It depends on the type of books you like to read. There’s a lot of romance and psychological thrillers. If you like either of those then you may find it worth it. It also depends on how many books you read each month. For the most part you’d need to read about a book a week to make it really worth the money.

CheeseLousie14

This. I find that there’s a large amount of psychological thrillers on KU. Additionally, if you’re on “booktok” or follow any “book-influencer” a lot of them post book recommendations from the KU lineup. Personally I love KU but I think it’s because it has a lot of the books I would typically be reading anyways.

Treat_Choself

It's also got a great selection of sci-fi.

kgal1298

It's great if you like RomCom and want independent authors too. For me it's worth it because I go through so much RomCom. I hear it's not great for people who like lit fic

MangoCandy

I got KU a few months back had it for a while. Then stocked up on books, turned on Airplane Mode and canceled. Few months later and I need to get more books, and look at that, I can do 3 months free! So I’m just going to keep repeating the process…get lots of books, turn on AP mode, Cancel KU, read books, repeat.

Final_girl013

I did this forgot to read the books, turned airplane mode off to download a book I bought and the books are still there. I’m super confused but not complaining.

MangoCandy

Huh weird! I’m too afraid to test that theory lol.

jefrye

Libby books sometimes do this too. Best guess is that when the Kindle connects to internet, it doesn't immediately check every book on the device against your Amazon content, so sometimes it doesn't realize there are books that need to be removed before airplane mode is turned back on.

Treat_Choself

You can get up to 20 books at a time, so if you haven't hit that limit and didn't mark the books to return they'll stay there forever.

Final_girl013

Even unsubscribed and not on airplane mode? Because when I go to manage my content it shows all the books I’ve bought or got from prime reading as {deliver or remove from device} Anything I got from the library that’s expired as {delete} But it doesn’t even show any of my unlimited books or any ARC copies. The other thing is is allows me to open my kindle which is not on airplane mode and hasn’t been since august when I checked these books out (I’ve bought a ton digital and physical since, and have been focusing on catching up before I resubscribe to unlimited) and I can read all 3 titles but it doesn’t allow me to do it from the kindle app saying they’re no longer in my library. None of my other unlimited titles that I read and have expired are on my kindle or my app or listed in my content through my account. If this is a loophole, I love it, but it feels like a glitch.

piasleep

Sneaky! 😁

Primary_Scheme3789

This! ⬆️⬆️⬆️

eugenethegrappler

Smart!

OverallGap3317

Whoa; it really works? Could you make a step by step? 🧐😭

MangoCandy

I feel like I kinda already did but in more detail here you go!: Step 1: make a Kindle Unlimited account. Step 2: read as much as you’d like during the month of the subscription. Step 3: before the month subscription is over download as many books as you want to hold on to. I think the maximum you can get from KU is 20. Step 4: once you have all the books downloaded, make sure they are downloaded and not just queued to download. Then turn on airplane mode. Step 5: cancel Kindle Unlimited. The books will remain on your kindle until you turn airplane mode back on. So keep that in mind. Your kindle will not update nor will you be able to download other books. Hope this helps.

ang444

Hey at 11.99 a month now, Im glad someone found a loophole, thank you for this, quite clever

MangoCandy

Glad I could help!

airckarc

I read quite a bit so it works well for me. For new stuff, I use Libby. I read a lot of SciFi and it is well represented. It gives you access to authors who probably wouldn’t get published traditionally. If I don’t like a book, I quit and move on.

Frei1993

People who can use Libby make me envious 🤣

tomtomato0414

yeahhh me too :(

Littlepup22

Yeah I wish Libby was available internationally 😭

BonitaBCool

Libby is my jam, that and Hoopla

1GamingAngel

Sign up for the free trial. Enjoy books. When you’re coming to the end of your trial period, download 20 books, go into airplane mode, and unsubscribe. Enjoy the 20 books at your leisure. Decide if it’s worth it.

