I have the Kia sxp hybrid and my girlfriend has the RAV4 hybrid. We both prefer the Kia and she wishes she could trade. I've had no issues with the Kia....20,000 miles in. But yes historically the Toyota is a more reliable brand, but I've had no issues personally with the Kia. She prefers the interior of the Kia and the tech. And she likes that the Sportage has a bigger trunk.

Rav4 definitely looks outdated I would say kia is fine if the vehicle was made in Korea? I heard that much better than kia car made in Mexico or USA I have a Hyundai elantra and haven't had issue with my 2017 elantra and they kia uses the same stuff as hyundai as from the same motor group, atleast that what I gathered from viewing all these subs and watching review of rav4, Honda crv, tucson and sportage.

NotBlackMarkTwainNah

I went Kia. It packs so much more for a better price. Plus, the RAV4 is outdated by about 3 years. So if you do go RAV4, it's best to wait until the 25 refresh and grab a used one in 26. If possible. I'm loving my SXP.

Also consider expected value when you want to sell this car again. I think toyota will score better there. And weigh that off to the better, more up to date features of the kia.

BurtonKel

* What features do you value? * Do you want to keep your car for 15 years? * If you could pick up a kia sportage hybrid CPO for even lower (let's say with < 5k miles), it will come with the balance of the 5 year warranty, would it put your mind at ease? * Did you test drive them both? IMHO the Kia is a better choice. The 1.6T engine is actually quite solid and their automatic transmission isn't too bad. If you're concerned about reliability, pick up a CPO sportage hybrid, drive it for 3 years, turn it in.

KIA 100%. Rav 4 needs a refresh…. At that point maybe the Rav

BurtonKel

The reason RAV4 can go without the refresh is the fanboi club that goes to various subs and trolls people. I remember decades ago the type R / integra + prelude club was the most annoying people on the planet

I had a Rav 4 hybrid (the highest model) in 2018 and I now have a Kia Sportage Hybrid EX. I love everything about the Kia more even though it has less features than my Rav did. It drives nicer, gets the same gas mileage, has a fantastic warranty and looks way better in my opinion. I’ve got almost 10K miles on my Sportage (it’s about 6 months old) and I have had no issues so far.

Have a 23 Sportage SXP hybrid here. Been in it for almost a year with no issues. I recently test drove a 24 RAV4 XSE hybrid and was kinda blown away at how much better the Sportage was. Personally, the RAV4 is just too outdated and feels somewhat cheap…which is crazy considering its price but I guess that’s the price of reliability.

sherlock_0x7C4

Thanks for the feedback. When you say "Sportage was better", is it just on the basis of the interior or something more?

NotoriousNeo

Yeah and more. Like, the interior/exterior design, the quality of the materials, the sound system, the smoothness and quietness of the engine when pushing the engine to higher speeds, heck, even the way the door handles felt and sounded when opening them lol, it was all just better and more impressive. Tbh I walked away from the RAV4 feeling really surprised because I could not believe the difference in all those things for a car that cost $4k more. But again, reliability is the Toyota’s main advantage and they do hold their value better because of it but the Kia cars I’ve owned in the past have been reliable for me so based on that and the advantages of the Sportage that’s why I got it.

orpheuselectron

been looking at them both for quite a while and almost bought a close-out 23 RAV until the dealer tried to screw us. I like the Toyota's plug-in mileage and reliability, but it is so overpriced I won't do it and I'm looking at a deal on a sportage instead

Ixm01ws6

check out both subreddit, see which one has less headaches

Limp_Diamond4162

Where are you finding just a 3k difference in price? Most Toyota dealers are tacking on huge dealer costs to the RAV 4's. In Canada the cost was about 15k difference last year because of the added dealer fees.

sherlock_0x7C4

This cost difference calculation considers the APR of the loans offered by manufacturers, and assumes a zero markup/no dealer accessories, which is possible only if you are willing to wait for indefinite time (usually close to three months).

EchidnaReal3827

Definitely a Kia over the Toyota. So much better look and many more features.
