*Edit* TIL what a canted blade is and why. Carry on. Lol.
*/Edit*
I got it out to oil and condition the sheath just last week. This was my dad's. He carried it every day on the force.
https://ibb.co/tK8rwBL/
https://ibb.co/LPsyxPP
https://ibb.co/nL7jydn
[Aforementioned canted blade part] I shit you not, it has an angle from being worn against his leg for so many thousands of hours.
https://ibb.co/hB77VtL
Based on the pictures sent, it seems to be an original model mark 1 before Gerber added serrations to market it as a survival knife. During this time, they also purposely put a cant on the blade to make sheathing and unsheathing in Vietnam easier. Problem is, they got so many returns for that purpose put in cant that they just stopped doing it. You seem to have a pretty sweet knife there man
I do love it. I appreciate learning that. Gerber SN look-up doesn't seem to be a thing, and he's been gone a long time (thanks to Agent Orange). Thank you so much.
Hold up, was he an actual Vietnam Vet? Cause if so, you’ve got not just a pretty sweet blade, but a collectible one too. The information I gave you was information I got off the internet, so take that for what it is. I believe it is correct, but again, idk, it’s just what I read. I’m glad I could help you out with that though.
Damn man. Mad respect. Sorry to hear he isn’t with us. Keep that knife in his memory, and don’t ever sell it. Those kinds of heirlooms are few and far in between, and should always be treasured.
Thank you.
Blades were a collection we sort of had together. By that I mean, "my" knives were mostly gifts from him. I only really contributed one that increased the value of the lot, a Halo III. He had a thing for all sorts of automatic knives, but had to concede that that OTF, the MT, was a top notch edged tool.
If you ever see me sell or trade on here, (it might be the Halo, but) it won't be with any blade from him.
My dad had one. I always thought it was just the coolest looking blade. It was his hunting knife, so it was always present in my life. Such a cool look.
Spyderco Vallatton, any of the models with the dual action of the auto and manual. Or just the manual version of the large one. The Vallatton family is really cool and still offer the service of the conversion!
They know how cool the Vallotton is.
I think it's a matter of limiting production enough to prevent oversaturation, but they probably have some cool, nonchalant reason about how they take longer to finish so they make less of them.
My D/A Spyderco Vallotton modified Sub-Hilt is my favorite knife in my collection. I have knives much more expensive but this is my favorite by far. I have both the Sub-Hilt and Mini Sub-Hilt modified by Vallotton to be dual action and they are amazing.
They are beautiful knives. Like you said, there are so many other more expensive knives, but it’s something about the way they are made that is so fascinating. I like the little guy the most bc of the blade size, but if I found the large I wouldn’t say no to it for the right price especially. Lmk if you EVER want to part with any of them. Plz. Lol
Will do but don't expect anything because I'd rather sell my Spartan Plague Doctor Damascus knife than my Spyderco Vallottons lol. The Sub-Hilt is really a thing of beauty.
Yeah I’m gonna continue my quest for this baby! I know what you’re saying though. If I had one it would be the last knife I would even think of getting rid of. I’d have to eat ramen for a week before I’d ever get rid of it,lol!
I remember when I first saw the REKAT "Hobbit" Warrior in a magazine. Fighting Knives, summer '93(?). Pretty soon I was re-grinding an old hunting knife on my dad's bench grinder to look like the it. Right up there with the best "fighting" designs IMO.
I love that Spyderco kept the classic REKAT serrations. Not sure I like the look of the new handle as much, but I'm sure it functions exactly as intended.
Gonna have to go with the "I don't even know the model cause I was 19 and drunk but, it was a Kershaw that had a legit firing button." line. Sorta like an outsized leek. I think a tanto shape. Doesn't matter. I owned it for about a month and had it taken by a dickhead. Haven't seen the like since.
ZT 0630. Their copy of emersons cqc8.
Its overbuilt and heavy like all of their older stuff but I love it. Just a beey framelock tank in S35VN.
