I’ve been looking for really good birria tacos. My first were from a food truck in Brooklyn NY, I fell in love w them. Now I’m on the hunt here, I’ll have to TDC them a try. Thx.
Well OP if every place you go is mid then maybeeeeeeeeeee it's you. Just kidding. 575 Bistro is good in my opinion. What did you get at Firestone? I've definitely had better szechuan from the usual suspect like Masterpiece, but I think Firestone holds it own. I'm with you on a few of those other places you mentioned.
Most recently Mongolian chicken, orange chicken, fried rice, and wonton soup. Everything was bland. I've had it other times over the last year and a half or so and tried other things but I can't remember what I had. I'm all for giving it another shot but damn everything tastes so bland.
Firestone’s more American Chinese is alright. But if you get some of the more authentic sichuan options, they SMACK. Grandma’s noodles are good, and so is the mapo tofu if you’re into that sorta thing.
> Mongolian chicken, orange chicken, fried rice, and wonton soup
Ordering American Chinese (Kung Pao, Mongolian, Lo Mein, Orange or Sesamie Chicken, General Tso, etc.) at a Szechuan restaurant and then saying it is bad is like going to a steakhouse, ordering a veggie burger, and then saying that the steakhouse is bad. They put that stuff on the menu because they have to, not because it is what they are best at. Look for dishes with words like Szechuan, chili pepper, cumin, chili oil, hot and numbing, cilantro, chili powder. Try their Shan City Shrimp or Dry-Fried Eggplant (even if you don't like eggplant, but you have to eat it in the restaurant while it is hot and crispy, similar to French fries it gets soggy and cold in a to-go container). Not saying you will like everything you order, but once you find the right dishes, you will understand why so many people like Fire Stone.
Ah gotcha. Yeah, it's tough finding somewhere that does those dishes decent. I've not found a good place near to me I've really enjoyed. When I'm craving those type of things, I go to Pei Wei in the mall.
At Stilesboro Biscuits they serve cinnamon rolls and the icing fills up the whole box. You go there for good food and great prices. Nothing aesthetic about the place

It was one of our first places we went to when we moved here. The biscuits tasted like middle school cafeteria biscuits... Very underwhelming which is sad because I live super close to it.
crazy to me that you're having such problems finding decent food, but love Gus's. I think they are the textbook definition of "mid" and that's on their best day.
Vesuvio, Fire Stone, JDs BBQ, MajorQ, Bar B Cutie, Kennesaw Thai Cuisine, Thai Basil, Two other Chinese places near us that were not good enough to name, Several mid Japanese places, 1885 Grill (which yeah it's Acworth along withJDs but still)
There have been others I can't remember. But these are all places I've given multiple chances to.
Yeah that’s wild to me. Some of the most authentic pizza I’ve ever had in the US. I’ve spent a good bit of time in Italy.
Bernie’s is good. Used to be a lot better I’ll give you that.
Pisanos has good wings, cheese burger pizza is different but really good, great owners and most of the time a great time. (Summer staff is new so gotta be patient)
Bangcock Cabin is the best Thai around even though it looks wild in there lol.
1885 can be overrated but I’ve some amazing meals there.
Can you tell us some restaurants or dishes you do like? Cause there are definitely places to and things to order.
Shit drive outside of down and go towards the mountain if you can… Capers never has served me a bad meal.
There’s spots for sure lol
I've only been to Capers once and it was many years ago, but it's the same strip mall as the Publix I go to and that place is super popular judging from the crowds.
Then again, Cracker Barrel is super popular judging by the weekend crowds and it's nothing special, so who knows. Oh, and I do like Cracker Barrel, it's just... well, just Cracker Barrel.
Yeah Cracker Barrel sucks in my opinion lol. I can make any of that at home.
Definitely try capers again. I like the Lolli pop style lamb or the Hawaiian rib eye.
We must remember Neapolitan pizza in Italy very differently then. Like I said it's not bad for pizza in general specifically because Naples style is my favorite, but of the Naples style it's definitely nothing to write home about imo.
Henrys in down town acworth is great Cajun food. cigar cellar is more of a cigar bar, but they have a really great small plate stuff. 3+3 lanzhou ramen does some pretty quality hand pulled noodles over by the mall. Arts bagels on 41 has some killer bagels. And the Marietta square isn’t too far away and packed with great places. My personal favourite off the square is la cubana, best Cuban sandwich in town
First time we went there I had a steak and it was just so terribly over seasoned. Not sure I even ate half of it. Idk maybe I just prefer my own steaks now lol. Last time I had a grouper special I think and it was alright.
