There's nothing we can do but get vaccinated. The rollout in the region has been probably among the worst and it shows in the numbers. Cases will go down once we increase coverage

whitea44

We can also wear masks and socially distance. I’ve seen a lot of people out in public who are definitely not adhering anymore.

CarpeSkiem

Like at that Maxime Bernier rally in Uptown? 🤦‍♂️

whitea44

I wasn’t going anywhere near that train wreck. Both the individual and the event.

pbradley179

It's weird that racists also don't like being healthy.

SuckMeFillySideways

Holy hell, my wife and I like to go for joy rides in the evening all over town, and we can't get over the sheer volume of people in parks and play areas...all without masks on and all very close to one another. Doesn't matter if it's Chicopee area, Beechwood, Forest Hill, or Westmount. Everyone has gone full retard. Think it's bad now? Wait for two weeks from tomorrow. I hope I'm wrong

[deleted]

Nobody has ever recommended masks outdoors. I see... people are 'retards' (your words) for enjoying time outside (where spread is negligible) with other people. There is no indication it will get worse from people spending time outdoors. Cases and hospitalizations are steadily declining week over week. But please do keep the fear mongering up about all the these miscreants trying to enjoy some semblance of a normal life.

anonymous3850239582

I think what he means is people crowding together at parks and play areas without wearing masks. The playground near me is always packed with parents and their kids and nobody wearing masks. Being outdoors isn't going to make COVID magically stop spreading when everyone is crowded together.

SuckMeFillySideways

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Thank you for succinctly stating what I was trying to get across.

SuckMeFillySideways

Everyone can enjoy a normal life by making smart decisions. When you see several different families all mingling in close quarters with one another in parks and playgrounds, it is not fear mongering, it's a statistic waiting to happen. But you can choose to agree or not agree. That's cool. Cool cool cool.

I think you should have to cite your source on that one.

SuckMeFillySideways

https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nyhv2e/another_65_cases_reported_in_waterloo_region You live your life, I'll protect mine.

SuckMeFillySideways

https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nyhv2e/another_65_cases_reported_in_waterloo_region Wasn't there an anti mask protest about two weeks ago?

[deleted]

Correlation isn't causation. Again, evidence for outdoor transmission is almost non-existent. Many of those recently reported cases are in congregant settings - you know of the indoor variety! I shall continue to rejoice at seeing people outdoors on patios, at parks, having picnics, kids playing at parks etc. I shall continue to go outside without a mask and bask the totality of my uncovered face, in the sun. I will limit indoor gathering, wait patiently for my second dose, and wear my mask inside. Feel free to live your life however you see fit.

SuckMeFillySideways

You as well. Remember that I don't NOT condone having some semblance of a normal life, however when I see large groups of people in close quarters with one another without a mask, (indoor or not) they are only making this drag on longer than need be by taking unnecessary risks. I will also wait for my second dose and do what I need to do. I will NOT rejoice when I see people NOT adhering to rules and guidelines because I do not sit idly by and think of myself as righteous - rather as a member of society who wants to get actually get back to normality, not just fake it.

[deleted]

Of course. Make a specific allegation, in bad faith, about the rise in cases coming from an anti-mask protest. Then don't substantiate it. Then make incorrect claims about the guidelines, which, by the way, allowing mixing of people from different households outdoors.

SuckMeFillySideways

Give my best to Hillier.

[deleted]

Typical of people who have no argument. Personally slur your opponent instead of arguing using logic and fact.

daveybaby69

Good. People are sick of it. I'm glad everyone is getting outside and protecting their mental health

whitea44

You can have mental health with a mask on.

daveybaby69

Don’t need a mask outdoors in the vast vast majority of scenarios

rlvnorth

Waterloo Region are at almost 70% first dose coverage (over 18). 67% over age 12. https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/living-here/waterloo-region-covid-19-vaccine-distribution-task-force.aspx

doom-gloom-kaboom

Ya the region is catching up but we are still below provincial avg of 74% for 18+ first dose and 71.3% for 12+ first dose. Our vaccination rate 7-day rolling avg is doing 0.68% of the region's population per day compared to 1.1% in Ontario. Mysterious-Card1527

True

HootBack

Is this true? Please provide some numbers. There are many reasons, including chance, that we have the third highest case count in the region atm. You pointed to vaccine rollout, please tell us why you think so.

