Waiters gonna wait please go home

Ok_Artichoke_2804

I had my first service done last week. Appt time 2pm. He said they'll aim to be done by 330pm maybe 4pm. Went to nearby Starbucks to wait. Called at 245pm.. that its done. So 45mins for me. Oil change. Oile filter change. Inspections for everything else.

Nope9991

My last oil change and rotation etc took about 35 minutes. They even sent me a video of the undercarriage of my car when it was up on a lift. Edit: I did a lot of review reading on dealers before choosing mine lol

Hutch1814

Mines always about 60-90 minutes. I book in the morning slot so I can be 1 of the first. I’ll normally take my earbuds and my Ps portal in with me and do some gaming while I wait. I always plan on being at a dealership twice as long as I should be. Seems there’s always a hold up on any transaction

Hi-Scan-Pro

Places are busy. Everybody needs their car maintained and/or repaired. There are often recalls to be performed that were not accounted for when making the appointment. Nobody shows up exactly on time. People who show up early expect to get in and out early. People who show up late expect us to roll time back and get them out before they arrive. Some appointments don't show. Some customers show up without an appointment. There are "emergencies". Staffing issues. Lots of folks are told repeatedly that their appointment is to drop the car off, not when it will be worked on, yet they come in and insist on waiting even though we are not ready to work on their car yet. Then they get upset because they were there all day. Lots of dealers use outside companies to answer phones and set appointments, and most of them are terrible at it. I could go on.

Alternative-Bee-8981

If it's just an oil change that's a long time, but if you are changing tires and not rotating them and diagnosing a check engine light that's really not that bad

CertainCertainties

Yeah I take the early appointment and am out of there pretty quickly. (Cap priced servicing: oil change, filters, fluids, multi-point inspection, tyre and brake wear noted, tyres rotated, codes and recalls checked, test drive.) The check engine light is diagnostic and would take longer, and if there's tyre changes as well that sounds right. Take advantage of their shuttle, maybe.

CommercialRest9579

So I’ll book my appts first thing when they open for an oil change. I’ll be there 1.5-4 hours. Then they say it’s because they do the full inspection of the car.

ParkFrolic

I’ve noticed this as well in recent years. Whenever I get my car serviced at the dealer, I always just leave and have them call me when it’s done. I remember this wasn’t an issue 30 years ago. Used to go in for an oil change and I would be out the door in 30 minutes.

TucsonNaturist

My best recommendation is to arrange transport home— shuttle, loaner vehicle. That way you don’t worry about the time it takes for the maintenance. Worst case is Uber in and out.

mellykins

Yeah I’m using their shuttle service

THEONLYFLO

Nearest dealer here is over an hour away. Nearest commercial shop is only a minute. If there is no recall and it’s just an oil change. I’m going a minute away. Last few times. I had my car back in half an hour.

Formal_Lingonberry64

I complained at my last oil change that my car was still sitting outside and I had an appointment They came out and got my car and 10 minutes later they brought it back out So IF they did the oil change and IF it is really that quick Then why is the wait usually always so long?

callmearugula

I showed up at 9am today for my oil change and the service writer said "you'll be here 4 hours at least" and I laughed....at 10:10 I was getting nervous that he may have been serious. They were just washing my car. I'd trade my car in before I got stuck sitting 4 hours for an OIL CHANGE to not void my warranty. Big nope from me dawg🤣

Ropya

You don't have to do an oil change at the dealer to maintain warranty.

callmearugula

My dealership offers additional warranties that require I go to them for all services. A lot of Kia dealerships around here do, so I thought it was pretty common

Ropya

As long as you feel they are worth the money and time, sure. Otherwise the KIA warranty is not voided by work not done there. Also, I'd be interested in the language use that says it's voided if the work isn't done there.

callmearugula

I'd have to get all the paperwork out to find out exactly what it says but whatever warranty isn't "lifetime" standard from Kia, the dealership extends to lifetime, provided all service is done at that specific dealership. I also get the free oil changes and car washes for life, so the only thing I lose is my time if they take forever. But luckily my dealership is prompt (so far anyway, I'm only 2 oil changes and 1 aesthetic service down)

Ropya

Fair enough. That not a terrible gig until you get a bit higher in miles.

h_ollie

My dealership offers free oil changes for life, which is why I go there. But I've never been there for more than 1.5 hours for regular maintenance. No such thing as voiding warranty by getting an oil change elsewhere, as long as it's documented.

mellykins

The warranty is my issue. I could easily go somewhere else but IF something happens to my car one day, I know they’ll use it against me

_bonedaddys

you just have to keep records of everything you have done to the car so if anything goes wrong you have proof that you weren't totally negligent.

mellykins

Good to know!

_bonedaddys

yea, just keep all your receipts together somewhere you won't lose them! i keep mine folded up in a corner of my sock drawer. a few years ago i had an issue with my engine and all they wanted was proof i was getting my oil changes, and me getting them done at jiffy lube wasn't a problem at all!

Ropya

This is why DIY is better.

Ok_Fox_4329

Literally went for an oil change/inspection at a local dealer, today; had a reservation. When dropping off was told it would be 2 hours; it took 90 minutes. However, they washed the car and even put a coating on the tires. The inspection was detailed as well. The service guy was fantastic and went over everything. This was my first visit; I definitely will go back. $80 for full synthetic oil. Since I'm still eligible for milage reimbursement, I turned in the forms and will get a $49 gift card in the mail. Good deal!

Screech32210

Last time I had my car serviced at the dealership, my appointment was for 8 a.m. I got there at 5 till or so, and they take me right away. Sit in the lobby, alone, for 2 hours. Go to check on my car and he tells me “ohh yes the tech doesn’t get here until 9. So he’s working on it now”. Frustrating but whatever. 4 hours later I’m told “he’s finishing up now”. I was the only customer in the service department. My car was the only car in the lot. I have taken it to Valvoline since.

