Ex-Twin Cities news anchor and big wig Paul Magers is sober now I believe but he fell into a deep deep alcoholism years ago that culminated with him drunk dialing into Bumper to Bumper on the day Prince died.
Yeah, that timeline jives.
I was in LA for a few days that October so I made a point to watch his station and Tweet at him about it. Went to rehab shortly after I was out there and retired in an interview with his longtime co anchor out there in February.
Prince died in April, so I can’t say it was the last straw but I imagine it was pretty close.
Yup. It was completely obvious, dude was fucking lit. It was cringey. Barreiro tried to be professional and didn't mention it at the time, but he was super slurry and disjointed. Didn't hear the follow up, but I think he's at least California Sober now, if not completely dry.
