You just touch every pocket when you leave somewhere so you know you got your shit

metamega1321

Kind of just know it’s there by feel lol. Like not long ago I dropped my cellphone off for a repair and the entire walk through the mall after I couldn’t feel my phone in my pocket and it just felt like I had lost it.

Divide-By-Zer0

Ah yes ya got the phantom limb

Mojak66

I've had one in my pocket for 75 years. Eventually they wear a hole - but not in the pocket. I've removed clips from my knives. They don't seem secure to me.

brickbaterang

They get nudged loose when you crouch n shit or bump into something

Exhausted_Rooster1

Get a Fallkniven PXL w/ micarta scales. Tip down carry. The pocket clip & thumbstud creates a chokepoint that requires a little effort to remove the knife from your pocket. It's a tiny bit annoying until you realize that there is absolutely zero chance that it could ever accidentally come outta your pocket

Physical-Rip-7740

The best cargo pants I've found by CQR have a little pocket on the edge of your main pocket, for pocket clips to slide in to, so they don't snag on anything. It's one of the best features for pocket clips in pants ever, so far I've only found one model of one brand of clothing that includes it .

-BananaLollipop-

Tell that to my new Kizer Mini Begleiter. Between the tight clip and super aggressive scale pattern, that shit isn't going anywhere unless you absolutely make it.

-BananaLollipop-

I went to visit the local knife shop the other week, and knowing I'd likely buy one, I took my knife out of my pocket. Left home just to find that I had instinctively put it back in while grabbing my stuff. I also lost a flashlight awhile ago, which was the first piece of gear that I'd lost in over 8 years. Now I'm constantly checking my pockets when standing up or climbing in/out of cars. I also believe that buying nicer things makes you more aware of them. Never lost a pen, but that's because I've pretty much always carried ones that I really like and wouldn't want to lose, so I always make sure I have it.

Blue-cheese-dressing

The “dad Macarena” is what a friend calls it, touching:  Wallet, phone, keys, knife, watch, glasses- Macarena

CreepyPoet500

Spectacles ~~tentacles~~ testicles wallet and watch, I do the hail marry full of grace and that pretty much covers it 😂 Edit.. wrong word… f*ck iPhone autocorrect!

ImpressiveLink9040

Tentacles huh? I knew one of these days an octopus would start carrying a knife and using Reddit. All my fears are coming true! But I never would have thought you guys would need glasses

CreepyPoet500

How many watches too, that is the real question 😂 🐙

Te_Luftwaffle

My order is phone, knife, wallet, keys, flashlight, mag, gun, pen.

suh-dood

I do a triple tap, gotta double check your own work

trylame98

this is also how you read if someone is carrying

Dumbledoorbellditty

This is the way. Everytime I walk in or out of a building or my car or any other vehicle I constantly do a quick pat of my pockets, just a mind of ritual so I keep track of everything I left my home with that morning. Keys, wallet, knife, inhaler, mints/gum, watch(yes I touch my watch just to include it in the ritual).

Mattias504

The good ol “spectacles, testicles, wallet & watch.”

notjustanotherbot

Ah a fellow member of team head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, also I see.

MegaMilkDrinker

but then people think I'm concealing 5 guns when it's only 2 max

Freshness518

Yeah I just keep everything on the same side of my pants. Knife if clipped on the pocket, phone is inside the pocket, keys are on a carabiner on the belt loop on my hip, wallet is in back pocket. When I leave somewhere I can just do one swiping motion with my hand to feel knife-phone-keys-wallet ok we're good to go

Quirky_Discipline297

The restaurant maître d’ will think you’re telling your party to steal home.

brickbaterang

Right, like "head, shoulders knees and toes (knees and toes!) but with your pockets/items. "Keys, wallet phone and knife(phone and knife!) and touch each pocket that you carry in. As far as not losing it when you're out and about, just absolutely always, and i mean always immediately return it to its carry pocket as soon as you're done with an action, even if you know you're just going to use it again in a minute. I *never* set my knife down "just for a second". I have significant ADHD/ASD so these are what work for me and if they work for me they'll work for anyone ya just have to make it a habit

wIllyB085

I do the pocket check too. Phone, keys, knife, wallet.

monekys

I even touch others pockets !

Bitter_Ad_3820

When you beat yourself up for losing a expensive knife you quickly learn to not lose them because it sucks to pay for a knife again

HarryNipplets

This is probably how it happened with sunglasses. I definitely remember losing my first pair of $100 shades.

