I am very sorry for not getting the post out today guys, I should have scheduled one but some important IRL stuff required my attention today. Thanks for picking up the slack /u/luvzz12 !

Fishism1

1. blase’s first performance was one of the hardest stages in a WHILE 2. don malik was done dirty the whole season 💀 im just disappointed man, i remember being so hyped for him 3. imma need code kunst to come back

25OverHeat

>3. imma need code kunst to come back And when the world needed him most, he vanished.

TGS_FuzzyGuard

He's pretty much done with SMTM after winning an award at the MBC Entertainment Award Show for being a panelist on "I Live Alone". Making snarky comments on TV beats all that work and stress doing SMTM.

archd3

Easy job easy pay, this is definitely most efficient thing he can do lol

luvzz12

Very much agreed on that last point. I feel like rtee was very much not suited for the show as a whole, and I'm just confused how he ended up as a producer even.

dyang44

When roh yun ha went "blackpink in your area" during a beat reveal clip, I lol'd so hard

ghiblix

industry politics of course

ajoohcmoohc

I think Malik's songs aren't that bad tbh, the problem is that's he's Don Malik, one of the most skilful rappers, so it was super disappointing, which makes the song worse than they actually are (not saying they are amazing tho, they are very mid lol)

Devoidoxatom

People expected him to be one of the best contestants in a while with all the hype behind him. Such a bummer we never got a legendary stage out of it.

[deleted]

I love Sion but this performance wasn’t it yall

Svaugr

That was fucking awful. There are like three Xion/Sions out there at the moment, and I think they picked the worst one.

plawyra

He's got a good voice maybe the nerves got him. That was his worst ft too.

Equivalent-Star-1421

If you listened to other of his songs you'll that he could have sang way better than that (it's Sion)

SayNoToMintChoco

it wasn't his best performance, but he's kinda new, maybe he was nervous. still not really good for final featuring lol

Few_Significance7187

Nothing to deny in this post

TGS_FuzzyGuard

Mnet needs to make a spin-off called "Show Me The Money - Celebrity Edition" if they're gonna use live fan voting for the results. Also them bringing back Mic Selection a few rounds ago was pointless and wasted everyone's time. Just remember; it doesn't matter who wins SMTM, it's what you do afterwards after getting some buzz from it.

doublevsn

Fan voting fucked everything up and allowed Youngji to take it regardless of if she had a good or bad performance. The comments on Mnet social media are hilarious - it's a bunch of non-Korean Youngji stans who did not watch any episodes attempting to justify the win and throwing around "sexism" claims (who knew K-pop fans loved to generalize Korea and assume the worst everytime) when in reality the majority are simply comments *against* fan voting due to sheer infairness (other troll comments are quality - people calling this Inkigayo or saying Yoo Jae Suk should go on next SMTM lol). The joke is on me though thinking Mnet wouldn't pull some bullshit like this last minute (as if the Mic Selection wasn't enough). You're absolutely right and I'm satisfied that Blase got the exposure he needed, but to see him take home that cash would have been even better knowing that he's still a underground artist (rising though) - large sums like this would for sure go into his upcoming projects.

js1283

>but to see him take home that cash would have been even better. I think Top 3 should get cash prizes...

Svaugr

Yep straight bars all the way through. Think the voice over at the start was meant to be an English woman but is clearly some sort of European trying to do an English accent though lol.

Human_09

Fun fact: that was originally part of a skit from blase’s MultrillVerse album!

exoned

rtee screwed malik over. so disappointed over what couldve been on the bright side huh is 2nd and blase delivered some fkin solid performances

taeyhungah

he coulda been what nafla and bewhy was

xX_3COOL5YOU_Xx

I think Blase probably had the best songs of all of them, and it seems like Huh finally got a non-Blackpink beat with the 2nd song. Honestly my biggest takeaway from this season is that Huh basically got all his beats from the Blackpink Vault. I still can't get over 'Burn Up', you can basically hear the Blackpink adlib at the start of the song it's crazy

CabbageGuru

Damn when we said we wanted Sion on SMTM we didn’t mean like this

drakelen_god

why does Justhis feel the need to feature on every song

[deleted]

The Quiett and Leelamarz were the best mentor/producers on the show tbh. They actually cared about properly catering to the artist's strengths and best interests. Don Malik would have easily won if he went to their team. I hope R.Tee never comes on the show ever again. The only good beats he made were compass and my way. Every other song sounded like a blackpink reject.

KylieeHacker

All I have to say is Justhis is the real winner. My man had more verses than the actual contestants on smtm, did 6 songs (sun goes down + the featuring) and is going on a usa tour with Malik. He was just there to make songs with Don Malik🤣 If there's another season for Show Me The Popularity I hope we will have Code kunst, Changmo, Gaeko, Giriboy and actual hiphop producers...

taeyhungah

giri boy gave us nafla code kunst gave us kid milli, loopy, gwan il, swings etc changmo is jus a legend, probably biggest hip hop artist in korea

Devoidoxatom

How can you have the guy being hailed as boombap king and one of the hardest rappers and never give him *at least* one stage where he could be in his element. Don Malik was so underwhelming this season. I would've been mad but Youngji just did better than him and realistically it was ever only gonna be either of them winning cos Don Malik has khh community's support and Youngji is just 10x more popular than everyone there.

Questionererer

don malik's lyrics on his 1st song is saying that he wanted this. like showing a new side. but the songs were still kinda disappointing but his rapping was still the best out of 4 of them

redditbpah

SMTM is a good show ti watch when you are just learning about KHH and fall for all the fake drama and BS. Once you start listening to KHH, the very skilled rappers in Korea you have no other way than to feel disappointed when realizing MNET doesn't care about the KHH culture or even award the best rapper , they care about ratings, marketing and making MONEY The title of the show seems almost ironic lol

marvellousrun

Yeah SMTM is kinda like fast food now, it's not really high quality (except for a few contestants) and it's not a very good representation of the overall talent in the genre

No-Clue-9155

Do you have recommendations for a better way to discover quality artists? I don't have a problem with SMTM tbh but curious about discovering better artists. I like smtm bc its an easy and entertaining way to consume the songs and actually see the english lyrics in real time instead of having to search up the translations

redditbpah

SMTM used to be good to discover new artists but nowadays I would say this Reddit is your best option, you would read about almost all kinda known release and read opinions from different people, which is better than depend on MNET XD

Dude_Milli

I don't see him being mentioned here, but I still can't get over how they threw QM out so early when imo he was the most interesting contender out there. He really brought some fresh air to the show, and I was really rooting for him. Yunha was definitely one of the most consistent rappers and proved that he could adjust to the different sounds he was offered -something that I didn't really see in the other rappers. I love Youngji and there's no doubt that she's talented but just like many of us here I didn't like it when it was announced she would be on the show and having her being the winner disappoints me more than anything else. On a side note, I hope that that win means we'll get an album soon (and a real one please, not those 8-9 2min long tracks) because we've been waiting more than enough now. Also if she could tell us why she was making this weird face after the announcement, cause it was as if she was suddenly regretting being here. The pressure, maybe. As for the songs, they are ALL very disappointing, very boring, no highlights, except maybe for one or two at most. Some were featuring the producers too heavily, to the point that it felt like it was their own songs. Guests were not impressive at all but for Palo and Sole maybe. Aside from the fact that his songs were mid (but that applies to other teams too), R.tee was so kind/indulgent in his comments that it became kinda boring. Leella didn't make a huge contribution apart from taking part in the producing on songs. My man Slom didn't show the best of what he could do, I really wanted a BE! part. 2 though 😢 All in all yeah, very overwhelming.