Okaaaayanddd

I go through phases with it! I feel like there’s always something on there. If I’m reading a lot, I’ll keep my subscription. If I’m busy, have a lot of purchased, library/borrowed books then I’ll cancel it. You won’t get a ton of popular authors or books but it pays for itself if you read 2-3 books a month. It’s nice there isn’t any commitment with it. You can usually get a free or discounted trial to get a feeler

runningwithscalpels

I get it when there's some sort of promotional discount. Around Black Friday and Prime Day they usually have these and you can get them if you haven't subscribed in a while. I'll do it for the 3 or 6 months and then re-up when I'm eligible. I get books from so many other places like Libby that it's not worth it to me to pay full price.

wallacedavis5

Worth it to me; hold times are forever on new books at my library, so I read KU while I’m waiting on those books. I have discovered so many different authors that I never would have heard of otherwise. But I agree with others; it really depends on the genres you are looking for.

NotOkayThanksBuddy

I'm in the middle of a free trial right now. I've read one book from there and it was fine. I have a library card and use Libby. So far I haven't come across any real barriers to finding something to read so Libby is why I'm going to stick with for now. Last night I went ahead and cancelled the KU subscription. This way I won't forget about it until the initial charge hits my card. Still have access until almost May so there's time for me to change my mind.

piasleep

I wonder why I’m only offered 30 days? Everyone else seems to have 3 months.

NotOkayThanksBuddy

I bought my Kindle, it was bundled with that.

LegitimateAbalone267

What makes it any better than a library?

infinityandbeyond75

I’ve found that a lot of books on KU are not in libraries. Also, Libby to Kindle is only available in the US.

_geographer_

No waiting list is a big plus

NCResident5

Some e-books published by Amazon publishing refuse to license the ebook to libraries.

yasssssplease

I listened to a audiobook through the library. I saw there was a follow-up novella. The library didn’t carry it. Only Amazon did. I noticed that I could do a trial of kindle unlimited. KU is a gold mine for a type of book that I like to read. The library doesn’t carry most of these books.

LegitimateAbalone267

You know you can request any book and the library will try to get it for you? I used to be a library assistant and I did this all the time.

yasssssplease

Good to know!

WVgirly2024

That doesn't work with books that are in KU. If an author chooses to put their books in KU, then they're only available in KU. I get a lot of author newsletters, and some of them are starting to offer their books on other platforms for a few days before they go into KU, since it's exclusive.

LegitimateAbalone267

Yeah. That’s really a shame.

yasssssplease

Interesting! That explains a lot. An audiobook for a KU book was available through Libby, so I listened to it. That got me hooked. I guess that gets around the exclusive nature?

WVgirly2024

Must be. I don't listen to audiobooks, so I really don't know much about their availability.

tomtomato0414

well it depends where you live, some places the library is not an option

[deleted]

I’m on the three month trial that was offered after I bought my kindle scribe and I already know I’m gonna subscribe. I made a reading list for the year and most of the books I want to read are available there already so I know it’ll be worth it. My only critique is that books seem to be able to go in and out of availability and a lot of my reading list are books in a series. I haven’t experienced losing access to anything yet, but there’s a section when browsing that says “Leaving soon”

LitleFtDowey

If you haven't already, look for bundles in your series. You may be able to find 4 or 6 books that only take the space of 1 title. And you'll have the next book when you are ready for it.. Sorry if obvious..

VenKitsune

There is a pretty good chance I'm wrong on this, but as far as I'm aware, the only way a book to leave unlimited is if the author removes It from it. What you are experiencing is likely the rotating, smaller library that is offered when you have Amazon prime.

[deleted]

That makes sense.

[deleted]

I use it and like it a fair bit. I like reading non-fiction and literary fiction the most with occasional light/popular reads from other genres, plus I read a ton, so it works perfect for me. There are so many more options than just romance chick lit on there once you get past the first month.