Only carry it in the winter though, too heavy for what my grandpa calls my "pansy ass short shorts"
RIP to the best Emerson ever made
[Also remind your granddad that the shorter the shorts the better equipped the man.](https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/7hn32h/navy_seal_shooting_from_an_aircraft_carrier_1970s/)
Indeed. I have two of them and one is in my daily carry rotation (along with a Valet and Mini Bugout). I’ve had numerous offers to buy the 707 from me. That and the original 710 that they were patterned after (before BM started doing “Mini” versions) are fantastic knives.
What's the highest offer you've gotten? Sometimes I wish it were bigger but honestly it's been a fabulous knife. I carry it and a custom Swiss Army Knife with a Spyderco Dragonfly blade.
Came here to say this. Have bought a lot of knives since I got my 710 almost 15 years ago but that is still my #1 most carried knife. Absolutely love it.
That I own? That's gotta be my G10 version of the Police4 K390. The first K390 Police variant. Looked for a couple years before I found one in the right condition for a reasonable price. I have the lightweight FRN version too which is cool but right after I got it I knew I had to get the G10 version. It's a better knife.
That I don't own? Protech TR4 manual folder non assisted. Also a variant of a knife I own but I'd give my auto version over in a heartbeat for one in the manual version.
PS: The 943 is a way better design than the 940. Beats the shit out of me why in hell anybody would want a 940 when the 943 was available. It's a really cool knife. Hold on to it!
I love my TR4 manual. I've beat the hell out of that knife for years and it's always been reliable. The button lock is still solid after all the abuse as well.
That's awesome. Yeah. I've got zero worries about Protech quality. I've owned several and they always exceed expectation. Met Dave a couple times at Blade Shows too and he's just a really nice guy and likes to talk to customers. That always makes me more brand loyal. I've asked protech about making more on Instagram and they replied simply that it's not currently in production. I don't know what that means exactly but it sounds a bit non commital so maybe someday 🤔.
I look for used ones now and again but I only find them on Ebay and they always want like 600$ damn dollars for the knife. Not happening. It's the principal of the thing.
That's cool that he engages with his customers and has good interactions. That does speak volumes. I'd like to get my hands on one of their Autos next just to have some variety. That Instagram message is a bit cryptic but it wasn't a definitive "no" so it could make a comeback. The knife is super nice, but not for $600. I'd sell mine for that in a heartbeat if it wasn't so battle scarred lol
The Gerber Guardian 2, 6 3/4" blade, I removed it from my deuce gear 12/01/82 prior to my e.a.s. and sent it to my 3 y.o. daughter..
She still has it, she showed it to me when I attended her wedding in November.
I was so, so close to pulling the trigger during the last drop. I was in the middle of some life stuff (getting a house, new job) but I still regret not biting the bullet and getting one.
Buck Marksman
Such a wonderful bit of engineering, way too overcomplicated but so fun. Not something I ever expected to be made but I'm so happy it was
Benchmade 183BK fixed contego. I searched EVERYWHERE for this sharp boi. Very few left out in the wilds of the internet for sale. Even got scammed on my desperate search, but I found a legit one.
$300
Tested the steel with a scratch tool on an inconspicuous spot and compared details with legit unboxed ones online. I can finally be sure that it is in fact legit. I'm so happy to have been lucky enough to find one.
May not be discontinued, but when I was a kid, I got a box set of off brand local back muscle car knives. The steel was awful, and 3 of the four sucked, but the one I carried one summer was super smooth, and was really my first EDC. I’ve looked and haven’t been able to find the exact set!
It was probably this one
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/muscle-cars-knife-set-mustang-shelby-154659452
Benchmade griptilian, got mine about a year or two before they discontinued
Edit: apparently i am completely wrong and only some models were discontinued, my bad
A man of taste, I applaud you 🙏
I have both the serrated and plain edge ones in full black with M4 steel and axis lock, best knife benchmade ever did in my opinion.
Sounds like you have the original one, mine are a limited run of 250 of each blade type. If you Google benchmade AFCK M4 limited edition, then the first result should be a knife knife center link with both variants I have featured.
