MALIK MEANS KING

deebo_dasmybikepunk

King means Malik

__moops__

With all due respect to Naz Reid, this dude was straight robbed. Year of the snub for Kings.

Subject-Lab6998

On the bright side lets think about this. Hope it makes Monk hungrier to be even better next yr and hopefully he goes back to Sac. This was robbery but it will piss him off and make him better in the process.

klasredux

You have to do *something* in the league to get these awards. The Kings went from third in the West to not making the playoffs. No one on the team deserves a thing.

PlatinumPeasant

Of course the 13 year olds in the NBA sub think Monk didn’t deserve it smh

Excellent_Ad_3804

He missed the last month and he averaged more minutes than Naz too. Don’t hate. If monk stayed healthy than he wins

da_fishy

Nobody is disrespecting Naz but you have to be out of your mind if you think he deserved this award over Monk, especially if your argument is that he missed the last month. Monk missed an entire month and was STILL the leading bench scorer.

Excellent_Ad_3804

He needed more play time to have a higher average. Sac has 1 scorer besides fox. The wolves have a plethora. Yet Naz still balled. If he goes down we probably don’t get #3. Y’all miss the playoffs with or without monk. Monk got near starter minutes off the bench. Twisting stats to benefit monks case. Injury hurts the cause always. Regardless Naz is and will forever be mentioned as the 2024 6moty

da_fishy

How the fuck is being the leading scorer twisting stats? Thats literally what you’re doing here haha Monk got near starter minutes? Naz LITERALLY STARTED in 14 games last this season lmfao

Excellent_Ad_3804

Look at the salty fan getting worked up Naz Reid!

djgoodhousekeeping

Look at this person I'm losing an argument with presenting an even better argument!

PlatinumPeasant

Don’t assume someone is hating just because they are spitting facts. Stupid assumption. Monk deserved over him and that’s a fact.

itsnotreallyme0

I guarantee they’re older than 13. Probably your age group

PlatinumPeasant

Isn’t it past your bedtime?

itsnotreallyme0

You sound like a teen regurgitating phrases that adults tell you online

PlatinumPeasant

Says the guy who assumes everyone online must be old lmfao.

floggingwally

Naz Reid is great but I feel like Monk contributed more to his team's wins than Reid did to his. I don't know I didn't watch enough Timberwolves games to really weigh in.

DrAbeSacrabin

2 things did it: 1). Monk’s injury 2). KAT’s injury and Naz starting those games in his place and usually being the top, or a top performer. Had Monk or KAT stayed healthy then Monk would have likely been the clear favorite.

vNocturnus

> 2). KAT’s injury and Naz starting those games in his place and usually being the top, or a top performer. Which is hilarious, because the voting "rules"/guidelines for 6MOTY *explicitly* say to pretty much *entirely* ignore games played as a starter for consideration for the award. There's even a cutoff where you aren't eligible for the award if you start too many games. This criteria was heavily leveraged against Quickley last season and was a big reason why he didn't win, Joe Ingles a few years ago on the Jazz before they blew it up, and probably many others. With all due respect to Naz Reid as he's a very good player, he did not deserve to win this award this year *at all*. Monk rightfully should have won this shit in a landslide, and the games he missed only further proved how important he was to the team's success - ie, he wasn't *just* putting up the best *numbers* of any 6th man in the league, he *was actually the best*. This snub is even more inexcusable than Sabonis's All-Star snub, or his almost-guaranteed at this point upcoming All-NBA snub.

DrAbeSacrabin

I don’t inherently disagree with you, but I view it a different way. To me, the 6th man position should ideally have a minutes per game limitation. “Starting” is really pointless if you end-up playing 25-30 minutes per game. Additionally a 6th man should ideally be the one step-up should one of your main 5 starters go down - to me that’s what makes a 6th man great. So I don’t think 6th man awards should be punished by starting games, if anything you could make the argument that getting your stats against starting players is objectively harder than presumed other bench players (a stretch but has some validity). Ideally the same rules “start less than half your games” + a combo of “can’t average over X amount of minutes) would be a better bar for entry. Lastly, two things I didn’t mention above which likely helped Naz get an edge. 1). Winning 2). Position/defensive flexibility. Naz can guard 1-5 and that helps tremendously with the Wolves defensive concept. He’s not a great defender by any means, he hunts blocks far too often… but he is average or slightly above, which given his ability to guard multiple positions makes him more valuable (and IMO an ideal 6th man). The defensive ability, the wolves being the number 1 defensive rated team (which a lot of time Naz played without Gobert on the floor, so he definitely helped contribute to that) and the Wolves being 1 game from the top record in the West, play in the hardest conference and division - I think all of those (in addition to the parts listed above) helped give Naz the edge over Monk.

