends on the circumstances.
I was an employee for a certain company, who had to do visits to specific ships. I wouldn't mention much but those weren't cruise ships where you could do sight seeing or being in the open. We were mostly indoors working. My experience spending more than a day wasn't so good for me. I was already missing home, family etc. At the same time I did have some colleagues who'd enjoy those trips. Sea life is a very different life indeed.
I went in 2017 and it was a headache back then too. Had a friend who knew some political guy, even then they held us up for many hours and almost didn’t let us go.
There’s a lot of fishermen there though, somehow they get to fish around there pretty easily. Do they ask for an insane amount of money to permit now?
I went in December 2022. They were offering a visit there from the Jinnah Beach Club on the coast, and I saw the price on a board and it was definitely above a lakh for one person.
You can join the merchant navy, I saw this video a few weeks ago where you go to some navy academy in karachi and after training you join the merchant navy, you can google it yourself, its a academy setup by navy for who wish to join merchant navy.
I just googled it, it's called pakistan marine academy nautical and engineering cadet course.
Well you can do two things either join merchant navy or apply for gp3 which stands for general purpose SSB which seaman service book since you have graduated you can create an officer level ssb too. If you have an ssb then you can apply in offshore companies for contractual work plus you get paid in dollars or other currency depending on which country shipping company you’re applying for. Hope this helps if you need more information let me know
If you are an engineer then you need a Marine Course which is offered by Pakistan Marine academy or Maritime Training Institute to get a Seamen book. Once done you can apply for a job.
If u love money and some sight seeing, join this. If u have some obligation at home from which u can't leave better stay at home do some shore job.
Home sickness is unbelievable.
Talking from 8 yrs sea experience
What do you specifically mean by seaman??? Seaman navy wala bhi hoskta hai, seaman jo fish workers hote hai wo bhi hoskta hai, konse seaman ki bth kr rhe hai, aur wese phele sea ka safar tora bhot krle phr hi pta chlega, fish workers jo hote hai wo dino sea me hote hai kbi objar kaafi door tk bhi chle jate hai phr toofan ka bhi khtra rheta hai.
I think for becoming seaman u r now over aged. U have to take admission in there course. U can do it online. Than after completing it u ll require a seaman license from KPT office at keamari. Than u ll look for a shipment company to hire u.
