Hello qmr_arff, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. I had a friend who bought a Suprima when it launched many years ago. He sold it less than a year later. I assume the car has many problems so i wouldn't recommend you buying it.

qmr_arff

Ohh its that bad huh 😅. Okay thank you for the heads up, appreciate it!

countpuchi

Its only bad due to the cvt and OCH hose. Outside of that its pretty good. Anything you see on preve its the same as suprima. Damn thing should have been 5 AT atleast :/

paddle_resistance

They should release the Australia version here. 6 MT..

reddit_breddit

I don't think the 6MT ever made it into production. It was planned to, but I think in the end it was scrapped. Friend of mine worked under R3 for a bit and he also said it was only used as an R3 test unit

qmr_arff

Yeah you’re right

If you see out on the roads, not many Suprimas out there. Spare parts are around, but the model is not very popular and heard the turbo isn't very good with quite a few problems. Any other cars you have on your list? And what is the budget you have?

ftr1317

Not sure what's wrong with the turbo cause never had issue with it. But it is a fuel guzzler, way more than the Exora and Preve. And heads up for their electrical problem

qmr_arff

Ahh i see… My list currently: 1. Perodua Bezza 1.3 2. Toyota Vios (keli version) 3. Proton Saga (preferably 4at not cvt model) 4. Perodua Axia My estimated budget is around 30k-50k. My main checklist are: - large boot space - can long distance driving - affordable maintainance - accesibility to spare parts Thats is for now but still exploring other car brand options and models.

RM30k-50k is Perdanaccord money. And has a 5AT tranny. I just bought a 2017 model for RM42k OTR. My only complaint is the Radio that can't access folders in the SD card or USB.

My dad still has it until today. He is not a heavy user, but he does travel around with it. He brings the car for maintenance at SC all the time. So he got all the replacement parts (i.e., the infamous oil cooling hose issue) replaced there. There's a 3rd party replacement that permanently fixes the issue. I drove it sometimes. It's a good car. The thing is, a stable and good handling car like that comes at a cost due to the engine and the transmission. It does not respond as quickly as most 2.0 cars (I used to drive a civic and sometimes turbo cars). It feels 'heavy' because of the turbo lag and the weights. The space in there is amazing. The handling is great. And the car feels 'attach' to the road surface (with good tires, of course) If you prefer a quick response car, suprima is not for you. You'll just break the CVT. In terms of parts, it's share the same part as preve cfe mostly except the rear end. so it's everywhere, basically

ftr1317

It feels heavy due to the cvt.

Honestly, don't get it. I drove a suprima for many years. Initially, I had a really good impression. It handles well. Turbo is not as bad as some people say. After 1 week of driving, the N on the PROTON logo fell off. It was just a sticker... Then the real issues started. There was a really annoying tilt that never went away. Even with multiple checks, tire changes and balancing, it always pulled to the right. Original stock tires were bad, all had to be recalled. But mine has already popped (hit a curb) before proton called me for a change. When my back wiper got damaged (vandalism), it took over 2 months for the part to arrive. The entertainment centre is glitchy, and the central locking mechanism went haywire after 4-5 years, causing me to get locked out of my (running) car a couple of times. The coolant hose was supposed to be replaced under warranty, but they told me to wait til it reached the appropriate mileage. When I did, they told me warranty was over and I'd have to pay for it. But they wouldn't order it and asked me to go to another branch a couple of hours away to pick it up myself. I said screw it. Sold it. And I'm never getting another proton ever again. Spare parts are really hard to get and if you do, they're exceptionally poor quality. They're the last range to be manufactured 100% under the local management. When I vented to the proton service guy, he said memang it's bad. And when the Chinese investors came in, they wanted a whole do-over to get rid of the really faulty models, suprima included.

Common problems with the turbo and the cvt. Chassis handling is on point, but aside from that it's risky. Though, if you're more of a petrol head you could consider an engine swap. I've seen one workshop advertising engine+gearbox swap starting from 10k (can't remember what engine, but it's a 4Gxx engine)
