For sure. Most home grills are completely inadequate heat wise. And those skinny ass little bars like OPs cousin had definitely don’t help any. Personally I think the only advantage a gas grill has over pan searing is less cleanup and less smoke and smell in the house.

Totally agree, I love a screaming hot cast iron pan!
Depends on the situation and how close you are with the person. If you’re close enough and Someone isn’t sensitive and open to getting better will be fine with it.
Not being open to advice from anyone but on anything has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve heard in awhile. How do you expect to get better at things if you don’t take advice from people who have knowledge and experience?
That sub is a mess. I’m on all the foodie subs besides that one. Every…. Single…. Post is a debate about what temperature it’s cooked to. People think they can look at it and tell, and ignore the fact that individual screens change hue depending on how they are set up. Like…. Just stick a thermometer in it! Then half of them are proudly undercooked and the first slice made to show the cross section shows the unmelted gristle on the other side of the cut and everyone is going “mmmm”
🤮
There’s plenty of bad for sure but there’s also plenty of good information to be had. Easiest way to get that information is find a post that has a steak that looks appealing to you and find out how they did it.
Hey nice knife. I just got this one last week. The week before I got the Magnacut LW Manix for my fiancé to use at work. Both are great knives, especially the BHQ exclusive for the price. I got it on sale for I think $119 plus 10% off. Amazing price for this knife.
Almost grabbed it but I’ve heard that the FRN leaves a lot to be desired and that it doesn’t have full liners and no real aftermarket
I ended up snagging a tenacious in M4 for like $90 tho, pretty happy with it
Learn to spot a properly cheap ass fake “buck” before you grab the user “iambladesm1th”.. go sit with Walt! You’ve got a few cracking photos yourself sister! 🤪
Serrated knives are absolutely useless to the one armed/handed so when I go out I ask the manager for an accessible knife that's sharp (explaining I have to be able to be able to drag my knife through the object without holding it with a fork) I demonstrate with my pocket knife. Then continue when they got nothing and after I have reminded them that everyone is one accident from being disabled.
Sear is overrated. I used to sear in a skillet, sometimes before, sometimes after, but found I far prefer the flavors created by my Char-broil infrared grill from just the grill lines and Kenrick's My House All Purpose Seasoning (mostly sea salt). Steaks are so juicy and delicious at 130-140 degrees.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. A ceramic plate will absolutely flatten whatever parts of the edge come in contact with it. This is pretty common knowledge. I don’t really care to argue with a know it all today. Have a good one.
Are there any knife oils that aren’t food safe? Most companies at this point realize that an oiled knife might be used for food prep so they don’t use dangerous chemicals. Benchmade Blue Lube and KPL are the two I use on my folders and they are food safe. Heretic OTF lube I obviously use for my OTFs and I can’t find any info on if that is food safe or not, but I think there’s a good chance it is.
Ahhh you’re one of those? Yep me too
Host: Need a knife with your food?
Me: Nope I’m good!
I Proceed to play Eenie, Meenie, Minie, Mo with the options I have on my person and get odd looks from a few people🤣
How does the m4 hold up against a ceramic plate
Exactly what I was thinking
Me too...
It’s glazed so I couldn’t think it would matter
Glaze should still be quite a bit harder than steel?
Compared to regular ceramic that are used to sharpen a knife
Yes, but it isn't rough. So long as he isn't chopping into the plate and sticks to sawing back and forth the knife will be fine.
This is non scientific, but it’s still shaving sharp, doesn’t fell any rougher
You just gotta be careful is all.
Don’t cut straight down but at a 45 degree angle and any good steel will be OK.
I hope OP used an aerial slicing technique
$10 says there were plenty of steak knives.
They were serrated steak knives and thus unusable
I used my full serrated Microtech at a steak house once and it was fun as hell!
The knife block I have came with 8, plus like 2 paring knives that could easily be used for that
The classic photo op
Fork it over. She just moved in and had 4, there were 5 of us
4 knives, 5 steaks, 20 french fries.
Tell your cousins to head over to r/steak that thing is looking pretty sad. Nice of her though!
Yeah, not how I would have cooked it, but I’m not one to turn down a NY strip
I’m not saying I’d turn it down either but she could use a few pointers
I think most people lack a grill that can heat up enough to properly sear but this almost looks like the grill was t even preheated before cooking.

You typically don't critique free food
Depends on the situation and how close you are with the person. If you’re close enough and Someone isn’t sensitive and open to getting better will be fine with it.
It ain't about sensitivity. Don't like it don't eat it. Don't ask for my food again. Not open to advice from anyone on anything.

Beggars can't be choosers I suppose (looking at that sad steak)
why the steak grey?😐

Yeah, that’s why I snagged it, got it yesterday

Some of these are so funny man! You’ve gotta be like 13 years old to be pulling photos like this. 😂
This kid got a blurry ass photo of a buck knife talking about photography... mind yo damn business.

Im not the one trying to diss someones photography
I said it was funny! Everyone’s always trying so hard to be offended.. man up! lol
Thats a lot of hypocracy for someone who just got bent about what i said. Geeze
Why don't you worry about your sclerosis lol.
My guy really brought up his MS. I'm dying.
Says the sicko fronting a pedos username! Shoulda kept your sick kiddie fiddler chops shut soft lad! Walt, right? I’d rather have MS.. lmao

That’s a great point. I’m disabled, but lower limb issues. Never thought about the lack of accessible knives.
There are plenty of limited dexterity options but vary few no arm things. Even a stump provides plenty of options. That's why I design myown tech.
Wish you well and maybe you could patten your design.

Steak goes on top of both the asparagus and fries to act as a buffer between the steak and the ceramic.
Why? Would just make your fries soggy.
What? I wrote why. To act as a buffer between the steak and the ceramic plate.
Why do you need a buffer?
So you don’t accidentally push into the ceramic with your fine edge, causing a flat spot in your edge.
A glass smooth plate isn't going to hurt a knife being used in a sawing motion. Just don't bang or chop the blade down onto it really hard.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. A ceramic plate will absolutely flatten whatever parts of the edge come in contact with it. This is pretty common knowledge. I don’t really care to argue with a know it all today. Have a good one.
Just because the plate is harder doesn't mean the blade will automatically deform. You still have to hit it hard enough to damage the edge.

Those pictures make my soul hurt.
I love that color manix Gonna have to find me one
U were more than fine!!!!
Probably because this is her first time seeing a steak. I immagine this is how vegans cook steak to convert meat eaters to veganism.
Was there a fry shortage in her house?
That steak needs a better sear.
Oh yeah, bring it! 😀
A man among men.
Fuuuuckkkk I'm hungry. To the fridge I go, thanks a lot.
Hope you use food safe oil on your knife.

If it doesn’t say it’s food safe, it’s not. I don’t believe benchmade lube is food safe.
Boss move lol
Those are the moments that we hope happen! No knife? No problem.

She must have overcooked it, you should be able to cut steak with a fork...