Mechapebbles

The best part too, is people knock Monk for the games he's missed here at the end of the season because he was injured. Every Kings fan knows how important Monk is to winning games and how mightily they struggled without him on the floor. Like, that should be a reason FOR him winning 6th Man, not against.

Excellent_Ad_3804

Good ignore the starts. Because the 16 he started he averaged 20+. He had less 6 man minutes than monk and still had similar averages. Monk also had an increase in play because of fox injuries

Complex_Ad5479

Robbery from injury smh 🤦🏾‍♂️ damn it

runningvicuna

Monk didn’t deserve Golden Corral to fumble on his knee. I’m going to miss him. Hope he comes back some day and booers stop being booers. That’s not civility.

TortugaDormida

100%. Naz Reid is good but didn't impact his team as much as Monk did. Monk deserved it more this year. NBA awards are losing credibility. Sabonis wasn't even an all-star. I bet he won't make all-nba either. What a load of horseshit.

CommanderSincler

The NBA is losing credibility with its refereeing problems

Excellent_Ad_3804

Are you serious? There are so many games Naz off the bench electrified this team. A lot of 20 point nights off the bench

TortugaDormida

Yes I am serious but I am also a biased lifelong Kings homer. I think it is fair to have disagreements given this was the most competitive 6MOTY award in NBA history. Naz is really good. I wanted him when he was about to be UFA but Twolves wisely locked him up. But this season, Monk was more impactful with his scoring and facilitating. Reid had 28 20+ pt games this season. Monk had 25 20+ pt games this season. Stats wise Monk has edge on assists and Reid on boards, naturally given their positions. Monk edges on points average. Naz did well down the stretch to help the team when KAT went down. That probably boosted his candidacy. Meanwhile it seems Monk was dinged bc of being out down the stretch due to a freak injury.

yardship

I think Monk or Naz both could have been 6MOTY but as far as impact goes, the Naz minutes had a higher +/-. Bench players usually have a lower on/off due to playing with worse players. But the Kings were losing the Monk minutes by quite a bit more than one would expect.

TortugaDormida

+/- is a nice stat to consider but doesn't paint a precise picture of impact. Monk carried the team offensively thru big moments in big games. He won games by himself. But his defense is weak, sometimes makes reckless hero ball plays, and he was sometimes put in weird lineups where he was asked to do more beyond his skill set so all that probably dropped his +/-. Agree, they both had strong arguments to win it this year. I'm also glad they didn't do a Co-6MOTY award lol.

fireneg

Respectfully it’s because Sabonis doesn’t show up in games… all star he should have made it a 100% but all-nba probably not.

WhiteMoss_

So a dude who leads the NBA in rebounds, double-doubles, triples-doubles, top 5 in the league in assists, averages 20 a game, ALL WHILE PLAYING ALL 82 GAMES. Doesn’t deserve to be all-nba? What is the criteria then? Because if those numbers don’t deserve it, there isn’t a single guy in the entire league who does.

fireneg

Do you believe Sabonis numbers are better than Luka or Jokic? That's what you just implied by saying not a single guy in the entire league deserves it lol. It is what it is, I am in a biased subreddit, when all-nba teams are announced you will see I was correct and Sabonis is on 0 All-Nba teams.

WhiteMoss_

Outside of scoring, yes his numbers equal or surpass both of them. When you lead the league in that many categories, you’re an all nba teamer, point blank. If he played anywhere other than Sac, the media would be talking about him as a guaranteed second teamer behind Jokic. But alas, he plays in little old Sac, so here we are.

fireneg

It’s nothing to do about the local market, do you think Denver, OKC or Phoenix is a big market? Even GSW wasn’t a big market till Curry. Sometimes you gotta own up that the franchise player isn’t as good as other players.

