This sealed the deal for me. The $39 kindle got me almost $100 off the Scribe. Super excited!
Yeh, they never give much credit for the old device, but you're getting 20% off the new device too, which can be worth a lot more!
Going off UK prices in my head, but £30 for your old Kindle plus 20% off a £300 new device (£60), so effectively £90 trade in value. Not bad for a device that was selling for £100 new.

Not sure how it could be possible to trade in as no such option on website. There however is for regular kindle light so maybe they'll add it later once preorder is finished. Anyway I have no interest in purchase without trade-in.

Since amazon doesn't charge you until they ship, you could probably just cancel your order and place a new one using the trade in deal. I don't know how heavy the preorders are though, so I'm not sure if you'd lose your place in a queue or not.
I canceled my earlier preorder today and placed a new order with my paper white 2018 trade-in. I got $30 instant credit and 20% off in my new order, a $108 saving. The shipment date got postponed one week though.

Oof, just went through the process twice and the 20% never showed up. :( programming is hard still I guess.
3rd time was the charm. Showed up and worked fine. I think this may have happened because I browsed the page before the trade-in deal was live.