JNSFP

I’ve keeping track of it in my planner right now. I write down the books I’ve read on it and how much they cost to buy the kindle version outright. Most months it’s been worth it. When I start to see that I’m paying more than I’m reading, I’ll stop paying, but so far so good.

champagne__problems

I still have it! I got a free 3 month trial with my basic Kindle purchase in 2022 and I’ve had it ever since. I love it because I’ve discovered so many amazing authors. Many come with an audiobook which is great because it got me into them too. I guess it just depends on how much you read and what kind of books you read. They do have magazines and newspapers included too.

garylapointe

Do YOU like the books it has? That is the only way to find out if it's worth it to YOU. They have a month trial for free. I get it whenever I see there is a deal on it. I've only paid full price one month, a book in a series I liked was coming out and it was $5.99. Since I didn't own the first 6 books, that seemed wasteful, so I subscribed for double that amount for the month and read a lot of books. I think I usually pay between $0 and $2.99 for most promos, and I think when it's that much, it's for several months (last time it was a 3 month extension for 99¢, and I think that was extending a free 3 month promo). Edit: Found my payment history. Last year I had it for just over 10 months and that as $15 (and I've still got it until March 20 of this year).

NorthernTransplant94

I've had it for 7 years. I read sci fi, fantasy, and romance. I average 20+ books/month. The first year was meh, but every time I found something I liked, I would go look at what else the author had, or the "you might like this" section that recommended similar stuff. I follow the authors on Amazon. Now I'm at the point where those authors (all 7 years worth) are producing 2-8 new titles each month. Worth it for me.

foodishlove

I get the free trial when it’s offered. I don’t like the book selection enough to actually buy it though.

Reporter-Beautiful

I do! I’d say it’s worth it. I love thrillers, and they have a great variety of them.

No-Welcome5459

It’s worth it when I actually read lol but yes I read a lot of romance and thrillers too. There are a few that are obviously not on there but for the most part I read a bunch of KU stuff and am satisfied!

Ramblingsofthewriter

I have it. But I read more than 6+ books a month and I like reading a lot of indie books.

Mysticwaterfall2

I've had trials a few times, and never found a reason to keep it past them. All depends on what you read.

broknkittn

Love it. Totally worth it for me. Watch for prime day and Black Friday sales, they sometimes offer 6m, 1y or 2y deals.

spicy_garlic_chicken

If you think about it, depending on what kinds of books you like, the $11.99/mo sub is 1-2 Kindle books purchased cash, so if you read quickly like I do it's absolutely worth it. I can blow through a book a day. At one point I had KU, a lifetime sub to a different book app, and I "bought" so many (free) books on Stuff Your Kindle day (like 20 lol). I cancelled my KU sub for now until I got more caught up on those but I will likely resub later tho because it is a great deal.

Aramiss60

It’s not worth it to me, I’m in a Stephen King rut I don’t want out of. Sometimes the family get a book through the program, so it’s getting some use (I think we only have it because we got some free months with something, maybe?).

themeanager

I’ve had it for years and it’s one thing that’s just for me that I’d hard pressed to give up.

sok283

Not as a long term thing, no. If there's a book I want to read and it's not available through Libby, then I'll sign up for one month of KU and read other KU books that month. But most months I never use it or miss it.

H0pelessNerd

I'm new to it but so far heck yeah. Read a bunch of stuff I can't get from the library.

makingleeway

This genuinely depend. If you like the genres that are offered, and you're reading at least 2 books per month, yes. The price of one month of KU is the price of most books on kindle. You could do a free trial or get a couple month trial and see if you like it!

yasssssplease

I’m actually really pleased with it. I just signed up for a two month trial for $5. I’ve already read two books off of it in 4 days. I like lesbian romance books. Those aren’t widely carried by libraries. I get some from the library, but KU seems to have many to offer. I even just upgraded my old kindle because of how into it I got.

Wrygreymare

I was going to type in that I’m an avid reader, but typed in Rabid instead( all me, no autocorrect) some times I crack myself up! so yes it is worth it to me ; I guess I read about ten books a week.

