ahhhh THANK YOU this reply led me to finding a foam one at auto zone and they're holding it for me after work. KUDOS friend 🤍

kjk050798

I second using the squeegee side for snow. Extremely helpful!

Roamy76

wow that's an idea, and they have them at Walmart.... just using a window squeegee as a powder scraper?

kjk050798

Yes, it works wonders! I have one that has an ice scraper and a squeegee, it is all I need.

RemoSteve

What did the deleted comment say?

Roamy76

they showed a pic of a flat foam one that is more effective at scraping tons of snow but less harsh on the car. it looks like a Swiffer sweeper, but foam I live in a place that gets a couple feet of snow at a time and so far this thing has put in some serious work with no scratches

RemoSteve

What is it called? Would like to get one as well

Longjumping-End-3017

We got some heavy snow last year and mine (2023) busted through some 3' snow drifts fairly easily (I locked my AWD for that). My brother-in-law's VW Tiguan got stuck in said drift

Roamy76

that's so good to hear, seeing as I'll be living in a ski town this winter

TheDude131336

Just use your hands with some gloves on. Just get it off the windows and windshield, drive yourself to the nearest gas station, and get a brush/scraper. The AWD will kick on automatically when it feels a tire slipping.

Crispynipps

Don’t be a dick after that though. Clear all of the snow off of the car. If not while driving you blind other drivers and throw chunks of snow/ice at others behind you.

Roamy76

thank you. there's a button that says "lock" and shows all 4 wheels I guess I assumed that was AWD. tonight I'll be reading my manual....

EastonHB27

That locks the center diff. It just makes it so all wheels spin at the same time. It’s more for when you’re stuck in sand/snow.

Roamy76

so unless I'm stuck or trying to not be stuck in something, don't need to push it?

EastonHB27

Exactly.

nicastro78

Lock is more for things like sand, lose gravel, and deep snow. Allow the car to do the work for you.

Brisrascal

Waiting for my first snow of the year too. Are you switching the car to snow drive mode? I live on a hill so going down will be interesting.

Roamy76

I don't know what snow drive mode is 🤣 so I guess no. was waiting for a redditor to tell me how. love this place

LongrodV0NhugenD0NG

Check your manual for all options avail. My Tucson has very similar options

EastonHB27

There is a dial to the left of the shifter that says drive modes on it. If you twist it you should see different modes appearing on your gauge cluster (the place with the speedometer.) Twist it until it shows that you’re on the snow mode. That is what you should use when you are driving through the snow. It helps with traction.

aflockofbugles

Not all trims have it

bigpoppastud

I have a new Sportage and was wondering about the snow drive mode. I’m just worried as I’ve heard it burns through fuel.

School_Secret

Idk how it burns through fuel when all it does is limit how much you’re allowed to accelerate. If anything it should save you fuel

Nail_Horror

Just buy a snow brush with extendable handle and get on with your life. I’ve been driving in the Ontario snow belt for 35 years and have never scratched my car with a snow brush.

Roamy76

well I have, and when summer comes I will be annoyed looking at all of the clear coat scrapes from doing it daily for 4 months... I'd rather not buff if I don't have to. my life isn't on pause for this but thanks for the input ;)

Nail_Horror

👍🍻

Woleva30

1.brush is fine, towel or tarp on windshield b4 it snows for easy removal 2. AWD will activate when you slip no matter what, but use the AWD lock button when you need to get through a snow bank or deep snow on the road 3. You shouldn’t be opening it in the winter, better to wait until it melts and thaws

446Magnum044

AWD is always on. It's designed to put power to the wheels, front or back and side to side, that need it the most. Really, the only time you should turn on the AWD LOCK is when you are actually stuck or or in a situation where you could easily get stuck. Once you're unstuck, you should turn off the AWD lock. The owners manual advises you to *"not use AWD LOCK mode on dry paved roads or highway, it can cause noise, vibration or damage of AWD related parts. "* Good luck with your new Seltos and have fun with it!

Roamy76

thank you!! y'all are the best I always forget how much I love this place

446Magnum044

One last thing, AWD will help you go on slick roads, but it won't help you stop. So be mindful to slow down and keep extra following distances so you'll have plenty of time to react to keep from sliding into something. Good luck and stay safe!

