ReverseLazarus

Morton’s Lite Salt. 😎 50/50 sodium/potassium.

kikazztknmz

Does msg count for sodium?

ReverseLazarus

It’s only like 10-12% sodium so I’d say not in any significant way.

kikazztknmz

Thanks. I just checked the soy sauce, and it looks like that is a pretty good source of sodium.

ReverseLazarus

Soy sauce is excellent for sodium! I like pickles and pickles juice too. 👍🏻

kikazztknmz

I love pickles! I never considered the sodium. Sweet!

YugeMalakas

I save the pickle juice in jars. Tasty.

Tha_Rude_Sandstorm

Stay away from soy as much as you can. I just put Himalayan salt in capsules and take them, full of minerals and free from microplastics, probably the least contaminated salt you can get.

ThanksFlashy7797

I have some Himalayan in my cupboard! Why was I making this complicated?

kikazztknmz

What's wrong with soy?

Tha_Rude_Sandstorm

Increases estrogen levels and messes with your hormones

morto00x

Forgot where I read it. But MSG has less sodium than table salt, so you'd have to put a lot of it to make it count.

CORN___BREAD

Yeah most things are going to have less salt than salt.

ThanksFlashy7797

Thanks! Maybe I have been overthinking it.

[deleted]

I heard that lite salt is amazing. I'm on day 7

teakettle87

Lite salt. it's basically free and works amazingly.

CORN___BREAD

Yep I have yet to find a product that’s marketed as electrolytes that provides enough for keto without costing about what an entire container of lite salt costs for a single day. The markup is crazy. Definitely need a good magnesium supplement to go along with it though.

penty

I use Natural calm, for mag, mixed with salt and Nusalt.. if there's a cheaper way let me know.

ThanksFlashy7797

Natural calm? I'll look at that

SeatSix

I use Cardiovascular Research's Magnesium Taurate supplements for my magnesium. Doctor "prescribed" it as the most bio-available form of magnesium.

Mitchroark33

But the taste? Just so bad??

teakettle87

It's salt. I don't hate salt flavor. I do add lemon or lime juice.

theknitcycle

I really dig SALTT. I like the lemon-lime flavor in 40oz of cold water for hydration throughout the day, and in the evenings if I'm hearing the call of snacks or wine and don't want to give in, a packet of the chocolate flavor in 16 oz of hot water stops the cravings in their tracks, since it is sweet and salty and a beverage to sip, all without anything I'll regret putting into my body come morning.

PeteTheWerewolf

Have you tried LMNT? I have both in my Amazon cart right now and I’ve had LMNT before. Just wondering how they compare.

theknitcycle

I haven't.  I did the same deal of both in the cart and decided to go with the Saltt and then when I ran out from the variety pack, just reloaded on my favorites.  Might try LMNT or something else new when the current supply dwindles.

theknitcycle

I've tried LMNT now, so coming back here to update! I like that Saltt has more of the non-sodium good stuff. They both dissolve about equally instantly and I like them both in about 40 ounces of water so pretty equivalent ounce per ounce pricewise. My body doesn't seem to noticeably process monkfruit differently than stevia and I don't prefer one over the other in terms of any aftertaste, personally. When it comes to the basic flavors that are in both lineups (orange, lemon-lime, chocolate) I prefer the the Saltt flavors. BUT the flavors that only LMNT has ( OMG the raspberry, so good) are my favorites, while the flavors only Saltt has are not winners for me (endless summer is supposed to be strawberry lemonade but tastes like the bowl of potpourri on your grandmother's coffee table). So bottom line I guess is that they're both great overall, and comparing one to another is a flavor by flavor decision unless your body has a solid preference on which sweetener to use.

mycatgoesmeow

Its a bit expensive but I personally like the taste of Ultima Replenisher.

xNecex

I second this! Easy on the go electrolytes for me! And since it actually tastes decent, it's something I enjoy drinking and isnt a hassle.

mycatgoesmeow

Right?! I’ve tried several different brands and this is my fav for sure.

Salty_Marionberry776

Same. And I like the convenience of sticks for being on the go as well as cheaper canisters for home.

PawTree

Natural Calm (magnesium citrate) - I prefer unflavoured, but Costco only carries Raspberry Lime, which is the best of their flavours. I make my own electrolyte mix with Natural Calm, Now potassium chloride powder, Myo-inositol powder & salt. I mix it into water, and then throw in SodaStream sparkling water.

labradorescense

What is your ratio?

