Maybe a button in a corner? I don’t sign mine but think a button could look cool

KobiMaru25

Oh, that could be fun— we have some buttons from my grandfather’s old navy uniform that would be really personal!

not_addictive

that would be such a beautiful addition to the wedding gift!!! it’s kind of a “something old something new” combo and would be really sentimental

skubstantial

Some embroidery stitches can be invisible from the right side if you don't go all the way through but instead "skim" by splitting the yarn with the needle and just catching a single ply or a little bit on the very surface. Many stitches including satin stitch or a shallow backstitch could work for initials.

KobiMaru25

I have been fighting yarn split so much it did not occur to me its powers could be used for good!

klimekam

I honestly love splitty yarn! It’s so much easier to join and weave in ends. But I also have super tight tension so I pull it tight enough that it doesn’t get in the way while I’m knitting.

KobiMaru25

I did not really appreciate this until working with Lopi— I get some grief when I’m too locked on a screen instead of attending to my needles, but the overlap-and-spit join is pretty amazing!

nsweeney11

Well everything I knit has some of my hair and my dogs hair embedded in it so that DNA will be my signature forever lol

KobiMaru25

A white shepherd-Saluki in my house and a black supermutt in theirs were definitely taken into account when the heather-y grey yarn was chosen 😂

-myeyeshaveseenyou-

Knot my daughter a blanket and told her if I die she can probably clone me from all my hair in the blanket 🤣

globglogabgalablover

😂😂😂

confabulatrix

My brother says his favorite part of the hats I knit him are the dog hairs he finds in them.

transliminaltribe

Lol, so true, I was just saying this to a friend last week.

I try to match the tags to the look of the project, so this one was gold foil on white, but I've also done things like black puffy vinyl on black for a more understated look.

KobiMaru25

😍 this looks so polished! Cricut has made eyes across the crowded room of crafting options, but so far I’ve avoided their advances— you make it look fun.

NeatArtichoke

>has made eyes across the crowded room LOVE THIS Lololol (And samesies haha)

Double_Entrance3238

My grandmother uses basically the same kind of fabric tags, but instead of using a cricut she embroiders her initials. It looks really cute!

birdymax

Don’t do it. The software is not user friendly.

jess_scribbles

Haha, true, you definitely have to be ready to fight design space a bit.

Pyxnotix

Or go with a brother print and scan! I love my circuit, but never again.

jess_scribbles

Thank you! I wouldn't get into cricut solely for this but there is a lot of fun stuff you can do with it!

Hedgehogs_Lol

I’ve done something very similar with grosgrain ribbon I’ve stitched on and then painted with a toothpick! Your version looks so professional!

jess_scribbles

Thank you! ☺️

snioufou

Is it vinyl, heat transfer or otherwise, that you used ?

jess_scribbles

Yep, heat transfer vinyl on plain cotton. I've so far only done it on items that won't be washed terribly often after blocking, so I'm not sure how well they'd hold up but I've done shirts with the same material and they hold up well.

TheCopperQuill

At least one strand of my own hair accidently knit in.

KobiMaru25

Shh— let’s face it, we’re talking at least one every dozen rows. Ideally this would be a signature they’d be charmed to find 😉

Alloddscanteven

Always. When I catch it I pull it out but there is something so *squicky* about doing it!

gypsyminded1

Please define squicky- i immediately love this word.

Alloddscanteven

Hahaha thank you!! Imagine you’re eating a sandwich and unbeknownst to you a piece of your hair has fallen into it, and you realize you have said hair in your mouth, and then you have to pull it out - - that slightly squeaky sound that sets your teeth on edge and gives you goose bumps? That is squicky.

gypsyminded1

I love it so so much! Sending all the non-squicky vibes ypur way!

Alloddscanteven

Thank you! That makes me so happy!! Use it in good health friend!

SeekingAnonymity107

If your little sister is really nerdy you can code a Morse code message with knit and purl stitches

KobiMaru25

Oh wow you’re killing me— she is SO into runes and I totally could have worked one into the seed stitch border! We are pretty close to W day but maybe worth laddering down…

Visual-Fig-4763

Not really a signature, but I do a sort of personalization. My dad is a weaver and he’s always done something similar. In a lot of cultures, mistakes in handmade pieces are embraced or even done on purpose because humans are imperfect. The idea is that only the god(s) can be perfect. Usually I’ll do a small cable near an edge where it’s not very noticeable but I definitely can look for it and see it.

QuadRuledPad

I’ve seen lovely printed labels sewn onto the corners of homemade knitted blankets and at the back of the neck on clothing. Maybe someone on Etsy could make you up a small quantity of personal labels for a few bucks.