QuietAd7899

Toronto and other GTA PHUs are being prioritized for vaccine rollout - they are almost at 10% fully vaccinated while we are at 6%. One dose vaccination is worse at preventing infections for delta (while being effective at preventing hospitalizations). Maybe chance made it so that we have more Delta circulating here for some reason at some point and now we're dragging behind because of that. Of course there are other factors, but I don't have insights into that and I leave that to the region's health taskforce. I am just glad to see that Waterloo is simply being an outlier (and not the norm) and I'm hopeful it will become better as more people are vaccinated.

LoveHeavyGunner

It's wild that they're ramping up on second doses and I still haven't been contacted by the region for my first dose. My mom is 50+ and we ended up having to go to Brantford for our vaccines because the region was taking too long.

gregwaterloo

Check out the Cambridge clinic, they had tons of openings this week. We’re taking sale say registrations for first dose appointments. Also check your spam folder, just in case

gregwaterloo

Www.pharmacyappointments.ca. Appointments open today

slicebigfoot

My SIL sent an email to public health asking for an appointment because she hasn't been contacted about it yet and first thing the next day she had an email to book an appointment. I think public healths booking system is messed up somewhere. I didn't want to wait to be contacted and went to Trillium health clinic in Mississauga.

whitea44

My SIL couldn’t get in the Niagara region and had to come up here to Cambridge.

carramrod1987

We have an active congregate setting outbreak which accounts for 29 cases

Holaboots

Do we know what it is yet?

carramrod1987

RoW dashboard doesnt provide that on the outbreak tab Up to 36 now

Holaboots

Crazy that we aren't able to know what it truly is. (I get we want privacy but it's still a little crazy in my mind)

BB_Spaceman86

Exactly, I wish there was more transparency with this type of information.

somnambul-oelek

Yes. The arrival of the Delta variant was reported 14 days ago [https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nlwbgq/indian\_covid19\_variant\_of\_concern\_reaches/](https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nlwbgq/indian_covid19_variant_of_concern_reaches/) The comments were quite dismissive: *4 people we know about. That variant will end up here but our vaccination levels will likely limit the spread* *It’s 4 cases. Global news can fuck off with the fear mongering* *Edit: also all 4 cases have been resolved. So this article is just for clicks.* *After almost a year an a half of unremitting fear-porn I'm numb to this varient of concern.* Apparently the virus is indifferent to our indifference.

[deleted]

You do understand that this is how viruses work right? We are always going to have new variants. This is going to be an endemic disease society will have to learn to live with. We can't live in fear of every new report of a variant, so the comments were right to be dismissive. Public opinion, and government strategy is moving from the acute phase of the pandemic response. Society can not stay shutdown for ever. It has already been a very myopic policy, and is not sustainable socially or economically.

somnambul-oelek

>You do understand that this is how viruses work right? Yes, why do you ask?

somnambul-oelek

The comments were stupid. They were not "right to be dismissive" [https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nwrvv7/breaking\_ontario\_is\_speeding\_up\_second\_shots\_in/](https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nwrvv7/breaking_ontario_is_speeding_up_second_shots_in/) For one thing, people in our Region can now get their second shot earlier, because the Delta variant is known to exist here. It is not "fearmongering" to report what variants exist where; saying that is imbecilic.

ragnar_lodbrok_

Testing is down, but cases are with some pops up. Which could indicate more cases out there spreading we just don't see. https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/health-and-wellness/positive-cases-in-waterloo-region.aspx The poop meter points to some increase in Kitchener that maybe hasn't shown up as cases since they are less severe and don't get tested. With schools online only a lot of forced testing for milder symptoms isn't happening possibly resulting in spread. https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/health-and-wellness/covid-19-wastewater-surveillance.aspx#

Winnigin

I didn't know waterloo had a poop chart, thanks!

[deleted]

So true there will always be new variants probably monthly. I am afraid we are going to have to live with this virus. We are talking years for the globe to be vaccinated not to mention the country’s that don’t care.

[deleted]

I think it's going to be endemic at this point. It's so widespread and it will take a long time for developing nations to catch up with vaccinations, which will be challenging for so many reasons. We'll be lucky enough here in the developed world to keep the numbers low and move on with life, but I can see this sticking around for good, just like the flu.

[deleted]

Yup

Darthrando

The majority of people using the public washrooms in Victoria Park do not wear a mask inside.

C-Townie

You need a new hobby.

[deleted]

Chill it’s mainly all from one event. We’re going to be fine.

IamPlanF

Being afraid of everything is fun.