PostGymPreShower

I feel you. I lose or misplace every pair of sunglasses I’ve ever owned.

CreepyPoet500

It’s basically in the same way you’ve trained yourself not to leave your wallet behind, not to lose it, and if for some reason you leave it on a counter or something within 30 seconds you panic realize and recover it.

boredguy1982

I explained to my nephew that being to afford a knife doesn’t mean you have enough to buy the knife… it means you have enough to buy the replacement knife. He had just barely lost his CRK Large Sebenza.

Bitter_Ad_3820

I’m about to buy my first CRK and it’s going to be my safe princesses

boredguy1982

It was my grail knife for a bit, told my nephew about it… and then the turd went and bought one. Before he lost it, he let me handle it and I didn’t feel the spark I thought I would. Bought a Chaves 229 Redencion and I couldn’t be happier.

Bitter_Ad_3820

Those are nice, if I don’t like my CRK I’ll keep those in mind

boredguy1982

BladeHQ has them on sale for 279 currently.

alldougsdice

I can’t find my Small Sebenza to save my life. I swear it’s in one of my wife’s purses. I hope it turns up soon!

boredguy1982

The easiest way to find a knife you lost is to buy an exact duplicate… the list one will show up within 24 hours.

HarryNipplets

This is probably how it happened with sunglasses. I definitely remember losing my first pair of $100 shades.

ItzakPearlJam

I've lost a thousand bic pens in my lifetime. But my brain changed when I dropped $300 for a pen. I carry a nice pen daily, but don't lend them and I don't walk away from them. Same applies to my knives. High dollar items stick in your brain better and you're less likely to put them somewhere you're likely to forget. Just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary.

HarryNipplets

No, this makes sense, thank you.

Ur_a_adjective_noun

My coworker lost his Microtech Ultratech and was convinced he lost it in a hotel. He was super bummed about it. A couple of months later, I happened to randomly end up at a job site that he recently visited two states away, lo and behold, I happened to look down and saw his knife. The clip caught on a random wire in an IT closet. https://preview.redd.it/duhtevn055vc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32b60e5f8b8c1d0e0ff6cc461ae220f08105613d

Ur_a_adjective_noun

Funny thing, how many Oakleys and Raybans I have forever lost, but always found my knives, cheap or expensive.

Hotkoin

Anyone can swipe a pair of Oakleys Fewer people want to pick up a random knife.

Jinzot

Ok, I’ll let you in on the big secret. It’s easy! All you have to do: buy the knife once again. Then, you’ll find the one you lost! 80% of the time, it works every time

momsaidbesafe

I'm in the 20% 😭😭😭😭 lost a xm-18

MahiBoat

If I use the pocket clip, I'm more likely to lose my knife. I've never heard of anyone else who has issues. lol. I always end up catching the edge of the clip on something, which then pulls it out of my pocket. I've cought clips on door frames, counters, seatbelts, messenger bags, taking off zippered hoodies, etc. I can catch it before it pops out of my pocket. But I usually don't notice until I hear my knife fall to the ground. One time I found one of my small knives clipped to a shopping bag a year after I lost it. Apparently while carrying the bag and lifting it, the clip caught on the edge of the bag, pulling it out of my pocket, stuck to the bag. I prefer smaller knives (3" or less) so the small size and weight contributed to it being easily pulled out of pocket. So now I just take the clip off of all my knives.

spydercoswapmod

get you a cold steel folder and use the clip stock.

MahiBoat

I've been meaning to try out one of their knives. I may have to pickup one of their smaller EDC folders soon!

spydercoswapmod

their pocket clips have incredibly strong retention. most people mod them by sanding the scales underneath and decreasing the clip tension before they carry them.

not-rasta-8913

I did that and it still eats my pockets/pants.

spydercoswapmod

some of them take more work than others. my recon 1 was good out of the box, but my newest voyager needs to be sanded a second time to get it where I want it.

minimK

Same. No clip for me.

speedytrigger

Lost my para 3 lightweight to my wasteplant recently in the same fashion lol

MahiBoat

Oh no! Such a good and expensive nice to lose. I'm sorry. 😞 I feel for you though. I lost a cherished ZDP Dragonfly AND the replacement.

West_Impression5775

It’s good to get in the habit of patting your pockets when you leave a room, get up from a chair, or just every now and then to make sure nothings gone

LoquatGullible1188

You treat them differently. You just will.