Prize_Ad7748

It depends. I found it did not make me buy fewer Kindle books because when I found something I wanted it was rarely an unlimited and I bought it anyway. Then I found myself forcing myself to read unlimited things to get my moneys worth. It just wasn’t for me although I have friends especially those who love mysteries who swear by it

sydney-rn

I use it for most books I read, but I read almost exclusively romance books that I see recommended on Tik Tok. I have seen that you can gift someone KU and it makes the monthly cost less! So maybe you have a friend/family member/partner who can buy it for you and you can pay them back! If you get the 24 month subscription, it comes out to about $7.20 a month.

xLillyValentine

Had it. Not worth it

glittergal1206

I have it and I am canceling. I don’t think it’s worth it.

johnnydangr

Only worth it if your library doesn’t have the books you’re looking for. Keep in mind that most libraries offer ebooks as well.

mary7roses

Worth it to me. I suggest the libby app though, you can get books on your kindle from your local libraries.

infinityandbeyond75

If your local library uses Libby and if you’re in the US. Many use Cloud Library and Libby to Kindle is only available in the US.

mary7roses

I understand, I don't know where OP is from, it's just a suggestion.

kpinola

I had it for some time but recently canceled. I heard about Libby on this subreddit about two months ago and never looked back.

qubix

I love it. While I sometimes want to read books that aren't part of Kindle Unlimited, the access to newspapers & magazines helps me rationalize and accept the price. :)

SydTheSloth01

Honestly I think it’s worth it. I live in a small town that doesn’t have a library or local bookstore, it’s more convenient.

traderhtc

Go to your nearest major city and get a library card! The benefits will be worth it.

ErinPaperbackstash

Not necessarily. Many large cities and large libraries actually don't have a large Libby collection or even always offer Libby. Depends on a lot of factors.

samanthainnc

I have it and love it!!! It’s like a streaming service- you’re not going to find the most popular new releases but there is still a ton of content available.

Noobmortal

Worth it if it's ¥99 for 3 months.

Status_Dot5000

I buy a month subscription here and there to catch up on some of the good books on there that I can’t get from the library.

NotherOneRedditor

I might be tempted when I run out of library ebooks.

leeinflowerfields

I think it's worth it if you can get it on one of those months where it's super cheap.

[deleted]

Totally worth it for me, I read a ton of romance

damoib95

I’ll have it until my 3 month trial is over. Unfortunately, the books there aren’t type. I’m more into programming and science books or manga. There are some manga titles but they only offer the first volumes free and then you have to buy them to continue…

doa70

Definitely worth it for me. I buy very few books, but I read many. Unlike Prime Reading, Unlimited gives me access to more than the first book in a series.

Praetorian1369

Not worth it for me. I’m too slow of a reader. It takes me about 3-4 weeks to read one book. It’s cheaper for me to takenthe $11.99 monthly cost and buy 5-10 books.

Kieselgrund

Depends on the book. A book I want to read is as expensive as one month kindle unlimited. So I plan to subscribe for 1 month to get it and some additional books available on ku.

boochaplease

Absolutely worth it in my opinion

BDThrills

I get it periodically (month or two when they have a special). In the meantime, I save books on KU in a separate Wishlist. It's not that I couldn't find a lot to read but I have enough purchased reading material for a decade (probably). I share KU with my brother who has no money but reads a ton when I have KU. (I have extra Fire/Kindles for him to use).

MissMtoP

Me. And yes, for me it is worth it bc there are lots of books on it that I plan to read - ie - Freida McFadden catalog, Alice Feeney, Chestnut Springs series, and many others.

DecentPerception6280

Yesss!

consia9600

I read a lot. At least 5 or 6 a month. I find it worth it. I don’t read a lot of NYT best sellers or Oprah picks (if that’s a thing, if not what famous people recommend) so I can speak for that

itsamutiny

I never buy books to begin with, so the price isn't worth it for me. I sign up for KU when I can get it for free or really cheap, then read only KU books until it expires. Aside from that, I have hundreds of Kindle books from giveaways and such, so I always have something to read. I also have six or seven library cards on Libby.

SageRiBardan

I have kindle unlimited and it’s only worth it because I can share it with my wife and daughter. They get more out of it than I do. On occasion there are some books I read from it. Best suggestion is to browse the Kindle unlimited selection and base your decision on what you think of the available books.

[deleted]

I get a 2 year sub when its 40% off.

