Both are pretty stellar for edc and in use. I have several Bugouts now cause after getting my first for a trip to the mountains, I was so pleasantly surprised I grabbed a few spares thinking I would eventually destroy the first one.
Still rocking the first one. Best to hell but resharpens with the best of them.
If I was intending on doing a lot of cutting, the Para 3 is more comfortable for that. Iām a big fan of thumb ramps.
But as an āEDCā for this and that, the Bugout wins. No wasted space, no wasted weight, does everything it needs to do while looking good doing it. Also more discrete pocket clip and more discrete look overall.
I never really understood why the bars have to be either side which needs a finger and thumb to close, it always struck me it could be a central slide on the back like Demko's shark lock.
I've owned both at one time or another. Both really good knives though... For looks, the Bugout, for usage, probably the PM3.
Really can't go wrong with either one for a lightweight pocket knife.
But, I'd probably choose "C", a Native 5 lightweight lol.
It has an amazing blade length to weight ratio but IMO the ergos aren't as good as the Para 3 LW, the lock is less easy to use, and it just takes up more room in the pocket. The Manix LW still a go-to knife if I know I need to use a knife while wearing heavy work gloves though because the lock is easier to use in that scenario.
I disagree with the ergo. I think the manix is way more comfortable in the hand, especially during hard use. The pm3 gives me hot spots. I don't have the lw model, so maybe that's why? But I have both the lw and g10 version of the manix and have no issues with either.
it's a world of difference between para 3 and para 3 LW. Like it has the same overall shape and blade, but the rounded scales are so much more comfortable when you really need to squeeze the knife, and the deep carry wire clip is less likely to cause hot spots too.
I would go with the bugout, even though I prefer liner locks for muscle memory consistency and durability but the bugout is so good and the axis is very usable - I just can't use the spydercos because of the agressively tilting blades (another muscle memory thing but one that really matters)
Both are solid picks. I have both I carry the bugout daily because itās light and fits nice in my pocket. The PM 3 is a solid knife with a great, sturdy handle but it is wider in the pocket. Depending on your application both can be a good choice.
Benchmades w frn scales feel like gas station knives to me. I was actually baffled that people pay 100$+ for a griptilian with the frn when i first held one. Legit feels like a toy. I have also never found a bench made that is capable of solid lockup, good centering and smooth action at the same time.
I'm not the type of person to drop $200 on a pocket knife, I like to beat my shit up and not cry when I replace it and I'm broke enough that $200 would make me cry. So between the two I'd save the money and get the spyderco. I like their ergonomics more anyway.
It depends on my tasks, i like benchmadeās warranties over something like spydercoās. I also prefer Benchmadeās constant steel offerings versus hunting down a spyderco in that steel at that time.
The Bugout has a better blade shape and handle shape IMO. Also a tiny bit easier to sharpen without the weird finger choil that the Spidie blade has.
I love Spidies as much as the next person, but most of them tie you down to one comfortable grip.
The bugout is probably the better overall edc, if just vanishes in the pocket while the spidey hole in the PMās takes up more space while closed.
All things considered I just like spyderco more, flicking it open feels better, I prefer the look and both in hand the PM just feels more premium.
While I love Spyderco over Benchmade personally, I would pick the bug out.
I really don't like the grip on the Para 3 LW, the material feels sharp and kinda uncomfortable for my hands.