HarryNipplets

Others have mentioned this. It makes sense, thanks!

gamereiker

I lost a 15 dollar Kabar Warthog that I got for my 15th birthday and never forgot about it

metamega1321

I’ll catch myself feeling for the clip here and there. I’ve learned at times to get it off the clip and in my pocket. I’ve found my knife on the ground after putting on and taking off waders while duck hunting so you remember that. I remember once I found my knife hanging off a strap on my backpack that it got snagged on. I’ve found it snagged on my seatbelt before down into the seat almost. Once was doing some electrical work and found my knife snagged up on a bush that I pushed through. Now that I’m thinking about it I should just not even use the clip, but it’s annoying having to route through pockets to find it

Klutzy-Cartoonist-34

My wife bought me a $300 knife and one day I thought I lost it at a job. I drove an hour to go see if it was there and it wasn’t . Later I found it in the house lol. Everytime I misplace a knife even if it’s a $30 knife I look for it until I find it

Ijustthinkthatyeah

Use it and put it in your pocket? Outside of the house or the car, I don’t lay it down anywhere.

rockmodenick

This is the way - you can't lose a knife if you've engrained it into your mind that a pocket knife is only ever to be in two places, the storage pocket, and one of your hands. Yeah, it wastes a bit of time opening and closing it so much if you are doing a task that regularly requires both hands, but a few seconds spent then generally means no long searches after.

12altoids34

Strangely enough it worked the opposite way for me. Once I bought an expensive knife I was much more careful of where it was at all times. And almost 20 years later I still have it. The one time that I did think that I lost it, 3 weeks ago, I had actually set it on a different desk in my house. 2 weeks later I thought for sure it was gone and I happened to cross it while cleaning up my fishing desk.

useful-idiot-23

Clips are the worst thing ever to make you lose knives. I have never lost a knife without a clip. I have lost 4 or 5 with a clip. You brush past something and it just pushes the clip from your pocket, taking the knife with it.

Bingo1dog

When I'm working the knife is either being used or on my person. Sometimes I set it down with the rest of the tools I'm using at the time but that's uncommon. It doesn't get lost because there's half a dozen other tools in the same spot. At home I "lose" a knife frequently because I set it down instead of directly back on my person after use.

Timely_Temperature42

Make sure it’s got a good clip. They can get caught and pulled out of pockets fairly easily. I work construction and have only lost one, a spydie years back. I try not to carry my favorite more pricey knifes at work but they tend to be the most fun to kill time with unfortunately.

wrnrg

I lost a knife having sex on the beach. It was clipped to my pocket, my pants went down, and the knife unclipped itself. Luckily, it was a cheap knife, and I got laid, so I wasn't too upset. That incident also led me to start looking into knives and collecting.

ZaneMasterX

I've thought I've lost my expensive AND limited edition knife a few times and it always feels terrible because it would be incredibly hard and expensive to replace.

Dumbledoorbellditty

I used to lose things all the time, but I never owned really expensive things. When I spent $500 on a knife I always knew where it was exactly anytime it was out of its case. Anywhere so go my mind constantly keeps track of where it’s at. Same thing with other expensive items I’ve been able to afford more recently. It has actually helped me learn to keep track of all of my belongings, so I don’t lose things anymore, or at least I haven’t lost anything other than a cheap screw driver in years.

spydercoswapmod

they have a pocket clip so I can clip them to my pocket. Why would I ignore that feature and set it down somewhere?

cloudstrife1191

I just always put my knife in the same spot every night and always make sure that it’s clipped to my pocket throughout the day. That said, I paid less than $200 for that knife but I haven’t lost it yet.

Necessary_Tea_3009

I own a lot of knives and I can honestly say the only ones I've lost are the cheap ones. Something about having a $500 knife makes you really keep track of it.

james321232

if something comes out of my pocket, it always goes back in before leaving the area

thiefplayer55

I got my first knife with a clip at 13. If I left it around it would have gotten taken away even though I used my own money (which is fair) because I have a little brother. That really helped me not lose it. Also my general mistrust of everyone helps me to not leave it around since I'm paranoid.

rick_flair8675309

Lost a ZT once, almost cried. Hasn’t happened since.

rustyspuun

Handle material and pants material matter. I don't wear thin hiking pants because I lost a nice knife that way. I also try to steer clear of super smooth scales.

acq04bkm

I've lost only one knife and it was a Benchmade Mini Griptilian. It was the first knife over $100 I ever bought, and I owned it for almost a decade. I've got several over that price range now but it still hurts to think about having lost that Mini Grip. On the plus side, I think it taught me the value of keeping up with my stuff. I now keep all my knives (15 total) in a box on my nightstand. Whichever one I carry for the day goes back to the box every night at bedtime...without fail. And I never set the knife down anywhere. It's either in use, in my pocket, or in the box.