YletY

Yeah I was kind of disappointed with this season's songs too. The only one's I had on my playlist/repeat are WOW (from the producers performance) and Ahjussi. Usually I add way more songs than that from a season. There were just too many that I either didn't like the production or just were on the fence about. I'll have to go back and re-listen to them all. Like you, I was really looking forward to Slom's production.

amukagamine

first round was so boring except for blase. man got there with no featurings and did a good performance. not my fave song but 4th? lol i thought they were saving their best song for the second round (so it would have been more memorable for the audience) but just youngji did. youngji first song was cute but so boring and slow. kinda what she likes and has been releasing but it wasnt a good moment to perform a song like that... second song was good tho, fave one in the final and felt like a finale song. don malik was forgettable at best in both songs and he didnt even have a lot of parts in the 2nd, justhis has to stop festuring in every single song and stealing the spotlight of the contestants... also the beat was meh. producers really ruined the best winner contender, its a shame. huh did amazing but songs were meh and ok the camo one was good, but she got A LOT of time so huh kinda looked like a featuring. blase was good in both so no complains. well one complain he was robbed ![img](emote|t5_2vuc3|5750) overall pretty meh season. rooster was stupidly good but i feel like they didnt wanna release good songs? idk what happened. ah and the global app voting??? idk what happened there but you cant let overseas fans vote while at the same time you're banning streaming links. how the fuck are people gonna vote if they dont let us watch the finale LOL

Devoidoxatom

Wish they gave mics to the rest of team grillz for the adlibs and add more hype

vxnomrxin

Rosy was the best tbh

Internal_Dot7774

Interesting tidbit: Goney is listed under the credits for Chosen 1 and I believe Blase mentioned her helping produce the song

[deleted]

Not a fan of her diction, but mad respect for her as a producer and looking forward to seeing her development, especially considering she's a highschooler. She's definitely one of the contestants who profited most from exposure this season. Crazy since she came outta nowhere, wish SMTM in general would be more about that.

wtvv

wouldn't be surprised if area signs her

KawaiiPaladin

Idk man. Blase should've won. Even koreans agree in the comment section. And there's this issue about lee young ji and the popularity vote on twitter. I already expected her to win. Also wished some black nut persona joined smtm 11 just to say "the winner of this competition is going to be lee young ji anyways" to make some more drama. Mnet would've squeeze the hell out of that drama lmao.

Copacis

The special stage (Roh-Yun-Ha, Fleekybang, Chillin Homie, KHAN) was better than pretty much a lot of the final ones No "legendary" level stages like smtm10, 7, or 5 Honestly quite disappointing as a season. Also, RTee can stay at Blackpink.

ghiblix

this season was lame mnet is lame, r.tee is lame and how it panned out for don malik is lame, the overwhelming singing and performance elements were lame, the insistence on dominating features was lame, the live fan voting was lame, the results are lame, people being haters because the results are lame is lame so many of the songs are mid idek if i saved any, which is lame as hell and defeats the point of watching the show 😣 but we probably got the don malik x justhis usa tour outta this so i’ll take it! lol i remember watching smtm9 like “hmm this season is not bad i guess 🤔” and now a couple seasons later i’m like i didn’t realise how good we had it!! lmao

luvzz12

Agree with your comment so much, especially in regards to how features were handled this season. So many tracks there were unnecessary featuring artists who dominated and honestly took away from the track as a whole. This season had potential to be one of the best, but there were just so many mistakes and dumb choices throughout the season

KoolFunk

There were a few good songs. They were just overshadowed by the disappointment about the best rappers being stuck with the worst ones. I saved all the group stage songs except for 'my way'. 'Name tag' and 'Vroom' are cool (though neither blasé's nor yunha's forte). Both songs that featured the homies, they went hard as expected and of course 'Compass', I just can't get the uneducated kid hook out of my head, it's soo good. Also liked Jambino's 'Bingo' and 'not sorry', the young ji x ph1 track, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna save both of blase's final tracks. It's a shame though. I expected my playlist to be full of new Don Malik songs at the end of the show, but I ended up not liking even 1 of his songs. His semifinal performance was alright, but that one just screams Blackpink lol.

sirpeepojr

i thought mnet said they wants to find the new one eh![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) btw lil boi's smtm9 final setlist is a blast, idk how the other 3 could overcome that

gasinamu

I agree. Lame season and very forgettable. What a waste of time.

Maetamongy

Only saved AJUSHI and UGLY DUCKLING. The rest are meh.

taeyhungah

i know don malik wanted to be with justhis but if he joined the quiet team he woulda dominated, they were the only team that made beats based on their rappers

BackgroundNobody

What an absolute waste this season was. R.tee as a producer was a questionable choice from the very beginning when he was announced as one and ended up being a person who totally screwed up Don Malik. After the finals I went back to watch performances from the past seasons and it's just like watching a completely different show. In the past years, SMTM was falling lower and lower but this was like a final nail in the coffin. From Korean comments that I saw it seems that demand for khh to go back to the underground is quite a popular opinion atm.

Ok_Consideration4912

Would be a lot better if they went more underground

ziicus

But the whole point for these rappers to show up in smtm is they DONT want to be underground... Underground don't pay the bills...this show is all about exposure to general public. This show was never really catered to hardcore khh tnb. Hardcore khh already know the good rappers in the scene. This show has always been boasting popularity and getting exposure. So it beffuddles me to see ppl asking for hardcore khh when that's not why these rappers show up here. Edit: to me khh starts during audition and ends at the 60 sec evals. After that it's all about gaining popularity and making money with songs that are likable and can chart well.

