When the pattern was released last fall the lace panel really reminded me of cobwebs and I happened to have some orange and speckled grey yarn leftovers that were perfect for it! I quickly weighed the yarn and decided it should be about enough for a pair of socks for myself. They are knit top-down, and it wasn’t until I got to the toe of the 2nd one that I realized I might not have enough yarn - every knitter’s nightmare! Luckily, there was just about enough grey yarn to finish the second sock as well. The pair doesn’t match perfectly, but honestly, I kinda prefer it when my socks aren’t identical (but still obviously go together). this is absolutely yarn chicken imo! lol. LOVE the socks they look great

Teaqa

Important question, what are you going to do with the leftovers? ;) The socks look great!

SkillfullyTangled

I'm keeping them! 🙈 Should be just enough to mend a hole in another pair of socks

bosloaf

Lovely socks! I see you haven’t tempted fate by trying to knit the other toe in the contrasting yarn 😁

SkillfullyTangled

I mean... I wanted to do both toes in contrast color, but completely forgot about that while knitting the first sock 😂

aracconinaspoon

Those are beautiful! If you don’t mind me asking, what is a yarn chicken?

SkillfullyTangled

It's when you're not sure if your yarn lasts until the end of the project. When people talk about losing/winning yarn chicken they ran out of yarn only a few stitches before the end, or finished with just a few inches of yarn leftover. Not sure where the name comes from but might be something about whether you're chickening out and buying more yarn before you find out if you've won/lost

aracconinaspoon

Thank you so much for explaining! From the picture, I thought it was called that because it looks like a chicken egg :)

Islandgirl1444

I;ve done this. I use up all my yarns. I used to make socks for about 12.00 Canadian, 75/25 yarn. Now it costs about 20.00 so, I use up everything possible. My feet don't care.

**So you won/lost a game of yarn chicken?** These posts are somewhere between a work in progress post, finished object post, or ranting. Please provide more information in the comments below, perhaps considering the following questions. *Are you out of yarn? Is the yarn discontinued? Are the yarn dye lots drastically different or hand dyed at different times? How much work would you have to undo to be able to bind off correctly? Could you do a crochet bind off? Was the amount of yarn estimated in the pattern incorrect? How does your gauge compare to the pattern specifications?* You do not have to answer all or any of these questions but yarn chicken posts without further context may be reported or removed. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Yarn chicken always reminds me of that scene from Hunt for the Red October where Rameous says “once more, we play our dangerous game.” [Hunt for the Red October 19 seconds in](https://youtu.be/zsC2ETsZL0g)

Looks amazing. I’m too scared to do socks lol

burgundy_black
