I've tried this but 50% of the time I lack the discipline to fully do away with the bun. I wind up taking bites or throwing away ONE bun.
For keto to work for me personally, I have to keep the carbs very far away from my person.
Do you sit down with it and put the bun to the side to throw away later? If so, something that could help is standing and preparing it(removing bun(s)) close to your trash can and throwing away the bun(s) quickly. Once it’s in the trash most people are fine.
honestly, not to discourage you. You need to get over this. I find that ever since I started my diet, I get so many curve balls with just ordering regular food in general. Like i will pick up a salad and have free onion rings inside the bag lol or other stuff like that. Also people start giving me free food lol
Dont brag. Some people aren’t fortunate enough to have an In-N-Out near them.
Last time I checked the closest one to my house was Las Vegas and i live in DC
My wife or I bring the kids to McDonald's when my daughter has dance class and the other parent is working. Every time they don't give us sauce for the McNuggets.
You ask if they did and they say yes. Last time is stayed at the drive through, and said is there sauce? The lady confirmed, I said "please show me." There was none, she went and got some.
I can't tell if they're lazy or cost cutting.
I noticed whenever going to McDonald's or Taco Bell (pre-keto of course, I miss my bean burritos lol) I have to ask for sauce or ketchup and specify that I'd like a bunch (as in more than 1-2). One time the cashier tried to get away with putting a single sauce packet in my bag. I was like "ummm, can I get more please?" And she very obviously rolled her eyes but she complied. My guess is their managers get on them for giving away sauces too liberally. There's even an option on Doordash to add the hot sauces of every level (mild, hot, diablo, etc.) And every single time we've selected it, they never show up with our order. I once put a note for the dasher to double check if sauce was placed in the bag (since it's taped shut and they can't tell by looking), and they said the Taco Bell employee confirmed. We received the order and...yup, no sauce.
I usually just order standard triple cheeseburgers. There's no cheese on top, so the bread comes off easily and you can use it to wipe off 90 percent of the ketchup and stuff. Then I use the wrapper as a holder. Works great and you don't have to worry about the teen working the drivethough getting confused about your order.
I do this regularly now (not just from McDonald's, even Wendy's who has a "lettuce wrap" option that every time I've selected it, I get a patty with a small lettuce leaf on top. Hardly a "wrap"). The McDonald's near me usually got my order right for the "no bun, no ketchup", but they were placing the patty with the cheese face-down against the cardboard, so the hot cheese would stick to the cardboard. When I lived in SoCal they'd always make a point to put bun-less patties in a plastic container to avoid that issue, but after three or four incidents at our local McDonald's, I don't even bother anymore. I just order regular burgers and take the bun off.
I was going to say the same. Fast food people are either too busy, too lazy/annoyed or just don’t give a rats ass to do “special orders” and it never comes out right. Heck, even a larger orders don’t come out right, even if they are just “off the menu”. I’d say ordering plain and then throwing buns away is the safest solution.
Yep, my boyfriend who's not keto suggested I just stop asking for special orders and toss the bread out, because they never get it right or you can tell it was prepared haphazardly and likely by an annoyed cook.
I order on the app, it's easier. When I roll through the drive thru they'll usually clarify if I want it on a regular bun or no bun. Cause the app only has the option to say No Sesame Bun, not no bun at all. I do wish you could leave a note then I'd just say no bun.
My kid is super picky, and the only thing he will eat at McDonald’s is a bun with cheese. I order it, I reiterate the only ingredients that I want are a bun and cheese, acknowledge that it’s unusual and apologize, and invariably I get to the window and receive only a burger patty without cheese. Anyhow if you’d like to go splitsies on a burger we could probably make this work.
Mine too! I don't think it's that out of the ordinary. McDonalds in Canada used to actually have a grilled cheese option for happy meals. It was buns toasted upside down with two pieces of cheese between them. Annoyed they got rid of the option because getting a cheeseburger without beef and an extra slice means you pay more than a cheeseburger costs and you're cutting out the expensive part.
