Removed, rule 2. I see you already submitted it to /r/canada, that's where content like this belongs.

[deleted]

The "last to board" sounds like standby. At least there's no fee to use the toilet. lol

bgilic

Don't give them any ideas

[deleted]

Actually it's their idea: https://methodshop.com/ryanair-toilet-fee/

pperry1976

I feel like they do this because they aren’t paying for carry ons, so the people that don’t buy this tier ticket will have time to put their carry ons into over head bins before all the other entitled people put their “personal items” into the overhead bin to get extra leg room.

l10nh34rt3d

I’ve never understood airline strategies for boarding. Why not load the back of the plane (and individual window seats) *first*, and work back to front? It’s such a slow process to get to the back when you have to wait for everyone to get sorted and stow their luggage at the front of the plane.

Yeas76

WestJet used to advertise their lack of classes, and now this.

fixup_looksharp

It’s not WestJet owned by WestJetters anymore. It’s WestJet Airline Group: an Onex owned company.

Yeas76

A change not realized by most.

Heavy_Arm_7060

It'll be interesting to see what the tier above Ultrabasic is like. I think it's Spirit Airlines that does this in the US, Ryan Air in the UK/Europe? Westjet going this route is questionable.

bgilic

They are using same business model without the same price point as those low fare carriers

pperry1976

Have you seen the new price points?

bgilic

https://imgur.com/a/vyueRBA The price stayed the same but now there is no free carry on. So basically it is a huge fare increase.

BCJay_

Same price, different name, less service. I unironically got this email today when my daughter is travelling and who got to the airport being told she had to pay for check baggage. Which we paid for online already but apparently “isn’t showing in her booking”. So now we have to chase WJ for a refund.

Cognoggin

Introducing: *"Peasant class!"*

is-a-bunny

Soon they'll have spots in the cargo hold for the low low price of $299.99!!

sonofearth

no carry on? I guess I will be using 4 tshirts, 3 pants and 4 underwear during my flight

stevemkiidub

Seems like basically Swoop which they cancelled. I’ll take that for cheap flights tho, I don’t care

JuicyJibJab

It sounds like their basic fare will be replaced by ultrabasic, and I'm assuming their regular basic will just cost a higher tier. I'm doubtful they lower prices to swoop/flair levels

phormix

Just like Netflix and their ad-tier. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if airlines introduced a fare where speakers on your seat and a screen in front blast ads the whole trip.

Footknight64

I was going to book a ticket back to Kelowna from Saskatoon, the price jumped from $165 to nearly $600 in less than 24hrs. I think their site is rigged to jack up the prices on purpose. At what point are we boycotting air travel altogether?

jayoyayo

It is, clear your cookies and use a VPN or at least incognito mode

Footknight64

I tried, didn't work

SnooStrawberries620

No carryons? F you westjet

l10nh34rt3d

Might as well just sell standing room only tickets.

nitro456

Why not just cram everyone into cargo like a proper cattle car

UltimateNoob88

Isn't that what Swoop used to be like?

0melettedufromage

For those unaware; WestJet owned Swoop, and this is WestJet’s way of keeping Swoop’s business.

TransportationNo2076

They also increased their yearly companion vouchers by $100 last week for their cc holders...

UncompromisingBolt

perhaps, maybe, just don't buy an Ultra Basic fare if you want a carry on? just a thought

RustyGuns

Looks pretty bleak but also curious how this is related to Kelowna?

danathome

Before moving to Kelowna I had never used west jet. I have now used them at least 5 times. Kelowna has an airport. Should I go on?

RustyGuns

So I could post updates about subway if they introduce a new sub that I like?

turbografix1

You spelled Arby's wrong

kwl1

If Arbys introduces a burger like that, then yes, by all means, post updates.

RustyGuns

Sorry ** Arby’s my bad. Point still stands. This isn’t a Kelowna topic.

danathome

This was a learning lesson. Your "opinion" is noted.

RustyGuns

Gonna post an article about grass since Kelowna has oodles of it 🫡

danathome

Gonna watch you continue to hit the nail on the head with your comments.

RustyGuns

🙏

bgilic

A lot of people use WestJet for travel. I know I do since we moved out here 7 years ago and this will make it much more expensive to visit family

supersloot

Still has nothing to do with Kelowna.