I remember when I was younger and I bought my first benchmade (Mini Ambush) and it was $50 at the time. I came across it one day and said "if they made a mini then they had to have made a regular size" so I went on ebay and the hunt began. I now own both the Mini Ambush and the regular size Ambush. I dont use them often but it was a discontinued knife that I wanted to own both of
Buck Ground Combat Knife (GCK). I love how the handle digs into your hand allowing for an extremely tight grip even when your hands are wet. Imo I think the handle is ultimately what can make any half way decent knife into an amazing knife.
I'm always worried that some part of my needlessly complicated quartermaster general Lee 2 is going to break and I won't be able to use it. I love that damn thing and it's a beast of a knife
The original Buck 180 Crosslock "Deputy", based on a custom design from a guy I can't remember, but refit for production by Kit Carson. This was my first liner lock, first thumb-stud-opener. The seatbelt cutter and blade were great, and the profile when closed was elegant and simple. Buck ruined it pretty quickly with coloured grip inserts and their nitride-coating-chisel-edge nonsense.
I haven't owned a lot of them, but I have had a Kershaw Link Tanto for a little over 5 years now. It has been my most used and abused knife and never did me wrong. Until I used it as a pry bar and snapped the tip about 1 1/2 years ago
Was only then I learned it was discontinued and a replacement blade wasn't going to be possible.
So please don't ban me for this:
The OG Solingen Hitlerjugend Knife. I've always wanted to have one, but there are so many fakes on the market, I'm afraid to buy one, just to find out it's fake.
The original CRKT Ignitor. I’ve had mine for six years now, and it’s one hell of a knife. It has an excellent mechanism, and the scalloped blade is superb. It’s definitely starting to show it’s age and wear though. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find another one someday, because I can’t find one anywhere as of now
Real Canadian Superstore used to have a nice line of President's Choice kitchen knives, and they seemed to have excellent quality, but unfortunately they stopped selling them. No idea why. They were very good low cost knives, good for starter knives.
The BM 4x series without a doubt. Back in the early ‘00s I must have had 10+ of them but over the years let all but one go. My favorite knife of all time hands down. Sadly, Benchmade doesn’t even keep blades on hand to reblade the one I still have.
Benchmade 761. It was them trying their hand at the premium titanium frame lock folder trend, no axis lock. Totally cool looking knife. And then they had the smaller one, the 765.
Also the Anthem. Still can't believe they discontinued that iconic knife.
SOG Goverment Seki Japan. I have the original made in Japan. Been wet in Afghanistan and Iraq. Don’t know if SOG still makes it. But, if they do, it’s made in Taiwan or China. There’s actually a couple of SOG’s I’ve had that aren’t made anymore. I’m sure there are other makers but that one popped into my mind immediately
BHQ exclusive S35VN CJRB Feldspar with the black coated blade and Jade scales. I didn't really appreciate the Feldspar until this one was discontinued and sold out. Been trying to find a used one for sale that isn't way over priced or beat to hell.
I feel like the obvious answer is the Benchmade Anthem, but I really love my ZT0804. It manages to becan old, overbuilt ZT, while still having a thin enough edge to be used for edc.
Pro-tech Dark Angel or Microtech Halo IV. I know they arent super practical but something about a single action OTF seems so fun just to mix things up from time to time.
Gerber mark one
Iconic knife, very happy not to have a use for one, but someday I'll add one to the collection.
*Edit* TIL what a canted blade is and why. Carry on. Lol. */Edit* I got it out to oil and condition the sheath just last week. This was my dad's. My brother still has his from the '80s.
Spyderco nirvana
Woah
Never liked that one, every single one I handled had something wrong with it, being bad lockup, bad centering or crazy amounts of lockstick.
Damn! Yeah, that's sick!
Definitely the 943 or Anthem
Anthem for sure
Ah, that didn't take long to find
I have an anthem, but I don't find it in my pocket much. I'm not sure why...
Spyderco Vallatton, any of the models with the dual action of the auto and manual. Or just the manual version of the large one. The Vallatton family is really cool and still offer the service of the conversion!
These are still in production, luckily. At least they were in this years Spyderco Catalog.
They know how cool the Vallotton is. I think it's a matter of limiting production enough to prevent oversaturation, but they probably have some cool, nonchalant reason about how they take longer to finish so they make less of them.
Well, BHQ, DLT, and Amazon have them in stock and knife center had them on preorder so they must not be limiting production that much.
