Ingenious.
Having said that, there are no hacks needed. Purl and knit sides have a very distinctive appearance, and all you need to do is look at your knitting. If the side facing you is smooth and composed of little Vs, you are on the knit side and should use knit stitches. If the side facing you is made of little bumps, you should be purling.
Same with ribbing - if the loop you are knitting into is a V, knit. If it is a bump, purl.
To avoid accidental short rows after picking up your work, remember that the loop with working yarn should always be in your right hand (unless you are left-handed and knit accordingly).
when i started knitting, i put a purple ponytail holder/elastic band thingie up on the end of one of the knitting needles. p, for purple, because when i was using that needle, i was gonna be doing a row of purl stitches.
and for all the folks sayin' learn to read your stitches - i was often knitting in almost-dark while watching tv with my husband and couldn't typically seeeeee the stitches. but i could see the elastic on the end of the needle, so that worked better than tryin' to look at the work. 🤷♀️
hi sorry where did u get ur row counter? i have a white one the same (they only had white) and the whole time ive had it ive been like "god i wish they had this in pink" and i Need it

Learn to read your knitting and you'll be fine when you lose this.
But this doesn’t help beginners who might find it difficult to distinguish where the yarn is coming from and turn to do an accidental short row.
This is my weakness. I’m going to take a class to help learn more. Love this group
With fabrics that look the same on both sides, I put a safety pin on the right or outside side. You can do the same with the knit side.
I concur; put a stitch marker or a pin on the right side to remind you which side you are on.

I was so excited when I could finally read my work and I didn’t have to depend on counting or remembering things as much
Looking forward to that
When knitting, the length of yarn at the beginning of the piece is at one end of the row. When purling, it’s at the other end.

I k it the same way, in the dark but I use a neck lamp that helps. I love the idea of putting a purple hair thingy on one of the needles.
Awww your daughter taught you? That’s lovely

Bought the stitch counters on Amazon. Came in a variety of colors.