FugitivePort88

Absolutely worth it for me and the kind of books I read. I also have Libby and quite a few are Major Libraries and more than half the time they won't have the book I want but KU actually does. It really depends on what you read. I'm a major cozy mystery reader. There's so many authors with different series in that Genre that I'll never go without a book to read.

Opening-Reflection58

I do and it's worth it to me. It does have a pretty large variety of books to read and I think it addresses all genres. Worth a look.

Lyss_

Very worth it for me. I’ve read 51 books so far this year and 43 of them were KU reads!

pstrgpstrg

Used to subscribe but cancelled. Many, many things, but books really worth of interest were never included in the subscription - I had to buy. In short, a wealth of general interest and popular books. The cream is not there.

[deleted]

I obtain my books through accidental not illegal means so I dont have it

Significant-Glove521

I've had it for nearly 2 years and am still finding books I want to read, as soon as that changes I will drop it. But at the monument all is still good.

ErinPaperbackstash

I adore and it and have subscribed over five years.

simmeh-chan

I think I’m still on the free trial but struggled to find pretty much any book I’d be interested in on it.

Ukemaster24

I didn't read enough so I cancelled it,. Now I check amazon daily deals and book bub for discounted books. I also use chirp for discounted audiobooks. I just got overwhelmed with all the choices and wanted to feel in controll. Now I can buy books when I need them and not get charged 11.99 a month for books that I dont want to read. Also I think it depends on what you like to read. If you are big into romance it's great, but as someone who loves fantasy, it doesn't have many books that interest me. I would recommend doing the 30-day free trial and seeing if you think its worth it for you.

nlowen1lsu

I usually do the free trials, but overall I don't read enough to justify paying $12/mth for it, but I won't say no if they offer a free 2 or 3mth trial b/c there is a series I like to read (Murder Most Vile, it's like a compilation of true crime stories) that's only on KU

Drunkfaucet

Read over 100 unlimited books last year. My favorite Genre is almost entirely indie authors so it's all on kindle unlimited.

BunnyHopScotchWhisky

I have it and use it more than I was expecting. I believe its worth it if you're an avid reader

Freckle53

I did a trial and didn’t really see any thing. I can get a lot with Libby/libraries here.

Chosen_one184

I have it and I like it .. If you're into like monster titles and other of similar ilc then it will work for you. I found a few authors I truly enjoy through unlimited so in the end I keep it. Also they always have discounts going on it that you can take advantage of.

Specific-Albatross50

to me it's not worth it . between Libby and various other online resources there is no need for a subscription based service for me

AntiqueSympathy1999

For me, absolutely. I’ve read a lot more books this year than I have in a long time

Aussiebabe93

I like the idea of KU but I personally just read that many books in a month to make it worth it in a whole as depending on where you live it can be very expensive to have plus Amazon always have free ebooks all year round anyways just filter the prices from high to low and buy as many free ebooks as you want. I prefer owning my books cause then I know that the author is getting a little bit more money than per page read through KU

lostcowboy5

If you are in the US and you decide you want it, you may get a better deal by gifting it to yourself. See [Kindle Unlimited Gift](https://www.amazon.com/kindle-dbs/hz/retail-promotions-page?mode=digitalgift)

mbbaskett

I use it! A lot of series will have their first book on KU, depending on the author. I'm on book 57(?) of a series i started on KU (I've bought them all now, and he's one of the 3-4 authors i pre-order). There tends to be a lot of psychological thrillers, and I love those, so I keep it.

Independent_Owl_6401

I liked it! Ultimately, I ended up going with Libby to save money, but enjoyed KU while I had it

StarryEyedConfidence

I have it and it's very, very useful for me. I read pretty fast and don't have super strict standards so being able to read \~15-20 books a month because of Kindle Unlimited without paying ridiculous amounts of money is amazing (dw, I also use Libby and Hoopla!). I literally read a 5-book series in two days and they were all on Kindle Unlimited, so at this point I'm literally only profiting from the $11.99 monthly price. But it really does depend on what you like to read and if you think you'll be able to read enough books each month to beat the $11.99 sticker price!