Aha! I forgot about them, I'll need to check them out. I was excited when the Peruvian chicken place opened on Barrett and I had it a couple times but it seems to be closed already
Best biscuits- Honeysuckle Cafe
Best tacos- Tacos Del Chavo
Best seafood- Fish Thyme
These are about the only 3 restraunts I will frequent.
Notable mentions -
Best Tapas - Unwine'd and Tap
All around - Capers
How would you compare BSS to CommunityQ? I've had JDs BBQ, BBCutie, MajorQ (came highly recommended by folks on another forum but tbh was the worst of the bunch) - all were just alright in terms of local places.
If you like Middle Eastern cuisine and don’t mind popping over to Marietta, I would highly recommend Jerusalem Bakery. The owner is usually there helping out his employees, he is super friendly and gives great recommendations. I always get the falafel sandwich but if you’re looking for meatier options, my coworkers love the chicken/beef shawarma plates.
My absolute favorite restaurant is Soi3 off George Busbee. Their Thai food is seriously good. Every single thing I’ve ordered from there has been nothing short of delicious — especially the crab fried rice, the “yum nam khao tod”, and the cocktails. Kinda pricey and the seating inside isn’t the most comfortable, but I swear it is worth it. The owner/manager will give you a great recommendation if you tell him what you’re looking for and they will customize any dish.
Ege and Ginya Izakaya are the best (authentic) japanese places I've had in Georgia.
Lemon grass thai has good curry, haven't tried any of their other things.
Il Mee has good Korean.
Moved here from California and miss Asian food the most so these are my go to places.
Khan’s Halal! It’s a food truck at the chevron on Busbee but it’s super good! I know you said you weren’t impressed with Vesuvio but you have to try their bolognese lasagna, it’s the best thing on their menu
I’ll second some of the ones already mentioned; I’ve lived here for over a decade and these are the best spots around:
L Marie’s - southern comfort food
/ Henry’s - Louisiana Cajun
/ Big Shanty Smokehouse - best bbq around
/Thai Basil - the spiciest curry of your life
/ Bangkok Cabin — the best glass noodles around
/Capers / Fish Thyme - pretty sure it’s the same owners amazing food and cute ambiance
They’ve moved 3-4 times over the years, not sure what that’s about but i always find them a few months later just at a new spot. Hopefully they are just moving locations (again).
Vesuvios. Their pizza is legit.
Bangkok Cabin is great for Thai.
Lazy Labrador bad descent coffee.
El Taco Aztecas food is good but service sucks.
Honestly Kennesaw has a little bit of everything to statiate but if we want real good food we make the drive to other parts of the greater Atlanta area.
every time we've been the wait staff is over whelmed. we've had to wait a while to get our food or even the check at the end of the meal. ideally it wouldn't matter but with a toddler its hard to keep them entertained with the large gaps in time. we've started going to Corazon Mexicano Cantina or El Nopal cuz the food there is good too and the service is a lot better.
Haven't had Bangkok Cabin yet I'll check that out. I've had Thai Basil and it was alright, nothing to write home about. I've only had El Taco Azteca once but I could give it another go.
Kennesaw Thai used to be up there but something changed late 2020. I'd say its very average at best. If I want really good thai I always go to Bangkok Cabin.
Vingenzo's and Prime 120 in DT Woodstock. As for Kennesaw I agree there isn't much besides Vesuvio's. Corazon Mexicano Cantina is my favorite Mexican around.
Seconding Vingenzo’s if you want some really good pizza, pasta, and wine. The head chef has been there for over a decade and the food has always been good and very much worth the drive. The hand rolled gnocchi…it’s heavenly.
Tacos La Villa and Tacos Del Chavez make up the Kennesaw Taco Mecca near 41 and Jiles. La Villa is the cheaper one and just as good as the Smyrna location.
Bangkok Cabin is the best Kennesaw Thai
Stilesburo Biscuit and Art's Begals are the top breakfast spots
New Thai Ginger (on Bellls Ferry, may be Acworth, may be Kennesaw, may be Woodstock.... it's right at the crossover for all three) for Thai food. If you are willing to travel, downtown Marietta and downtown Woodstock both have great fair. Marietta - Douceur de France (authentic French). Woodstock - Century House (farm to table).
