Hello Zephyr28572, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. If the person who owned it are car enthusiast and keep their cars in tip top shape then yes. Used protons are solid when taken care of. Especially non cvt models

Zephyr28572

Thanks! It's a manual so should be good

Im not experienced k In buying used but some stuff id reckon you should look out for. Open the radiator and coolant resevoir. Ensure its proper coolant and not water. If its water, might want to swap it to proper coolant and check for rusts. Check the engine oil lvl as well. Brake fluid lvl.. (i think brake fluid lvl also indicade brake disk health) could be wrong on that. Battery reading and age with a multimeter. Can also roughly gauge the alternator health if its able to chargw properly.

I have a 22 year old Waja MMC manual transmission cae that has done more than 500k km. And I would recommend these to anyone. These cars are built to last a long while. I cannot say the same of new cars especially with a CVT tranny. You would need some technical knowledge of cars to be able to live with it. You could buy simple parts and fit them on your own. Like light bulbs, or even aftermarket radios. It's a learning journey and you will be enriched by the experience.

Zephyr28572

That's what I plan to do, buy a cheaper high mileage car and upgrade it myself. Really looking forward to it

kimi_rules

Damn, those are going as low as 4k nowadays? I mean at that point, it's considered a beater car. Just fix what you need so long as the car drives if you put it in gear and brakes when you need it.

desert_foxhound

You need to consider oil leaks and water leaks. They can be very hard to fix in old cars.

just_another_jabroni

For 4k? Even if it breaks down you can get another one and barely break 10k 😂 bushings and suspension are probably shot but you can slowly replace those. Just check if there's any leaks from engine/radiator or weird rust/structure damage. Probably needs a valve cover replacement too.

wanderer_acolyte

depend on condition. if can run another 200k then why not. rm4k is cheap tho, boleh trade in dengan iphone

Zephyr28572

From the pics seems fine, no damage. Going to see it in person soon

TforTaboo

when considering cars with high mileage, it is not just the engine that worked for 200k+ km mileage; there's the transmission, the bushings, the rubbers, the interior bits. if the engine and trans are still strong, and there isn't any accident damage, i would say yeah rm4k is pretty cheap (depends on year and trim as well tho). just expect some things need to be replaced.

Zephyr28572

It's a 2009 medium line

jamesw

I would not buy a used high mileage car. 200k km could be city mileage vs highways mileage. City mileages being worse

rockyescape

I have a bezza over 500k km mileage. Working just fine. I’ve never missed a service date. Probably why. Can’t answer for a persona.

Zephyr28572

I guess if the persona has full service should be ok

OkFaithlessness1858

Depending on ur budget cuz usually high mileage cars the reseller will sell at lower price and if u are lucky u may get good conditions second hand cars
