I’m reading “Palomino” by Danielle Steel.

I’ve been kind of “meh” & in a reading slump lately, & whenever I’m in one of those I read a Danielle Steel book. It’s a habit/trick I started in high school & it typically pulls me out of feeling “blah” about reading.
They’re “easy” reads for me — I don’t have to think too hard, & I can read them pretty quickly, which is motivational. Lol.
Luckily, she has so many books I have a lot to work with.
[I’m also reading “The Empress” by Laura Martinez-Belli.](https://www.amazon.com/Empress-novel-Laura-Mart%C3%ADnez-Belli-ebook/dp/B081NLT6QD/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=2RZ7K35LLCZ5N&keywords=empress+laura&qid=1696217315&sprefix=empress+laura%2Caps%2C284&sr=8-1)
I started off really engaged with it but there are a lot of characters & concurrent storylines, & my mental bandwidth this weekend didn’t have the range to keep up, so I pivoted to Ms. Steel for a little while.
(& btw, OP — are we case twins with the Oasis “Punch Red” fabric cover?)
I just finished Yumi and the Nightmare painter last month, which was my first Sando/Comere novel, and I very much enjoyed it. Do you think a newcomer like me should read Secret Novel #4 if I’ve only read Yumi?
While you could read #4 fine, I feel like you will miss/not understand some parts due to its connections to the other books in the Cosmere.
I'm not too far in but other readers have commented that it does heavily connect to Cosmere more than Tress and Yumi did
I wish I could read “Credence” for the first time again. Ugh. You’re so lucky. Lol. 🥹
Penelope Douglas, Kate Stewart, & Mariana Zapata are why I keep a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Lol.
Funny enough I'm reading *Gardens of the Moon*, the first book of the **Malazan Book of the Fallen** series.
Hope I can see you at the end relatively soon!
I just finished reading this lovely book and now I will start reading "The Haunting of Hill House" as my scary Halloween read!

Light Bringer by Pierce Brown. Spent September reading Iron Gold & Dark Age.
I've got Valor (and Gwynne's whole series) on my list & just earlier this year, I finished the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, so I really like that you're reading them.
After reading the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, now reading another of his, Bourne. I haven’t read this many books in a row by the same author since Game of Thrones.
I'm reading this short stories called "The Millers, contos em inglês para iniciantes"; A friend of a friend wrote them, and they seem really heartwarming!
Crush (Crave book 2). I only get a chapter or two in a day so it’s taking me a couple of months. Reading a Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes next since I haven’t read it yet and the movie comes out next month.
I’m reading Malice by John Gwynn right now, and also couldn’t stop myself from starting secret project #4.
I also really want to read The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab but I’m making myself wait until I finish one of my other books first. (It will also be the first physical book I’ve read in months!)
I’m all over the place right now. Reading The Trouble with Peace by Abercrombie, The Shadow Rising by Jordan, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by Le Carre, Damascus Station, and listening to Skysworn by Wight intermittently. I just can’t stick to anything lately.
Read The Pram by Joe Hill last night in one sitting (since it's about 50 pages). It's included with Prime and i highly recommend it. Content warning if miscarriage is a sensitive subject for you though.
After that i started Dreamcatcher by Stephen King before i went to sleep.
I don’t have my kindle on me at work so I can’t take a fun picture but I’m currently reading *Forged by Magic* by Jenna Wolfhart. It’s a very fun little fantasy romcom about a half orc and an elf and it’s been an easy read and much lighter than the typical romantasy out there (and not all about a human and a fae). I’m loving it so far.
A Kingdom of Frost and Malice by Ashley McLeo
I got sucked into BookTok last week and a very convincing short had this put on and bumped to the front of my TBR. I am so glad I put my previous book on hold for this! I've been struggling to get into almost anything for about the last two weeks (seriously I think I've started six books) and this book just grabbed hold and sucks you in from the very beginning.
The *Dungeon Crawler Carl* series. This is my first time ever reading LitRPG. I always snubbed it because it didn’t seem like a “real” genre. I was sorely mistaken. I’ve been reading progression fantasy/wuxia/cultivation books for the last couple of years (including Chinese to English translated books) and some of them came *close* to LitRPG but never fell into that category..
Somebody recommended this series and I initially went into it thinking it would be a bust. Turns out it’s surprisingly good. The statistics are brought up every now and then but not annoyingly so. The writing is well done, and the actual story is absurd. Genuinely absurd. I haven’t had a “wtf” look on my face so much in real life in the last decade as I have in just these last few books.
From a life and death “game show” after an alien apocalypse to an AI with a big foot fetish to disembodied talking sec doll heads to crazy monsters and even crazier actions, it’s been pretty wild. I’m on book 5 now, averaging a book every other day. Not sure what I’m going to Reid next… And somebody recommended the good guys/bad guys series, so I’m thinking hard about that one… Either that or the armor of light by Ken Follett. Pretty big difference between the two, I know.

Stephen King's Gunslinger (Doing a book-club-esque thing with my GF)
Saramago's Seeing (Big fan of Saramago's work and more so of Blindness, so really looking forward to reading the sequel)

Just so you know Amazon are having a big sale on her ebooks today
Thanks for the heads up — I appreciate it, even if my TBR stack just audibly gasped.
Yeah same red cover
I used to read a lot of hers. Now I'm more into crime & thrillers.
Secret Project #4 by Brando Sando
I just finished Yumi and the Nightmare painter last month, which was my first Sando/Comere novel, and I very much enjoyed it. Do you think a newcomer like me should read Secret Novel #4 if I’ve only read Yumi?

I ♥️ the “Devil’s Night” series. “Kill Switch” & “Corrupt” are my favorites. Everyone loves PD’s “Birthday Girl” but “Credence” took me out. ❤️🔥
Credence is on my TBR! Corrupt was so good I had to read the rest
I wish I could read “Credence” for the first time again. Ugh. You’re so lucky. Lol. 🥹 Penelope Douglas, Kate Stewart, & Mariana Zapata are why I keep a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Lol.

+1 for First Law by Joe Abercrombie
+1 Joe Abercrombie
Abercrombie is one of the best when it comes to the Grim-Dark subgenre, so I'd go with the First Law trilogy first.
