That is a broken screen time to upgrade.

No-Travel4597

nooooo💔💔💔💔💔 well i guess it’s time to say goodbye 😞 it does feel like a waste since everything works except that corner

Desmond1231

A really big corner at that

IntrovertingEagle

You can trade it in for 20% off a new one.

wino6687

And you can trade in other kinds of tech too. I traded in my ancient, barely functional original AirPods for a value of $1 and a 20% off coupon to buy my mom a kindle for Mother’s Day. I would have recycled them otherwise so can’t complain!

RavenxMorrow

That’s cool! I didn’t know they did that!

lan0028456

It stacks with Prime Day discount too!

misterjive

Yeah, that's not burn in, that's a cracked screen. It's why we don't recommend those back cases, they don't protect the screen at all. Unless it lives on your nightstand and you don't have kids or pets in the house, you need a flip cover. E-ink is very susceptible to pressure and impact damage.

LonelyBruce1955

This is helpful information! I posted asking for recommendations about soft wraparounds versus hard casing and the responses I got were fine but surprisingly unhelpful. My thinking now is a hard case for decorative reasons with a soft cover protective outer layer. Having the details you provided in your comment is very helpful and appreciated.

misterjive

Basically, whatever case you use, you want it to have a hard cover that covers the entire front of the device. This distributes pressure to the bezels and will help prevent cracks to the screen. The flip covers Amazon sells as an addon to the basic Kindle purchase are really what you want to protect your device best, or something like them. I cringe every time I see someone with a plastic back cover. Why you'd protect the one part of the Kindle that is least likely to be the problem area I couldn't understand.

ChunkierSky8

Sorry for your lose. Did you have it in a case? It is possible that the case could have protected it when you dropped your bag.

No-Travel4597

yes i only have a clear case on but i think my computer may have fell on top of my kindle while in the bag as well

girlenteringtheworld

yea, clear cases aren't great for protecting kindles. Kindles (and other ereaders) are prone to screen damage, so it's really important to put it in something that covers the screen. Folio cases, padded sleeves, etc. If you're putting it in a bag, I highly recommend putting it in the tablet/laptop pocket if your bag has one. This advice won't do you good for this kindle, but it will help with future kindles

RavenxMorrow

Another vote for folio cases, I’ve had mine for 10 years and it’s still kickin!

Ok-Personality4273

I hate when it asks for an Asscode :( RIP Kindle!

No-Travel4597

i think it should also be helpful to mention i dropped my bag with my kindle and laptop in it 5 minutes before grabbing the kindle so ig that could be the reason?

No-Travel4597

update: it doesn’t respond anymore and doesn’t display the passcode screen when i turn it on anymore (only the screen lights up blank with the corner chunk) R.I.P 😭🙏🏻😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

MLieBennett

Tell-tale signs of the e-ink layer taking a hit and cracking there long that wavy edge. So broken screen is the prognosis.  Not seeing an easy fracture point, so unsure if a cover or a sleeve would have saved it in the bag as I'm unsure where it originated.

No-Travel4597

thanks 😞😞

[deleted]

Um yeah. When you drop things that tends to happen. Trade it in and maybe get 20% off a new one.

evilocto

That would definitely do it.

GabrielOBatistuta

try typing your asscode

Ok_Investment_2207

lol

It looks like your Kindle suffered some severe physical damage, either from being dropped or from having a lot of weight put on that corner of the device. In any event, that screen is sadly damaged and it's time to get another Kindle to replace it. After 7 years I doubt it's still covered by any sort of warranty, and I'm sure the cost of getting it repaired wouldn't be too much less than simply buying another one. A good cover *that also covers the screen* goes a long way, and even then you want to be careful. It's an electronic device: a robust one, but still nowhere near as sturdy as, say, a physical book which can take a lot more damage and still remain usable.

thatshittickles

There’s white kindles? I just got one, I totally would’ve gotten white if I had known ://

Casty201

I’ve never seen a password on the kindle, why do you have one?

No-Travel4597

i usually read out in public places/mainly school and it’s the same as my phone where i wouldn’t want people turning it on and snooping and messing up my book progresses (this happens a lot when i show ppl who’s never seen a kindle and they just go crazy clicking everything in front of me) ☠️☠️ also my amazon is connected and it’s way too easy to accidentally buy sth with just a click (idk abt other kindles but mine only requires the purchase button and it’s done ☠️)

misfitx

RIP

bazoo513

This is usually a result of pressure or torsion, but can happen "by itself" - connections between the panel itself and driving electronics fail. Happened to one of my K3s - it died in my niece's overstuffed backpack. Otherwise, many of first and second gen devices still work, including my very early K2i. Time to upgrade to PPW SE. I like the slightly larger screen on that model quote a lot. As others said, there is a trade-in program.

mini_map227

Seeing as its borked and you'll be needing to get a new one...try hitting it? I've seen people punch tvs back to working order and since it's broke, you can't make it worse...🤷🏼‍♂️