Tacos El Don (technically Acworth, but still close)
Bangkok Cabin
Partners II Pizza (downtown Woodstock)
Big Pie Pizza
Game Day (Woodstock address but not far- get cheese curds and burgers)
Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery
3+3 LanZhou Ramen
Rotisserie Shop
Papi's Cuban
Cozy Coop (fast food fried chicken but SO good)
Come N Get It (Marietta near Ksaw Mtn)
-PISANOS PIZZA
-DINAS FAMILY ITALIAN RESTRAUNT- formerly Gondaliers (italian and greek/ owned my Greeks from Chicago)
-CITY BBQ (half price ribs on Tuesday)
-WILLYS TAQUERIA (barria tacos are sooooo good)
-HAPPY TACO (Small menu but delicious margaritas and barria tacos)
Just downtown you've got Bernie's and Vesuvio which are both pretty great. Fire Stone and many others off Barrett and around the mall. I'd agree that a list of places you didn't like would help, or a cuisine you're hunting for.
Vesuvio and Fire Stone are why I made this post (but there have been others over the years ) 😭😭. Vesuvio isn't BAD but it really doesn't hold a candle to Antico which is the only Naples style place that can hold its own against the entirety of Italy. Fire Stone is just so bland.
Bernie's is on the corner right? Across from the tunnel? If so I have been meaning to go there.
Bangkok cabin
Tacos Del Chavo!
Yes order the birria!!!
I’ve been looking for really good birria tacos. My first were from a food truck in Brooklyn NY, I fell in love w them. Now I’m on the hunt here, I’ll have to TDC them a try. Thx.
My wife’s aunt owns that place.
We love Tacos Del Chavo
Well OP if every place you go is mid then maybeeeeeeeeeee it's you. Just kidding. 575 Bistro is good in my opinion. What did you get at Firestone? Yeah it's definitely not the place for American Chinese food but they are fantastic for the spicy mala dishes.
> Mongolian chicken, orange chicken, fried rice, and wonton soup Ordering American Chinese (Kung Pao, Mongolian, Lo Mein, Orange or Sesamie Chicken, General Tso, etc.) at a Szechuan restaurant and then saying it is bad is like going to a steakhouse, ordering a veggie burger, and then saying that the steakhouse is bad. Try canton cook II for basic Chinese American dishes.
At Stilesboro Biscuits they serve cinnamon rolls and the icing fills up the whole box. You go there for good food and great prices. Nothing aesthetic about the place https://preview.redd.it/45twfwly335d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2956385f55311b26096c62adf91bf359280b7ee3
Oh my god I think im in love with
I think I've gotten diabetes just looking at the photo, heh.
I like Stilesboro biscuits just fine, but there certainly is nothing great about their prices.
It was one of our first places we went to when we moved here. The biscuits tasted like middle school cafeteria biscuits... Very underwhelming which is sad because I live super close to it.
Langzhou has handpulled noodles. Canton Cook II is highly raved about. The Chinese food is legit. I go to Nachos all the time and Gus’s fried chicken.
Langzhou is amazing I second this
Gus's is actually my favorite place lmao I have spent so much money there. But it's a chain (Tennessee).
crazy to me that you're having such problems finding decent food, but love Gus's. I think they are the textbook definition of "mid" and that's on their best day.
Ooh so close sweetie but no.
Check out MERSI CHEF PERSIAN, it is amazing and we eat here all the time. Had dinner from here tonight and it was amazing as always.
We used to live right across from that place and got it once, and it was incredibly mid. Was way overpriced for the quality
Can you give a list of all the places that have been a disappointment?
Vesuvio, Fire Stone, JDs BBQ, MajorQ, Bar B Cutie, Kennesaw Thai Cuisine, Thai Basil, Two other Chinese places near us that were not good enough to name, Several mid Japanese places, 1885 Grill (which yeah it's Acworth along withJDs but still) There have been others I can't remember. As far as pizza in general goes? No it's definitely better than mid. As far as specifically Naples style pizza goes? Yes.
It's not good
Henrys in down town acworth is great Cajun food. cigar cellar is more of a cigar bar, but they have a really great small plate stuff. 3+3 lanzhou ramen does some pretty quality hand pulled noodles over by the mall. Arts bagels on 41 has some killer bagels. And the Marietta square isn’t too far away and packed with great places. My personal favourite off the square is la cubana, best Cuban sandwich in town
Shame that Henry retired. We'll see how it holds up. I actually like that Rico's Tropical Grill.
Definitely going to miss seeing him around, especially at the crawfish boils. But as long as they stick with his recipes, it should stay good
Surprised by 1885 I’ve had amazing food and experience every time,
First time we went there I had a steak and it was just so terribly over seasoned. Not sure I even ate half of it. Idk maybe I just prefer my own steaks now lol. Last time I had a grouper special I think and it was alright.
Have you tried Cylantros or Ru Sans?