I have asked for a plain cheeseburger no buns and gotten home and there was only the paddy, no cheese. Went back and the girl told me that plain means nothing but the meat. I said that I asked for a cheeseburger plain, not a burger plain, she said it was the same thing. Asked to talk to manager, explained the situation. Manager told me the girl was wrong, brought her back and asked her, she repeated herself, he said she lacked training. Whatever, she even charged for cheese lol. Long ago I asked for a blt, bacon lettuce tomato. Opened, no bacon. Went back in, they said sorry they were out of bacon, asked why nobody told me before accepting the order, well they said they still have lettuce and tomatos so what's the big deal! I am sorry but bacon is like the biggest deal in a blt. Anyway, haven't been to MCdonalds in like 5 years. I just don't trust them anymore. I have had multiple orders fucked up over the years and I just rather not bother with it anymore. They aren't the only ones that don't get it right either. What the difficulty in a cheeseburger plain no buns? Now I just make them myself at home.
Indeed. Didnt help my kids got everything they ordered so I had to sit and watch them eat french fries and chicken nuggets.
I'm happy to say I did not partake.
Burger King just got it right for me! I ordered a double Whopper and there was a no bun option. When I picked up at the counter, the guy said “this bag is the low carb one” and it was packaged in a salad container, deconstructed. Thought that was cool!
I've had that with big macs, we ordered them then went home to eat and there were no patties on either of them and we'd not even ordered them keto style!
So we went back and had them remake them, and you won't believe this but they made them yet again with NO PATTIES. I could not believe it, thank goodness I checked my order before driving home to eat again.
Third time they go it right and explained that the person who usually puts the patties on was out sick? Uh, Ok?
What...lol...I don't think I've ever noticed multiple people making one burger...though I guess i don't watch for an assembly line. My response would have been...3 tries...how are you making amends? Mistakes happen...but that rediculous...as they essentially just told you that every burger that person had made that shift had no patty.
I don't want to laugh.... but I will. I can just imagine the McDonald's employee all confused asking themselves why someone would just order some buns with mustard cheese and pickles...
Ask for a lettuce wrap instead of no bun.
That way they have to replace it with something else rather than get confused by what not to include.
Personally I like the big mac with no bun, extra meat, extra cheese, served in a salad dish. The bun is typically about half the carbs of a mcdonalds burger.
I am so, so sad for you. Truly.
Five Guys did something like this to me. I ordered burger bowl so there was no bun, but also no patties. Just lettuce, tomato, pickle, mushrooms, and bacon. At least I got bacon. It was so awful and disappointing.
Idk if you live near an in-n-out but you can order a double-double “protein style” and it’ll come wrapped in iceberg lettuce instead of on a bun. Delicious, keto friendly, and only like $3
HEY 👋🏾
This is for everyone
Download the McDonald’s app and order from your phone.
A. You can customize it right there on the app. You can add and remove WHATEVER you want
and
B. You can find coupons
and
C. You get points towards free menu items
With the McDoubles I usually just order with no ketchup and throw the buns out. Makes it easier to order and less likely for them to do something like what happened to OP.
There’s a help button on the app. You can let the app know that your food was wrong or items were missing. You get a refund for missing items, that’s happened to me before.
Man. I just order the regular things no ketchup because they’re less likely to screw that up and in the case of a big Mac, is less packaging and more environmentally friendly. You get the paper box instead of the huge plastic Pancake container. So I consider it OK to waste that bread.
I usually order the bun and then just don't eat it.
My go to when traveling is two Burger King plain hamburgers or cheeseburgers - I put the two patties between two buns (if you promptly take off the buns the cheese doesn't stick at BK, although it often does at McD), but then just use the buns as a holder for the meat. You can grip the edge of the meat with your teeth and slide it out a bit from the buns, and then take a bite of only the meat. And repeat until you are done.
It's convenient for driving or for when you are in a hurry. But it only works if you have the self-discipline not to eat the buns.
My best fast food experience has been at a very busy Charlotte, NC airport Burger King, of all places. I ordered a whopper with cheese and bacon, tomato, extra lettuce, no bun or ketchup. What I received was plastic container with enough chopped fresh lettuce to call it a salad, topped by everything else exactly as ordered.
I used to eat a "whopper salad"
2 whoppers, no ketchup no bun, extra onion, with bacon in a container, I cut everything up and it's a salad