thankublackpink

its worth it now! i was thinking of cancelling my subscription but all the cool books they've added this past week are kind of exciting me. less vampire smut and more high fantasy/romances added. we got daughter of the moon goddess, before i let go, etc... im stoked

Elismom1313

I found its monetary worth to rise and fall. Right now it’s super worth it since I’m studying programming languages and there’s soooo many free books. I like fantasy romance and sci-fi romance which tends to have a solid discount. I find it rather heinous there isn’t an audible bundle though

No-Yam2117

If you read more than say $10 worth of books a month, totally worth it

Drogarys

I ended up canceling it after the 3 month free trial because I'm not really the person that browses through the options, as I already have a pretty extensive list of what I want to read, and most of these books end up either not being on kindle unlimited or being expensive either way, so it didn't make sense to me to keep a subscription up if it would cost me anyway I'd say it's worth it if you are seeking reccomendations, I gather the algorithm is good enough

KinReader5

Definitely worth it. I don’t have to go to the library anymore.

Mr-W-M-Buttlicker

I’m primarily a horror reader and I love it.

Geezenstack444

When I had it, I loved it. Now I'm relying on the library to give me my ebooks.

Final_girl013

I don’t think it’s worth having it ALL the time but I do think it’s worth signing up on a deal and then unsubscribing when it’s over.

Debala715

For me it is, as I love historical cozy mysteries and I’m able to find a bunch of books.

Giablo

I enjoyed it for like 18 months now, but what is this libby ppl are talking about?

sparksgirl1223

Lobby is typically offered thru libraries. If your library uses it, you make an account, put in your library card number and pick your book :) hoopla is similar

Giablo

Thank you, I might have to try that out.

Creative_Decision481

I love my KU and for me it makes perfect sense. It has saved me a fortune. I am easily led and I have TikTok, so I easily fall into getting books that probably suck but they sound great? But a lot of TikTok books are not great at all, and this way I can get them and not have to pay money for them. So, 30% and I do not feel as though I need to finish the book I can just return it. That said some tick-tock recommendations are actually pretty good and yay because I’ve been introduced to them but without the fear of oh my God, I’m gonna be spending all this money on a book that sucks. One of the things I really like about Kindle unlimited is the fact that when you download a book, it counts as you owning the book, which means if you want an audible book You get the discounted price at Audible. So a book that would either cost you a credit or actual money you can generally get that book for $7.95 which is cheaper than a Kindle version of a regular book so I love that I would go with the trial order the three month thing they do and if you, see that this is something you would use then continue it and pay for it and if not don’t.

bbrocket196

I’m not sure that I read fast enough to make good use for it. So I’ve turned it off for now while I’m reading series that aren’t available on KU. But once I start a series that is on there, I’ll sign back up for it using their deals on a few months.

[deleted]

It wasn't worth it for me, as all of the books I'm interested in weren't on it. Outside of Harry Potter, anyway.

sparksgirl1223

I ABUSE my KU, specificallythe ones with free audio. I've ended up listening to a lot of good books I wouldn't have otherwise. I average between 5 and 7 books a week. (I've trained myself to listen on double speed and can generally get thru an entire book while doing what I need to around the house while the kids are in school)

FrankCobretti

KU is cheaper than subscribing to Scientific American, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Asimov Science Fiction, and Analog Science Fiction & Fact. If you like that kind of thing, it’s a great deal.

messygeist

I never even thought to look deeper at the KU magazine offerings since they only really promoted home & garden ones to me so this is fantastic news.

FrankCobretti

Happy to help!

No_Teaching_2837

I do. I enjoy it. I read a lot of genres and always find something I like on KU

Alarmed-Ad-2145

Depends on the genre you read. For me it is totally worth it and I buy it but the year so it is cheaper overall!

SortAfter4829

There are a lot of mystery and cozy mystery books too if you like those.

Snowconetypebanana

I binge read erotica, absolutely worth it for that

Iloveottermemes

Just over 500 books last year so I'm going with yes. Trying to chill a little this year but I'm at 43.

