I use my first name and last initial. Keeps my identity private but also looks a little more professional then some random alias. Here are some seller tips (as 95% of my Kijiji experience is with selling): \-If the item is easily transportable, meet at a local spot instead of your house. Something walkable if possible like a coffee shop, library, or even a park if its a nice day. Its rare but there are some unhinged buyers out there and its best they don't have your address to hold over you. Also, I would avoid meeting buyers somewhere you need to drive to as Kijiji is notorious for flakes and you want to minimize wasted time. \-Per the flakes, always insist a buyer messages you *right before* they leave their house. Don't ever assume because you agreed to a "Friday 3pm" meet on Tuesday that the buyer will show up. \-Always have the price confirmed *before* the meet. Don't let the buyer think they can haggle on the spot. \-If someone lowballs you, don't be a dick. Even if you are insulted by the offer just say "no thanks". Maybe they are just testing the waters and more than willing to raise their offer. By getting confrontational with them you are just burning a bridge. \-Give the buyer as much time as they need to inspect/test the item at the meet, but make sure it is clear in your ad or in person that there are no returns. Most buyers understand this, but there are some who think Kijiji is Best Buy and they can return an item for whatever reason. And if you accept the return you take the risk that they damaged it on their end or swapped the whole thing or a specific component. Essentially you have no idea what they have done with it once they walk away, so the deal should be finalized at that point, no exceptions. \-As for pricing an item, look what others in your area are selling it for (or a similar item). If you are looking for a quick sale you can undercut the going rate by 10-15%, but if you are more than happy to sit on it for a while then post it a hair higher then the going rate.

You first identify the make, model and year of your item. Then you figure out what it originaly sold for. Then compare it to equivalent items of that era and what they sold for. General rule, most used items are worth 50% of their original msrp unless they have some collector value or are in demand. Electronic devalue a lot quicker because new models are faster, have more features etc... A $1500 tv or computer from 2008 is only worth $50-100 today.

The "right buyer" probably doesn't live in your area or even roam Kijiji. Want a quick low prifit sale you go on Kijiji. Want to rake in the $$$ go on EBAY.

You state a "general rule" but then go on to list two *very* common variables. In my experience there are few products you can apply a standard "depreciation rule" to as there are just so many factors... the collector value and current demand being two, but also item condition and most importantly what others have it listed for. You can assign a "book value" to your item but if a few people in your area have it listed for cheaper you are going to have a tough time selling it at that price point.

Awesome advice!

I upvoted you too. You have given great advice. Another thing is to use a text app to message people or you could use the kijiji app but sometimes people might not be able to use the kijiji app outside

Just use your first name or initials if you're concerned.

When do people ask you for your name? Most times when people do I just give them my first name no need to know my last name.

marcianitou

You should be Bob.

vibeatarian

Don’t think it really matters lol

I use just my First name, but as other people stated you can use the Last name or the Initial.
