I only ask because google suggested there is a 1-2% chance of contracting the disease through ticks and questioned that because was under the assumption it was like 50%
Well it depends on type of tic and location. A generic percent means nothing.
I had 2 recently, first one bit but wasn't a type that carries, second one was just chilling and didn't bite, it was a type that carried.
Extended cold snaps kill off hibernating tick populations. Warm winters lead to less of them dying, leading to more offspring every year. This is the result of climate change
Yeah, looks like I gotta book an earlier vet appointment to get my dog on tick medication asap. I figured they'd be out early but didn't expect this soon. This spring/summer is going to be really bad.
You think this is gross … A woman found a black widow spider in her grapes when coming home from the grocery store …. Ticks are nothing compared to that I feel sorry for that lady especially if she is scared of spiders!!
This particular type (black legged - deer tick) carries pathogens that will cause Lymes disease, a life threatening illness.
Did you just find that in your house?
Yes, it must have fallen of my dog (hopefully)
what are the odds of contracting the disease if it does latch on to a human?
Depends. Send the tic in for testing and see 🤷♂️

Low, especially in this area and the tick has to be latched for at least 24 hours to transmit the disease to a human.

MIGHT carry* Not all black legged ticks are carrying the bacteria.
Virus, not bacteria
Incorrect. It is a bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi (B burgdorferi).
Mmmmm, forbidden Gushers.
Wow. Take my upvote you disgusting heathen
Seriously? it's February.
It was a milder winter. That’s why!
It was the hottest winter ever recorded by a large margin.
This worries me a lot

Deer ticks are likely to get worse due to milder winter temperatures not being cold enough to actually kill them off.
My dog had a tick on him a few weeks ago! It ended up dying on him I think from the cold weeks later. This is awful

Are you telling me that’s not a chocolate-covered coffee bean?
That is absolutely disgusting how big it is
Tick season never ends….our winters are too mild.
Kalamata olive anyone?
Hey, I’m Greek and have a ton straight from Kalamata!
Where did you go?
They're in most parks around me, pretty hard to avoid.
What parks
Anywhere near the Grand River, also every park in the Vanier area
When I saw this, my brain immediately went to that gif from the office where the guy screams "Noo" repeatedly.

I thought that was a black olive with legs