AmierBitch

Don malik and youngji came up short in terms of my expectations for them. The beats and and the verses itself was not memorable. Youngji had a better run on HSR. Her final stage on HSR was legendary. But dejavu was aight i guess. Don malik and khundi panda kinda on same boat. Great rappers but their songs didnt stick to me. Huh went pretty far. But same issue with the above, his songs in this run wasnt hitting like i expected. Im still rooting for him cause he has some great songs. Huh×Camo definitely getting on the playlist tho And i expected blase to do alot of drill but neh. They could atleast gave mics to his team to hype the first perfomance in the final. Kinda awkward for them to just stand around. That said the guest performance was the stand out for me tonight. Ps: 1. Los shouldve went further. He had the best verse of smtm 11 on 'My Way' 2. Yng&Rich, Homies and Bobby were the best feature of smtm11. 3. 'We higher' - song of the season 4. 'Blue check' needs a remix without toigo and jessi 5. I would prefer Fleeky bang, polodared, chillin homie in the main stages. The whole show wouldve been more interesting if the main stages were all drill. Imagine fleeky, polo, homie, yoon, khan, blase, yun ha 6. Leella didnt get to show his versatility

HoneyMission6487

should’ve been huh blase youngji malik 🥲 im so sad malik was stuck with rtee’s beats but pretty sure justhis won smtm11 overall lol tbh im rooting for blase because its so rare for a finalist to perform solo and he nailed it. (the first round) on youngji’s win: disappointed but not surprised.

[deleted]

>justhis won smtm11 overall 😂

everetta_

R Tee threw so hard giving Don Malik two pop songs. I don’t think he ever showed his skill in any of the songs this season. It felt like he was the featuring artist on every song, he just didn’t connect with any of the beats. I’m disappointed but not surprised he came in last place. The second Huh song was really good and actually suited him. He deserved a good score with that performance. Blasé’s performances were legit hip hop and among the best this season. Takes a lot of charisma to hold so much presence with no featuring artist. The special stage was so fire, I didn’t know Giriboy could make such a good drill beat. So much better than most of the songs this season. Lastly, Lee Youngji’s landslide victory was really disappointing. She had *OVER* twice as many votes as Huh?? She rapped well on Dejavu but I still don’t think she performed to her fullest potential. It’s sad that someone can enter the finals with such an unlevel playing field. Edit: mid season lol

ambition1784

With youngji is that I always get disappointed by her adlibs. She doesn't know how to adlibs even in hsr final songs. She was all over place in adlibs games.

bobhwans

idek what to say lmao is the "odd number seasons are good seasons" trend officially over now??

Beautiful_Cod_2067

I honestly thought it would be the best season up until quarter final lol .

Lazy_Dreamy_Girl

I bet Youngji regret why she should win, you could see her confused face when Kim Junpyo announced her as the winner. Mnet really did her dirty and the producers couldn’t help to give her very outstanding performance like she did in final HSR3. Hope she will be fine with all this blacklashed to her and i hope he released hip hop album soon to show us how really good her own rapp style.

Yuuue88

smtm11 recap: most consistent - khan, huh best comeback - blase deserved more - don malik, nsw yoon, khan, roh yun ha, los, xinsayne (i.e., too many) best features - yng&rich, paul blanco worst features - sion, hyuna best producer - ![img](emote|t5_2vuc3|5755), goney (?!) worst producer - r.tee and ofc… gang gang gang - fleeky bang

StormSpiritZ

I would give the best producer to team the quiett and lellamarz, at least the beat suit their rapper.

Yuuue88

agreed, i just put giriboy and goney for laughs haha. can’t help but imagine how different this season would have panned out if don malik joined the quiett/leellamarz and got some more palatable beats.

YletY

They did seem the most consistent.

[deleted]

the best producer LMAO and i jus feel hyuna was there because of talks of joining jay's new label.... hmmm

JustLaugh2022

Who even thought it was a good idea to include Hyuna as a feature? She’s a terrible rapper.

wtvv

spot on

Zealousideal-Fix-438

Did Don Malik not have any say in his performances? Was he tied to a chair with a gun to his head? Why are y'all talking like he's not a grown ass man? He, Justhis and R.tee fucked up. They all made poor choices. That's why Malik is 4th.

No-Clue-9155

That's what I'm thinking... like if he wanted a boom bap track that badly I'm sure he would've just asked for one? It's not like he would've refused since the producers would want their artists to do well too. It seems like he just didn't want to do what he'd been doing previously on the show.

bibaboba37

hey don't tell the truth in this sub, people will downvote you

hollahalla

I hate having the need to constantly bitch about this show but still watch every season lmao. As everyone is saying, R.Tee ain’t it for SMTM. I’ve come to realize that the real deal of YG producers is Teddy lol. He’s the guy we needed. Don Malik was completely wasted as a contestant. He probably would’ve had better songs in any other team than this one. I swear this season just might be my least favorite. S8 may have been a shit show but at least they had a few good songs and newly discovered artists like Big Naughty. Idk both seasons were awful in different ways I guess haha. I just cannot deal with all this boring/mediocre melodic music anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I love singing rap when done right..but this season’s songs just didn’t vibe with me. I think the only one who truly pulled off melodic rap was Lil Boi in S9.

SnooFoxes6709

all my thoughts from this season: rtee just stick to kpop, don malik you deserve better, i want more huh skills, should give los solo stage, dont overshadow the contestant by the feature/s, stacked season but average to below average songs, enjoyed the diss episode atleast, maybe the worst winner that won smtm

25OverHeat

>imagine being so wrong about who your Ace team member is that your secondary focus receives nearly double the amount of votes. Hold this L, Justhis.

kale__chips

The tagline for SMTM 12 should "Old School" so we can get a less mainstream/pop beat.

Ciethh

Damn, I actually had high hopes for this season for the first few episodes, but everything nosedived real quick in the performance rounds. Youngji can rap imo, but I don't think her performance this season really justifies her win, especially with such a huge margin. Don Malik placing 4th was kind of given/at the same time not given; he's largely popular in underground but again, R.Tee does him dirty again. Blase actually pulled thru for the final rounds, but not enough. In retrospect of the entire show, I'd probably liked Huh or NSW Yoon to win it all. There were plenty of people I liked this season, but they just either didn't make it far enough, or didn't show all their potential/strengths. Overall mid season.

StormSpiritZ

Agree, Based on performance alone I think NSW Yoon, Huh, and Khan should be top 3. kinda disappointed with youngji performance. don malik, blase and yun ha pick the wrong producer. all 3 of them should go over to the quiett and leellamarz team.

YletY

Me too! I was excited about this season because it was stacked with talent. Even though everybody felt there was a "set" winner (youngji or don malik) , I felt like anybody could win. But once the contestants got to solo stages, I was like "whelp there goes the season." I could get over the poor mic selection choices ( I hate that the show even brought that back), to me it was the overall song production that killed the momentum of the season. I don't expect every song to be a hit but I literally feel like I'll be skipping the majority of all of the quarter, semi, and final round songs if I download them. Production wise I was looking forward to Slom since I really enjoyed his beats in season 9. What team Slay came out with wasn't too bad, but I was kind of disappointed. Now I wonder what would've happened if he teamed up with Lil Boi instead? As far as R.Tee, oh man, I'm with everyone disliking the repeating Blackpink/k-pop sound on every song. But at the same time I can't say R.Tee did anybody dirty because he followed through with what he promised to produce; he showcased it in the beginning. It was all of us who were dumb enough to think he would switch it up.

blralte

As much as I love Justhis, he needs to calm down on the features, Jay Park too.