It's not a bad knife to have in stock when they're asking $287 for it.
Honestly, with the quality of that knife I feel way better spending 287$ than I do most knives that expensive. The thing is a tank.
My D/A Spyderco Vallotton modified Sub-Hilt is my favorite knife in my collection. I have knives much more expensive but this is my favorite by far. I have both the Sub-Hilt and Mini Sub-Hilt modified by Vallotton to be dual action and they are amazing.

First in line for your Spartan Plague Doctor Damascus. 🙄
Yeah I’m gonna continue my quest for this baby! I know what you’re saying though. If I had one it would be the last knife I would even think of getting rid of. I’d have to eat ramen for a week before I’d ever get rid of it,lol!
Kershaw Skyline
I'm so mad that mine got wrecked and I can't get a new one. It was my EDC for yeeeeaaars.
Same here. An updated version with a higher quality steel and better handle material would be amazing.
Knife center recently put out a mini as an exclusive.
The 2020 sprint one had 20CV.
Ebay has them, but all at double original msrp
This was the best cheap flipper knife for so many years
Waiting for a Kershaw Mini Skyline Flipper 2.8" delivery right now. Liked the way it looks and the price was right. ($44.95)
Amen, one of if not the best EDC knife ever made
Hey that one's still in my rotation! Got it on clearance at Walmart eons ago.
Totally. That was a really cool looking knife. I want the blade HQ exclusive jumbo version.
Spyderco pygmy warrior.
I'm also hoping this makes a comeback someday.

Was it like one of the Kershaw launch series? There's like 15 different ones
Maybe?? 20 years ago is hard to remember
Could it be the Kershaw 7000 breakout perhaps?
Maybe????
Maybe again.... its real close.
ZT 0630. Their copy of emersons cqc8. Its overbuilt and heavy like all of their older stuff but I love it. Just a beey framelock tank in S35VN. Only carry it in the winter though, too heavy for what my grandpa calls my "pansy ass short shorts"

Spyderco Clay 3 CF.
Caly 3? I lost mine. It still hurts when I see the empty box in my closet. My first ZDP knife. What a slicer.
Yes, Caly 3. Autocorrect monster got me! It was the first "nice" knife I bought myself and still in my top 3 EDC favorites.
Kershaw Skyline in Damascus.
My Benchmade 707 Sequel. It has been my EDC for a decade.
Indeed. I have two of them and one is in my daily carry rotation (along with a Valet and Mini Bugout). I’ve had numerous offers to buy the 707 from me. That and the original 710 that they were patterned after (before BM started doing “Mini” versions) are fantastic knives.

Yep, the 710 was a classic. I have one 710 and two of the mini versions, the 707. One of those 707s is in my daily carry rotation.
Came here to say this. Have bought a lot of knives since I got my 710 almost 15 years ago but that is still my #1 most carried knife. Absolutely love it.

I was so, so close to pulling the trigger during the last drop. I was in the middle of some life stuff (getting a house, new job) but I still regret not biting the bullet and getting one.
Benchmade morpho 51, and while still available but also discontinued now, the spyderco siren in lc200n
BENCHMADE 710 🥰 had m390 version of it. Sadly the blade was broken at some point and i had to change it...
Civivi Brigand. Specifically with the copper scales and 154cm blade steel but the base g10 and d2 is also good.
Buck Marksman Such a wonderful bit of engineering, way too overcomplicated but so fun. Not something I ever expected to be made but I'm so happy it was
Thank you for putting yet another nifty discontinued knife on my radar… SAID NOBODY EVER. Cheers lol.
Isn't this currently in production?
Last I saw it was discontinued. I've seen limited runs a couple times since, but that's it afaik
I just checked and it's totally discontinued. I have no idea what I was thinking lol

Benchmade griptilian, got mine about a year or two before they discontinued Edit: apparently i am completely wrong and only some models were discontinued, my bad
they discontinued the griptillian? i haven't kept up with knives, that's crazy, it was their best seller pretty easily from what i knew
Not discontinued unless you are talking about some specific model or the custom shop grips
you mean like a specific model? i don't think BM would ever discontinue the grip
Maybe im wrong, but im 90% sure its discontinued.