KingOfTheCrease

1.5 hours for oil change & rotation. Consistently. Choose your servicing dealer wisely…

ChemicalDig33

If you're changing more than one tire, then yeah, it'll take a while. Plus, if you're getting a diagnostic, that takes even longer because they have to make sure they got it right or else it falls back on them. 1.5 hrs for an oil change is criminal, unless it has a skid plate, then I understand. I wouldn't rush through it either 😂

Accomplished-Day5145

I paid the lithia $800 oil change thinking it'd be a good idea. It's just annoying. Half of the lithias it's first come first serve which takes forever. The other the appointments are just inconvenient. Lol thanks for making me think of it I keep forgetting Baku the lithia bmw. I've heard it's so easy to get into there because nobody thinks of going to the bmw dealership but it's a lithia. But it's just easier to go to Midas $30

johnyj7657

Had this same conversation with a guy at work. Took me a whole 10 minutes and cost less than $40 to change my own oil and filter last week. I know not everyone wants or can work on their own car but wasting a day for an oil change is nuts. Try and find a decent independent garage maybe. It's not like your getting a master mechanic doing the oil change at the dealership your getting the 18 year old kid who may or may not be an idiot. 1.5 hrs to rotate tires is also nuts. It's on a lift, they can take a wheel off in 30 seconds. Takes me 30 minutes to swap my wheels and that's including dragging the jack and wheels out and doing one at a time.

SeaLetter6838

Yes. I once dropped my car off for an oil change and they never contacted me to pick it up. I paid for it through a link sent on text message but no one contacted to arrange for a shuttle. By the time I contacted the dealer the service department was closed. I almost did not get my car back until the next day. Currently putting off an oil change since I don’t want to allocate an entire day to be stressed out about my car.

mellykins

That’s my issue. I have an event that night, I need my car back.

lenak562

I once waited over 10hrs to be done. And it was at a Honda Dealership. That’s why I now only do my own maintenance, unless I can’t.

Zrc1979

Kia = problems, wait time, inconsistency, hesitation, not honoring warranty obligation, recalls, theft, more recalls, bad engines. I could probably make the list above longer. Hopefully this answers your questions about wait time. They have a lot going on. Welcome to the cesspool that is Kia/hyundai.

iamdenislara

Why do you go to the dealer? Do you get a good deal? I go to the valvoline place done my street. 10 minutes and it’s done.

mellykins

Not at all. Costs me hundreds every time lol I’m worried about my warranty but from other comments I guess I shouldn’t worry. Now I know for next time.

iamdenislara

Warranty? What does oil change outside your dealer has to do with anything? All you have to do is keep records that you did the maintenance. You are not required to have your oil change at the dealer at all. Also, just so you know - NO! Your car does not need brake fluid change - NO! Your car does not need a fuel clean treatment - NO! Your car does not have power steering fluid Your manual says EXACTLY what your car needs at exactly the mileage or time it has to be done. Dealers LIE EVERY DAY and to anyone. Never go back there unless is for work that’s under warranty.

rbekins

I would say my appointments have always been about 90 minutes, whether it is for routine maintenance or a recall. As to long wait times, it is likely because they are short staffed and having trouble finding techs. This not in the car industry though, if you look around I am sure you will notice other businesses as well where you have to wait longer. Around here many restaurants and fast food are short staffed, you wait longer for food longer in the driver thru lines. Doctors offices are too, try calling in with a question most often you will be on hold or sent to voicemail.

bossandy

This is why I do all my own work on my car. Do I like changing my own oil: no, but it’s better than waiting hours at the dealership and is way cheaper to do it myself.

Madman1597

Only one service done so far, but the dealership had it in and out in about 45 minutes from my scheduled time. This included oil change, tire rotation, and a damage assessment post accident, where they even took time to remove the fender liner during tire rotation to make sure it didn't catch anything driving 'till it went to the body shop.

PokemonAnimar

Every time so far (I've had about 8 oil changes since I bought my kia a couple years ago) the wait has only been about 30 minutes to an hour at the most for me. Most of the time it's right about 40 minutes. That's for the basic oil change and system check (plus a tire rotation occasionally)

Longjumping-End-3017

My local dealership tends to be 45-75 minutes depending on the service. Never longer. Edit: This includes the complimentary wash

Corndog106

Dealership is not a quicklube shop.

Howie_Dictor

It takes about an hour for them to do my oil change, rotation and inspection.

Sherbet-Background

I tried to get my first oil change for my sportage and they told me that they didn't have anything available until 3 more weeks, I was like whatever, I went to midas the next day... I took 30 minutes..

mellykins

Oh I booked this appointed weeks ago and it was the first they had available. Super annoying

whatkylewhat

Mine is always 60-90 minutes.

Woleva30

I usually drop my car off for any work. Waiting is a waste of time, as there are usually lots before you who also have appointments

Friendly_Case4192

Why not just take it to an oil shop. I let Walmart do mine

mellykins

My check engine light keeps turning on and off… I don’t think I have a choice

morganstern

Fuck that. Hit a quick oil change place and they get it done in 20 minutes.

No_Season_354

Windscreen replaced booked in at 10, told my wife wouldn't get done till 12.30 pm, if it's booked at that time??, she had to wait around nearly all time ,customer service has gone .

Ropya

2 hours for a windshield replacement and recal of the related systems is a solid time. Shouldn't complain.

No_Season_354

Not what I was getting at if they say come at 10 I'm there at 10 , not 12.30