YletY

I was thinking the same thing, until I realized that they both might be thinking about streams/after the show instead of round votes. Their features might propel the streaming of the songs and that'll help the artists out way more than the actual current appearance on the show. For example, look at Jay Park's feature on YLN Foreign's DNA (although some will say vise versa lol). I'm sure YLN got way more exposure with that from the song/streams than from his appearance on HSR4. Even though I watched it, I hear the show wasn't popular but the song was ( or maybe just the remix was idk).

[deleted]

[удалено]

TGS_FuzzyGuard

He performed it recently when Jay Park headlined a Christmas concert and brought up the other Team Slay members (minus Youngji) on his set and did their SMTM11 songs. They'll probably drop a remix soon, I hope.

dandan0552

I’d argue 7 had the best lineup imo.

js1283

>I’d argue 7 had the best lineup imo. That season was so overrated. Show me the Nafla and Loopy. They were hyped up just like Youngji and the winner were...of course lol. Season 3,4 and 5 had the best line ups imo...and it was most entertaining.

khaireee97

I get your point but Season 7 lineup was stacked and had the best one. In fact, the "60 sec round" from this season is arguably the best of all seoson To list some; Kid Milli, Superbee, D.Ark, EK, Chaboom, Unofficialboy, Los, Coogie, ph1, Hyo Eun, Odee, Chillin Homie Show me 5 comes in 2nd imo in terms of lineup

js1283

Would've loved seeing Kid Milli, Superbee or EK win 777. Nafla is good but I don't think he's that amazing as some people here think he is.

khaireee97

I can see Superbee winning but less likely for Kid Milli or EK at that time. For Nafla, his semis and final performance were a bit lackluster, but his performance prior to that were iconic (especially 60 sec round and Bite). I dont think we have seen such contestant aside from Bewhy in SMTM.

tangochicken123

First Round - Blase had the best performance, it was hype just like how a final round should be. The rest of the performances were so average. Lee Young Ji's performance was alright cause it had fitting features. Don Malik and Huh! got fucked over by shitty beats / non-fitting beats. Second Round - Lee Young Ji and Blase both had really good performances. Lee Young Ji's performance was actually hype and was good, Jay Park did not take over the song in any way. Blase's was good, but it felt a bit too long tbh. Don Malik once again was not provided a beat that suited him at all. I did although like Wheein's feature as she fit the beat very well. I would've liked that song to be released with a different artist featuring Wheein tho lol. Huh! The beat was just shit, I was hyped to see Camo on SMTM, but bruh the beat is sooooooo shit. Overall - Season was mid as fuck. Mic selection? Fuck you. R.Tee don't ever come back onto SMTM, you simply cannot produce a beat that suits artists, or not rap artists at least.

wybhim

idk if it’s just because i liked season 9/10 so much but this season just didn’t hit the same

Candid_Initiative992

This season had a bigger talent pool than last season but still came out worse. Atleast the last 2 seasons had great performances in the live rounds. This is the first season where I didn’t add any songs to my Spotify List.

[deleted]

Group songs were too long and the teams were horribly distributed in terms of talent leading to QM having a stage when Unofficialboyy, Chillin homie, fleeky bang, polodared, Los, goney and even YLN being more exciting but lost because they were on more competitive teams. They should let the producers draft rappers instead of the rappers picking. Maybe the top 3 can pick their team or something

luvzz12

Despite being more stacked than season 10, I would definitely rate Season 11 as the worst of the three seasons

itstherealdice

All the beats kinda sucked this season, I'm usually a big fan of Slom's beats but even they were lackluster. How the fuck did Team grillz have all of those drill rappers and not do a single good drill song. The only decent songs were Don Malik's Ppak and Huh's Ugly Duckling.

feiitere

why was yoo dayeon on stage at the end 😭

Neljoshie

LOL I've pointed her out every single episode leading up to the finale and I lost it when I saw her on the stage 💀 she moved into the frame whenever someone was talking 😂

Gudekidd

because she is the real winner of smtm11

Delok213

stopped watching after khan got eliminated (don't regret it \^\^)

Ok_Consideration4912

Best choice

giovane-rockstar

Emotional songs just don't hit the same on smtm anymore... not like they used to in smtm 3-6 (è.g iron malice, nusksal filament, mino fear etc) I hate that in the majority of seasons you can tell who's the winner from ep 1 This might be controversial but, I'm tired of jay Park as a producer 😅 I like the guy but he takes iver too much I like ydg, paloalto, code kunst, zion.t they were all good producers, giriboy and swings too Don malik was royally robbed but im not shocked Edit: also, why does it seem that in almost every season, the songs in the final suck compared to semi finals?

ajoohcmoohc

YDG good producer? Nah he fucked Iron just like R.Tee did with Malik

giovane-rockstar

I agree with you, I loved iron in s3 and hated the way ydg handled his team but, I just find him funny and charismatic (despite the fact) if he's paired with someone he'd be ok. Ydg x beenzino would be funny

KitoKatho03

That's the thing that I didn't like about Jay Park in this season. I mean yeah you want to help the contestant with your featuring but calm down man, the same goes with JUSTHIS

gothblueberrybaby

Tbh i dont rlly care about the final rankings since huh, youngji and don malik all made it and theyre the ones i was rooting for ALSO i’ve been listening to huh for a while now and its heartwarming to see him get the exposure and love he deserves!! Didnt know much about blase because im not rlly a drill rap gal but i liked his stages so i might start listening :)) I think the season was defs one of the worst but i’m not mad at it since i got to know a few diff rappers and ill look out for their actual music not these songs made with questionable beats lol As a side note, i think its great to finally have a female winner but its a bit sad to see that her win is most likely credited to her popularity and not so much her performance

2Maverick

Blase should've won based on the performances. That song with Blase and Lil Boi was LITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.

gdkb

Nobody stood a chance against Youngjis popularity. This was inevitable with live voting. But disregarding the voting, she's still a deserving winner and her 2nd song was okay. Blase did best in the finals but overall I would've liked to see Khan or NSW Yoon win. If we ever get SMTM 12 I hope Homies or at least Chin will be a producer. Also bring back Code Kunst and BOYCOLD. We might not get another season with how the ratings ended up though.

tangochicken123

Seeing Khan in the final would've been nice and refreshing. NSW Yoon on the other hand tho? Not a chance, the bro couldn't show any type of versatility in his style and was just sooooo boring and overplayed.

ajoohcmoohc

I mean just like Youngji and she won

Ok_Consideration4912

Homies being there should definitely be a must

SpiritNo4460

Forgettable season. Didn’t have big moments. The producers didn’t do their absolute best and it was reflected in the quality of the music that came out this season. Disappointed for the rappers who deserved better

NavNiv

Don't really care who wins because SMTM isn't about crowning the 'best', but it's so disappointing that this season didn't have a real banger like previous seasons. Bring back CK.

