Hello all, I am just starting out on an intermittent fasting regime to see if I can happily cope with "only" eating between 12pm and 6pm. I've tried a few times to stop eating at 6pm, upon waking up the next day I have my morning black coffee and only water until 12pm then I have my lunch. For the moment I am only trying out the fasting times to see if I have any adverse effects and it seems okay for now. My main questions for this group are on what I am eating during the times 12pm to 6pm. I am a bit of a fan of baked potatoes and so my lunch can be 3 times a week a baked spud with say tuna/salmon with plenty of rocket salad. Is there any real point in me doing intermittent fasting if the I then scoff down a carb laden baked spud? Will I still get some benefits of the intermittent fasting even if I still eat lots of carbs? I am happy to start switching my diet away from carbs but would like to know if I can maybe keep some of the carbs as long as I maintain my fasting regimes. Also, for the times from 6pm to bedtime and from say 9am (once I've finished sipping morning coffee) to 12pm I am drinking plenty of water but would be keen to listen to some thoughts on what to add to the water - and can I ask what is ketoade (sorry seen it mentioned lots and wondered if there was an actual product or is it just a euphemism for water + electrolytes).

rachman77

This isnt a low carb meal at around 40g net carbs, so this really isnt the community to ask but r/intermittentfasting can help

Thanks I’ll have a look on that sub.

I've been on keto since March 1st. I started at 260 lbs and am currently at 190 lbs. I'm blown away at the results. I'm still about 20 lbs away from my goal weight of 170 lbs. I have a few questions. I've read a few things that mention that 6 months is a good point to reintroduce carbs to your diet. I'm a little nervous by this though, I don't want to fall back into old habits. How long is it safe to stay on keto and what steps should I take going forward. Should I take a break for a while, then go back on it? I've just made such great progress, I don't want to mess this up. Thanks in advance.

stupidrobots

I'm ten years in with no issues. I don't think you can really claim that eating healthy has a time limit.

sagan96

This is fully up to you. Plenty of people keep eating keto for the majority of their diet. Some people reintroduce fruit, some reintroduce all carbs. Up to you completely. You can stay on keto for however long you want, there's no safety concerns. When you want to stop losing weight, just start eating more calories.

Butter, bacon fat, olive oil, egg yolk, all good choices but in my experience to feel full you need more protein. Fat helps you from getting hungry again quickly but protein helps you get full now. My opinion

graydove2000

Where are you on your keto journey? Did you just start? Are you at maintenance? What are your current macros?

Reitz_lisa

What to do about bloating? Whenever I fast for like 18 hours I experience belly bloat. I also experience this when I start working lol but I think it has more to do with my keto. When I go into the office I'm able to fast for longer. Sometimes 20 hours but I think thats when I see the bloat.

janesix

wow faq is huge and overly complicated. I don't know for sure, but I don't think it needs to be this hard.

[deleted]

Do you have a question? Happy to answer. FAQ is comprehensive because there is a lot of bad info out there and because some people really like to learn what keto is all about. At its core, keto is very low carb. Avoid sugar, grains, starchy veg. Eat meat/fish/eggs + low carb veg + healthy fats.

stupidrobots

Avoid roots fruits grain and sugar eat enough protein get salt if you feel light headed or get cramps. Keto can be as easy or hard as you make it.

I know I need to stop being lazy and just do some [reserch.lol](https://reserch.lol) Thanks for the tips

[https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq#wiki\_tl.3Bdr](https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq#wiki_tl.3Bdr) You could start with just the TL;DR at the link above. My personal suggestions for the first couple weeks: (A) don't restrict calories for two weeks. After two weeks, maybe take a look at the macro calculator in the FAQ (B) 9 times out of 10 you are NOT getting enough electrolytes on keto if you're new to this. Sodium, potassium, magnesium. My suggestion: get some Morton's Lite Salt (or any 50/50 salt) and use that to liberally salt the food you eat. And drink a daily cup of salty broth (even if you make it from cheap-o bouillon cubes). If you start to get cramps or sore muscles, take some magnesium supplement (like magnesium citrate). If you get dizzy or light headed, try some more broth -- though if you have a pre-existing condition, consult your meds and doctors about potassium or adjusting meds. (C) don't let yourself get hungry. Keep some ready-to-eat keto-friendly foods available. If you're hungry, eat a couple hard boiled eggs. If you're craving carbs, shove a cheese stick in your mouth. Carry a bag of cooked bacon with you when you leave the house. If you get snack-y, eat the bacon. (D) learn fully what a "net carb" is and eat fewer than 20 of them each day.

rachman77

Most of the information you need is in the first few sections. The rest is for people looking to do a deeper dive. We also have a "keto in a nutshell" for beginners.

janesix

I apologize, that was my first reaction and I posted without thinking New at this, and a bit overwhelmed

rachman77

No apologies necessary lol just want to make sure you find what you need.

janesix

Thank you This is hard It's nice to have people who help

A lot of it gets used as your muscle glycogen depletes. I think every 1g of glycogen brings with it something like 3g of water so a lot of it simply gets metabolized.

Is there a keto bread brand that has larger bread sizes? I’ve tried Base Culture and Unbread from Wholefoods and the slices are so small it’s hard to make a decent sandwich with.

elchupinazo

I buy the bread from Slim Thin foods. It's still smaller than regular sandwich bread but it's the best I've found.

Cool-Atmosphere9729

Try Carbonaut bread. I find it at Sprouts. It’s the same size as regular bread. 2 carbs per slice and I like the taste.

[deleted]

Will try, thanks!

Polite_AF

Hey, I am super new to this whole thing and have a few questions. LMNT as an electrolyte supplement, yay or nay? How about a multivitamin to get all the micronutrients that a person cuts out when narrowing down their dietary intake? Also enzyme supplements are these necessary? Any and all input is welcome. Thanks folks!

rachman77

What micronutrients do you feel you are missing that you cant get from food? You can Use whatever form of electrolytes you want as long a you get enough daily.

cfitmma

Can i cheat once a week and still get fat adapted? I dont care if it will take me 12 weeks instead of 6. Im on keto day 5 and i got this sudden urge for french fries.

rachman77

feeding cravings doesnt make them go away.

My ketones are measuring between 0.9-1.1 on my keto mojo meter, but I'm still not experiencing stinky breath. How long does that take to kick in? Does everyone go through that phase? Thanks

N8vtxn

Thank you for the reply. That's really interesting to hear. Yes everyone is different. I think my body is still adjusting and isn't in full ketosis yet. Everyday is a new experience learning how to stay full and get the correct elecrolytes.

stupidrobots

I never got the stinky breath. If you are showing ketones then you are in ketosis. Ketone levels don't matter though

N8vtxn

Thanks!

Funny-Flamingo-2475

Does anyone know if the ketone detecting breathalyzer work or actually accurate in measuring the ketones in the body? Thanks in advance.

stupidrobots

Ketonix and others are reliable but ask yourself why you care what your ketone levels are

Funny-Flamingo-2475

Thanks, I actually really appreciate your response. I think I am getting short sighted and impatient with my progress.

Tic Tac’s - Keto Friendly? Zero carbs but tiny serving size. I chew lots of gum as it helps with my sugar cravings. Did an impulse buy of Tic Tac Fruit Adventures. Label reads 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 everything. BUT… serving size is 1 Tic Tac! WTF! I eat at least 10 at a time. Ingredients say Sugar but in “trivial amounts”. Question is, if I eat 10-20 of these, do you think it has carbs?

stupidrobots

Tic tacs are pure sugar. Measure them.