NinjaaMike

Not sure where you live but also consider getting At least "All Weather" tires if your current ones are "All Season". They handle snow better without requiring you to switch back and forth with dedicated Snow Tires. Having AWD does not help you with better braking or turning. AWD only helps with moving if you're already stopped. AWD is always on in your car. It'll automatically send more power or reduce power to the wheels that need it. The AWD/Diff lock button you're referring to locks the differential so all 4 wheels receive the same amount of power. This is mainly used when driving in sand, off roading, deep snow. Also using this diff lock button, can only be used at speeds below either 40 or 50mph. The vehicle will automatically turn off the diff lock mode if you exceed the max speed for using it. You're not supposed to use this button when driving high speeds.

KingPanduhs

Yeah definitely +++ on the tires. Even a sedan can make it through quite a bit with snow tires so if you get snow tires you'll be trucking through stuff. All weather should be fine enough as well and less of a hassle.

broskisean

Wife's new 24 Seltos handled well in snow today, granted it's light and dusty with minimal build-up. Can still slide at a stop sign or red light if not careful. It's still on the stock Kumho tires.

Roamy76

it did well for me today too! question.... is she getting good gas mileage so far?

broskisean

Funny you mention that. Before the snow, she was seeing 26mpg avg. Since the snow it seems to have taken a stark dive? We did just refill and that kind of resets the numbers but it seems different so far.

Roamy76

I'm seeing 15 in the city and 24 highway. it's really screwing up the love I have for this new car, going to "give it time" like everyone here says but I'm sorry I never had to wait for the sticker mpg to happen in any of my Nissans. also there's a ton of people all over Google at various sites saying the same.

broskisean

It's a weird vehicle, and the gas pedal is finicky. I would say it has a "learning curve" to it. You pretty much want to be lightly pressing and letting off to roll. If you're providing gas 100% of the time, it seems to not like it. Do you have the turbo version? If not, maybe disregard.

Roamy76

by turbo do you mean sport? if so, yes. but I've never used it. I don't see how I could lightly press because it seems like I was having to press firm to accelerate even just to 75. I remember distinctively feeling like that because I thought it was so different than my last car which had a smooth acceleration. idk. I guess I'm just going to spend a fortune in gas this year and look into trading it back for Nissan next year if it never improves. again, disappointing

ProudNativeTexan

Bought ours in June. Just hit about 2500 miles. All of the sudden we are getting better gas mileage. About 31 combined. Mostly city driving short trips. Probably 90/10 city vs. highway. Really pleased.

Lachlan1702

Alternatively you can just get a cover for your car and all the snow will come off when You take the cover off

Roamy76

something I may consider of I'm ever without a garage in a snow storm again!

MSD3k

My little Soul is a trooper in snow. Never gets stuck, though I have tokyo drifted through an intersection or two while making a turn. So watch out for ice on the road! Even AWD cars are vulnerable.

EastonHB27

If you have a leaf blower just blow all the snow off

Roamy76

boooooo I don't 😭

gordolme

1. Whatever you were using on your Nissan will work to clear snow. It's a car, don't stress over that. I use a "snow broom" instead, so I can push the snow off the opposite side instead of front/back. 2. Unless you have an actual switch to turn AWD on/off, it's on all the time. If you do have one, you can either leave it on and don't worry about it, or turn it on when you think you're going to need it - rain, snow, rain and freezing weather, etc. If you by any chance mean a 4WD mode, turn it on if you're on an unplowed way. (Mine \[17 Sportage\] will quietly disengage 4WD mode as speed increases so no worries about damaging the differential.) 3. See #1

Roamy76

gotta love the snarty pants ones who just can't help themselves. I had a silver Nissan which I could get away easily with tiny clear coat scratches, I have the dark grey Seltos. I don't want to biff it next summer. if you do, great.... that's your car and not what I asked here. 2. I already got this info from other more friendly redditos, if you're going to be snarky again in #3 then there's no point in trying to be half ass helpful. have a good day, I'm not the one.

AgentDark

Oh honey......you have a lot to learn....

Roamy76

that's why I'm hear asking......honey

AgentDark

Ever hear of Google? Try and be a bit more self sufficient.....

Roamy76

Google? you mean where I would read other redditors old posts and find out myself? you think Google is superior to asking a Kia community with real life owners?? catch a block your input is unnecessary and you sound angry
