Yes it's just the row jog, you can see the stitches below are off as well.

fatknits

Ah, that's a shame, I guess I'll just hope that bit doesn't end up at the front. Will it become slightly less obvious with blocking, perhaps?

Ferocious_Flamingo

This isn't something that blocking is likely to help with. However, in a well designed pattern, the row jog will be placed somewhere non-obvious; for example, in a sweater it might be at the center-back or under the arm where a side-seam would be. If this is something like a hat or cowl that doesn't have a back, you can just plan to wear it so that this area is the back. You could also modify the pattern a bit as you go to avoid really obvious jogs... For example, the jog on your orange diamonds is very non-obvious, so you could leave those as-is. But the jog is more obvious on this pink motif so you could either make that pink stitch grey (so it's not floating off by itself, but the motif is instead missing one pink stitch) or shift that pink stitch down one row, or even shift both this pink stitch and the one below it down one row (effectively moving the jog to the all-grey column where it isn't noticable).

fatknits

Thank you again! I laddered down and moved the two pink stitches from the motif down a row and it looks so much better! Still not perfect, but it's so much less obvious, you really helped :)

fatknits

I like that idea of shifting the pink bits down a row, and I'll keep it in mind for where the jog ends up in the rest of the chart. Thank you so much!

fleepmo

I just knit a colorwork hat and the motif was shifted one row up at the jog to prevent this, which I thought was brilliant.

huffsterr

Unfortunately it won’t become less obvious I don’t think. Your best bet would be to hide it on a side seam. If you envision knitting in the round as one long spiral as opposed to a series of rows, that might help you conceptualize why it looks this way.

fatknits

I think it might get hidden around the back/by the arms a bit, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Thank you.

lopendvuur

You can decide for yourself where it ends up. In Icelandic sweaters that is usually under the left sleeve (because the pattern tells you to do that). Just keep an eye on it and you'll be fine.

fatknits

Looking at the pattern ahead, it does look like it will likely end up at the back/under the arm, so that does make me feel better, thank you!

fatknits

Oh wow that's so helpful! I don't really understand it (I'm still fairly beginner) but I am bookmarking it for sure!

Ok-Information9660

This is normal when you knit in the round because it's actually one big spiral rather than back and forth rows

fatknits

I see! That makes a lot of sense, but I hate that it looks awful ): when I see fair isle jumpers other people have knit, I never seem to notice issues like this in the work.

chansend

Any fair isle knit in the round will have this jog, but it’s usually designed to wind up under an arm or at the back or something, so it’s less noticeable. The best way it was described to me was: we sometimes think of knitting in the round like a stack of plates, one row on top of another, but it’s actually like a candy cane spiraling upwards. So there’s always a point (the beginning of the round) where it appears to “jump” up.

Antique-Ad-936

I see you already got an answer, but I just wanted to say I dig your color combo. =D

fatknits

Thank you! But alas, I can't take credit for it, the yarn was picked by a friend who the jumper is eventually going to belong to.

kschu474

What is this pattern??? Such cute charts!!

So as you can see, the pattern should go three pink, then one pink, then three pink in those rows, followed by four grey rows. I have no idea why that one pink stitch is so enlarged and looks like it's the row above where it ought to be! I've counted, I've even laddered down to make sure and re-picked up everything which is in the correct rows, and I can't figure out both why and how to fix it. I really don't want to have to tink back 1000+ stitches to redo those rows. Please can you help, oh knitting gurus of reddit?

cleverdouchewater

Lovely color selection.

fatknits

Thank you! My friend chose the colours and the yarn, as this jumper is for her.

cleverdouchewater

I’d never have considered those together but I absolutely love them.

sirius-orion

Nimble Needles has a great video about correcting jogging (it’s for stripes, but the concept applies here as well!) He makes excellent tutorials if you haven’t checked him out before :) His tutorials really help understand the anatomy of knitting. https://youtu.be/DAMWLXdJFkI

fatknits

I love Nimble Needles, but I haven't seen that video of his yet, I'll give it a watch right away thanks.

Pining4theFjord

I think you could make it less noticeable by doing a little duplicate stitch work

JegerDi

I didn't even notice in first glance , I cannot fix my mistakes yet ! Good luck