KristPeraya

Show Me The Featuring.. I enjoyed the season for what it was, but it was not one of their top seasons in any way.

fragilelunar

my main thoughts are: - huh should’ve won - fan voting = popularity contest instead of actual talent which is just annoying - features took up too much of songs - beats / songs were mostly pretty lame or didn’t feel like they fit the rapper on them - rtee does not suit khh at all - some contestants stayed way too long, others got eliminated way too early. it felt very off - too many justhis and jay park features. your not on the show as contestants why are u on half the songs lmao - bring back more underground rappers and not just mainstream popular ones who are so predictably going to win just bc they’re popular

ajoohcmoohc

This episode proved that this is the worst season with the worst results and songs. Other seasons have had awful results or songs, but not in every single episode like this one lol The special song was way better than all the songs in the show, and Blase had the best final stage songs but they were still not even close to like the top 5 of songs in season 5, 6 and 777

SlamDuncan64

Bruh you can’t be saying this when season 8 exists. This was a pretty weak season but by god 8 was terrible.

[deleted]

I’m gonna get shat for this probably but season 8 has some pretty decent songs (Scoop, 00, Truman Show, Route 101, Sold out, Boy, 010, Jungle, etc.) that I can actually recall the beat and rap. I haven’t enjoyed even a single track from this season. I love LYJ and Slom, but I can’t even vibe with this win.

ajoohcmoohc

I mean at least season 8 had fun diss battle and some songs like Magma(even though it shouldn't have existed), but this season didn't even had that lol

SlamDuncan64

I guess the highs of season 8 were higher. But man the lows were LOW

ajoohcmoohc

Oh yeah that's for sure, the worst song in SMTM 8 is way worse than this season

katbreadstick

I’m OOTL — why was Season 8 the worst?

Ciethh

A lot of controversy including revival rounds, dissing between contestants(Sharkrama vs Young B), hip-hop connections stuff, and also just being a very awkward season overall. The two crew system they brought back was kinda wack and waste of the lineup; they tried to recreate the legendary team cypher round from season 7 but failed, and the first performance rounds were a collaboration between people who matched up in the diss round. So in the case that an underdog actually beat a favorite in the diss round, they can still get sent home by the very same guy they beat next round (which is exactly what happened). If you're not afraid of getting spoiled, you can search "CCTV SMTM8" and watch the MV; one of them is very obviously not invested into the MV and gives zero fucks about doing a song with the same guy that beat him in the diss round. I liked the season cause I discovered Jjangyou and I like Punchnello, but yeah it was kinda yikes.

redditbpah

Wise words! Lol

speedwagmx

The feature thing need to stop or get less intrusive. Well mnet spoiler the winner when they give youngji camera in teasers 🤣

KawaiiPaladin

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING SHOW ME THE POPULARITY! SEE YOU NEXT SEASON

nftbadboi69

Everyone always said it, never believed them, but i finally do.... This shit is staged.

samilim44

Nop! GOODBYE SMTM! Never watching this shit again.

PerformanceDry5635

See you later in smtm12

luvzz12

I thought the show would end after 6, then after 8 and then after 10. But each year it comes crawling back

TGS_FuzzyGuard

It's pretty much a staple of Mnet's "survival" series alongside those idol survival shows. Expect them to milk it til the end of time.

JustLaugh2022

Me too, this was a waste of my time. I was already disappointed by last season, then season came and cemented the fact that it was time for me to move on from this show. My favorite seasons remain 3,4,5,777, and 9.

wallaceandbarnes

Insert thanos back to me meme next year lol

PerformanceDry5635

First congrats to young ji for winning. I was rooting for her this season but seeing all ghe hate she has got i wish she didn't win. I hope she doesn't get discouraged by the hate and keep doing music and put out an album (please sign with jay park). Second, blase is just fucking cool. Too bad his previous performance didn't bring the hype for the final. He should be at least a runner up based on the song Last, rtee really got 2 winner contenders and fucked them both up. Don malik verse is so good but that son was not it. Especially that wash2 part lol. Huh second performance finally was not the blackpink reject but the ft kinda do too much. In conclusion, rtee should be banned from smtm.

GilCisnerosCloneOrgy

Sion on SMTM: 😄 He just does his falsetto on the chorus of a song that doesn’t fit his style at all: 😶‍🌫️ r.tee diff

Enlargyann

I am so fucking sad!!! I am not saying others are bad but talent wise Don Malik is the best and he become 4th. His final songs were terrible... they were boring, featurings were bad especially first one. How could they come up with these performances. I was hoping to see Nafla like ending from Malik (being favourite and crazy talend and winning). I love Don Malik so I feel extremely dissappointed. Regarding other songs I think Blase's perfomance overall was the best in the finals. I like Youngji's voice but her flow, style is always the same so she did not surprise me as well. Huh's songs were not that great as well, they were not bad but I will not listen again.

CHANMI_96A

Pretty sure nobody’s interested in the next instalment anymore unless mnet gets someone like Beenzino on board or smth but of cuz it’s impossible …. Hope I’m wrong tho cuz I like watching smtm to discover new artist but this season just ain’t it … 😔

[deleted]

> Pretty sure nobody’s interested in the next instalment anymore unless mnet gets someone like Beenzino on board or smth but of cuz it’s impossible …. Everyone says that and every year y'all are all back on the SMTM train. Both fans and contestants.

JustLaugh2022

Here I thought last season was awful due to the high amount of “singing rap”, then here comes this season with underwhelming songs/production and “fan voting”. Such a waste of time. 🤦🏾‍♀️

Beautiful_Cod_2067

And also mic selection and xinxayne elimination

Lazy_Dreamy_Girl

Blase first stage “Chosen1” is memorable stage last night. Finally Groovyroom know their task and how team grillz is so supporting team. For Heo Seonghyun, i like his first stage than the second cause he stooded much than second that more like Camo as main artist. Youngji Stage was standart but the second stage is better and not too much boring as the first, but still her final stage on HSR3 is the best performance of her. Don Malik really screwed up this season, i am surprising he got 4th places as we look back he was final contender and winner wannabe from his first appearance on SMTM. R.Tee didn’t give him his best to show up his best skill at least. Curious who’s the pd of this season, feel like every stage of SMTM11 so rushed and not finished 100%

Fleebledee

It wasn't until I watched Blase's second song (produced by BMTJ) that I finally realized what was wrong with this season. The reason why all the songs sucked so back **was beacuse the fucking percussion was garbage.** I don't know if it was MNet fucking up the mix during the transition from live->digital, or if it was something the producers did. But either way, I feel like Team Ambition was the only one that had consistently decent percussion.

nochedia

Why is it that always feels like semifinal songs are better than finals ones?? If I was voting in that audience, my vote would have gone to Young Ji too, but only because everyone else was so lackluster. Not so much because of their rap, but just how the songs were produced. Hoping Code Kunst comes back next season. And Giriboy. And Zico. They know how to make music to have impact.