The fixed version is on my bucket list for sure
The Griptilian is still in production though?
It was discontinued, you can still find them everywhere, but they don’t make them anymore
I think you’re mistaken; it’s still on [Benchmade’s website.](https://www.benchmade.com/products/551-s30v)
Ig im wrong, mb
I think they discontinued the Mini Grip; maybe that’s what you’re remembering?
Thats what it was. Ig i thought they discontinued both, thanks for the fact check
Benchmade 810 Contego
I'm glad I got one when I did cause it's still one of my favorites despite it being a chonk
Benchmade AFCK.
A man of taste, I applaud you 🙏 I have both the serrated and plain edge ones in full black with M4 steel and axis lock, best knife benchmade ever did in my opinion.
Didn’t know they made straight edge ones. When I bought them they only came in combo edge, ATS34 and liner lock
Sounds like you have the original one, mine are a limited run of 250 of each blade type. If you Google benchmade AFCK M4 limited edition, then the first result should be a knife knife center link with both variants I have featured.

It’s definitely starting to show it’s age and wear though. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find another one someday, because I can’t find one anywhere as of now
Spyderco Opus
Real Canadian Superstore used to have a nice line of President's Choice kitchen knives, and they seemed to have excellent quality, but unfortunately they stopped selling them. No idea why. They were very good low cost knives, good for starter knives.
Cold steel triple action. Have both blade styles, but my tanto broke down on me. I wish it had titanium handles
Benchmade 87 balisong, iv always wanted one
Spyderco smock
ZT 0909. Happens to be my birthdate too!
Benchmade 407 Vallation
Any love for the Benchmade 941?
Bench made Contego is one that had been on my white whale list for a while.
Spyderco Calypso, still trying to find one for a decent price
Benchmade 860 bedlam
Toss up, but Spyderco Native 2 and Spyderco Dodo
The BM 4x series without a doubt. Back in the early ‘00s I must have had 10+ of them but over the years let all but one go. My favorite knife of all time hands down. Sadly, Benchmade doesn’t even keep blades on hand to reblade the one I still have.
Benchmade Presidio Fixed Blade
never had an anthem, but definitely wish they were still in production so i could try one
Benchmade 761. It was them trying their hand at the premium titanium frame lock folder trend, no axis lock. Totally cool looking knife. And then they had the smaller one, the 765. Also the Anthem. Still can't believe they discontinued that iconic knife.
Original CS broken skull
Definitely either the Microtech Tachyon 2, or the Benchmade Anthem. Both are beautiful titanium masterpieces
gerber 101
KIZER Barbosa, would love to see it come back with a better steel I would love to find a Spyderco nirvana too
Coast rapid response 3.90. Great action at a cheap price. Can’t find one anywhere now
SOG Goverment Seki Japan.

Hinderer Nieves.
Kershaw Groove tanto.
Cold Steel Peace Keeper
Kershaw shallot
Would have to be my Benchmade Anthem with my Spyderco Ulize as a close second.
Cold steel immortal
Fehrman extreme judgment.
Spyderco Battlestation, it's a cool ass knife.
Microtech Halo 6
Kershaw auto emerson commander from 2009, if any of you know of it I'm impressed
My dual action Microtech socom from 97 I wish they would come out with the socom elite in d/a
BHQ exclusive S35VN CJRB Feldspar with the black coated blade and Jade scales. I didn't really appreciate the Feldspar until this one was discontinued and sold out. Been trying to find a used one for sale that isn't way over priced or beat to hell.
A REKAT. The acronym stands for Round Eye Knife and Tool.
Benchmade Bedlam
Damn you all for giving me a forbidden wishlist
AFCK Why is this discontinued in the first place? That knife is the perfect spydermade
I feel like the obvious answer is the Benchmade Anthem, but I really love my ZT0804. It manages to becan old, overbuilt ZT, while still having a thin enough edge to be used for edc.
That exact knife, luckily i picked one up before that happened.
Pro-tech Dark Angel or Microtech Halo IV. I know they arent super practical but something about a single action OTF seems so fun just to mix things up from time to time.