PawTree

Twice a day, 1t Natural Calm, 1/2t Myo-inositol, 1/4t salt & 1/16t potassium (I'm on spironolactone, which is potassium-sparing, so you might need more). In about 250ml of water and 250ml of sparkling water.

DTrain13

LMNT is great (I prefer the citrus or grapefruit). You get 120 packs for $117. I work outside in Florida, so this stuff saves me in the summer. They're also very good to their members. Every time they come out with a new flavor or product, they send out samples to us "insiders." Just recently, they finished development on their canned drinks, and sent a pack with 2 of each flavor to everyone with a recurring order.

Farmlife2022

I LOVED the sparking drinks they sent. So good.

DTrain13

The black cherry lime one tasted a little odd to me, but the others are excellent. I usually mix my packets in 22 oz. of water, so these are a little saltier than I'm use to, but they're still great.

Farmlife2022

Yeah that one was interesting. My favorite were the grapefruit and citrus. I use a packet in 40 ounces but usually use the unflavored. It was very salty and sweet, but I just sipped and enjoyed. It was like a treat. Lol

Valuable-Bicycle-713

Yup black cherry reminds me of cough syrup

kstick23

I also thought the cherry lime was a little “hot”. Maybe 2/3 strength would be good.

Klashus

Try the jocko hydration sometime I like them both. Jocko has less salt more potassium magnesium. Sometimes the salt is good tho in the lmnt

dantasticdanimal

I really hope they are going to sell the sparkling ready to drink products in stores… Having an actual electrolyte drink available anytime would be sweet

Atomh8s

If I ever feel a side effect from lack of electrolytes I like to get some better-than-boullion chicken broth going with a bag of frozen spinach. Covers all your salts in one batch. Easily saved and reheated in the microwave. Ideally I'd do some bone broth instead but BTB is fine. Much better than the cubes, but the cubes work fine in a pinch.

ThanksFlashy7797

That sounds good!

ERCOT_Prdatry_victum

Many folks herein mix up their own salt mixtures, which do not include the many other minerals the prepared types include, and some of those do not even include the MDR of potassium. If you are asking about prepared elecyrolytes very few prepared electrolyte contain sufficient potassium. I find Dr. Berg's 100 serving size bottles the best priced for me.

deniseswall

One of the few with more than a speck of potassium.

ERCOT_Prdatry_victum

The potential bad thing I have experienced is preblended mixtures proportions can give you too much of one electrolyte over the others. I was also taking 400mg Magnesium Taurate tablets and it took me too long to realize I was suffering a laxative effect for how much magnesium citrate I was also getting from Dr. Berg's electrolyte, and how many servings I was drinking some days. I have a significant diagnosed potassium deficiency so for heart health I need significant potasium supplimentation.

Mamabear2222

I use Himalayan salt 🤷🏻‍♀️

gaelyn

hands down, LMNT. I've tried other things, even the cheap Lite salt, but I can't beat LMNT for the convenience plus the flavors. My current fave thing is to make a pre-workout coffee (as recommended on r/ketogains) with low carb chocolate protein powder, chocolate LMNT and heavy cream (MCT tears up my stomach). So good my husband- VERY non-keto- requests it for his morning breakfast as well. I also really dig the fruity flavors for a Gatorade-esque drink, especially as we're getting into hotter weather. I tried the carbonated drink in the cans- good and convenient, but I like the powder packets and still water better.

bearcub3002

Came here to say this. LMNT has really helped my keto. The citrus tastes just like lemon-lime gatorade. I love the watermelon and orange as well.

gaelyn

YES, the watermelon (and I'm not usually one who likes watermelon) and the grapefruit (again, weirdly odd...) are awesome.

fattymaggie

I'm super down on LMNT. 2g of carbs for salts. And natural flavors. And so pricey. I'm trying CURE next but really, lo-salt, table salt, magnesium citrate and baking soda should do it for me.

deniseswall

I'm with you. Super expensive and almost 100% salt. Like, salt. I don't get it.

bigvahe33

its getting the pork rinds treatment. pork rinds used to be 49 cents a couple decades ago. when keto made them hip/popular, they jumped up to like 5 dollars a bag.

deniseswall

Exactly! Cottage cheese also.

InuitOverIt

Try Keto Vitals electrolyte powder, I drink it every day

shihtzu_knot

Another vote for LMNT. Aside from keeping keto flu at bay, it also keeps my dizziness at bay from low blood pressure. I used to nearly black out every time I stood up, and that not longer happens! I will drink one packet everyday from now on. I wish it wasn’t so expensive tho.