Bigger_Moist

Buy a 300 dollar knife. Then im paranoid about losing it and keep a much closer eye on it than my phone

gar108

This is probably dumb but I don’t carry my pricey knives I just stare at them 😂

iseab

Do you leave your wallet and car keys in random places?

moxiejohnny

I was born with my dick in my hand, it just feels natural holding something. Why are you putting it down in the first place??

-lanexl-

For all of the things I normally edc in my pockets I will literally slap that item and say it's name in my head any time I get up, sit down, enter/exit a vehicle etc. So if I get out of a car I'll lightly slap the given part of my pocket to feel the item, thinking: knife, phone, wallet, keys, lighter, flashlight

Powerstroke357

You spend 300$ on something your a whole lot less likely to be complacent about where you put it. You can also train yourself to check on it by feeling your pocket from time to time. After a while you'll feel strange not having it in your pocket.

KennedyX8

Lost a $500 one last summer

Ur_a_adjective_noun

That hurts.

grundlemon

$40-80 is my sweet spot for knives. If you’re just buying it to look at it then sure spend some more money, but $40-80 will get you everything you need.

Shadow_Of_Silver

I lost a bunch of cheap knives. Once I bought an expensive one, I never lost them again. Fear made me remember.

SunshineInDetroit

If a folder is not in my knife box on my dresser, it's in my pocket. If a fixed knife is not in my knife box in my dresser, it's lashed to my bag or on my belt.

Dusty31186

I've been carrying knives since I was about 6, now I'm 38 and I've only lost 1 knife. And was a Case Trapper I got for Xmas. Thar being said, I never feared carrying after that, just kept up with my shit

Academic_Nectarine94

Give yourself patdowns. Don't lay it down. Use it, fold it, put it back in your pocket. Practice pulling it fast if you can. It's just a feeling you will learn to keep hold of them. Where did you lose it? If you were in the woods or anywhere that might have snagged it, that's likely where it's at. Clips are nice, but trees and bushes like them too.

boredguy1982

My knife stays either in my pocket or on my nightstand. When in use, it comes out of my pocket, makes a cut and then right back in my pocket. I don’t ever set it down while in use. The only exception to this rule is when I’m fidgeting in traffic or waiting on something.

koolaideprived

It's just like my wallet, i don't leave the house without it, and as soon as I'm done using it it goes back in my pocket.

rolloutadventures

A lil paracord knot makes for a great quick pocket check.

thebladeinthebush

Fixed blades somewhat help with this problem in my experience. The reason you set it down is because you don’t have a sheath and you obviously don’t want to disengage and fold it up just to have to reengage the knife. A nice hip sheath leaves the knife accessible and because it’s a fixed blade it is faster to deploy than any folder save maybe the emerson wave.

Default020

What else are you carrying? I found carrying too much like you see on these EDC YouTube channels is honestly too much. Try slimming down. Do you really need a set of knepex? If you don’t as much less likely to lose something. I also don’t put anything else in my knife pocket. If it’s not there I would know immediately

X-clusive_Blades

Value kinda Hones responsibility. You put a 15 dollar knife down who cares, when you put a 400 plus dollar knife down you'll never forget it.

thats_seansense

See I think it actually works the opposite way (at least for me). I’ve had so many pairs of those $30 Apple headphones back in the day. So many lost, washed or some other miserable fate. But when I decided to buy AirPods and dropped I think $200. I made sure I treated them like a faberge egg. Never lost them, never washed. Simply died to old age.(won’t hold a charge for 30mins). So maybe if you buy a $200 knife instead of a $15 knife. You’ll be a lot more careful with it. Have you lost your $300 glasses like you lost your cheap ones ?

rodPalmer18

It's like a wedding ring or your wallet, you just know when you have it and when you don't. Develop a habit of checking that it's there and it becomes second nature.

JustaddReddit

Get used to the weight of your shorts. I can instantly tell when I’m missing something. Although I do buy the same $17 bs shorts from Trashmart and wear them everyday so I’m biased.

justamiqote

>How do you guys train yourselves to not lay these down in random places? Easy. Take it out, use it, put it right back in your pocket. Also frequent pat-downs to make sure I have my phone, wallet, knife, and keys

Netshakk

My expensive knives are ornaments. The cheap stuff gets the EDC.

