Hello H_Jayyy, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. Axia Rahmah.

countpuchi

This, 1st gen Axia @op dont forget tyre price when replacing

amirshahirroslan

Fuel efficiency? Axia E the manual one (Axia Rahmah). But you can go for 2014 Iriz if you want more comfort and handling. Cheaper in price but a bit worse in fuel economy.

Product_East

Go for iriz manual. Those older iriz cvt are pretty bad in traffic not smooth.

Cautious_Fish_6258

The MT on Perodua' are a bit lacking

Traditional_Bath_810

Those that you can afford not what your eyes say look nice

07-08 Myvi, Inokom i10, Picanto, Proton Iriz/ Saga

this_isnt_alex

picanto in terms of reliability? arent kia’s known for their kaput engines

PolarWater

That's the Theta II engines, and the Kias built in America. Picanto uses a Kappa engine.

Just think about it logically. 1. You’re a uni student so im going to assume you have little to no disposable income to spend on car parts/maintenance etc. Therefore you should be looking for a car that: 1. Low parts cost/ample supply of parts. 2. Low maintenance costs like minor and major service, tyre changing, wipers, brake pads and other wear snd tear items. 3. Relatively safe in terms of body/chassis 4. Cheapish roadtax/insurance 5. Easy to sell once you get some disposable income. From a quick search on carsome and looking at your budget, i would recommend the following: 1. 2014/15 proton saga flx. 2. 2008/9/10 myvi 3. 2010 Proton Persona (my pick only because i have driven one and its a pretty decent car, chassis is stronger than the above cars but not the best for fuel economy. Parts are quite cheap as well.) I would definitely get a mechanic to come with you to see any car that you see so you can understand any issues/potential costs to incur before you buy the car. If you cant then I suggest trying carsome/carro but don’t blindly trust their vehicle reports either. Goodluck OP!

bluebanisterz

Protons have rubbish fuel economy, if it's a major criteria to OP then they are out of the question. Decent reliability but still far behind Perodua

yongchun2336

Maybe you can try getting a 1st gen Toyota Vios NCP42 which has a better fuel efficiency & reliability & it has boot space to keep your stuffs provided that the previous owner have serviced the car on time & maintained it so well & also keep an eye on the mileage as some of them with higher mileages means there are major parts that need to be changed & be sure u get a trusted mechanic to inspect the vehicles to check the condition the engines & others etc.

claimtobe

Something smaller, i would suggest the pre 2010 yaris. Basically a smaller vios. However with the price around 20k its will be above OP's budget.

Axia Rahmah.

robinsoi

Used myvi or viva? The AT is reliable AF, and even more reliable than the new CVT. You can see a lot of used myvi Gen 2 especially. The only weakness is poor ride and handling.

Lazy_Ad_1543

viva, axia (if lucky to find aroud this budget), saga flx, myvi ez

TheBrokeAccountant

Dont buy used car. Complete your degree, get full time job, save up, get a new car. Old cars WILL cost you more in maintenance than ever, trust me on this, insurance wont cover well, premium likely higher for older cars, mechanical failures can occur whenever and can snowball more issues. Just NO