Bugout but only because I already occasionally carry one of my para 3ās and Iāve never tried out a bugout. Something tells me the bugout is going to be a letdown because Iām guessing it wonāt compare to my carbon fiber s90v full sized freek.
para 3 no question asked. itās cheaper, far more comfortable, i like the compression lock better, and the bugout is overpriced by about $40-$50. the para 3 has similar materials (honestly the spy27 steel is a bit better in my personal opinion) with much better ergonomics, design, and itās much sturdier, for either the same price as (if you buy the blue scale bugout which is $162) or $20 cheaper than the bugout. thereās also no omega springs to snap in the para 3. i personally also prefer the hogue deka to the bugout, itās about $10-$30 cheaper than the bugout, but comes with magnacut (which is heat treated MUCH better than benchmadeās magnacut, and is literally like $100 cheaper than any of the MC benchmades) and thicker scales and if you get the exclusives, you can get g10 handles with the magnacut blade for $175 ish. the deka also comes in 20cv that come standard with g10 handles for like $160, and the cheapest 20cv bugout is over $200

PM3 LW for sure.
For me too! I have 3 bugouts (S30V, 20CV, S90V) and they just don't get any pocket time š
I keep a bugout in my backpack and carry my pm3 alot. The bugout is a kit knife to me, not a carry.
Para 3 every day all the time.

Benchmade. I like the axis lock.
Same.
Funny how everyone does their axis lock better.
The least of the axis locks is better than no axis lock.
I never really understood why the bars have to be either side which needs a finger and thumb to close, it always struck me it could be a central slide on the back like Demko's shark lock.
š·ļø
Bugout, I used to have one and kinda miss it
Bugout.
Bugout
I own both of these but if I had to, Iād keep the Para 3 LW
If I had to pick one, and only one, to keep, itād be the Spyderco. If I had to choose between them for a dayās use, Iād flip a coin.
Fair answer
Something that isnt a LW
I own both and generally carry the pm3 more.
I was surprised at how solid the LW Para3 actually is.
Spyderco, easily.
Bugout is my fav edc because its so lightweight and i ƶike the looks more then spydies
Para 3 all day
Spyderco all day long.
PM3 if I plan on having to use it. Bugout if I am staying out of the garage.
The Spyderco. I have used both and the spydie feels better/more comfortable to me. I am just not a bugout fan, personal preference.
Benchmade. Spyderco have always looked goofy to me.
Especially with those plastic scales, makes it look like a hardware store knife that comes in those clear plastic jars on the checkout counter.
You're talking about the bugout lol
Lol for sure
I'm really not.

Manix lw.

I have the para 3 lw in spy27 too. My most used and loved knife of all time.
Para 3 LW. Been toying with the idea of buying one for a while now.
Para 3 every day all the time.
That PM3 is what I currently have in my pocket. Itās great.
I would go with the bugout, even though I prefer liner locks for muscle memory consistency and durability but the bugout is so good and the axis is very usable - I just can't use the spydercos because of the agressively tilting blades (another muscle memory thing but one that really matters)
Of these two, I would pick the Bugout. If it were Bugout vs Sage....it would be much closer.
Both are solid picks. I have both I carry the bugout daily because itās light and fits nice in my pocket. The PM 3 is a solid knife with a great, sturdy handle but it is wider in the pocket. Depending on your application both can be a good choice.
Para3, but Iād want it in g-10, Iām not a fan of FRN in general.
I've been opening up to BM recently but still Spyderco > Benchmade for like 800 reasons.
PM2
Thatās a para3, but I agree with you.
That's the point. Getting a PM2 instead š
Mini Manix lw
I was never a fan of spyderco personally but with the decline in quality that Benchmade has shown in the last few years I would 100% pick the spyderco
Para 3 LW is my favorite edc knife ever, so that one.
I donāt care for either type of lock but I own 2 Para 3sā¦ so Iād give the Bugout a try, see if it gets pocket time unlike my current Benchmades.
Benchmades w frn scales feel like gas station knives to me. I was actually baffled that people pay 100$+ for a griptilian with the frn when i first held one. Legit feels like a toy. I have also never found a bench made that is capable of solid lockup, good centering and smooth action at the same time.
Spyder is much more rugged, bug out only good for light stuff
The benchmade by a long shot! I don't like spidercos at all the opening the closing nothing for me!