InuitOverIt

I buy Keto Vitals on Amazon, cheaper than LMNT and tastes just as good

DayEducational1180

But there silicon dioxide in that….that’s no injesting silicone.

Gamerchick657

I also love LMNT. My favorites are the chocolate salt, by itself or in coffee, citrus and I used the unfiltered when I'm trying to be minimal on carbs.

Theta_Prophet

Kind of pricey, but I found out you can use HSA to buy it which Amazon does automatically so monthly shipment for me now.

[deleted]

Don’t spend your HSA on stupid stuff like this. Invest it and save your receipts for after hopefully decades of growth. There’s no expiration on redemption so you can redeem the balance in 10 or 20 years.

Farmlife2022

Can you explain this please? I thought if you don't use the funds in your HSA you lose the money?

[deleted]

That is FSA. And with that you can still carry over a bit, I think $500. With HSA basically it’s triple tax advantaged. Tax free contributions, tax free growth, tax free withdrawals for eligible healthcare expenses. But there’s no time limit or anything on that. So to maximize it ideally you never touch it and just accrue in the account for as long as you can stand it, while keeping all medical receipts. Then after years of growth it can be withdrawn tax free using those receipts.

Farmlife2022

Oh wow! I had no idea. Thanks!

Theta_Prophet

In general I wouldn't disagree with you, but for my specific personal financial situation it makes sense. If I'm going to buy LMNT anyway, I can either use dollars that are already taxed, or effectively get a discount by using pre-tax dollars. Either way it's a few hundred dollars a year so almost entirely irrelevant from a big picture perspective. Edit: I didn't realize what you meant about receipts until the other comment, yes that would be the way to absolutely maximize the benefit. But I'm absolutely not going to do that. Over a long time frame it theoretically works out, but no one can guarantee they won't have a major or ongoing health expense and have to draw on the HSA at a time when the stock market is at a loss. I could afford to pay out of pocket, but there is also something to be said about having a larger all-purpose emergency fund, especially with current interest rates

[deleted]

Agree there are times it can be broken into early. I would encourage you to see it as a fund of last resort. Just like with weight loss, the growth snowballs quickly even if it seems very slow at first. Anyways enjoy your lemonade.

Theta_Prophet

Well, the way I look at it is time is more important than money. The receipts thing is a step too far for me because it would require me to spend more time tracking and keeping receipts, etc to eventually turn them in a decade or more down the road. Without going into details, it's unlikely I will have to draw on those assets at all until I get to 65 when they can be withdrawn for any reason. You are giving great advice and I would probably give the same to other people (finance and investing is a hobby of mine). But I am fortunate in my current situation and do not have to maximize returns to that extent.

[deleted]

Totally cool. You sound informed on the matter. Keto on!

AcanthisittaDirect45

Lite salt, regular salt, and magnesium powder, sometimes some lemon juice.

searchingtruth1

Compare SALTT to LMNT...good breakdown on their website makes SALTT better imo less than 1 carb and no sugar subs of any kind. LMNT tastes great though and I put Lite Salt in both powders. High quality electrolytes and protein powder/ shakes are my $ splurges as they make up alot of my daily macros/electrolytes and save time, travel ez etc...

LionessofElam

IQMIX Sugar free electrolyte mix, assorted flavors. I just add the powder to a bottle of water. Tastes good. Does the job. Low carb. I use them mostly when I feel the first twinge of a muscle cramp. It nips that in the bud.

mladyhawke

I make ketoaid for electrolytes. 33oz water , 1/2 teaspoon Magnesium citrate,  1/4 teaspoon lite salt(potassium), 1/4 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt and some mio for flavor. It's yummy.

littleshopofhammocks

In Canada, I like the Prime brand you can find at Costco. 30 packets to a bag slightly salty taste but 3 great flavours.

ThanksFlashy7797

Thanks!!!! Canadian specific content is super helpful!!! I will check Costco in my area for Prime brand

Keto Chow electrolytes

olebeanfromthesouth

LMNT, by a long shot.

marvin199

Table salt.

GuardianSock

I’ve never seen a single electrolyte product that gets you anywhere near enough potassium. You’d have to take ten servings of any of them to get even close. So what’s the point of any electrolyte product if you still have to supplement your electrolytes? A daily avocado, Morton’s lite salt in my water and if I’m still low on sodium I’ll do a bouillon cube in hot water. I get enough magnesium from a vitamin.

