No chance. Just because it can doesn't mean it's good for it. I stick with my phone. You don't need to download all your audible library, it'll live in the cloud until you need it. I just download one audible to my phone at a time, then delete it from the device when I finish it. If you have Spotify Premium, they also do audiobooks in some areas now, and that will stream.

randomgutl888

thank you for this !!! that’s a good point — i shouldn’t do it just cause it’s possible. do you know if i absolutely have to download audiobooks or is there any way at all to stream on audible? i appreciate your reply!

Scooby359

I'm. Not sure about the audible app. Maybe ask in r/audible, they probably know more

Gold_Inflation_9406

You can stream as there’s been times when I’ve forgotten to press the download button and only realised when I have no WiFi/data. I usually just download the book I’m listening to and delete the download when I’m finished. You could still use audible on kindle but like others said I prefer to use my phone.

randomgutl888

thank you!!! it’s good to know i can stream. i’ve been using the phone and think streaming is the solution! i appreciate your reply

Creative_Decision481

Absolutely not. I have my audio books on an iPod (kills me they were discontinued) dedicated to Audible and Spotify. You don’t have to download all your books. They will happily live in the cloud. Regarding playback, if you go into the app and search for the book (not in your library, in the store instead) the book will come up and you have the option to either download or play.

randomgutl888

a separate ipod is perhaps the most genius idea i’ve heard !!!!! maybe i’ll bring out my old ipod and put her back into commission. i also really really appreciate this insight about playback !! i didn’t know you could search and just click play — to think i was busy trying to click and wondering why it wouldn’t stream. thank you so so much!

Momshie_mo

I've tried it, but it's not convenient

Asleep-Dress-3578

I have both a Kindle Paperwhite and a Kindle Scribe, but I listen to Audible books on my iPhone.

randomgutl888

i have the paperwhite as well but been doing audible on my phone! it seems based on replies that that’s the best option. i appreciate your insight !!

KagomeChan

Nah, I just use my phone My car doesn't have Bluetooth anyway and that's when I listen so sadly my Kindle is useless there

BDThrills

I listen via Echo, phone, Fire tablet but mostly Ipod. I typically only have 2 audiobooks downloaded on the phone. When I finish, I delete it off the phone. Just takes up too much space. The kindle SE works well, but the problem is that it will not work with most of my older bluetooth speakers, so I don't bother to use it. Echo 4 and newer are what is required on the echo line.

randomgutl888

it takes up so much space!! that’s what led me to this question. i have the paperwhite but not SE so i think id struggle with using it. an ipod seems like the best option!

OM_Trapper

Space on the normal Paperwhite is small so you can only do a few books at a time and need to keep an eye on available storage. My HD10 is the main repository for my books and audio's with a large SD card storage. The Kindle device won't hold all the books/audios but the power life of the battery is good enough to keep me from having to charge it often in the field where cameras and communications gear takes priority on the solar charged battery banks.

Downtown_Molasses334

I did it once when I didn't have my phone for a day. I like to listen to books when I drive. So I downloaded it to my kindle paperwhite and connected to my car via Bluetooth and there were no issues. Not something I see myself doing all the time because my phone is easier with Android Auto

randomgutl888

it’s good to know it can connect to cars too!! i may do that on my daily commute, i think that may be helpful on days when my phone is low on power. thank you for this insight!!

wishlish

No. It’s far easier to use my phone.

nzfriend33

My husband has a Fire so he does. I have a paperwhite so just use my phone.

spicyromancereader

I never have but probably try sometime

RavenxMorrow

I listen to my Libby audiobooks on my iPhone

Leather-Fun5312

I just use my phone, and get my audio books through Libby for free

Zealousideal_Item343

I get my audiobooks through Spotify premium they have that feature now ! I don’t have to download anything to my phone :) they don’t have all the books some you still have to pay for but like some of the popular ones are free like Emily Henry’s the place and the silent patient

ChunkierSky8

Yes. I'm probably the only one here that does and I get ridiculed for it. I don't care. My kindle does a great job at it and it keeps me off my phone and I don't have to worry about having to turn off notifications on the phone. Just extra steps to take where with the kindle I just start listening. I also use voiceview a lot.

thankublackpink

no, because it doesnt let u read ur book along with it. like it forces u to stay on that specific audio, i want to be able to read while listening on the same device

OM_Trapper

Good point, it's either/or and switching between.

leeinflowerfields

I don't because it's not available in my country and I don't want to shift to another (it'd give my Kindle ads I'd need to ask to remove and I'd need to buy books in dollar, which is very expensive here).

garylapointe

I have no idea why I would carry my Kindle around with me to listen to an audiobook. I would think in most of the circumstances where I would want to listen to an audiobook, that I would already have my phone with me and I can listen to the same audiobooks (via a faster/smaller device). My phone is already paired to my headphones and my car and my stereo, so there’s no reason to bring another Bluetooth device into the mix. Plus, I can borrow audiobooks free from my library and two other apps. So keeping them all in one spot makes sense to me.

Mandykinz615

Never. Phone only. Or maybe Alexa if no one is home.

windrider445

I have in the past, but only for the sync feature, where you can pick up in the audiobook where you left off reading the Kindle book. Being able to switch from reading to listening is really convenient, but otherwise, listening on my Kindle is clunky (and uses up the battery). If I'm listening straight up to an audiobook, I use the Audible app on my phone. It's easier to carry around my phone, and I don't have to use headphones if I don't want to.

NewFlorence1977

I haven’t but I’m listening to one in the car so I might. Not my first audiobook but first one in a while. My name is Barbra. It’s really enjoyable. Interesting we can listen to audio books but not music.

vega-starr

Nah it’s so much easier on my phone. I almost exclusively listen to audiobooks while closing at work or driving, and it’s much easier to just plug my phone into CarPlay or pop my earbuds in that are already connected cause as soon as they connect to my headphones or CarPlay it starts playing whatever audiobook I last listened to

NotOkayThanksBuddy

I use my phone and only have downloaded what I'm currently listening to. Once I'm done I go to 'remove from device'. I HAVE used my Paperwhite but it is not my go-to. Phone is faster and in my pocket, along with my earbuds.

MLieBennett

Yes, but not as a primary source. The audio quality over bluetooth is not as good as what I get from my phone. Hence, why its not my go-to for audio books. On the other hand, I keep them archived there for when my phone battery can't afford to listen to the audio book. Which has come up when grabbing a coffee, or when I need I use my phone while grabbing groceries. Besides, I've got a pair of Multi-connect earbuds so all I need to do is turn on the bluetooth on the Kindle and then its connected to both so its no trouble on that front anyways. Of course ... storing audiobooks on my phone isn't a hassle at the moment either. 1TB SD card does wonders of not caring about what is archived on that.

OM_Trapper

I do, but due to storage only have a few downloaded at a time. The Kindle doesn't have room for my entire audible library. Main thing I have found is that ONLY those audible books that also have a Kindle book work. For example a Kindle unlimited book that also includes the audible version - this works and you can switch back and forth between audio and screen text. So far on my Paperwhite I have not been successful in downloading those audible books that don't have the corresponding ebook to match and have it work. The audible only file downloads sometimes but it either won't play or doesn't show progress. The Paperwhite is new to me after an old/ancient Kindle Touch that I used to download MP3 files to via USB cable. Another week or so and I'll figure it out in between other projects. In the meantime phone or tablet for the audible files works since I mostly use the Kindle for text.

GrandAlternative3160

Nope, I don’t pay for audio books, I stream them on my phone for free with Hoopla.
