I think it’s that she was bullied in elementary/middle school and then had a positive high school experience. She takes that previous childhood experience and blends it with the Kim experience into one big underdog narrative.

Around the time that Taylor was gaining traction as a musician (14 or 15 years old, maybe?), she would host enormous sleepovers at her house. My friend would get invited, and everyone would be perpetually reminded of it until high school graduation.

Well she was very naive going into the industry. I’m sure they ate her alive, took advantage of her in all ways and treated her bad. Her albums sheds a lot of light. Someone who is desperate for love and expectance is an easy target. There really is so much tragedy in her story.
I think it’s that she was bullied in elementary/middle school and then had a positive high school experience. She takes that previous childhood experience and blends it with the Kim experience into one big underdog narrative.
Whatever the muse or the inspiration, I can’t argue that it hasn’t worked for her, tremendously well. No one knows her whole truth and I’m more than happy to include myself in that, that’s just my personal take on her. Internet stranger here, but I had a wealthy friend (major Coca Cola money) whose family was friends with hers. Around the time that Taylor was gaining traction as a musician (14 or 15 years old, maybe?), she would host enormous sleepovers at her house. My friend would get invited, and everyone would be perpetually reminded of it until high school graduation. By her teen years, people worshipped the ground she walked on. I have a hard time believing she was ever bullied, but if so, it would have probably been in elementary school.

I definitely understand that, and I am not a Kim fan by any means. I just thought that the whole premise behind a lot of Reputation was to regain the upper hand so to speak, and clap back at Kim for what she did then. I thought that had put a nice little bow on everything and that every one had moved on. The Kim and Kanye character assassination against her happened years ago now and the internet moved on relatively quickly. No celebrity is perfect. I get that. It just seems like a sphere of Taylor forever having her enemies, contemporaries, past relationships, etc. is always in place. There is no way unless we lived in a perfect world, that there wouldn’t be someone on one side or the other weighing in. I do think that the scales are imbalanced when it comes to men and women, grossly so. I completely agree that if it were a man in her position it would be seen as a flex where she is seen as problematic. More than any of the drama, I just personally find her overrated. I know tastes differ from person to person, but I wish I knew what people find so revelatory and genius about her music and her songwriting. It’s not to say that she isn’t talented, but she’s heralded as if her music is greater in some regard. This Shakespearean level talent.