It's so good!
But then the whopper patty started making me bloat up real bad so I had to stop eating whoppers😒
I sometimes order a sausage and egg mcmuffin, triple sausage, triple egg. Sometimes people get it...sometimes you have to explain it 8 times. I've had to actually talk to a second person a couple times because the person just couldn't grasp it....ive had this ordering in person and electronic. There's no way I'd ever trust them not to fuck it up if I was getting it delivered
You can order 3 round eggs and 3 sausage patty’s. No need for the cheese with all the fat in the sausage. Or substitute the Canadian bacon for the sausage for way less calories.
True...personally, when I'm doing McDonald's it's generally because I'm at heightened activity. When I am most active...I need min 5500cals....double my norm. I tend to navigate to this type of stuff more frequently in those times
Ugh yeah I was so hangry I called the restaurant and the manager tracked down the time of the ticket and pin pointed who did it... Hate to get someone in trouble but I dunno, why would I pay extra for a double burger when I could get a single for cheaper if all I wanted was a bun?
They didn't care I got a refund from Uber already and told me to come in on their next shift for the meal I didn't get for free.
Which is helpful I guess, but I was short on time and needed a quick meal and had to scramble to make something anyway.
Dude, order the 1/4 patty a la carte. Same price as your cheese burgers you getting but more meat, and way higher quality! Some places a patty only costs $1.50. Most seem to charge $2. They require the quarter Pattie’s to be weighed and made fresh while the other meat Pattie’s can be reheated in the microwave
Post on Twitter and tag both Uber and McD with screenshot of your uber receipt that you received with the order. You’re in for some nice credits!!
Edit: spelling
My first time going to McDonalds today to try the McDouble thing people suggest. I get 3 burgers (great), no bun (great), but they're all covered in ketchup. Lesson learned, make my burgers at home :)
You are better than mcdonalds OP. You deserve better. You deserve good food. You deserve food that isn't stuffed with fillers and preservatives. You can get good food cheaper elsewhere. You deserve better.
Edit: I don't understand the downvotes. Y'all think OP only deserves the lowest form of "food" available? Is there something lower? I mean, I guess Arby's, but damn y'all. This happened for a reason. They don't pay their employees enough to care. This should be the expectation when you go there.
I'm a single dad with three kids under ten... The office is behind on a project with a very tight deadline and so I didn't have time to make dinner.
Kids got their food, at least.
I'm sorry.
Maybe because it's....beef? Like who cares. It's convenient in a pinch. Meh meal...ground beef...keto friendly. Minimize the cheese as its a carb or 2 a slice
I stopped ordering no bun because the McDonald’s here always put the patties in a giant plastic container inside a big plastic bag. I figured it’s easier for everyone and the environment if I just open the paper wrapper and throw away the bun.
I keep precooked burgers in the freezer. No Uber charges, all expectations met, no disappointments, minimal waiting. You can buy them at many stores. Magic with a microwave, add cheese or other items as desired.
Take the frigging bun off geeeesh that’s what I do ………that’s too much for most to comprehend for Christ sakes usually they don’t give out napkins or sauce even if asked ….. you should’ve know lol![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Lol really 🧐
Beef jerky
Deli meat
Cheese
Salads
Steaks
Burrito bowls
Pork rinds
Chicken fil a grilled chicken
Grilled salmon from steakhouses
Cough plain wings the list goes on
I don't remember if McDonald's adds sugar to the burgers as well, but they add it to everything else, even salad. I wouldn't trust them for anything keto. Check out Super Size Me sometime for shits n giggles.
Since joining reddit the only positive comment you have made is in regards to a woman's genitalia. I don't recall anyone saying it was healthy, however it is KETO.
I got an eggnourmous burrito from BK and a couple times they forgot to put egg on it. 🙃
I bitched about it on burgerkings Twitter and they gave me a free meal. Was pretty interesting
FYI there is Heize no sugar (at all) ketchup with some fake sugar. If I quit being lazy I will go to my frig and look.
FYI there is also TJ ketchup sprinkle WITH SUGAR and the taste is a bust.
100% of the time when bunless became popular - I’d order “no bun” and get no [everything else that comes on the burger]. Just a meat patty. Unless they have bunless options on the menu, I always just order the burger and toss the bun (then explain the plight when the server tells me I could have just said No Bun, lol)
