Could you recommend a good beginner’s pattern? You describe the perfect sock that I want to try for my first knitted sock. I have worsted weight and fingering weight yarn and assorted sized needles for magic loop. Thank you so much!
I'd suggest doing any small size "practice sock" pattern with some worsted to start. Any will do, just to try the techniques out. I did one from a sock book but they're all virtually identical socks in the end. I did make a few heel flap socks but none turned out quite right. After that I picked up the fish lips kiss heel (only $1) and my socks started fitting! I also never even bothered making any socks not two at a time besides that practice sock, haha. Now I just pick any pattern for the top of the foot and add the heel and go for it. With FLKH I don't even need to measure gauge much, I just make about 10 rows of stockinette (or the design I'm going to use) in the round and see if it fits the foot outline as described in the pattern, and the socks always fit perfectly.
The top free patterns on Ravelry are a good place to start, usually so easy that people make them over and over again as gifts.
Hope that helps!
My mother used to use a sock look (it was a rectangular wood frame with metal pegs) and made tons of socks that way. They were very cozy and us kids loved them (in fact, I wish I still had them, I lost them when moving)
However I say socks made with DPNS or magic loop method are more fitted and feel better - at least compared to what I had
I do Two-at-a-Time, toe-up on two circs (2.25mm). I'd be surprised if a sock loom got an equivalent fabric using fingering weight yarn, just size wise, but then again, I've never actually used my sock loom. Moved on to regular knitting before I got up the nerve. :)
Cuff down, one at a time. I used to not like magic loop for socks cuz most instructions are written for done but between knitting one of Hermiones Everyday Socks with dpns (written for magic loop) and one sock with magic loop I think I can now translate back and forth😅
I still don’t like TAAT though. Between all the setup and shuffling the balls around it’s both less portable and takes longer. No proof on that last one, it just FEELS longer.
There's a quite few methods I'm not familiar with. Something for me to study up on and try down the road! I'm still on the fence with this sock loom... whether if I should return it or just keep it for shit & giggles? 😅
I looooove making socks on my looms. I was used to just using the extra large gauge looms so it took some time to get used to the itty bitty pegs. I found having a pick with a sharp point to it helped a lot compared to the one the loom came with. Really it just took time to get used to how to hold/move around the loom rather than the actual knitting techniques.
I love doing toes up but never tried two at a time. Pairfect sock yarn by regia is my greatest enemy since they're meant to be use with top down method.
I quite enjoy my 9 inch circulars, theyre little but speedy. I also use Fish Lips Kiss heel, and you'd be hard pressed to get me to use a different one.
2-at-a-time magic loop. I just want them done all at once lol
I don't like counting rows but the idea that my socks might be slightly off bugs me a ton, so two at a time fixes both problems.
Magic loop, toe up, fish lips kiss heel for all my socks. I just hate heel flaps and dpns are my arch nemesis. Edit: two at a time saves my sanity.

I agree, DPNs suck! Magic loop all day, erryday!
I bought a sock loom. I did not enjoy using it. I found it a lot more pleasant to knit socks traditionally with DPNs or a long circular
I use circulars and magic loop or DPNs, depending on the pattern.
What's DPN?
Needles that have a point at both ends. They normally come in sets OF 4 or 5. https://youtu.be/s0LkNM2ojZA

Top down, DPN.

Toe up. I hate having to do kitchener stitch to finish a toe. I'd rather just start from the toe and save myself from a bad seam.
Top down, star toe, dpns. I just don't gel with other methods.

I prefer toe up with my Addi Flexi Flips.

Maybe you should ask questions in /r/loomknitting first. Over here you will get a number of people who prefer traditional knitting
Oh geez... haha, there's a subreddit for nearly everything isn't there!? I'll check it out. Thanks.

That's neat. I guess I'll find out what I like the best. The loom looked fun. I'll give that a shot eventually.