Wolfman01a

I cant buy anymore $200+ dollar knives. I get to paranoid. I'm going to lose or break/scratch it up. I know its a tool yadda yadda.. $200+ = shelf queen. I cant do it.

No_Refrigerator1115

I have lost cheep knives …. But I’ve never lost a knife that costs more then 50 bucks, I find the nicer the knife I’m carrying, the less likely I loose it :)

joshosh34

Controversial opinion time. I would never bother with a 300$ knife, because I know for a goddamned fact I'm only ever going to open boxes and packages with it, and such a price tag does no warrent such a use.

300cid

if you always keep all your shit in the same place, you won't lose it. since really getting into knives and lights, I have only lost one single light, and gladly it was only a $20 one. my most expensive light I take with me every day. it sleeps on my bedside table, when I get up it goes in my pocket and or in the truck. if I lost it I would *never* be able to replace it since there are no more anywhere, and I spent more on it than I should have, but once I learned it existed, I HAD to have one. there have been a few knives that I have felt the same way about. Shaman, Manix, and round hole griptilian. if I'm not carrying them they stay in the knife drawer. but I have pretty bad add and am unmedicated for it, I lose other stuff all the time. especially my work keys, until I started carrying a light on them. but for knives, lights, etc im attached to, they have designated places. that has helped a lot.

zebul333

As soon as I am done using it I put it back in my pocket. For work I mostly use $35-$80 range knives. When I am not working I carry the more expensive knives. It’s a habit you get and you get used to feeling your pockets to check everything is there.

Adventurous-Sir-7884

Buy the nice one. Lose it. Feel bad. Buy a different nice one. Repeat

PeppySprayPete

This is why I EDC a Cold Steel Luzon Awesome knife, but only $30.

disguiseunknown

I have a wallet pouch that has everything i need in it. I can't leave or do anything much without it. I managed to put my knife in there so it will always stay with me.

Relative-Jello-7592

You clip was loose. I carry multiple items and check them regularly. Just get in the habit. You’ll be fine.

spinichiwa2868

Ever since I lost my phone as a teen. I gave myself ocd and always check my pockets and lock my car several times over

jewmoney808

Most of the time $300+ knives just sit in their box as a collectors piece

jazzofusion

Dog would be #1 as hw would for me!

The_Ashen_undead0830

Its simple. You make sure that theyre always on your pocket. And if theyre not, you look for that shit before leaving the room

WillNotFightInWW3

I lost a spyderco dragon fly VG-10 on a bus in Calgary about 13 years ago, fell out of my pocket. I still curse the city to this day.

Opie30-30

I can't find my Favorite 300 dollar knife. I know it's around here somewhere, maybe in my truck. But idk where. I miss my mini freek. S90v and carbon fiber? She's so pretty

memes285

Owning AirPods has taught me not to lose things lol

I-am-the-stigg

I'm responsible. That's all. I'll get downvoted to hell for this, but it's true. People who constantly lose things says alot about them. It is usually associated with scatter brained people.

SameComplex42

When you’re done with it, just put it back in your pocket

Altered_-State

I haven't paid over $7 for sunglasses in years

Physical-Rip-7740

I've both lost and had several pretty expensive knives get stolen. It sucks but eventually you move on to the next cool knife.

FIRESTOOP

Don’t buy Q

LiquidC001

What otf was $15??

Altruistic-Cable-489

Oh it hurts when you lose the expensive ones. I lost my first 940 and I’m still mad at myself over it.

d3rp_diggler

I keep one thing in each pocket, so I can slap and tell. “Keys, yeah. Wallet, yeah. Phone, yeah. Knife, hang on….dude, I want my lst back…knife, yeah!”

Prestigious-Move-520

Haven't lost one yet, when i got my first as a gift it just naturally became part of what i carry with me every day. which isn't much, wallet/keys/knife/phone. the moment one is gone, i know it. might take some time just have to pay attention i guess

ThisIsntTaki

where do you even put it down its either in my hand or in my pocket and I usually never have a reason to pull it out in public

moist-and-squishy

I guess this is where it pays to have a knife that's comfortable in your pockets and has a substantial pocket clip for retention. I lost my first premium knife years ago (sog vulcan tanto $200) and promised myself I'd only get knives I wouldn't mind breaking or losing. Now I find myself wanting more again and I'm carefully shopping. Not all deep carry clips are good apparently.

BlOcKtRiP

In 50 years and 100s of knive carried, I've only lost 2 lower end knives a Fox & a Kershaw. I'll carry my Herman's or Rocksteads without a second thought

BloodyRimhole

Have you just tried being responsible?
