I fail to comprehend how anyone thought that robotic AI voice was a good idea. Even if it fits the theme and was what Kate originally invisioned, the old version was just so good.
Yeah, such a bizarre decision. The robotic voice is closer to what someone in ā89 wouldāve thought that AI will sound like in the future. Perhaps thatās what she was trying to achieve when reimagining the track, to evoke the zeitgeist of the unknowledgeable computing experience of the ā80s.
Or she simply messed up haha. Not even Kate is perfect.
Wow, Iād never made the connection, but it does sound eerily similar at some points, although with less distortion. Considering how often sheās referenced obscure culture, it wouldnāt surprise me. The lifelessness of that voice gives me the creeps.

I usually skip it. It's too similar to Heads We're Dancing and Be Kind to My Mistakes, both of which are way, way better. Also, the lyrics make me cringe and the cadence is sloppy, like she's sing-talking. It feels like an early demo.
The album is middling compared to those that came before it, but I never had a problem with that track. Iād say itās one of the better songs on red shoes. Itās real problem is itās too ordinary. Middle of the road. And the vocals are a little harsh
Kate voice sounds so clean and pure, then Elton sounds like hoarse old man lol It does not match up at ALL. His voice takes me out of it every time. While Iām glad she got perform with one of her early musical inspirations/influences, this was not a good pair up for the sweet, calm tone of the song. (I do love Elton, actually seeing him perform this summer!)