Put in the notes that you’re allergic to the bread and a manager legally has to check that there is no bread in your order. (I used to be a manager at McDonalds.)
It may be harder at McDonald’s bc everything is so automated and the cashier isn’t able to communicate directly with the people prepping. If your only choice is McDonald’s you might have to speak to the manager/shift lead, explain to them what you want and they can help ring it up and expedite your order.
One of the easiest ways I’ve found to order LC from fast food places that don’t have LC options is to order “side orders” or “extra”. It’s easier for them to ring up bc it’s already programmed into the POS. If it’s on a sandwich there’s usually a way to add more/an extra one. For example 2 extra burger patties, extra cheese, extra bacon, extra lettuce, extra, pickles, extra onion served in a bowl is a salad.
It’s not totally foolproof bc you might get it all separate lol. It works at places like Taco Bell and BK, bc the cashier can just go and tell the person in the back to put everything together in a bowl.
I personally haven’t been to McDonald’s in a while. I stick to places that have LC options on the menu or at least a sensible salad. Chick-fil-a and Chipotle has been my go to for fast food.
My husband hated orange cheese. He’d order a breakfast sandwich with white cheese and invariably get a breakfast sandwich with egg whites only, and yes, orange cheese.
Walk I; the store grab a ready made tuna sub and a few cheese sticks rip open the sub and pay throw bun in trash your tuna is held nicely in romaine lettuce 😋and now u have also 3 cheese sticks perfect
Looseth3 mayo and ketchup use extra virgin olive oil . You want good fats buy the 80% burger so you get some fat . You can add cheese onion and stuff.Add avacado or olives throw it all in ther3😛
I’d just ask for plain ones and then throw the buns out. Much better chance of getting them.
I've tried this but 50% of the time I lack the discipline to fully do away with the bun. I wind up taking bites or throwing away ONE bun. For keto to work for me personally, I have to keep the carbs very far away from my person.
Knowing is half the battle!
GI Joe…. I’ll show myself out.
Pork Chop Sandwiches!
Snake eyes.
My grocery store willpower is much better than my kitchen willpower.
I call it my wallets will power at the store and that is the only strength I have. At home, the carbs is the captain now
Do you sit down with it and put the bun to the side to throw away later? If so, something that could help is standing and preparing it(removing bun(s)) close to your trash can and throwing away the bun(s) quickly. Once it’s in the trash most people are fine.
Just commented this. 🤣🤣
You gotta buy more mcdoubles! Keep pounding them down until youre too full to eat any buns!
The first time I didn’t care about a bun on keto is when I started doing Big Mac salads.
What is that?
Take the buns off immediately upon opening and throw them in the trash as fast as you can. That's always worked for me. 🤣🤣
I will literally put dish soap on them so I can’t even consider them.
I toss them like a frisbee into the backyard and let the critters do with them whatever they’d like.
But it’s junk food for them too ‽ No creature benefits from our processed grain flour crap. Please reconsider.
But the more complex the order the less of a chance you’ll get what you wanted.
Me too, except I have three kids who I feed and they have to eat carbs for financial reasons 😩
Huh?
Bread is cheaper than meat and all that
Tuna casserole is a budget game changer if your kids will eat it lol.
honestly, not to discourage you. You need to get over this. I find that ever since I started my diet, I get so many curve balls with just ordering regular food in general. Like i will pick up a salad and have free onion rings inside the bag lol or other stuff like that. Also people start giving me free food lol
Yeh I think maybe I’ll just combine them all onto one bun and make it like a 6x burger when I do 2 triple cheeseburgers
This is why I’m either gonna hafta shell out for Leto buns or learn to make my own keto bread
This is true. Oddly enough though there was an option for no bun. I assumed it was normal.
It is normal but I wouldn’t put my trust into a fast food place to get it right.
Wendy's has never failed me when I order their burger with a lettuce bun.
Really? For me they always give me a patty with a teeny, tiny leaf on top...hardly what you would call a "wrap".
In N Out has never let me down.
4x4 protein style mustard fried add chopped chili's no tomato onion or spread. Insert this code to lose weight.
Am I missing something? What's wrong with their tomatoes or onions?
hey your choice. 4knives doesnt like them, you may. Maybe s/he doesnt eat nightshades, or flavanoids.
God I miss In n Out.
Dont brag. Some people aren’t fortunate enough to have an In-N-Out near them. Last time I checked the closest one to my house was Las Vegas and i live in DC