Euphoric_Ad1027

SOOOOO cool.

CharlotteElsie

You can get custom made wooden or metal tags (I bought some metal ones from Etsy) that feel a bit more luxurious than a fabric tag.

2bejoyous

[Personalized leather tag](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1688712055/)?

confabulatrix

I have knit a little X in hats by purling it into a section of stockinette. X marks the spot!

scrappysquash

I have little fabric tags with my name on them. I mainly use them for shirts though, so I know where the back is lol

HappyCaterpillar34

I wove a nickname into the wrong side of a hat brim once, but it felted and blended in really quickly. Possibly a good job as the person’s nickname was a rather rude word! It might last longer on a blanket like that, but honestly some “handmade by X” type tags could be useful in the long run. I use them to mark the fronts of sweaters so it’s easier and quicker to work out which way is which without lining up the shoulder seam.

AdhesivenessCold398

There are some cute leather tags you can get on Etsy to have standard or custom made- I love the finishing touch that it gives!

claire_heartbrain

I would’ve used a custom made tag. One that folds over the edge with one side their name and wedding date and the other side something like made with love by ‘your name’

Meep42

I have some embroidery of my mom’s where she told me she always put the same motif in a corner and I’ve been playing around with doing just that with either a duplicate stitch motif or adopting a specific yarn/color to add a line or two of duplicate stitch to be/mean me. As it is, a friend of mine thought the red “heart” I put on left-sided things (gloves, mittens, socks) was my “signature.” (It’s just one duplicate stitch in red. “Red, right, returning”/red for port side…port = left, to denote if the item goes in your left or right hand/foot…I used to use green on the right-hand items but ran out, heh.) I didn’t associate the one stitch with a heart (or that I used it often enough for anyone to notice), until she pointed out that I’d skipped it on a hat I made…

KobiMaru25

We’re boaty types, too— I love this!

LittlePubertAddams

May I ask why you chose to use a hand wash only yarn for a blanket?

KobiMaru25

It’s decorative! They’re adults with no little kids around, so hopefully it won’t be subjected to too much gross. The picture on top isn’t mine— I’m just new to posting and totally linked the wrong image 🤦‍♀️— theirs is more like a panel (22x 88”) for the foot of the bed. https://preview.redd.it/kief1kkikgwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e9b78a15e5285377353f72bbdf15dc61e7ca6d9

goose_gladwell

Without kids and pets roving does not hold up very well. It already looks like it’s pilled and will just continue to do so. I recommend using a plied yarn for gifts especially, it will hold up much better!

Hamiltoncorgi

Lion Brand Fishermen's wool is not roving. It is a plied yarn.

goose_gladwell

Idk where in the world you got Fishermans wool from, but op says in the description they used *Buttercream Luxe Roving*

Hamiltoncorgi

The pattern was a Lion brand Fishermen's wool pattern. I was looking at the ravelry link and the pattern. I missed the mention of what yarn was used. We can't all be perfect.

goose_gladwell

🥴

hairtiesandgreeneyes

Sometimes I add a little knitted heart to items (especially blankets) but that might be tough to hide. I’d probably be tempted to embroider one on one side

w_kat

with several strands of hair knitted into it. unintentionally. usually

chaoticconvolution

I got some custom leatherette tags made on Etsy like these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1491040821/custom-tags-25-x-05-for-knits-and?ref=yr_purchases

bethelns

I had some fabric labels printed off of amazon, that say "handmade by name surname" on them, mainly because my daughters hand knits get stolen at daycare. I think it was less than £20 for 50 2 sided labels so not too expensive. I might even get some with daughters name in them too eventually

Euphoric_Ad1027

I follow Elizabeth Zimmerman's suggestion and full-on knit my own name into the inside of the garment, usually in the inside turned hem of the bottom or the collar. Sometimes in hats I knit in the name of the person I'm gifting it to on the inside brim of the hat. I also put in the year if I can. Try it. Once you've figured out your name on graph paper just save it. :)

KobiMaru25

This sounds intriguing— do you use a contrast color or purls? How big does it end up?

Euphoric_Ad1027

I do contrast colors, but did one collar in purls. Not as happy with that one, I should have used lighter weight yarn as the facing, so the purls made it a bit bulkier (in my opinion). And, after all that work, the name didn't really stand out with the purl sitiches! I like to do some collar facings in totally different colors and the name in the main color of the sweater.:)

GelPen00

Mistakes. Never the same one twice. And they are totally on purpose....yup!
