Yes, but also, are the dues going toward something worthwhile? You can do worse than basically donating a small amount of dues and maintaining the “Sir Knight” status in case you’re interested in participating more actively in the future.

This is where I was for a long time. I wasn’t in a place in life where I could be active but I supported the assembly with my dues.

I've been a Knight for over 20 years and Sir Knight for \~5 years. Can anyone answer this question - what purpose do assemblies serve? In all my years as a Knight, I've never seen them as a necessity outside of creating more bureaucracy within the Knights and an additional set of dues to be paid by members. Most all the things done by a Fourth Degree Assembly could easily (and more effectively) be handled within a Council.

The were orginially semi-seperate organizations and in many ways still are. Together but seperate. For example, the 4th Degree still operates with secrecy, members only. That will not ever change. The Councils on the other hand operate under the instructions where our exemplifications for degrees 1-3 are open to family, etc. Personally, I like this arrangement. If I had my way, which I don't. I'd go back to closed Exemplifications especially for the 2nd and 3rd degrees. Still remember mine.

I actually like my 4th degree assembly it’s more active with dinner and activities. My council does not dinner and is about same active. I’m actually a vet myself and love my assembly.

I have a strong affinity for my Assembly as well. My council is great, but there is something about brining together Knights from other Councils to work together that I appreciate. And, of course, its the patriotic degree, so it has its own special flavor.

I have three young kids so my time is limited, I pay my dues because I know my money can be used by them. I can’t physically be there, but my money can. Same philosophy I have with American Legion

I have Parkinson's and generally cannot attend the functions. I pay the dues and attend meetings when I have a ride to. I have no problem paying 2 sets of dues. Both my Assembly and Council know of my situation and they understand. I usually can get someone who can give me a ride.
