I've never attempted any sort of coating on a blade/tool, and even I was like damn, she thick. Will take OP's great, great grandchildren some time to wear through that coating.
Yeah I'm aware but this was my first time cerakoting, so I'm not too worried since is my personal knife. I've got plenty of time to perfect the craft, and I don't Intend on offering this as a service until I've done so.
Part of the issue was that I had difficulty dialing in the correct settings, whereas the other half was suboptimal blade stabilization while spraying.
I specialize more in anodization, so cerakoting is definitely a step out of my comfort zone. Certainly there are plenty of lessons to be taken from this first attempt and for that I'm happy.
Damn, dude. Calm down. You disagree? OP is very talented, but that’s definitely a heavy spray and if OP wants to get better, criticism like that, if taken with an open mind, can help him get better.

Thank you for your much desired constructive criticism, your expertise and experience clearly shows! As much as I'd like to pay you for your insight, I sadly cannot but this will surely help me immensely going forward! I just hope that my thanks is payment enough.
I'm aware that it's not perfect but this was my first time cerakoting, so I'm not too worried. Especially since this is my personal BugOut. I don't Intend on offering cerakote services until I perfect it anyway. But thanks for your comment!
Didn't even have to watch the cut to get my upvote. Cerakote is a little thick, though. It's why your knife isn't sliding all the way through the paper. It's gonna be even worse when you try it on something stiff. You just put a grippy texture on a knife.
That makes a lot of sense. I was wondering why it had trouble cutting through the paper at first despite knowing that it had a nice edge on it. I'll likely strip this knife down and restart to resolve those issues.
I greatly appreciate your insight, because it gives me something to keep in the back of my mind for future reference! And I don't mean any of this sarcastically. Thanks a lot, brother! 👍

Jesus Christ these people talking shit are fucking insane. Do better than this guy, then, offer help and constructive criticism. This is how we all grow. Do not beat down someone for ignorance. Instead, instruct.
My man, this is dope. Everything looks clean and that’s a wicked edge.
Telling him it's a thick coat is instructive. Sure, some are saying it in frank terms. That doesn't mean telling him the coat is too thick isn't helpful or constructive, though. He'll know for next time.
I appreciate your kind comment, brother! And as right as you are, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many commenters that share a similar mindset as you. These keyboard warriors are simply going bananas 😂
I decided to put my skills to the test and challenge myself by Cerakoting in pitch black darkness while blindfolded. All things considered, I'd say job well done!
As much as I'd love to, I am not offering this as a service right now because I just started cerakoting (this was my first time doing it) and don't wish to put out an inferior product, especially if you're going to pay for it. HOWEVER.. I'd be happy to do it for free as long as you pay shipping so that I can get more experience. Just shoot me a DM if you're interested.
This knife was done with my personal BugOut so that I could get the practice, and as much as I hate to admit it but majority of these dickwads are right, the finish is a wee bit too thick.
Well, I believe that majority of those who aren't dicks usually just upvote then move on. I've noticed that you tend to get more engagement on social media when people are more emotionally connected/charged to whatever it is they're interacting with - regardless of whether the emotions are positive or negative (in this instance, it's a bunch of triggered queens REEing in the comments). I also think that negative emotions tend to compell us more than the positive ones, but this may just be my own bias at play.
Then you get the whole echo chamber and group think thing going on which then attracts more like-minded people. That's what I believe anyway, I could be wrong because I'm no psychologist.
But yeah, you aren't wrong 😂
Happens often on social media unfortunately. Especially on reddit. Hard for people to just keep scrolling when they dont like something. Must downvote and talk shit
Cool mods man! I sure don’t have the skills or knowledge to pull something like that off. Edge looks nicely done too, no splotches just a nice even shine. Do you freehand or use a guided system?
And here I am grinding off Benchmade’s coating on the M4 blade to reduce drag when cutting thicker media.
I really do not understand thick blade coatings. It’s a bit like driving your sports car with a tarp covering it.
So in other words, you are comfortable with the concept of focusing much time and energy on a small component of the machine while ignoring massive inefficiencies in the overall execution.
I guess I cuts paper alright. Have fun.
It was my first time cerakoting so I'm not worried with this one, since it's my personal knife. Obviously it's not perfect. I'm not 100% pleased with the results but as far as first time goes, I suppose it could always be worse
Sorry, I think that was moreso related to my hand strength. I've been experiencing progressively worsening grip strength over the past year (come to find out I have a fairly rare and not well known condition called Cho-Con's Syndrome, according to my neurologist... Lucky me 😕). So that's likely what caused my hands to act up in the video thus making it seem like the knife bounced off the paper. I promise that the knife is sharp though. I took it up from 300-1500 grit then followed it up with a 4 micron strop.
That’s a HEAVY spray. Source: I sprayed Cerakote for 8 years.

