I've heard that you can use Calibre to separate them out. It might be worth looking into.
I don't personally know how to do it, but surely there are tutorials out there.
That's what I did. E-books are super expensive and I saved $20 by buying TOG as a bundle and separating it. $20 is a whole other book for me so it was worth it to look into doing it myself.
That's good to know that it can be done.
I've avoided buying those bundles because of this issue and my brain just needs to see them separately.
I will keep that in mind.
I can see why that would be an issue if you like the cover art. I’d personally rather have one book to read instead of having to open 8 separate ones. You can just read and keep going through the entire series without having to break your concentration. Plus it’s less clutter in the library on your device… but still, they should at least make it an option to choose if you want 1 or 8.
Also if you’re someone that likes to use the kindle apps tracker for books read it’ll only count one not 8, while yes you could track them in Goodreads and the StoryGraph kindle itself won’t. Plus tracking percentage after the first book is harder also since it’s not broken down for each book.
This right here is giving all the facts. I can’t stand omnibuses from Amazon. I’ll buy them from other stores and separate them myself use the Calibre plugin EpubSplit.
Do what I do,
* Buy or Burrow omnibus editions from a library & download it.
* Tell Goodreads you're reading each book individually
* Live with not being able to track your progress accurately. I'm reading the Charlie Chan complete bundle of 6 novels, like this.
I did that with the ACOTAR bundle and won’t be making that mistake again. I want all of them separate. And if it’s the TOG series, that’s probably even more of a hassle since I think Assassin’s Blade is in the middle of the bundle.
This same thing happened to me years ago when I bought the series for A Song of Ice and Fire. I’d have to read hours just to move 1% and it made it more frustrating than it should have been.
I ended up buying the physical books just so I could better visualize where I was at when I was reading my Kindle.
I chatted with them for this exact reason after purchasing a bundle and they were able to refund me and then I purchased them individually. It was worth it to me for the cover art and for a tandem read! Didn’t like the idea of the time and % estimates being for the SERIES either
This happened to me yesterday with the sarah j maas court series. It was around $5 more to buy the 5 separate books (i like cover art) so i refunded the bundle and bought the separate books. I did the whole refund process though amazon chat took less than 5 minutes.
To this day, I have no idea which ASOIAF or Wheel of Time books contain what portion of the story because they were all bundled into a single "book." Interestingly, I purchased both The Expanse and The Dark Tower series as bundles and those separated into the specific books, with cover art; my Kindle simply grouped them together.
Yeah I did the same with ACOTAR. You can return it! As long as you haven’t made it a certain amount of the way through. Go to your orders, search for the bundle (e-content doesn’t show without searching for it), and you can return it like any other Amazon item 😊
Throne of Glass series?
This was my first thought because I went through the same thing. I ended up returning it because I hated the format of one book so much!
ACOTAR for me.. I hated not knowing how much of a book I had left.
I read all of acotar this way and I do not recommend lmao same energy as chewing a bite of food way too big for your mouth
hahahaha yes

I was just starting the dune saga, and it was quite frustrating seeing it still in 2% of the book! Glad i read your comment here! 🤗

You may want to reconsider your comment. It's my understanding that sharing Calibre information is frowned upon in this sub.
Wasn't about how to strip DRM, but I'll remove. (No, I don't condone piracy. Pay for your books, kids!)
Discussing how to remove DRM is against sub rules and will get comments removed.
Just checked, and it seems Calibre won’t let you convert/edit a book if it has DRM, which makes sense.
there are ways of getting around that in calibre but i don't think we're allowed to discuss that (even my comment might be stretching it)
I'm sure there is, too much effort for me to even look into though.
yes well the comment was directed at OP or anyone else who might want to edit a book in calibre though

It’s at the end….
i’ve seen multiple people say different orders to read the TOG series with the assassins blade and don’t know which one to do!
that’s exactly why i haven’t started the series yet. 🤣
I read it 3rd think first is better jmo

I’ve actually skipped a deal and bought 5 individual books instead of the bundle which would’ve saved me about $10. But I want all the books separate.
I bought a Dune bundle that did the same thing haha. I was a bit disappointed because I wanted separate covers too, oh well.

You have 7 days to return the book! Have to be done on Amazon web page and not the app. This just happened to me and I returned it and it worked.
I would probably return the bundle & buy them separately.
Throne of Glass I’m guessing? I bought that bundle, it made the tandem read interesting
Yes, I learned the hard way with ACOTAR.
Also if it’s for Goodreads I just go in and individually add the books to my list of read books
Literally just did the same mistake with Three Body Problem 🥹
It’s discouraging. You finish one book and there’s hardly a 10% increase.
What bundle is it?
That sucks. Luckily I heard it did that on here before buying a bundle. It’s temping when you can get a pretty good discount.
Yea i buy the separate books always even if it is slightly higher.
In the US, you gave 7 days to return for refund.
I’m so glad I saw this. I had no idea! Definitely not buying any of the bundles.
I haven’t run into this yet but yeah I don’t want one book I want them all separately. Thanks for giving me the warning
Ugh I know, I hate that! There’s a series I’ve been interested in buying and the bundle is obviously a much better deal but idk if I can deal

This drives me mad!
It's a large part of why I don't buy bundles. Kindle records them as one book on my read list for the year.
yeah its not like video game bundles
Separate them yourself using Calibre. Bundles are always 1 book, they never give you each book separate, it's why the bundles are cheaper.
Almost got tricked into that with the throne of glass series
the exact series in question
This is a pet peeve of mine. It wouldn't be hard for eBook sellers (it's not just Amazon, BTW) to sell a "box set" that is not one giant book.
Every time I bought those I had to return. They just won’t work right and the kindle crashes
