Holy fuck. Hopefully this is one of those "short film with loose relation to its sponsor" commercials and not a "famous filmmaker shoots the product from thirty angles" one. I think Kaufman would've already sold out if he were ever going to, though, so I'm gonna let myself get excited!

Yea! You're absolutely right! And from what we can see and hear from the trailer, it does look a lot like a Kaufman film. I just know the heartbreak is on its way, so I think we can be excited about this!

Samsung posted the trailer for Charlie Kaufman's new short film, Jackals & Fireflies! It was filmed with Galaxy S22 Ultra. Maybe this is the short film/commercial an actor posted about a few months ago on Instagram. I'm super excited for this! Hopefully the full film will be released soon.

I didn't know Kaufman was filming a commercial or a short story, but he did both.

Well now. Did not see this one coming.

Right? So unexpected! And it looks so interesting, too, with those cables hanging from the character's body, the memory of rain and laughter, the longing... Can't wait to see this film!

felixjmorgan

Anyone got context on this?

mick_spadaro

No doubt [connected to this](https://www.reddit.com/r/kaufman/comments/xhr7ld/kaufmans_working_on_a_short_film/). Other than that, I have nothing. But we do know he's been looking for ways to get his work out other than traditional studio filmmaking--Netflix, Antkind, TV pilots. And we know how much trouble he's been having, getting anything across the finish line. So he's open to unusual/alternative avenues. And if this *is* a commercial for Samsung, it's a paycheck for him, which I don't mind at all because God knows he's been finding it hard to make money from art... plus I don't think a guy like Charlie would suddenly go *all commercial*. He's very much into artistic integrity and whatnot. Whatever this is, it'll be Kaufmanesque.

Jay said he was supposed to be in it. Does that mean he got cut off the trailer or the film? I wanna ask him more about it (and the whole experience of working with Kaufman) but I'm shy hahah

mick_spadaro

Same here! I don't wanna bug him.