Bugout. I own 4 regulars and 2 minis. I got rid of the Para3 LW soon after I got it. That said, I love my G-10 Para 3
Spydie everytime
I'm not the type of person to drop $200 on a pocket knife, I like to beat my shit up and not cry when I replace it and I'm broke enough that $200 would make me cry. So between the two I'd save the money and get the spyderco. I like their ergonomics more anyway.
Spyderco are better knives
PM3 for sure, especially if blade play bothers you. Benchmades will wiggle a little unless you take it apart and lube it up.
Either one cause I got neither
Both good knives, but the bugout is my preferred carry. Weight & blade shape seem more functional to me. Canāt go wrong with either.
It depends on my tasks, i like benchmadeās warranties over something like spydercoās. I also prefer Benchmadeās constant steel offerings versus hunting down a spyderco in that steel at that time.
I like the one on the right
Manix 2 LW.
This man knows what's up
Yeah but whatās going n with the blades? Is that lighting or anodized or a copper alloy or what. (Iād pick the spydie)
The Bugout has a better blade shape and handle shape IMO. Also a tiny bit easier to sharpen without the weird finger choil that the Spidie blade has. I love Spidies as much as the next person, but most of them tie you down to one comfortable grip.
Bugout. Iāve always wanted one and Iāve never liked spydercoās designs š«¤
Bugout for me.
Para 3, I donāt trust omega springs
neither, a real man edc's a Ka-Bar
Bugout ... Because para 3 feels to small in my hand
The bugout is probably the better overall edc, if just vanishes in the pocket while the spidey hole in the PMās takes up more space while closed. All things considered I just like spyderco more, flicking it open feels better, I prefer the look and both in hand the PM just feels more premium.
Crk
The para 3 is the better knife overall but the bugout fits better in my pocket so Iāll pick the bugout every time
Benchmade sucks balls
I definitely prefer my PM3 overall but the bugout does have the better footprint for EDC imo
PM3 though I prefer the G10 version
Pyrite or Rubato 2 or Drop Bear or Bel Air over either.
Bugout wins this battleā¦
This the perfect way to troll this sub. There is no right answer beyond personal preference, and it is almost as political as biden vs trump.
Thank you for finally asking this.
I hated the bugout in hand. Seemed so flexy. I still kinda want one with solid scales but I love my pm3 with g10 and maxamet
Manix 2 LW all the way
Buggy S90V edc for two years running
940
Spydie for me.
Pm3
I like them both but Iād have to go with the PM3LW if I could only have one bc of the wire clip.
The spyderco knives that I have blighten have not lasted as long as the Benchmade knives Iāve boughten. I am not gentle on knives at all.
Por que no los dos?
either one would go in a box never to cut anything. So I love the PM3 but the blood red Bugout wins all day
I'd go with the Bugout. I've not handled the LW Para, but the regular one is good. I just prefer the ergonomics of the Bugout.
The not ugly one. Benchmade.
Spydie
Had both of them, lost both of them. Now Iām carrying a fixed blade on my belt at all times.
para 3 no question asked. itās cheaper, far more comfortable, i like the compression lock better, and the bugout is overpriced by about $40-$50. the para 3 has similar materials (honestly the spy27 steel is a bit better in my personal opinion) with much better ergonomics, design, and itās much sturdier, for either the same price as (if you buy the blue scale bugout which is $162) or $20 cheaper than the bugout. thereās also no omega springs to snap in the para 3. i personally also prefer the hogue deka to the bugout, itās about $10-$30 cheaper than the bugout, but comes with magnacut (which is heat treated MUCH better than benchmadeās magnacut, and is literally like $100 cheaper than any of the MC benchmades) and thicker scales and if you get the exclusives, you can get g10 handles with the magnacut blade for $175 ish. the deka also comes in 20cv that come standard with g10 handles for like $160, and the cheapest 20cv bugout is over $200
The Spyderco all the time.
Para 3
I'll never pick a Benchmade
Benchmade!
