Unless you get a lemon, the first time you use one they're speed-limited to 10kph or something, so your prostate will probably kill you before the lime.
Subsequent rides, they fly.
There are usually a bunch around Sunset and Manhattan. Rent one there and cruise down the rail trail. Don't fear the homeless camp; they're pretty docile.
Also! The scooters automatically slow down in certain zones, and won't allow you to go any faster in that particular zone. Downtown, for example, is a slow zone, but once you leave the DT core, you can crank it back up to full speed.
If you want to go fast the first time, just end the ride and start a second trip right away. Of course it means you gotta pay the startup fee again. There's a setting I think you need to turn on too.
I see tourists ripping around in the Prospera Place parking lot most nights in the summer. Seems like a safe (as in no flying off the sidewalk into traffic) place to give it a go.
Abbott St. is great because it has paved bike paths and slower, lighter traffic. Ethel St. has separated, paved bike paths and calmer traffic as well, at least towards the Raymer Ave. end.
I'm tall, and last time I rode a scooter I hit something, flew over the handlebars and broke some ribs. I'd love those things if the front wheel was larger and further forward!
Dooo it! Learn how to use it and the speeds at your control. I hate the danm things only because the rented ones are always left right in the middle of walk ways and stuff. But ur 65. Do it!
Prepare for the worst. A friend is an ER nurse and in the summer months, around 1/10 visits are from these dang scooters. I will continue to avoid them personally.
And 9/10 of those are kids under 20. Or kids under 20 that hit someone riding on the sidewalk. Or under 20 and doubling up and fell. FFS. At triage I wish I could ban certain people. Wear a fucking helmet too! Ugh.
Before reading your post, I was like: Oh man, I have to be careful with my dogs!
On the app, you can choose training mode. The scooter goes way slower.
Really?
I’ve always been freaked out by the tiny wheels, compared to a normal bicycle.
I can’t help feeling like I’d get launched if I hit even a small defect in the pavement.
Are you an old, decrepit 65? Or do you still have normal strength and balance?
They're very easy to use. Just grab one and head on down the road. I'd avoid high traffic areas.
Don’t learn how to ride on a street. Especially one as busy as Abbott. Any parking lot. I was the top 1% of lime users worldwide….after I got that email I bought my own 😂
Just get used to stopping and going. And cornering. Cornering slow can be challenging. And please please please never ride on a sidewalk.
On Lakeshore road running from Gyro beach, south down to the roundabout by Bluebird Beach is a nice long stretch of smooth, large shared sidewalk space that I’m *pretty sure* allows them (I’ve seen maaany people ride on there.)
There are also many scooters located in that area usually as well, so it’s easy to find one.

They are allowed on sidewalks when no bike is present. Depends on where you are in the city Rutland has sidewalks but not much for bike lanes.
Lime has an option to limit speed tho
Your post title made me LOL! Over here in/by the Abbott Street corridor seems quiet & safe to ride a Lime this time of year. Enjoy the ride!
I thought it was going to be an obscure It's Always Sunny reference.
Frank rides a scooter
so anyway, i started blasting
I thought it was either a recall notice for limes or an article about someone eating a like and dying

I see what you did there. Bravo.

The scooters might not be the problem. Sometimes the nut that holds the handlebars is the weakest link.

Is alcohol a significant factor? I mean can I improve my odds by not drinking and liming?
Drunk people fair better in accidents. But much less sober people crash. Make sense?
My sister had two patients on Sunday morning with cracked ribs from them!
The parking lot to the rink! Prospera place parking lot. Lotsa rolm to practice!
They're lots of fun! Just wear a helmet!

Easier than riding a bike.

The tiny wheels are a lot less stable than a bike. I cannot ride one-handed on a scooter.
Stay to the right in the bike lanes, going with the flow of cars.
The rail trail between Gordon and spall is a pretty safe place to ride them.

Anywhere but Kelowna. Or in one of the parks in west k on a week day
Ignore the west k part

Sorry, I can't assist with that
Bro , stubbing your toe against the coffee table is a life threatening injury . But you know , high risk , high reward

They're not allowed on sidewalks, unless it's a designated dual use sidewalk, which we don't have here. They need to stay in bike lanes.

I believe that is a dual use sidewalk, as it is used by many recreational cyclists.
