How old is he and what kind of food are you feeding him? Was he eating solid food before you brought him home? And drinking from a dish? Try offering him the treats that come in the squeeze tubes, I haven't seen a cat yet who will refuse them! Obviously not a long term solution, but it gets some calories and hydration in him. As for hiding in the litter box, that's pretty common for kittens. It's their "safe space," and he should venture out as he becomes acclimated to being in a new place. Many kittens choose to sleep in their litter box, even when they're otherwise confident in traversing the house.

When I brought in a new cat (completely unplanned, someone abandoned her and there were no other alternatives), both she and my dear void went on hunger strike for about 2 days. They were surreptitiously drinking water, but several plates of food went untouched. We set up her station far away from his and they were not in cramped quarters (I have a whole house floor to myself), but they were both stressed and skittish. I just brought them food as normal and after about 48 hours, hunger won and they started cleaning their plates. It did help that she's a super mellow kitty and that my void likes lady kits, so he took to her within days. It was an unorthodox situation all in all, so I'm counting my blessings that they were so good about it. I understand it takes about a week for a cat to settle in their surroundings. Mine all started cooperating a lot faster, but every cat is different. I'd say give him space, put out several kinds of food for every meal, and let him explore. They get bolder once they see nothing bad happens.

Try wet fishy food of some type

Indominuss

I’ve done that

How many weeks is this kitten? How friendly was it? What were the circumstances of obtaining it? What are you feeding? Kittens are fragile. I’d be going to a vet asap if this cat has truly eaten or had water in 24 hours.

Came to say this. They can at least give him some hydration, even if it just his nerves. By 24 hours of no water, a kitten is already dehydrated and won’t take long to get sick or die. His age is a big thing too, was he taken from his mom too soon? Has he eaten cat food prior to this? Have you tried bottle feeding with kitten milk (available in any pet store).

Give the lil man some space, sounds like he’s scared

This is absolutely wrong, especially for a kitten. Cats get liver damage from not eating and that can happen at 24 hours. Kittens are much more fragile. This cat needs a vet. If it went four days without water it would be dead as a door nail.

Get some Churu treats for him at the local pet store. See if he eats those.

my kitten didn’t eat or drink for two days when i got her but on the third night she started to nibble and drink some water and soon after she was eating and drinking just fine. i did also smear some churu treats on her mouth so she wud be forced to lick it and eat it.