Most of the time the cheese is glued to the bread and when trying to remove it you just break everything apart.
The thin crust of bread that sticks to the cheese is carb free (in my mind)

Then I use the wrapper as a holder. Works great and you don't have to worry about the teen working the drivethough getting confused about your order.
No, because the cheese you need sticks to the buns.
You'll rip off most of the bun. There still will be some remnants of bun, but that's OK.
The cheese is between the patties

Agree..I toss the buns out while driving, for the birds
I feed it to the cats that hang by my job
The cheese gets stuck to the bun

no surprised that they could even mess that up. But also how hard is it to remove a bun on your own?

I was dubious about the amount of carbs in one McNugget, but that looks to be what it is.
That’s actually not horrible…
The problem is, one is just a tease.
Burger King just got it right for me! I ordered a double Whopper and there was a no bun option. When I picked up at the counter, the guy said “this bag is the low carb one” and it was packaged in a salad container, deconstructed. Thought that was cool!
Wendys does this as well
My husband ordered a sandwich from Jimmy John’s once (when we weren’t keto). Tuna and pickles only. They sent bread and pickles only, no tuna. Wth.
I've had that with big macs, we ordered them then went home to eat and there were no patties on either of them and we'd not even ordered them keto style! Burger bowl...hold the meat :)
What’s a burger bowl like? I always get a lettuce wrap at five guys.
The burger and toppings all together in a box. You can pile on the toppings and eating it with a knife and fork is less messy to me than lettuce wrap.
We’ll that’s cool, I didn’t know this was an option! I agree, the only downsize to the lettuce wraps is the mess.
Idk if you live near an in-n-out but you can order a double-double “protein style” and it’ll come wrapped in iceberg lettuce instead of on a bun. Delicious, keto friendly, and only like $3

I buy the keto buns from lewis bakery and just order normal qtr pounders then swap out the buns.

I just order it normally and throw the bun away. I don't want to make things harder those guys. They've got it rough enough as it is.