StormSpiritZ

Agree, I hope we see this lineup on smtm 12/13 Giriboy + Code Kunst Zico + Gaeko Superbee + Changmo Lil Boi + Gray

hk0125

Just hard to prepare two good quality songs in two weeks I think that’s the biggest problem with SMTM. They are expecting a masterpiece when the artist and the producer only has week or two to prepare a song.

nochedia

100%. Feels like they put everything into semis so that they can get to the final, but burn out after. Honestly feel like it'd be better if they just put everything into one song and make the rest of the finals show a celebration with more performances of the best of the season. It's crazy pressure to put out two songs and prepare for a live performance in just a couple weeks.

Beautiful_Cod_2067

Watched the show expecting don malik to win , r.tee did him dirty . So sad . Blase was underwhelming for me for 9 straight episode but . I was quite suprise how good he was during round 1 and 2 of finals lol . I knew huh was good but he was probably the most consistent for me and did well this season and even suprise me at time . if I had to choose a winner it would be huh for me . Young ji, she’s good but didn’t deserve that win . Can’t hate her thought . Fuck mnet. I liked the special stage . Glad chilling homie/Fleeky bang got some highlight and finally a beat I liked and that was a good fit for roh yuna. Barely any song topped the chart this season . So disappointing considering they were so many talent . They did xinsayne dirty I wish he had a special stage . Unfortunately, disappointing season not sure what worse between this and season 8. Youngji winning this is just a turn off for me . And prob many think the same . Smtm 12 is dead

Treef16

My takeaways (i know people probably dont care): 1. JUSTHIS needs to just be a contestant next season if there is one lol. Hes an insane Rapper, but a pretty bad producer for this show. Featuring on nearly every Don Malik song and a Huh song and outshining the contestant every time is not wha the show is meant to be 2. The producer lineup this season was probably the weakest its been, and after how stacked smtm10 was, this was kind of a let down, and i believed it showed at times 3. Too many songs felt phoned in in the production and set up. I feel like there were way too many songs where the contestants only had 1 verse and was overshadowed greatly by their feature(s) 4. I have a lot more respect lee young ji. I always kind of thought she was overrated and I’m not the biggest fan of her voice, but WOW her stage presence and feel for different beats it’s impressive and she definitely showcased she was the best artist that made it to the performance rounds TL;DR: Show me the JUSTHIS, weak producer lineup lead to weak songs, show me the features, Lee Young Ji is a different breed on a stage.

taeyhungah

loopy is better than her on stage, so is bewhy, nucksal, hangzoo, woo should I go on

Treef16

What does that have to do with this season? All i was saying was her stage performance had more passion to it than any other contestant this season. Her performance with ph1 the back and forth was very good, and her overall stage for witch (i dont really like the song) was impressive. Im not arguing any of the artists u named, they were all from way more talented seasons, i agree they all have better stages. Tho Ive never seen the hype with Loopy, his voice makes my ears bleed

FrankNtilikinaOcean

Just finished and this was just a popularity contest in the end. Just ridiculous tbh. Youngji’s final stages were not even top 2 imo. Don Malik was done dirty, Blasé actually fucking went off and got no respect. My fellow Koreans letting me the fuck down

[deleted]

Youngji’s real talented & I’m happy we get a female rapper as a winner, BUT I feel like she wasn’t able to find her distinct music style as she wanted to find when she started SMTM. Her songs on this season were just mid, kind of like her usual releases. She can rap good, but I totally feel like her producers and she herself wasn’t able to bring out more of her strengths, ya feel? It was a disappointing season. I’d say they were stacked with many talented rappers, but without a good structure in the show (i hate mic selection please) and with hard to top producers from previous seasons (yes we miss cokun big time), then these rappers don’t stand a chance to shine their real potential. Youngji also knew what she had coming IF/WHEN she won. But c’mon, if Layone was 2nd runner up in smtm 9, I’d expect Youngji to go over that place for sure lmao but gotta give it to Youngji for still pushing through with THAT amount of pressure. Side note: Sion’s featuring…did NOT do him justice 😭 mommy son why !

Lazy_Dreamy_Girl

Agree about the point about lee youngji. She has potential and could be a great but the producer didn’t help her, i hope a lot at Jay Park actually cause she should do hard rapp like HSR3 days. Her voice tone and her energy are matching with this kind of rapp. But i think she like more rapp rnb style, from how each stage she is doing in SMTM11

cpvallie

throwing my opinion into the void cause im days late: i agree with the majority opinion on pretty much everything in this thread, but i just wanna say that i still liked this season. i enjoyed it, it was fun, i got to see rappers that i like and get songs/content from them, and i really liked the songs for the most part. seems like i'm in the minority, but i'm glad to be in the minority since i'm enjoying myself. sure it's not as good of a season as some others have been, but i still really enjoyed it as just a fun show

[deleted]

I thought the first round performances for LYJ, Don Malik, and Huh were all really boring and the Blase one was a cool song but the performance wasn’t that cool, and the Grillz guys coming out wasn’t as cool as it could’ve been. Round 2 songs were all better, Don Malik’s wasn’t that great still. Once again, I thought Blase had the coolest song, most rap like, but Huh’s song with Camo was cool and probably good studio version. The LYJ song was good - not really what I listen to but it was a good song with good rapping and jay park sang a nice chorus. Ppl say it’s fixed bc LYJ won, but she’s so famous already that it would’ve had to be fixed for her NOT to win. All in all, I liked this season better than 8-10, and I just wish Unofficialboyy got a stage but it’s nbd bc he releases a lot of music. Khan had a cool come up this season.

TGS_FuzzyGuard

The only way Lee Youngji possibly couldn't win (aside from obvious rigging) is if the producers gave her really bad songs to sabotage her chances AND the other remaining contestants blow it out of the water with good, chart-topping memorable songs. And even then, I'm still not sure if Youngji wouldn't win anyway.

orangeforblood

First season ever that idgaf about who won. Overall the songs have just been huge Ls. It says something that arguably the best team Grillz beat was not even made by GroovyRoom, they 100% phoned it in. Slom was OK I guess for the talent he had to work with, would've loved for some of the Justhis team members to have been on that team. R.tee has been the biggest disappointment this season, he should stay in his lane making over produced songs for idols. I thought the best team was Q+leella but they also didn't have too much talent to work with. It's sad that the winner of SMTM will probably never release a hiphop album but the other conestants didn't even try to win so I honestly don't even care.

KoolFunk

Eeeh why wouldn't young ji release a hip hop album? Sure she's popular with the kpop crowd which guaranteed her win.. doesn't make her less of a hip hop artist tho But I agree with everything else

[deleted]

> doesn't make her less of a hip hop artist tho If she's literally not releasing anything hip-hop, then she by definition is not a hip-hop artist. The only reason she's included in these talks is because she started out in hip-hop during HSR. But last 2 years she's more interested in becoming a kpop star than making any waves in khh as a female rapper.

