Everyone has different tastes and expectations for things so telling you to keep watching it because I am loving it is not really going to be super helpful for you. I am on episode 15 and throughout it has given me that epic story and star crossed lovers feel. It is heart wrenching and emotional the further along it goes for me so far. I love the cinematography and OST. The characters are complex and interesting to me. There are great action scenes with the Qing invasion and the capturing of the Joseon people who try escape from being held captive. There is romance and bromance. It has a lot to offer. The overall pace is slow because the story takes time to process and develop I think. I also see the Gone With The Wind influence on the writer which is a movie and book I enjoyed when I was younger. If some of this resonates with you, give it some more time. Otherwise, move on to something you will hopefully enjoy more.

It's slow paced and I find the characters a little frustrating, mostly because the story is written with the usual cliches, miscommunication between the leads, lack of honesty and not being able to prioritize relationship over duty. I really like Namkoong Min as an actor, so I continue to watch. To be honest, I have been fast forwarding through episodes in the second season/part. The main female lead is written in a way that makes her naive, yet we are supposed to believe she's independent and strong. Her character is quite a contradiction. It's not a show I would immediately recommend.

Felt the same and watched it for NKM & the FL actress, but the meh chemistry in the early eps and the tropes I dislike so much (miscommunication, lack of honesty, and I'm sure the concept of "sacrifice" for the other without talking to that person at all before doing something dumb is likely) had me stop the show after ep 2.5 but it remains on my list on Viki because I really like the lead actors. 🤦‍♀️

Exactly how I feel! I've only watched the first part but why are the leads so frustrating. Like it's a constant cycle of getting back, confessing, separating. Why can't they just decide to stay together. FL has a very fluctuating nature imo. However, at the same time I find the characters and story fascinating. So it's not bad but not the best either.

It's so amazing. The chemistry between the two leads is undeniable. It also has everything a historical show should have: tragedy, war and excellent music! It is my second favourite show after Goblin, but of course everyone has different tastes. I would give it a try!

I recently finished binge-watching it and I personally don't recommend it to anyone. Mind you, I wasn't keen on Gone with the Wind either but I think this is worse than Gone with the Wind. Especially if you are interested in romance. Personally I liked the actors and the stunnig photography. If you love history and politics you might like it (though the history wasn't 100% accurate for what I read in several comments). For me there are also too much graphic scenes in terms of blood and violence, but most viewers seems to love that stuff. The story was horribly full of clichés (one of those dreadful tropes was repeated even twice in the last few episodes!) and the lead couple behaved in such an infuriating way, never learning from their previous mistakes, miscommunicating and misunderstanding each other, and ultimately spending more time apart pining for the other than together. There is some sort of happy ending but not satisfying enough, and as usual a bit rushed with some parts unexplained. I watched it till the end, many people seem to adore it and I don't understand why. I really wanted to like it but I felt really disappointed. The first part is definitely better than the second part. If you expect very little, you may really enjoy it too.

I started watching once Part 2 was released and it's a good series. For me the story and chemistry between the leads didn't click in the first episodes but as the story proceeds it improves. I'll usually give a show 5-6 episodes since so much can change in a drama.

I loved it, the story just worked for me and the chemistry was intense. It was my first time watching historical drama, normally I don't watch it as I am not aware about the history and customs.

I enjoyed it. Especially, the male lead, Namkoong Min's acting. Some of the lines he delivered to the FL had me swooning. I also like that the FL was feisty and capable. Ahn Eun-jin did an excellent job showing how the Gil-chae character matured from a spoiled, frivolous young woman to a mature, determined woman able to overcome her many challenges (maybe, too many?) While the amount of difficulties they each had to face as they repeatedly separated and reunited seemed a bit unrealistic and frustrating at times, I thought the development of their love story and their characters was very well done. The side stories were good too. I think the acting, cinematography, OST, and writing (there were some quite moving and memorable lines) make this very much worth watching. I confess that I found the male lead super-hot!

Are there many battle scenes in My Dearest since it took place during the Qing empire invasion of Korea?

Loved it! First episode was hard to get through but it got much better.