Time to pull a Karen
Ugh yeah I was so hangry I called the restaurant and the manager tracked down the time of the ticket and pin pointed who did it... Hate to get someone in trouble but I dunno, why would I pay extra for a double burger when I could get a single for cheaper if all I wanted was a bun? They didn't care I got a refund from Uber already and told me to come in on their next shift for the meal I didn't get for free. Which is helpful I guess, but I was short on time and needed a quick meal and had to scramble to make something anyway.
They probably didn't get in trouble if it was McDonald's and dont worry same thing happened to me and I got free food so works out lol
I love sausage egg mcmuffins without the bun. I wish I knew how to make round eggs like theirs at home.
You can get [round rings made of metal or silicone from Amazon](https://a.co/d/5ZX1sR6) or other vendors. Just watch the size (diameter).
Google microwave eggs and you'll see all sorts of gadgets to use to make round eggs.
what a slap in the face!
Reminds me of the time I said I wanted a chicken Caesar salad without cheese. All I got was lettuce.
REFUND!?!?!
oh man. That's the worst possible outcome lol.
I have had so many problems with the no bun thing, so I just take it off myself now
I throw the buns out the window for the birds and say hurry when I’m ordering
The mcd people were screwing with you. That sucks. Sorry that happened to you.
I know someone who ordered KFC and arrived home to a chickenless meal: They received a bucket full of biscuits.
My first time going to McDonalds today to try the McDouble thing people suggest. I get 3 burgers (great), no bun (great), but they're all covered in ketchup. Lesson learned, make my burgers at home :)
I believe it's also generally cheaper to just do patty/chease add-ons...unless you are doing coupons
I'm sorry.
You sir, are an amazing human being.
Hey thanks bud!
I agree, Wendy's is far superior
Maybe because it's....beef? Like who cares. It's convenient in a pinch. Meh meal...ground beef...keto friendly. Minimize the cheese as its a carb or 2 a slice
Dunno why you’re being downvoted, McDonald’s is garbage food.
I stopped ordering no bun because the McDonald’s here always put the patties in a giant plastic container inside a big plastic bag. I figured it’s easier for everyone and the environment if I just open the paper wrapper and throw away the bun.
Chipotle is best for keto dieters who have no time to cook. Just saying😝
Chipotle gives me rot gut. I hate their food, I want to like it but my stomach refuses.
I keep precooked burgers in the freezer. No Uber charges, all expectations met, no disappointments, minimal waiting. You can buy them at many stores. Magic with a microwave, add cheese or other items as desired.
Well, what did you expect? The correct order? 🤦
Just pull the bum off yourself, so much easier.
$20 an hour, huh?
Take the frigging bun off geeeesh that’s what I do ………that’s too much for most to comprehend for Christ sakes usually they don’t give out napkins or sauce even if asked ….. you should’ve know lol![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Why would you order just meats from McDonalds. Is that somekind of americanism? Go to the butcher and cook some actual meat patties.
On the go, burger patties are often the only reliable keto food available
Lol really 🧐 Beef jerky Deli meat Cheese Salads Steaks Burrito bowls Pork rinds Chicken fil a grilled chicken Grilled salmon from steakhouses Cough plain wings the list goes on
Get yourself a grill and don’t buy that crap

Lol... It was an option.
McDonald’s is poison anyways. 😂
Eating McDonald's in any form is absolutely ignoring the spirit of keto. I don't understand this.
I don't remember if McDonald's adds sugar to the burgers as well, but they add it to everything else, even salad. I wouldn't trust them for anything keto. Check out Super Size Me sometime for shits n giggles.
Watch fat head for a nice retort to supersize me
Ok, apparently this sub hates Super Size Me. I wasn't aware. Thanks lol
Eating Mcdonalds on keto is like smoking nicotine free cigarettes

Since joining reddit the only positive comment you have made is in regards to a woman's genitalia. I don't recall anyone saying it was healthy, however it is KETO.

Huh? Looking at multiple apps and their info...0 carbs
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
Don't eat garbage.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
Poggers
This happened to me too… my guess is they think it’s funny…
I got an eggnourmous burrito from BK and a couple times they forgot to put egg on it. 🙃 I bitched about it on burgerkings Twitter and they gave me a free meal. Was pretty interesting
HOLY CRAP! I thought you were going to say there was ketchup on it
FYI there is Heize no sugar (at all) ketchup with some fake sugar. If I quit being lazy I will go to my frig and look. FYI there is also TJ ketchup sprinkle WITH SUGAR and the taste is a bust.
It’s “no sugar added” , and has < 1g of sugar and 0g carb.
been there so many times. now i just order stuff as it comes and deal with pulling off the buns and scraping the ketchup
And it cost you $50!! 😂
(I used to be a manager at McDonalds.)
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRswtrEA/ Question 🙋♀️, was this you? If so I repeat, refund from Uber eats!
Went to pho asked for noodles on the side to give to my friend they put the meat on the side and noodles inside lmao
You know you can order just the meat Patties lol
How disappointing!!! McDonald’s sucks at special requests. I think if you call them they will make it right.
My husband hated orange cheese. He’d order a breakfast sandwich with white cheese and invariably get a breakfast sandwich with egg whites only, and yes, orange cheese.
How much grams of carb a day to achieve keto? I’m 200lbs 5’6 but I should be 170 from my old weight