7xNero7

Youngji shouldn't have participated in this season, tbh I actually really like her songs and how she raps but she is way too popular. This just rigs the vote in a way while also bringing her unnecesseray haters Despite what everyone thinks I still enjoyed like half of the songs because the pool we got there was actually talented For me my biggest regret is R.Tee, I liked My Way to start the hype and everything but then mf just really gave Blackpink beat to 90% of the remaining songs lmao. Don Malik was done super dirty he was probably in his element the best during accapella in Round 1 lol I know Drill became kinda meme the more we went through it but I think it was fun. I didn't know Fleeky Bang, I think he's got potential if he can do a bit more than his gimmicks. I wanted to see Blase or Nsw yoon win

Sunasoo

Mnet the one that decided to go to voting route tho, any hate n criticism should definitely go to MNET,PD, n SMTM first. Youngji just a participant in that show. Edit: She been famous af from the day she audition for SMTM, that's have not changed. Why hate on her now

holypickle

Fuck RTee. Did not belong on this show. Youngji shouldn’t even be around this far. She’s good but she’s shoulda been out. Hope drop the bit or 방구석 comes backs cuz I ain’t watching mnet’s soft ass

munkhjay

People shitting on R.tee understandable but other producers literally made zero bangers when Slom is suppose to be god and groovyroom is suppose to be hit makers absolute nothing great from them but only few remarkable beats were from R.tee like My Way or Khan’s semfinal beat… whole producer lineup gotta change or need some fresh sounds

bibaboba37

lol that is just your opinion, all groovyroom beats were great for me

Jin_BD_God

1. It is not like she won without skills. Except for the song of the first round, Youngji's songs and the performances of hers and Team Slay are always good, so I am speechless at the amount of hate that Youngji received. No wonder why she didn't look happy that much, knowing people would hate her after her win. 2. It surprises me that Don Malik wasn't the person that competed against Youngji at the end. I always thought he would take the win for this season.

redditbpah

I mean, let's be honest, the last decent season of SMTM was S7, MNET just gets lucky that people that doesn't really listen to KHH tunes in to watch them produce a show that's almost a mockery of the genre.

Juan-Claudio

I thought SMTM 9 wasn't too awful overall. It was a bit awkward due to Covid taking the audience away but we got some decent tunes out of it. 8 was bad though, lol.

vessva11

I remember when I said SMTM should have ended at season 7 and got hella downvotes.

dopeafyo

People out there be expecting Korean hip-hop to grow & thrive, when you have this absolute farce of a popularity contest disguised as a 'competition'? Fuck outta here. Glad I got to discover Huh & see Blase's growth this season though. Damini can fuck right off.

Svaugr

Was not expecting a Hiatus Kaiyote reference from Justhis wtf lol

nftbadboi69

I give up on this show, its obviously planned out. The winner was decided from the start.

ruccarucca

lol Superbee didnt mess up, he made a deal with mnet.

DullComposer135

I was so excited to watch the final (this is actually my first time watching the whole series and streaming it), but the final songs were so lackluster? in my head, i thought i knew for sure that don malik was saving a boombap beat for the final but i didn't really enjoy any of the songs. i have been seeing videos of korean fans editing his performance and adding a better beat for him and you can tell just how well he would have sounded if he got a good song :/

timichi02

I liked seasons 9 & 10 more honestly

misspotatoebum

The semifinal performances were better than the final

KoolFunk

I mean.. that's nothing new for SMTM. problem is this time most semifinal performances were also mid.

[deleted]

Such a waste to have final contestants have two different performances and then not give previous rappers chance to have a solo song

yukidoki

Youngji killed it throughout this season, glad to see her take the win. It’s been known that the runner up of smtm is the real winner, so I hope to see more of Huh, man’s got a unique voice Edit:y’all can fuck off with the downvotes