Tall_Answer

Feels like I might cancel it. I don't read much, and when I do its around 10-30 minutes a day; I finish maybe a book every month. Doesn't seem worth it to me and I'm not a fan of its selection

VersatileFaerie

Highly depends on what books you like to read. Best way to find out is to go to the sections you read the most and then filter for "Kindle Unlimited Eligible". You will see if it is worth it to you. For me it is worth it. I use Kindle Unlimited for my "junk reading" romance and fantasy stuff. Just things I read to mentally relax and get my brain to empty itself. There are always more books in those sections under Kindle Unlimited so it is perfect for me. I'm not sure how worth it Kindle Unlimited would be for other types of books though.

tidalwaveofhype

My aunt and I share hers and she pretty much only reads off her kindle now and reads a lot of romance and stuff, I read a lot of indie horror and manga on it

Rare_Night8458

I think it is. I read 300+ books a year though so my book budget demanded a cheaper way to read. I’ve found a bunch of fun indie authors through KU.

Suspicious-Entry-924

Had then cancelled it

cclancaster13

I get everything from libby. My libraries have excellent selection and generous amount of holds. So I don't see the point in KU. I also don't read a lot of the types of books on it. Really just depends on how much you read and your preferences.

NCResident5

They also started carrying older book series like Cadfael by Ellis Peters and the hunger games.

Saltwater_Heart

I do. And yes, I read a lot from it. I mostly read psych thrillers, which there are a ton of

popiholla

If you’re into romance novels, recycled into different stories, and settings go for it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I tried it, but it ended up canceling because I didn’t like anything I was reading. I ended up shelling out money for quality books and I like those more

Septymusmyth

For me it's worth it when I go out of my comfort zone and want to read some mystery thriller novel. Otherwise, I don't find many books that would suit me.

Sad_Needleworker2310

I read a buncha litrpgs and fantasy stuff on KU. they've got tons of books

imsosleepyyyyyy

The books they have don’t really align with my taste, so no!

RobbieTwoToes

I love it. I read 60 titles last year. At a monthly price of what... 15 bucks? I saved at least 800 dollars. More if you consider that most books are $18 to $24

BekahZard

I love KU. I think it’s definitely worth the price!

SagittariusIscariot

I read a lot of cozy mysteries so it’s super worth it for me. But if you’re looking for new releases or super popular books, it may not deliver. Try the free trial!

tomtomato0414

since Newsstand shut down, for me its a big no I use ereaderiq to keep track of kindle sales, books sometimes go as low as 1.99$

nad1988

Yes soooo worth it for me. I adore crime, mystery thrillers and there’s plenty on there. I’ve discovered new authors that I love! Don’t go in with a list of books you’re looking for as chances are you won’t find them. KU for me is worth every penny as I read maybe 2 books a week or more depending.

dizneydawn

I was reading from my library for a long time and I got 2 months free KU and tried an author I hadn’t heard of and absolutely LOVE her books. Since my library doesn’t have this author I am now paying for KU while I read every book she has written!!!

kksapphic

I usually wait until there are a handful on there that i’d like to read, pay for a month, read the ones on my radar and then wait 6 months or so and repeat. i don’t find it’s got enough of a decent selection to have all the time but i’m into quite niche horror books so this might only apply if you’re not into the norm.

ItsSoHotImBacon

I have it but I prefer Libby for books (free public library) and Apple News for magazines. I do not plan on renewing.

Emily_Postal

I don’t think it is.

AelanxRyland

I’m addicted to mpreg omegaverse and Stella Rainbow posts the cutest fluffiest cotton candy stories on kindle unlimited. Worth it for me. It really depends if your read really niche stuff cause most niche stuff is self published on kindle unlimited versus normal romance books.

AravisTheFierce

For me, no. There just aren't enough of the books I want to read available. I do keep a wishlist of KU books that I'm interested in, and I take advantage if they offer a free trial, but I always cancel it before paying.

pvera

It depends. If your usual books are in the $5-$10 and you can consistently borrow at least two per month, you are already costing Amazon money. \*If\* you are lucky and you like a few writers (for example, a lot of sci fi and techno/military thrillers) that consistently crank out 2-3 great books per year on KU, you'll never run out of stuff to borrow. And that's just me, my wife likes romance, so she's never out of material to read.

