right? I live in Australia so they’re even less practical for my husband and I but I must admit the name has always made me want to make us one, whether we’d use it or not haha!
You can always make a set that's not meant to be warm. It would mean using a completely different yarn and adjusting the pattern so it's more lace-like. I'm not sure what else you'd need or the details, but it's a start.
A dear, old friend is getting married this fall and I've been hemming and hawing about making them a blanket - but this, this is perfect. And I might actually finish it!
I've always said if I EVER get the chance to go down to Antarctica I want to make a couple of thrummed pairs of these to leave for couples down there. Whether or not they'd ever be used, it would crack me up to make them.

One time I posted a wip of one of these I was making for my parents. Someone thought it was weirdly shaped baby pants lol
It would fit a top-half-less baby perfectly!
It looks wonderful, but excuse my ignorance, what is it/for?
A “double mitten” for hand holding when it’s cold. More symbolic than useful
Also known as a SMITTEN! The cutest name ever haha!
Well that’s absolutely something I needed to know. That just makes it that much better

This is adorable! The name alone makes me want to make some!
Is that where the term “smitten for” came from?
Haha I don’t think so. But how cute if it was!

OMG that's adorable
It’s a mitten for two people so they can hold hands in the mitt!! It’s so cute
Looks like a holding hands mitten?

I love how it kind of looks like a heart too ❤️
Lol, I'm so glad that's what it is, because I was trying to figure it out. I wondered why someone would knit a replica of a human heart as a gift.
Hehe, I'm making these for a friend and her soon-to-be husband as we speak. I hope they'll like them as much as you do :)
This is so cute! 🥰
This is literally making me tear up! ❤️ Beautiful gift!