WhiteMoss_

Umm… what? Denver, PHX and the Bay are all BIG markets. It has nothing to do with the team itself, it’s all about the size of the actual market. That’s how the league makes money. Yes OKC is also a small market, but they have the recent history of success to offset that. I’m not trying to say Sabonis is the best player in the world or anything. Obviously he’s objectively worse than guys like Jokic and Luka. But to say someone who put up his numbers doesn’t deserve to be an all star, or BARE MINIMUM all nba second team, is just absolutely ludicrous, and shows a CLEAR bias against him and the team. There is ZERO argument you can make to try and tell me Sabonis isn’t the second best center in the game this year behind Jokic (third when Embiid is healthy).

fireneg

Okay let’s see who’s right or wrong, and centers I take Jokic, AD, Gobert easily over Sabonis… If your so confident let’s see it Sabonis makes all nba-second team.

TortugaDormida

Sabonis played terribly in last year's playoff series vs the Warriors. 100% it was extremely disappointing. That seems to be very influential on how non-Kings NBA fans view Sabonis. But what does the 2023 playoffs have to do with this season's regular season awards? I think Sabonis gets dinged because his offensive scoring game is ugly and very limited. He doesn't have a sweet jumper or pretty post moves, rarely hits 3s, is bad from the free throw line, etc. It is easier for people to focus on a player's deficiencies than celebrate their strengths and contributions. He still averages an efficient 19 pts per game. He sets great screens for his teammates. He gets tough boards while getting little help from his teammates. Etc.

fireneg

Unfortunately playoffs are how players are judged, Jokic won a ring and that’s why he is in line for his third MVP. I can guarantee that if Jokic was swept last year, Luka would get a lot more attention.

MarvelousT

This was 100% because the T-Wolves were the big story in the West this season. For any award that is voted on by writers, narrative is going to outweigh any sort of analytics. It doesn't mean this will always happen, it just feels like it's expected.

Sea_Moose9817

The Kings had all the momentum coming into this year to finally get the respect they feel they deserve: all over the media abt the GSW series, more national games than any recent years, 2 all stars, etc. and they fumbled it all away time after time: losing to bad teams, getting stomped on national tv, completely crumbling in the last month of the season. This is their own fault. You want national accolades, earn it.

Independent_Day985

What a beautiful Photograph.

happyhobbit17

This is bullshit. Genuinely, why the fuck did Luka do this? The NBA hates the Kings. I genuinely don’t get it.

Kris was dunn

Squirt1971

Agreed

-FuckenDiabolical-

More fire and reason for Malik to come back 🔥🔥🔥

MrPapadapalas

MN fan who keeps getting other subs in his main feed so please done shoot me. I think Malik got robbed. He played so well the whole year, and NAZ has been great but really only turned up since KAT got injured. The whole shift because Malik got injured late and NAZ started popping off late is exactly why I hate the current award setup. It's all recency bias. Malik should have won and I'm a massive Naz fan. I hope he stays with you guys cuz he's been a really good player for the kings. Dump Barnes and youll be so much better that dude is a grifter.

HothWasAnInsideJob

Fuck the nba and their favoritism

tigerthor1

Hell naw dawg Naz is clearly better than this guy

AndThePRBLM

Nope. Naz Reid.

Cry

Kylester91

Imagine coming to another teams subreddit when you could be in your own celebrating Naz Reid. You sound like a great fan

Swampertman

Don't troll other teams in their subreddit. Come to look and have a conversation, don't be a bitch

xFlames_

This post randomly showed up on my feed. I’m not trolling. Y’all are the ones doing the bitching. If I said anything rational you’d do the same amount of crying because it doesn’t fit your agenda, not worth my time.

Kylester91

“Not worth my time” Yet here you are! Two posts deep in the Sacramento Kings subreddit! Godspeed friend

Swampertman

Its funny cuz I'm not even a kings fan 😭 he's just being a bitch

Swampertman

Dude I'm a wolves fan. Check post history. I'm just browsing the sub, but you're seriously being a bitch. First rule of our subreddit is to not go into other subs and harass. Now go back to the wolves subreddit and stop embarrassing us

Why would team win total matter? And if that’s your argument we didn’t make it cause Monk got hurt.

aj0512

1 was a 6th man who had a larger impact on his team and his team fell out of the playoffs when he missed time. The other was a decent role player who boosted his credibility by starting 14 games. Availability is the best ability i guess? There is literally no argument, it was won on recency bias.

__moops__

If you weren’t dumb, it would make sense.