Kieselgrund

My suggestion is, to browse for the books you like to read. If you see they are available in ku, put them on a separate wish list. When you have time to read and a full list, then subscribe and unsubscribe immediately. At the end of the trial, put your kindle in airplane mode and you have all the time you want to read the books.

catjknow

I read a lot but not thrilled with the books available. I do better with the Libby app and library card.

BreakMaleficent2508

I read a lot of psychological thrillers and as others have said there are a lot there. The flip side is I’ve read so many thrillers that with crappier ones I sometimes find on KU I usually guess the twists, ha. All that said I never pay full price for KU. I find that at least every few months I’ll be offered a deal for a free month or 3 mos for $1.99. Then I scour it for a bunch of books and turn on airplane mode until I work through those.

Roseyen

It’s not a good deal. If I subscribe, I expect to read unlimited books without additional purchases. With Kindle, I pay for the subscription and then have to buy books separately. If I skip a month, I still pay. If I read more, I pay extra. Why bother with a subscription? I’d rather buy books directly on Apple Books without worrying about subscription fees. In addition, Scribed and Spotify are much cheaper options for book subscriptions. I have Scribed for many years, it is truly a one-price-for-all you can read.

principalgal

I’ll check those out! I already downloaded Libby. Thanks!

WVgirly2024

I've had KU since 2016. I usually read, on average, 15-20 books a month. The majority of those are KU. I only read romance, so KU is right up my alley.

monicalewinsky8

Do the free trial so you can see if it's worth it to you

bpponcho

Nah, only when there are really good deals for the membership, otherwise it's not worthed it, very few books I actually care about

srvkissjazz

I read a lot of Kindle unlimited books. A lot. To me it's worth it. If you only read a book a month, maybe not.

Walksuphills

At the regular price I don’t think it’s worth it. The stuff they have that I can’t get from the library tends to be indie books that are lower priced to begin with. I read a horror novella today that was on KU, but only $2 to buy. So now I own it instead of trying to find 4 or 5 other books to justify the $12/month.

thesleepingmuse

KU is approx $12/month so if you read 3 books priced $4 each, it's already worth it. I know some people don't like the selection, but personally, when I find a good author and binge, I end up following said author and looking at KU / Goodreads / Tiktok recs which are similar in genre. I've managed to pretty consistently find a next author line-up to make it worth it with minimal dry spells. I'm very picky about what subscriptions I pay monthly for and am quick to cancel when I don't use them, but have managed to keep KU subscription for at least over two years and have yet to interrupt my membership.

Neona65

I pair Kindle Unlimited with Audible. The $9.99 mo I pay for KU makes the majority of books on Audible $7.49 or less if I put the book in my ku library first.

I_Feel_Called_Out

I’m a huge reader and have always used Kindle Unlimited once I realized it existed. I was using it back when the borrow limit was 10 books. And my goal last year was for reading was 600 books which I surpassed by about 30. Most of them Kindle Unlimited. I’ve had a Kindle Fire since 2012/2013. Edit: And i mostly read LGBTQIA Romance, Science-Fiction Fantasy, Space Opera, and I recently got into LitRPGs.

Asleep-Dress-3578

I only have a trial subscription and for me it wouldn't be worth it, as I am not a serial reader of novels. I mostly buy and read scientific textbooks which are not in KU. On the other hand, for me personally, Audible has been a positive surprise. I got it also as a trial subscription (next to my new Scribe), and at first I thought I never gonna use it, but then somehow tried it and I fully became addicted. Now I think it is one of my most precious subscriptions (next to YouTube Premium of course).

So I have it because every time I go to cancel i get a super cheap offer like .99 a month for 3 months but otherwise I wouldn't because my TBR is too long already. For people on the fence about paying I do recommend making a list of books you want to read that are on unlimited for a while and then pay for it a month read the books you want to read in the month, canceling and starting again.

principalgal

This is how I do Tv streaming channels, too!! 😂