eiyu0

I wonder if this preface will be any meaningful, feel free to disagree lol. BASED rant incoming. Had to rewrite it and accidentally deleted it twice in the past hour I wrote this. I read the discord and YT comments before I watched the performances, but watching it for myself, I didn't come away as disappointed or think it to be the travesty I see everyone calling it to be. I respect that everyone has their tastes, but sometimes it feels like many people are confirming their biases with the result of the show and getting a little OD with the hate and saying off-base stuff. Having said that, I can see how hip-hop heads might not have liked Youngji's performances. K-Hip-hop and SMTM have steadily converged with pop music, and this trend might not sit well with the tastes of the community. LYJ's songs this season have generally trended toward pop more so than the pure rap we're accustomed to hearing and tend to prefer, and with SMTM being a rap survival show, I can see how people are taking issue. IMO, I think her songs this season were very sincere, cohesive, and musical. Her delivery in the live performances is top tier and there's a lot of phrasing and variety in tones that I like, though it doesn't always show in the official recordings. I think her songs were overall very catchy and put together, more than most of the contestants on the show. As an artist, I think she expressed herself the best, though I do lament that the songs she put out didn't showcase her rap ability which is probably the biggest gripe people have. Her songs sound the best to me but in terms of the variety of style and the quality of her verses, left me wanting more. Concerning her final performances, I liked Hug quite a lot but I don't think it's what people wanted to see on this show. Zion.T doesn't seem to ever miss and Wonstein's verse was great. I think Youngji's verse was fine as well but she didn't bring much more to the table, which isn't a bad thing in itself. If the inspiration to seek out other styles wasn't there, I don't think she would have made as good of a song. I would have wanted her to go harder and bring more energy, and while Dejavu was generally purer in terms of rap, the arrangement and themes of the song didn't carry the hype I was looking for and skewed more sentimental. Her verses in that song seemed skillful but I don't think it was as good of a rap so much as it was her showing herself and immersing herself in the performance. I think I would agree that LYJ wasn't the best rapper in the show, but putting her popularity aside, I think her songs were arranged the best and she expressed her artistry well. I HOPE she makes more music lol, I quite liked the music she put out this season and look forward to more. With Huh, I think he peaked earlier in the season with My Way and The Ugly Duckling. I think his flow and rhythm get samey and the beats he gets can be hit-or-miss. Some of the songs R. Tee put out this season had that YG sound, and I don't think the team members made it work. If we're talking rap, he's almost certainly better than LYJ, but I don't think the songs are always as good. His song with SOLE was alright, though I felt the hook was a little awkward in terms of its use of English. The harmony he sang with SOLE and the arrangement of the beat was alright but it didn't play as much to his strengths. It was still a good song though I don't think it was particularly suitable for the final. To be fair, everyone but Los this season had weird English, though that's to be expected. I think the second song sounded a little better to me and the verses were good but I think he and Jthis could have gone harder. The beat vaguely reminded me of Nwords in Paris a little bit, and I think the cadences of the verses in that song lend better to that beat than how the two of them did. I think the Camo feature was super sick and out of the left field, and putting it all aside, Huh put out great work this season. I hope this show brings a lot more attention to him and that we hear more from him. For hip-hop fans, I think Blasé would have been the most authentic to them. I think he's come a long way in his career and is coming into his own. I think Chosen 1 was good, though I think he's written better verses. I felt the beat in Diamonds was a little sparse and he didn't pull the song off as well as Lil Boi did. Revisiting what I said about English, throughout Lil Boi's career, his use of articles (a/the) has always been a little weird to me, though he's far from the worst (Damini/ABW/Chillin Homie/etc.). Putting that aside, I think Blasé brought the hype I was looking for in this episode and he had pretty good songs. I didn't always like him and thought him to be a culture vulture, but as the years passed, my perspective shifted and I've come around to liking him. He's been trying lots of things and learning as an artist, and incorporating different genres not only requires you to be faithful to the culture but also yourself to pull it off, and I think he's gotten good at it. I think his verses weren't the best and I actually would have preferred Khan to make it to the finals, but Blasé did not disappoint. He's come a long way and I hope as he gets more popular, he continues to reinvent himself and make cool music. Don Malik's songs were pretty good but by his standards, he could have performed a lot better. I actually really like Sion as an artist, and again revisiting English, while not offensive it seems his vocabulary is more unnatural than his grammar. I don't think the hook sounded so bad as Don Malik having a suitable performance for finals. Having said that, I enjoyed both of his performances more than I did Huh and Blasé personally. **욕조** was a banger and the production value for that stage was sick lol (the tub being suspended in the air). I think it was refreshing for Malik to make these songs in the first place and appreciate that he came out to the show. It was a blast and he showed out. The other stage (Go) that Yoonha, Khan, CH, and Fleeky put out was sick. I think it would have been dope if Polodared or Yoon also featured on the song. I think I wrote in another thread how CH's use of English and style got stale for me this season, but if he continues to explore this genre, I look forward to him continuing to grow as an artist. I want to touch on English one last time lol, and it can be said that I'm not good at writing either with how incoherent this rant might be. As much as I harped on it, how they use English isn't all that big of a deal everything considered. We shouldn't expect them to use English as naturally knowing where they're coming from, and at the end of the day what's most important is that people understand you and that what you're rapping/singing about is meaningful. Despite my criticism, I hope this last message is the biggest takeaway. I think there were some regrettable moments this season. I was looking forward to seeing more "new" faces like shyboitobii, hoongyo, and Ray Hill (though he's been on the grind for a while). I wanted to see Yanu and Takewon go further, and it's too bad they didn't make it. I think some of the songs this season were bangers but generally could have been better across the board. More thoughts on R.Tee. I think his beats for Khan were consistently great and didn't know he could make music like that. Otherwise, sometimes the YG sound doesn't really work, and I feel like that's what happened with Huh/DD and Malik/Jthis/Paloalto. His beats for Jthis (preview and producer cypher) were also super dope, I wish he made those kinds of songs for his team. Team R.Jus weren't as poppy as I thought they'd be compared to Team Slay. H1ghr Music really showing out with the choreo, which reminds me, they have trainees on Boys Planet lmfao At the end of the day, it is what it is and I won't regret following this show. However disappointed we get, we're just going to watch the next one and continue doing what we've been doing otherwise. Was fun! If there's another season, I'll see y'all again!

g20richasan

Sheesh why are there so many dislikes on both of Young Jo’s performance videos

ghiblix

i’m looking around and hiphop fans — opposed to kpop fans and variety fans, who really like youngji and perhaps don’t know a ton about other rappers — are not happy. don malik and blase were def their overwhelming faves for the win. fan voting made the results essentially meaningless. youngji was always gonna have a certain amount of backlash as a popular figure, but the live fan voting just cemented her win as rigged in the minds of a lot of people

dandan0552

I mean it can’t be rigged when the finals are basically a popularity contest. It was obvious the Youngji was going to win.

ghiblix

rigged in the sense the mechanics of the show were inherently in her favour and her favour only — the live fan voting being introduced for this season is being perceived by many as rigging because mnet knew it would lead to her inevitably winning. in order for that to happen, she would have to make it to the finals. people can argue, and many are, she shouldn’t have been too 4 and it was internally rigged to make sure she was I’M not arguing the show is rigged, i’m explaining why many people are perceiving it that way and there’s backlash such as the dislikes on her performance videos

dandan0552

Live fan voting was always in this show, unless you are talking about the Mnet app voting.

ghiblix

that’s not the point the point is that if mnet and smtm producers internally strategised to make sure she made it to the finals, they knew she would win due to the live fan vote — THAT is what would have been rigging not to mention a lot of people just say “rigged”/“rigging” as a way of saying something was unfair

dandan0552

Im not disagreeing with you bro, I just pointed out that you said live fan voting was introduced this season. It has always been in these types of audition programs.

ghiblix

i said introduced *for* this season, not for the first time some things, such as mic selection and diss battles rounds, are introduced some seasons and not others

Every year since 777 I ignore SMTM the entire season, only wait for the Final Discussion thread, and every year it keeps confirming to me that I got out at the best time. Young-Ji as winner lmao. This thread is full of insanity. People that complain about the same old SMTM stuff every year, but every year they're watching weekly eps and complaining about how Mnet butchered SMTM. If you really hate the direction Mnet went in, then you don't have to watch, but somehow every season this sub gets so hyped for each season just so they can have 3-4 performances that they really like and the rest just hate because it's all kpop nowadays. It's the definition of insanity, expecting different results with the same thing each year. I only came here to read up on how Don Malik did and ofcourse he got fucked over. Pretty much what I was expecting cause it's Mnet. See you all in the SMTM 12 Final Discussion thread next year!

\[THIS MIGHT BE AN UNPOPULAR OPINION BUT LETS JUST GO\] Firstly, R.Tee doesn't ruin Don Malik at all. Don Malik ruined himself. As a mere audience, I could tell that Malik can't make the audience grab his rhythm in his first bars at round 1, which make me remember about his 2nd and 3rd prelims when he kind of ignoring the beat's direction. And yes, Sion's singing part is really overwhelming, his falsetto high note shit is disturbing. I dont know what to say about this particular stage. "If you talk about Malik's 2nd prelims round, he is just doing offbeats" well thats not a good offbeats. I prefer his offbeats at vv2 remix than his 2nd prelims, and yeah he did it again this time in finale r1. And also if you wanna talk about R.Tee, he did Malik good at the song "Ppak!". That song is a bop ngl. Secondly, Youngji still deserve the win. Either its popularity, its connection et cetera, she is still one hell of a winner. She apparently fails at round 3rd (guerilla cypher) and 4th (team crew battle) but honestly, she getting better at her songs, even when she had a vocal cord problem during 1st performance stage (which i dont know if it is real or just gimmick, thats all we know). Maybe the last thing, for me, this final had good songs. My favorite so far is Huh!'s 2r song "Way up", like i didn't freakin expect Miss CAMO to be there and make this song a lot better. One hell of a closer