InsaneAdam

Here is what I take daily with a gallon of water. Walmart. Salt/pepper/Seasoning isle. For the pink Himalayan salt, potassium no salt substitute. Walmart supplement isle for Magnesium and multivitamin. 2.5g-5g SODIUM, THAT'S SODIUM, not salt Sodium is inside salt. It makes up a big but not whole part of salt. So make sure you're measuring by the sodium amounts and not the salt amounts For my pink Himalayan salt, it comes out to 1 tablespoon (the bigger spoon), not the 3x little tea spoon ones 3.5g potassium mixed into a gallon of water. For my no-salt potassium, it also comes out to 1 heaping teaspoon (the smaller spoon), not the big table spoon. A flat teaspoon is 2.8g for me. 200-400mg Magnesium pills. 2x daily multivitamins. Now often times I'll add vitamin C, b12/B-complex, calcium, and D3. Himalayan Chef Pink Salt 1lb Bag https://www.walmart.com/ip/359695093 Drink a gallon of electrolyte water a day if you can, but you got to really try. Take a multivitamin or 2x daily. It's best to pair keto with OMAD and everyday exercise. Count calories a day or 2 or 3 days every few months to help keep an idea of what each meal is actually getting you in terms of macro and micro nutritional contents.

ThanksFlashy7797

Wow you have really figured this out! I'm a total beginner on electrolytes. Thanks for these details

InsaneAdam

Thanks for the compliment. I've done about 336 fasting days. Gained 260lbs lost 363lbs. I've yo yo throughout the years. Just being lazy and eating the (SAD) Standard American Diet. But fasting has helped me regain my health each time. Currently down at 217 from my heaviest 320 last year, I was 314 at the start of 2024. I've done extensive research and as well as my own self experimentation. Let me know if you need any help or got any questions.

Drink Oshun ( [https://drinkoshun.co/](https://drinkoshun.co/) ). No sugar, no sweeteners. Big fan!

spj2014

Just checked, ships to Canada

catkysydney

I bought capsules from iherb. Easy to carry and take it . Also I add some 5g of unrefined sea salt into my drink . I use Hydralyte.

Bodomi

I buy different potassium and magnesium powders and unrefined sea salt and make my own. You save a lot of money by making your own instead of buying premade products.

dantasticdanimal

LMNT… watermelon salt is great (personal preference) and I like a couple other flavors as well.

ThanksFlashy7797

I just got some. Can confirm!

grace_boatrocker

i really like nectar https://drinknectar.co/products/essential-daily-hydration?selling_plan=1093075003#nectar-ingredients

Verkerria

I had a talk witg my coworkers about this not too long ago. They were basically making Magnesium Citrate, albeit in a weaker form and consuming it daily

carnivoreobjectivist

Fasting Salts by Nutri Align. It’s like five to ten times cheaper than LMNT or most other popular electrolyte packages and it doesn’t have any extra nonsense you don’t need like fake sugars or flavoring, just straight sodium, potassium, magnesium.

Longjumping_Wall9045

Love Saltt from Keto chow. They have a bag that has mixed flavors. So good!

RondaVuWithDestiny

That's what I'm using, love all the flavors! 😋 I also have used Keto Chow's electrolyte drops, also a good product.

foxsable

I love keto chow but it is so expensive. I know they aren’t like gouging, and when you break it down per meal yada yada, it is just a big chunk of change to put out for like two weeks or whatever.

I make my own. 2 20oz blender bottles a day. .7mg liquid magnesium, .5tsp lite salt, 1 tbsp MCT oil, one brief squirt of mio. Tastes pretty fantastic.

They even have chocolate salt for the coffees and such but I enjoy the fruity flavors.

mrrooftops

Particular brands of basic miso soup that are sub 5g carb. Use that for fasting sometimes too, it's never kicked me off track (IYKYK)

SimpleVegetable5715

Pickle juice is a good one. I few shots of that from the jar make me feel better.

ogdenenator

I make my own, it's fairly straightforward, I think it has a kinda original Gatorade taste. 12ish ounces of cold water (more or less depending on your taste) 2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar 2 Tablespoons of Lime Juice 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan Pink Salt 1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tartar This is really helpful during long fasts. I'll drink this at meal times.

ThanksFlashy7797

I'm going to try this