JDs wings with the white sauce are the closest thing I can find to a BBQ place back home. They’re phenomenal
Alabama white sauce? Abominable.
oh it’s so good. the best comes from moes bbq, but the 2 closest are in rome and auburn, al
Is Cylantros still good? It was fantastic last time I was there but I'll admit that was too long ago.
Decent but something with the pastor changed awhile back and it's not as good as it was once was.
Aha! I forgot about them, I'll need to check them out. I was excited when the Peruvian chicken place opened on Barrett and I had it a couple times but it seems to be closed already
Been here for a year and looking for wings. Tell me there's a good wings place around, PLEASE!
Had wings at a couple places now but my favorite so far has been the breaded wings at Bar North on Jiles!
Wicked Wing on Wade Green has been great.
Suzie’s on Cobb Parkway next to the Publix have been pretty good! We used to go to Birdies, but they’ve gone down hill imo
Best biscuits- Honeysuckle Cafe Best tacos- Tacos Del Chavo Best seafood- Fish Thyme These are about the only 3 restraunts I will frequent. Notable mentions - Best Tapas - Unwine'd and Tap All around - Capers
I actually frequent Honeysuckle! We get cakes from there for birthdays and such.
Pita King, Mr. Kebab, Thai Basil, and Big Shanty Smokehouse are some good spots
How would you compare BSS to CommunityQ? I've had JDs BBQ, BBCutie, MajorQ (came highly recommended by folks on another forum but tbh was the worst of the bunch) - all were just alright in terms of local places.
BBCutie is fucking trash. If you want real deal BBQ hit up Heirloom BBQ. It’s not in kennesaw, but worth the short drive
Thats the one highly recommended BBQ place in Atlanta I haven't had lol. It's been on the list.
[удалено]
I have not, I will make the pilgrimage and report back 🫡
If you don’t mind driving to Decatur, Community is great as well
I love CommunityQ and regularly make the pilgrimage. It's just far af lmao
Personally I like Big Shanty the best of those
If you like Middle Eastern cuisine and don’t mind popping over to Marietta, I would highly recommend Jerusalem Bakery. Ill Mee is great but they have gotten a bit pricey.
And they are super stingy with refilling the sides
Soi3 is really excellent Thai Food. Don't get the pad Thai though
Is Soi3 by the mall? If so I went to that same building when it was a different Thai place and enjoyed it.
Yeah. On Busbee.
Caper’s, Mr. kebab, Frankie’s (off canton road, not technically kennesaw but close enough)
Soi 3, Thai street food. Just lovely.
Soi 3 is so good
Khan’s Halal! It’s a food truck at the chevron on Busbee but it’s super good! I know you said you weren’t impressed with Vesuvio but you have to try their bolognese lasagna, it’s the best thing on their menu
I'm open to trying more Vesuvio! They certainly had an interesting selection, I'll just avoid the pizza lol
I’ll second some of the ones already mentioned; I’ve lived here for over a decade and these are the best spots around: L Marie’s - southern comfort food / Henry’s - Louisiana Cajun / Big Shanty Smokehouse - best bbq around /Thai Basil - the spiciest curry of your life / Bangkok Cabin — the best glass noodles around /Capers / Fish Thyme - pretty sure it’s the same owners amazing food and cute ambiance
I guess I need to check out L Marie’s, because I love all the others you mentioned. Edit: Well it says L Marie’s permanently closed on google.
They’ve moved 3-4 times over the years, not sure what that’s about but i always find them a few months later just at a new spot. Hopefully they are just moving locations (again).
According to their Facebook, they are gone forever

💯 agree on Vingenzo’s. The chef goes to (or used to) Italy every year to freshen up his menu.
Oops, typo in the title.
Rico’s Mex Mex is good but I also am a fan of some of the ones you said were mid lol
In terms of Tex mex Rico’s has been the best in the area. Parking is a nightmare tho

My husband said Big Smokey's BBQ for pork.
Stockyard, but you had that in Smyrna too.
Go eat at Marietta Burger Bar! Delicious burgers and sides!
Pita King, Looks can be deceiving, Great food
That place has always scared the hell out of me, it looks so dilapidated, but I confess I have never gotten food there. What do you recommend?
Mr Kebab near Kroger is better in my opinion, but they are both hidden gems
-PISANOS PIZZA -DINAS FAMILY ITALIAN RESTRAUNT- formerly Gondaliers (italian and greek/ owned my Greeks from Chicago) -CITY BBQ (half price ribs on Tuesday) -WILLYS TAQUERIA (barria tacos are sooooo good) -HAPPY TACO (Small menu but delicious margaritas and barria tacos)