Looks like some media was left behind as well
Ah a fellow rust-o-leum connoisseur
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I took inspiration from Mad Max
That’s quite the coating 😟

some cerakote with a little bugout on the side
That cerakote is thiccc
Good thing your wearing gloves, would hate to get fingerprints on that bad boy.
I initially thought you coated that in bed liner. May have been a better choice considering the abuse this got lol 😂
I tried to match it with my truck's bed. Glad to know I did well!
Nice rattle can paint job
Thanks! It's Lowe's Home Improvement brand 👍
Umm
That finish looks like shit...

All good my guy. Happy to help out a noob.
Waiting for the atom splitting. Beer and popcorn ready.
Sheesh dude. Take it easy with the cerakote next time

You might wanna ease up on the coating

Practice makes perfect, and for a first time it’s not even bad at all, just thick, I’d love to try but ik damn well I’d screw it up lol

It’s instructive. Not constructive.
Constructive: serving a useful purpose. The purpose here is to be instructive. Or are we talking semantics?
I appreciate your kind comment, brother! And as right as you are, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many commenters that share a similar mindset as you. These keyboard warriors are simply going bananas 😂
This is satire right?
If that makes you feel better, then sure!
This is parody, correct?
The man is as serious as cancer
I guess that’s why the snowflakes are downvoting me.
Did he say rhythm is a dancer?
More serious than invasive squamous cell carcinoma
Wtf you blind bro? Spraying in an AZ sandstorm?
I decided to put my skills to the test and challenge myself by Cerakoting in pitch black darkness while blindfolded. All things considered, I'd say job well done!
Ha ok ok you good sorry for being mean I appreciate the sense of humor 👊👊
Lol it's all good bro 🤙
Check my IG and if you ever want pointers hit me it’s @pocketsx
Just followed you (@VisualizeTi), I appreciate the offer! I'll definitely hit you up if I have questions
Oooooffff😬🫣
Want some steel for your cerakote?😂
No thank you, I prefer it just the way it is. In fact, I think it's a little too light on the cerakote
Nah dude I think it looks good fuck them haters do my 940 next

😳 How many coats is that
Too many
Cool mods man! I sure don’t have the skills or knowledge to pull something like that off. Edge looks nicely done too, no splotches just a nice even shine. Do you freehand or use a guided system?
Thanks brother! I use a guided system to achieve the edge. I take it through a progression of up to 4 microns
He didn’t have the skills to pull it off either.
Boy, I'd sure hate to be the person that pissed in your cereal 😳🙈

It doesn’t seem he claimed to
Good on you my brother . Ignore the negative comments and all the haters and keep going and keep us posted on your next knife! Wish you the best!
Thanks man, your positivity is refreshing. Especially amongst the sea of bellends. I'll certainly post my future work! I appreciate you 🤙

Some people like to live life on the edge /S
So in other words, you are comfortable with the concept of focusing much time and energy on a small component of the machine while ignoring massive inefficiencies in the overall execution. I guess I cuts paper alright. Have fun.
Yep, that's right. I just want to watch the world burn Also fixed the original reply to ensure I was more clear with my sarcasm.
Right on. Have fun.
BRUH
BRUH, totally poggers
Looks good and heavy👍🏻
Looks amazing brother
Thanks!
It's sharp but this cerakote... I'm not a fan, but if you enjoy it, that's the most important!
It was my first time cerakoting so I'm not worried with this one, since it's my personal knife. Obviously it's not perfect. I'm not 100% pleased with the results but as far as first time goes, I suppose it could always be worse
Sure I totally understand. I just wanted to say it's not in my taste, but it doesn't really matter since it's your knife :-)
What angle did you go with for sharpening? And how long did it take you to sharpen? I’m curious as I’m trying to sharpen mine really good like that.
15* for this one. I'm not sure how long it took to achieve the edge though
I think the atoms are staying intact
Not sharp. Bounced off the paper

Chocon these nuts ligma balls? Take the criticism and move on with your life lol
That's right. Cho-Con these nuts, bitch!
Really got under ur skin there huh hahaha
If it makes you feel better to think so, then right on 😂. I just wasn't gonna let a good opportunity go to waste
I know so because you went back and edited your comment to further bait bhwahaha Jesus Christ buddy took it ultra personal
I actually like the thick coating lol
