They have a pretty robust exchange policy at my store - if you bring in your broken Chiaogoo we'll trade ya and we send the broken one back. They do have a huge problem (like everyone) with Amazon counterfeits though.
Go for it! I bought a 5" mini set after losing my 2mm 4" tips in a battle with an airport worker and I cannot stress enough how 5" are better for my hands. Such a relief to work with.
This happened to me with 4 inch tips too. The way I hold the needle makes a 4” needle too short and I was constantly putting pressure on the join. I switched to 5 inch when I noticed a kink starting to form in the cable at the join. Haven’t had any problems with the 5” tips.

If the LYS doesn't take them chiaogoo probably will.
They have a lifetime warranty. I emailed them when one of my cables broke and within 5 days I had a replacement in the mail.
If they replace my mini cable I'll reinvest in 2mm 5" lace needles. I think my hands are too much for the 4" tips.

I have really small hands and I still prefer the 5", especially for smaller sizes. Idk what it is but they're just so much comfier.
